"He works?" The most obvious and obnoxious facetious question was going to be asked regardless of her being previously informed of the answer. Her playful lilt bounced along as she continued. "He does something other than being a nuisance~?" The particular redheaded nuisance that was speaking apparently considered herself apart from the one she was speaking of. Dismembering her enemies was still different than his carelessness nearly beheading his host, after all! No matter how little.

"Mm~" She made a small sound as she looked over him carefully and curiously. Somehow she considered it nice, that he acknowledged and dismissed the ability in question so casually. "Surely it'd be better if such an ability did not exist." Even it seemed to be for her own reason of not wanting to acknowledge it at all. Eye averted and hands back to busying themselves with petting her rabbit friend, her words became hesitant. "Seeing things outside of one's scope, outside of one's control... " The weariness she'd been trying to fight off just felt all the heavier. "I wonder if one ever becomes accustomed to that responsibility." Maybe a person like that had to have an upbeat personality in order to deal with it? It wasn't something she considered as something to be taken lightly. But it wasn't her curse, either.

But there was no time to be too thoughtful, as the doll was saying embarrassing things again. And naturally she had so little grace to answer him with, red face and all. "...It'd be simple to get away with. I think." There were sort of a lot of problems with attempting that, right? That was sort of impossible, right? And yet, of course, she was willing to entertain that idea regardless. But not without both being tripped up and acknowledging the issue of him consenting to that, of course. "I mean. Th-that is. If it is something that we wanted to do." She'd hold on to that tiny sliver of hope no matter how insignificant it was! And she'd attempt to show herself as a good match at the same time, no matter how misguided that attempt ended up. "It would be disgraceful, to complain about something that is merely a part of his profession. This energy-efficient body does just as well with catnaps, anyway~" Her complaints were many and varied, but were curbed and subdued when it came to what he found important. Portraying herself as the perfect partner was probably impossible. But she was hardly a hindrance. Was she?

"Hnn~" The gluttonous cat-like one held a different opinion than that of her perceived partner. Was he still trying to insist upon the impossible when they had cake? But with only that tiny noise of protest, she had no further complaints regarding his decision. But, she did have one question. "Would it be too much trouble, for you to be leaned upon for a nap while you read?" Though presentation of her suggestion lacked both guile and shyness. On the contrary! "Might be... might be less of a distraction, that way." In her own way, she was actually trying to behave. In a roundabout sort of way, but it was still meant as an honest attempt nonetheless!

"Um. That's okay, I think." Phew, she didn't push the cake question. Great, that made one less thing he needed to explain. And if she was holding onto his arm again he could always split his other arm in two - hey! No, no. He should do this the human way. Figuring out how to flip a page with only one hand. Yeah, that was a better idea. To hell with not being able to multitask internally, at least he could deal with it outside.

The doll however, oh hey, he's so huffy about it! The annoyer becomes the annoyed! "What, just because I board in there, you think I don't do anything in return? Whatever happened to symbiosis, huh? I'm no parasite, I keep his sister in ch - mmmmf!" "That's enough," Erhard butts in, snatching the doll up and covering the wriggling fellow with one hand, steely tone dissonant with the normal warm, flustery stammer.

Shh, silence.

"...... Oh. S-Sorry. Well, it's expected that he would ramble sometimes. Try not to take anything he says too seriously, okay?" And warm and flustery Erhard was back. "What were we going on about? Ah, yeah, that intern." Anything better to skip the previous topic with, then. "Yeah... No need for little visions of failure right before operations. Like the procedure itself was not stressful enough. But then for all it is, those visions hardly come true for some reason. So I don't think it's entirely true." A clairvoyant with a 100% failure rate, was that a good thing or a bad thing? Even then, bringing the intern would probably have turned them both away at the door, for what were the chances of finding the exact material he needed when he did not even know the subject well outside of encounters?

Then the answer was simple, from the one most affected by that absurd idea. "Then no. Even with catnaps, I'm the last person you'd want to sleep beside." Double meaning might not have been intended, with the doll trying to laugh even while gagged. Oh, was he going to explain her catching him sleeping on the job, then? "Even then, if that really did happen, I doubt I'd be back sleeping even after the sun has long come up. Nothing personal, just.... A bit hard to sleep after those. Even when it's supposedly otherwise." He gives her an assuring smile. Oh wait, that's not a smile, smiles don't shoot up to his ears with that crunch, neither do they look like someone broke a porcelain doll's mouth off and held it where it was supposed to be, chips and all.

Oh, oh! A rare chance at closeness was better than cake. She was certainly excited, anyway, exuberance plain across her face and flickering within her eye. She'd nod as well if not for that whole skull fracture thing. Attempting to maintain her seating she stuck a hand under her seat, only to find that her arm was a little too short. A further grab or two and she'd procured what she'd tried so hard surreptitiously extract. A soft, black blanket which she was quick to defensively gather to her body while the lap rabbit scrambled atop it. "I don't need it. It's just comfortable." Seemed that the library had already been long since primed as an ideal napping spot.

Nevermind at the doll's rightful defensiveness. Her ears had caught upon the piece of information that they likely shouldn't have. "Oh~ So your sibling is a sister." She'd cheerfully put together the information she'd picked up without the slightest clue of what it all might have meant. Luckily enough that chipper realization was followed by a pitying assumption of her own, eliminating the possibility of any pesky questions that might've surfaced. "Either he fulfills a specific role or you must really be in need, if you have to trust her to the likes of him." Her tendency of being easily distracted had likely served everyone well over the subject in question.

The subject that followed was an interesting one to her, and one she was definitely curious about. "Mm. Do you have to deal with him a lot?" Though in time curiosity turned into caution as she appeared to be making an attempt to make her figure even smaller than it was without trying to do so. "I'm... I'm not sure that I could. Deal with a person like that a lot." The sudden change of tone that filled her voice was both childish and fearful. Well. She certainly had a lot to fear when it came to dealing with the future, hadn't she? And in typical child-like fashion, she warily looked him as a trusted figure to influence her thoughts. "Does it bother you?" Maybe that was implied, if it added stress to operations. Still, she'd felt the need to ask directly.

Though trusting him didn't mean she'd go without refuting him as she saw necessary. "Not so." The doll had to be pleased, getting the two of them to casually bicker over something they were unlikely to have discussed on their own in the first place. "Whether you wanted to rest, have company, or simply be left alone in that case... I wouldn't mind." Indulgent words considering they were still discussing something quite unlikely, but she'd meant them. If actually given that reality the awkwardness would unsettle things considerably, but still she thought she'd manage. Though what he did next caught her offguard, completely. A blank stare of wonder occupied her face as she hesitated to react at first. It'd be wrong to touch, right? Surely he'd be self conscious of it, whether he'd intended to or not. Under cover of the blanket, her fingers linked themselves together. He'd just have to deal with the caress of her affectionate words instead. "Ah, I feel as if I've waited an age to see you smile." Regardless of how inhuman he might end up looking at any given time, it didn't seem to matter to her. She wouldn't pity nor praise him, however, knowing they were very much the same when it came to things that one might be dissatisfied with regardless of what others thought. Smiling softly she'd present him with her perspective and nothing more. "It was worth the wait." It was both a creepy and sappy scene, somehow. But, that was just the sort of person she was when it came down to it.

The doll frowned behind his gag, nubby arm raised as if to say something important - really really important! - if he had not noticed the fingers holding his mouth shut gain the same texture as broken china, that is. Eyes wide and fully into panic mode, he pulled open the hand that held him, parting delicate (skin?), worming in and slamming the makeshift hatch shut. Merely a few seconds of distraction, but enough for Erhard to glance downwards, and enough for the creepy face to get wiped fully and repaired. "Oh," he simply muttered, staring at his now-empty hand like it had grown ten more fingers. But not like it was not unusual, anyway. "Oops. That... That wasn't supposed to happen," he goes on, shoulders jerking awkwardly. Was that supposed to be an attempted laugh? "Sorry. That got a bit out of hand." Hey, why was she not sliding as far away as she could? Or smacking him with a book and screaming? Ah, right. She was Amarante, after all. Loosen up a little, she already made it clear that she would not be running, so... "... Looks like I still need practice," he sighed. Okay, tense atmosphere relatively defused. "............."

Hey, he was supposed to be saying thanks to her for not already making sure that there's a mile between the both of them, right? Say something. There's nothing he can say. Not even a simple 'thank you'? His mouth was open and not a single word was coming out. So strange.

Hold on, yet another intermission. Shut those eyelids, settle back down on the sofa so she could lean on him. Cool those racing thoughts already! She might hear them. Shh. That's better. Now before she mistakes him to be sleeping too, wake up. And remember, don't talk about the sister. Skip! That! And double check those irises, yup, bright and red ones. Not the dull ones. Good to go!

"Not really. He works in a different department. But it's common to see him in the pantry." For reasons unknown, then. "Not really. Just... The one time he says that we are going to succeed at an operation, that's probably not something to look forward to." Ah, the opposite side of failure, then. "The pressure somehow multiplies when one knows one is going to fail. And it's nearly always those kinds of procedures that go awry."

But, enough chat. Time to finally get down to business. Let's see, which page was it that had Amarante on it? Might as well start from there again. Flip, flip.

His companion seemed unaffected by his return to a more normal sort of face, continuing to look on with adoration all the while. "Heh. Sorry for what?" What she saw as a moment of vulnerability only made her need to be as close to him as she possibly could all the more difficult to ignore, but... no. Again she'd abstain from menacing him with her physical form and offer ham-handed words instead. "I liked it. But if you feel you need to practice, I'd like to see the result of that too." Well, she couldn't expect him to be happy about cracking his face open. But she could try her best to support his efforts regardless.

The wary look in the eye fixed on him seemed to subside upon hearing his answer and observing his reaction. "As long as he doesn't give you much trouble." Seemed to be a standard sort of response for her, but no less meaningful. It was likely in his best interest that he'd attempted to dissuade her against her tendency towards predatory violence early on as her repetitions made it fairly clear that she was eager to please him regardless of what form that might take.

Oh, he'd already gone into reading. Gathering her blanket more closely she readied herself, only to end up a little afraid at the last moment. Wasn't as if it'd be the first time she'd be waking up next to him, right? No, thinking of it in those terms wasn't helping at all. Maybe he'd be engrossed enough within his reading that he wouldn't notice the flustered little face tinged with pink staring at him with determination for all of a moment. A mental push landed her against him more normally than she'd thought, her mind exaggerating it into violence when it'd been anything but. She'd lean herself into balancing her weight between him and the chaise. So while any large movement would still end up bumping his arm into her any amount of movement he'd need to simply read would be unlikely to wake her so easily. From there the usual sensation of comfort set in, chill and all, and she settled in without the least bit of resistance towards the heaviness weighing down upon her eyelid.

The following page would be obvious to her, though she was too consumed with her heart's desire to even show a bit of disdain before she'd fallen asleep. The man pictured looked very much like her yet hardly the same. Even with a lack of detail the darkened grey eye in the image didn't match the grey-masked eye that cheerfully sought out Erhard time after time. The techniques used and the sheer age of the image likely played a part in the muddied detail, but the expression in that deeply-set eye almost seemed rushed in addition; knowing expression seeming to have been fearfully portrayed by the artist. The brown skin and bright red hair were very much the same as hers, and the right eye was covered as expected. The sketchily portrayed dark expression went hand in hand with his confident pose as he was dressed in a justacorps with all the trimmings. Curiously he wasn't portrayed as anything but a human figure, without any extra features to be seen. It didn't seem to matter, however, as the writer seemed more fearful of him that they had been of his blood-covered progeny.

"Mmm." Yup, totally distracted. Maybe. Like he had the courage to smile in front of others purposely. Better to put that uneasiness to reading.

Hmm. Was this her dad? Feels like he was flipping through a history book rather than a documentation tome, with paintings and his clothing style and - hey, he was one to say. But anyway. Then Erlea would be her mother. Was it really alright of him to be digging around in her family tree? And it was not like they would be finding her family on the opposite side of their mishaps anyway. Say, what would happen if that circumstance really did come true? On one side, they're his patients, on the other, his friend. Surely.... Not. If folders could fly, then someone on that team should know better than to engage Amarante or any member of her family. Right, unwarranted reassurances aside, back to reading.

Or maybe the might not even make it back if it was her father they ran into. Hey, enough with those thoughts. But then the book was doing what it was probably intended to - instill fear together with information? Maybe not so much fear as unfounded worry. Ah, she was asleep. No use waking her up for silly questions.

Say, was she still in touch with her parents? No wait, of all the situations to pop up in his mind suddenly, it's the confrontation at her shop. That was not his fault, right? Somehow he felt responsible for it, even if it was him that got lobbed a drink. But whatever the consequences, he wouldn't face the brunt of it. Right. Ahem.

Where's his notebook? Ah, wait. No moving that arm. Means no writing. Oh dear, this was going to be a bit of a problem. Um.

Okay, he would just have to make sure he didn't drip anything on the floor or the chaise. And if she woke up, well - she didn't react negatively earlier, so this should not be too different, right? Or better yet, he could take a third option. Did the bunnies know how to write? Or her errrr.... assistants? Looking for the nearest one, so how did she call them again? Looking around as best as he could, for any sign of those er, things. But, flip the page first, before putting his free hand up for assistance like a kindergarten student who did not know any better.

The page that was conspicuously missing between father and child said a lot not only about the situation between them but the situation in general. Not torn out, not removed, but simply never printed. Would he ask at some point? Surely she wouldn't mind, if it was him. For the time being she'd continue peacefully sleeping, surprisingly quiet outside of a rare soft hum or so.

And why not, when next to her favorite person and when graced with nice dreams for once? A night scene was best, being that the sun's heat was his enemy and the sun's light was hers. So rather than being surrounded by a sunny sort of flower it was white vespertine blossoms instead. There was a flutter of wings as well, not butterflies but black moths which better suited her nature. Even in the limited light from the moon black moths were easy to see on white flowers. Her focus was pulled and kept by something of a far greater importance, however. Him. And what would she like, standing around in a stereotypical field of flowers with him? Merely an embrace. She hadn't imagined herself without her face covered or him not being cold, either. For a dream her mind was surprisingly practical. But sweet, of course. Seemed like the more unseemly things were saved for her waking thoughts.

His flailing hadn't gone unnoticed, though it was caught by probably the last entities he'd expect. A curious chirrup could be heard from across the way, indicating the cats were awake and had acknowledged his presence. The one that had spoken was the little black shadow cat, Bon. Oversized eyes wide, she began to pad over to that man to see what the trouble was. The automaton cats quietly followed suit. They'd seen a lot of each other, right? Sort of. The other was almost always happy around this one, right? It seemed. While the rabbits were certainly more affectionate towards and attuned to him, they were also brand new as far as familiars went. Whether the group approaching him could help was yet to be seen, but they certainly seemed open to the idea. With tiny paws Bon didn't hesitate to leap up upon the open book itself, asking him just what the issue was in her own way. "Nya~? Nyan."

It was just as well, as curiously enough the following two pages had been blacked out with ink. The text and image were mostly obscured but an abundantly clear message had been stamped across one of the pages in red. 'Eliminated.' Seemed that between printings and before the book coming into Amarante's possession the creature in question had been dealt with. There were likely more pages just like those found scattered elsewhere in the book, with no special attention paid to them. Simply those who had existed at one point and had ended up dead for one reason or another, as far as whoever had created the books was concerned.
PostPosted: Thu Apr 16, 2015 7:39 am

Oh bother. Of all things to answer, it would be her cat. Could cats write? He had to be at least optimistic about it, right? Might as well go along with it. "Uh," he began, trying hard not to stare straight at the black cat. That bad habit of staying as far away from animals as he could was not dying so easily. "Uh. Could you? Um.... Move a little, please." Why should the cat move from an unreadable page? Speaking of that... Ugh. The disdain that was welling up inside thanks to someone's callousness at information preservation was hard to keep from bubbling over. "I mean, um. Can you write?" Really? Asking a cat with paws whether she could write? "Um, forget that. Could you help me hold this while I take notes?" Would a cat not get crushed under the weight of a tome? ".... Aaah." Already the sigh of defeat shows itself.

Oh, first it was rabbits, now it was cats. They couldn't leave hair around, could they? Explaining a layer of animal hair on himself later would be a problem. Three cats in total. "Err.... Hi." He waved his free hand at the other two cats. Such an awkward introduction.

Well, whoever the author was, clearly the book served more of a hunting list rather than an information sink. Oh well. What's on the next page? And the next? And the next? Might as well see while he was trying to think of a solution to that writing problem.

Say, Amarante was being awfully quiet. Just not a few minutes and he found himself slightly unnerved about it. Was she not going to squish her blanket between him and her head? Or mutter something about being hard to sleep on? Or suddenly get up and grab a pillow to cushion her head against the solid, yet fragile thing that was a poor knockoff of human skin? Suppose that was the difference between her and Marie or Rosalia, then. Hmm, all three childish girls, yet surprisingly special, all in their own way. One with her innocence, another with her maturity, and of course, Amarante with her (devotion? That sounded odd. Passion then.) Right. He probably should not drift off too much, now that he had finally the chance to read quietly.

.... Did she finish her drink? These useless thoughts! What would it take for him to be focused for once? Did he finish his? Oh dear, such bad memory. Well, that could be saved for once Amarante woke up from her nap. He could refreeze it if need be anyway. What about the tray? He should throw it away. No, recycle it.

This certainly was not helping at all. Another frustrated sigh floated out of his mouth.

After a conference of meowy trills, natural and not, the cats seemed to have come to a decision. "Nya." With an assertive little meow Bon leapt from the book, instead taking a place sitting on top of the hard shell of the black automaton cat. And with what sounded like a throat clearing, a more efficient interfacing could begin! That is, if he wasn't unnerved by the fact that the cats could understand him and communicate back to him.

"Testing, testing. Is this okay?" The artificial voice crackled with some static but was somehow was quite effective in expressing its chipper intention. Bon tilted her comically oversized head curiously. It seemed to be that the shadow cat was using the mechanical cat she was sitting on as a sort of speaker and interpreter. "Greetings! We three are the intentional creations of the master." As opposed to inheriting doomed tentacled men or sprouting love bunnies, it seemed. "Bon. Sen. Dai. How may we help you with--" Wait, what were they doing again? Curious because of the sound the rabbits were slowly closing in and being a little distracting. "Writing." The voice had dropped out and lost any previous tone matching, but she'd managed to remember. And who was this guy again? "Erucchi." Well, it'd been a while since the cat had seen him. If the cat even understood that his name had been affixed with a friend suffix which was eventually phased out in favor of affectionately abbreviating it instead. So he was considered a friend to have the suffix, and even more special to have it removed! "I can play cards. Writing shouldn't be hard? Or typing?" But she was small, and still a cat. Why not try to pawn the work off on someone else? "Unless another familiar can better assist you?"

Any rhyme or reasoning to the page order seemed to random, alphabetical here and nonsensical there. A few more tarred and stamped pages were present, as well as a few more relevant pages to the family in question. Another image featured a bright-eyed youth, though the eyes in question were individually blue and red. His curly hair was both black and white, and his anatomy seemed to showcase this divided nature as well. One leathery bat wing on one side of his head, and one feathery angel wing on the other. The clothes he wore were similar to Iske's, though the clawed feet and greyish-green skin showed him to be quite different.

Quote:
Marcellus de Sada. Devil-angel imp hybrid. Associate of Irazoki Iske. Too young to be considered dangerous. Too ambitious to be left unwatched. Observations ongoing.

Seemed the book had a bit of a beastiary as well, detailing the more animal-like creatures the world had to provide. What appeared to be an etching of a normal bee... wasn't quite when compared to the figure of a person next to it. Bigger than a person. That shouldn't be possible, right? Well.

Quote:
Irazoki monster bee. Only found in Irazoki. Size and appearance approximate as only corpse has been seen topside. Presumably used as a familiar but evidence suggests may be used as a pet or for agricultural purposes.

She'd said as much, that they operated in the agricultural region. Her reasoning for her career might not have only been out of selfish preference but sheer functionality as well.

As for the person that would likely be loudly and most certainly snidely commenting about all of the other pages, even the oddity of cats loudly speaking through other cats wasn't enough to bother her much. He might feel the occasional tensing of the fingers of one of her hands on his back but they weren't attempting to grasp at him specifically. Though it seemed that for once accidental touches were probably the least of his worries. "Can't... without... you." Presumably she was talking to the figure of him that her unconscious self was seeing and some of it happened to be seeping into real life. He'd finally gotten to reading and she was finally mostly quiet and still the bombardment of distractions would not stop!
PostPosted: Thu Apr 16, 2015 11:09 pm

Luckily for him he was not drinking anything, otherwise the poor cats would have gotten an impromptu shower! "Er." Should he be occupied that the cat can talk - ah, know what? It should hardly be a surprise anymore. What should? - or that it could play cards and write, or that it probably learnt his nickname via Amarante? Okay, a moment to gather his thoughts, done.

Let's see, typing was definitely easier, if Bon (Bon? Like the candy bonbon?) could identify letters and have a paw small enough to type on a screen, but being the backwards fellow he was in fields outside his specialty, he had only a notepad for memos and a pen. Curiously, he pulled both out of his pocket, taking care not to rock Amarante's head too much, and offered it to the - hey, really? He was going to let the cat write his notes?
Or, a better idea since there were three cats. He took the tome instead and held it out to them. "I think I can write. I'll just need the three of you to help me hold this up, and flip the page if need be." Ah, that would be a much simpler job. And he could skip the dictating, or trying to decode cat handwr - er, paw-writing?
But he needs a table to write. Er. Come here, flying folder. This could be used as a table, and a cleanup spot. Tearing out a spare page of notepaper to use as a blotter in case any spare drops would get onto the manila, pen in hand, and ready. Notes on Amarante first, notes on Iske, notes on Marcellus, notes on a bee....! A bee?! Was that what she used for her coffee bean plantation?! Oh dear, she certainly was not kidding about that. The idea of her growing a giant tomato plant somehow seemed less and less out of the question now that he realized she probably had giant bee workers to help.

Snicker, snicker. A passing glance at the redhead, a fleeting curiosity at what she might be dreaming of. Must be a sweet dream. Pat her head, why not? It might add to her enjoyment. There, there. Oh yeah, that bruise on her head and neck.

Hey, he could take a proper look at it now that she was asleep, right? And he could treat it, with that emergency bottle of panacea. Question, did he dare? This was an intrusion of privacy, wasn't it. But she would wake up with a painless head. And it's just topical application. Would it work on her? He should be studying. But medical aid! Oooooh, so confusing, it's overloading!
Wait, he had notes. Open that file to... Here it was. That black file that Miyabi passed him. There might be information on the effects of human antibiotics somewhere in there. Or better yet, topical antiseptic creams. Did she use them, or did she just wait until her injuries faded? Why was he not surprised if she waited? Oh well.

Or, he could also just ask the cats. How was he so incredibly dense? ".... Sorry. Does your ma - Ama use topical creams? Like, um, antiseptics? Or antibiotics?" Surely her familiars would know if she did. Right?

Oh, he was taking in the idea of communicative cats rather well. Though they likely would've stared at him indifferently with their large eyes and optical sensors all the same. Tilting her head towards the cat androids below her, Bon seemed unbothered. "That sounds simple enough." Only to get a smart answer out of the white automaton, his voice low and discourteous. "For you, especially." Only to get a frazzled little rebuttal out of the shadow cat. "Your bodies are meant to assist! I am merely a companion!" And while they were being as cats were, the black cat robot underneath Bon's feet had wheeled herself over to the book in question and rotated her shell and limbs around to perfectly support the book in question. "Like this?" The voice came out of the same speaker as Bon's, but was decidedly more girly. Unwilling to let his partner be damaged by the chance of the book toppling over due to the unbalanced weight, over slinked Sen to begrudgingly mirror Dai. "Tch. As long as he's not flustering the master to the point of interfering with her lab work my concern is little." Oho, that cat remembered Erhard as well. They'd met during one of her obligatory periods of lab work, hadn't they? And apparently someone was still a little sore about it. Relocating herself to Dai's head, Bon questioned how they were doing with what he'd requested. "Suitable?"

Unconsciously the head he patted leaned into his hand a little. Not much, but enough to be noticed. It was obvious that she wasn't awake if the movement wasn't sudden and wasn't followed by trying to capture that hand, right? And he was too considerate, but that seemed to be just his way. She'd already consented to him doing whatever he wanted at her at any given time, right? And as crass as that was to not only say but occasionally repeat at him, medical care easily fit into that as well as anything unsavory did. Faint traces of green and yellow were already surfacing in her bruises, but a skull fracture was hardly so simple for even someone that healed more quickly than most. While the skin hadn't been broken there was definitely some swelling. Still no visible fluid or blood leaking from her ears and nose though other than the smear of blood in her ear that was too little and old to be mistaken as related. The lot of the injuries were tender to the touch but not particularly something that would awaken her if he was careful.

And the cats certainly left a lot to be desired when it came to assisting with the matter. "Anti... septic?" Bon repeated the word back at him but clearly had no recognition of what it was supposed to be. As one of Amarante's lab partners Dai seemed to understand but questioned just what use it would be. "Accelerated healing should bypass any means for infection, shouldn't it?" The terse voice of Sen agreed. "Conceivably." As the oldest and most knowledgeable of the three when it came to Amarante's behavior, Bon decided to explain the subject a little further. "Waiting out the healing period by some manner of mind-altering substance is usually how it tends pan out. But rather alcohol than anything heavier that might have been relied upon in the past." What little cats cared to retain about all of it, he seemed to be some sort of doctor and probably wouldn't be all that pleased if they told him exactly what that had been. "She may still use the kiseru but it's only ever caramel tobacco. And the drinking is limited." The sweet voice of Dai chimed in, eager to try to helpfully explain as well. "Yeah! Since she met him she hasn't even--" A soft swat from the tiny paw of Bon stopped any further mention of that. With consternation Sen made a quick note to his naive partner. "That's unrelated." He'd just end up frozen if he asked, wouldn't he? Well, they probably wouldn't see the harm in telling him if he did. The dangers of being around chatty cats!

Oh, they were good. Just suppress that urge to ask all of them to roll over and play fetch, okay? "Just nice. Thank you." There, done with this page. This actually was not so bad. "Next page, please?"

As expected of Amarante. Did 'mind-altering substances' also mean chocolate, by any chance? Or coffee? Caffeine was such an effective painkiller sometimes... Or maybe that was just him. But well, chiding Amarante on her drinking and smoking habits now was a no. Maybe he'd nag a little, but she was different from a normal human, were tar and hepatitis even problems for her? Most likely not. "Hasn't even...?" Well, he had better steady that frail ice maker if the answer was one that warranted two 'shut up's. Where's that bottle? Aha, coat pocket. With convenient sterile swabs too! Just a few items shy of carrying a full first aid kit in his pockets, then. But would anyone not expect him to not do so? However! "... Would she mind?" It wouldn't do for her to wake up and realize that he had put something on her head while she was asleep, anyway. "It should help with the swelling a bit, and soreness." And shorten the healing duration, but she got that part down pat already.

Okay, so maybe he was not really one for chatting while doing work. Just listen to them go on, for now. It was always too quiet in the office, it had always been. Might as well take the chance to listen to a little background noise, even if it came from three cats and their napping mistress. Besides, one was already talking like he was not even there, so why not just follow and be quiet?

The arrangement of the cats worked well for his purposes, with Bon sitting on Dai's head leaving her in an ideal position to turn pages. Once she'd done so, she stared at the information on the pages quite placidly. It didn't seem that important to her. Another sort of monster that he was unlikely to meet, and unlikely to fight. "This information is interesting?" She looked up to Erhard with her exceptionally round eyes. "Helpful?" For the most part the books were tended to but never used. It was certainly interesting that someone wanted to find a use for them.

At first his vague questioning was met with silence from the cats. Only for the feminine black cats to turn their gaze to their white-shelled male companion, much to his discontent. "Why do I have to... tch, fine." Seems that the brusque little cat android was expected to have a man-to-man talk with the doctor. Easing off the simulated discomfort by an imitation of a throat clearing, Sen approached the subject with care yet coolness. "In the same way that mind-altering substances flood the senses to forget bodily and mental pain, the endorphins present through losing one's self with the body of another is equally effective." Clear enough in his terms yet practical enough in his language. Maybe there'd be a possibility of his message being understood without icy petrification being involved. That the information was coming from someone that didn't seek involvement with him had to help. But, he hadn't made it to his point just yet. "Being that the master's 'purpose' involves her body being used as an object, as a whole it's not a subject she takes as more than another element of socialization." Well, a standard had to be established before he explained that she was straying from it. "But whether due to safety reasons or sentimentality, we've seen no sight of any such temporary people since the master made your acquaintance." What Erhard would do with that information was none of Sen's business. Though he did see it fit to add a comment of his own, sounding more than a little amused over his own observation. "And whether it's a subject you're interested in or not, seems she'd rather do as you like than any way else." Which seemed to include abstaining completely. So decided and dedicated, and with nary a word of acknowledgment regarding it! Seemed she was a creature beyond the understanding of more than one simulated creature.

And yet, drawing the admiration of another. "It's so romantic~" Despite sharing a palette swap of the same cat-shaped shell, the personality of Sen's sister model couldn't have been more different. Which he was quick to acknowledge. "If you're into that sort of thing." To the dismay of Dai, who had no issue in saying so. "Brother Sen is stingy." Spinning her head around whimsically, she questioned the obvious caution the man had in simply doing his job. "Oh, why would she mind being treated by someone as cute as you?" One could question what that had to do with anything. But in her amalgamation of a mind, what wouldn't that have to do with it?

That certainly depended on someone's definition of 'interesting' or 'helpful', wouldn't it? He sighed and shook his head. "It's interesting to read about to me, but the people I'm noting this down for might say otherwise. It's not particularly helpful in my line of work however, but they can probably make very good use of it should the time come." It was better to have something to refer to in the case of emergencies, even if his notes were most likely going to be shelved somewhere out of sight for most of the time. Funny he would worry about that than worry about whether said recipients could even read his handwriting to begin with.

Curiously, there was no sudden icicles or glaciers appearing. There was not even that slight drop of temperature, no, not even after he had taken in all of Sen's words. Perhaps the difference really was in the execution of information delivery after all. But of course, the link between her endorphin source getting changed still sailed right over his head. "It's probably for safety reasons," he said, glancing at the still-sleeping Amarante. "Can't risk anyone getting second-hand contact, maybe." Or just trying not to get nagged at by him, he supposed too. "Which is a good thing, don't get me wrong, but um..." Should his presence really be affecting her social life that much? And she changed her lifestyle quite drastically in a few places, all because of a few words he said long ago. Haha, it felt so distant now, it was practically getting foggy in his head.

"I.... What?" No, not the disbelief, but the simple non-understanding stayed his hand. Drip, drip. Oops. Emergency tissues to the rescue! Hopefully she did not wake up simply because a few drops of cooling stuff had gotten onto her neck. Er. Right. Gently, he nudged her around, brushed away her hair and collar, dabbed at both wounds with the gel-soaked swab and covered them with bandage squares. There, all done. Just nudge her back to her original sleeping position, and she should be alright when she wakes up. He hoped. Instead of waking up and banging her head against something else.

Bon seemed to be unsurprised by his candid answer, but also seemed to have her own understanding of the issue. "Hmm, really! Right? What use would any notes be upon running into Mr. Iske?" Just what understanding he'd have of a person he'd likely only heard of all of moment before was uncertain. In place of that, she'd place her own determination. "It'd be too late." It was a statement that was presented in a fashion that was quite matter-of-fact rather than fearfully. There was likely many a reason to fear such a man but it seemed to matter little to, what was still as a whole, a cat.

"Mm. It has to factor into matters, certainly." Sen might've sounded a little happy, being able to speak sensibly to someone for once. Though he wouldn't avoid the heart of the matter, wishing to understand what made the doctor hesitate so. "But is it troubling, to have someone deliberately make room in their life for you?" Rather than a question being rooted in deep thought, however, it seemed to be a more casual query. A sleepy sort of acceptance settled into his voice waves and a flop onto the floor might end up accompanying what he was about to say if his joints weren't currently locked into supporting a book. "Well, regardless of how you feel about it. What's done is done." Nah, the little cat wasn't going to get all mushy on him. No suggestions towards romance or anything like it. From his perspective what had happened was perfectly clear. "She does what's unexpected of her. We're used to these matters." And before Erhard had a chance determine that the whole matter had been the result of a flighty mind, Sen continued. "You're not a whim to her, but rather... making a space in her life reserved for you alone is just another one of those things." Truly, aside from the occasional observation from romance-minded individuals it was never a situation portrayed as anything particularly special or miraculous. More the matter of an accident that wasn't necessarily fortuitous. Was it her earnest nature in how she regarded it and went about it what made it, outside of the most cutthroat of individuals, difficult to criticize regardless of all that? Or was it that she was to be considered beyond saving? Any way around it, the little bundle of tired seemed set on staying by his side no matter what.

"Oh, he doesn't know he's cute." Any further comments of that nature were curbed, because of Amarante tensing in her sleep due to a further sense of cold than what she was becoming accustomed to. Though after a few quick breaths she settled down again easily enough. Naturally someone so like an animal could be unconsciously soothed by a scent she not only was familiar with but sought out. Pressing into him a little more tightly than before, her face ended up mashed into one side of his back and her opposite hand lightly clutched at the other. Still mostly out of the way, though definitely more than a little strange. Such a sense of vulnerability was shown as she slept, though, with a light shivering that seemed to be unrelated to his temperature as it was eased away as she settled in once more. So silly, to have a little cat-like person practically latched to his back while he studied. Could it be considered endearing, though, since it was clear just how much the closeness meant to her?
