Des Voh Do you even know what a king cake is? ng Cake- Seasonal food item served during the Mardi Gras season preluding to Lent, particularly in the area surrounding New Orleans, Louisiana. The cake itself is a twisted cinnamon bread, covered in icing and sprinkles of three colors: purple, green, and gold. Gold represents power, held in the thrones of the royalty. It also unofficially symbolizes the Krew of Rex, by far the most famous of all Mardi Gras parades. Purple represents justice. On Mardi Gras Day, seemingly everyone in one of the celebrating cities has a good time (or at least tries to), which brings everyone to an equal level: they all want to have fun. Green symbolizes faith, since Mardi Gras is by tradition a Roman Catholic holiday. Still, even if you're not a part of the universal Church, you can't deny the goodness that is king cake. Also, the cake can be filled with just about any flavor. I prefer original/unflavored.
