Also, how did Pyre get ahead of me in the achievements? razz

Because you don't pay attention to the event-specific ones. And I had my birthday.

Yay! Finals are over!

Also, I got lots of unexpected free food. I got to the French room just as the class before us was letting out. They'd had a party and had cookies left over. The prof offered me one, which was AMAZING because I didn't have much for breakfast and was already hungry. A nice fluffy chocolate chip, one of those ones that are super-thick because the baker just left the batter plopped instead of ironing it out. Mmmm...

And when I was leaving my massotherapist's office, she was all "Hey, somebody was in earlier and they left these two slices of lasagna. They said they don't want to come back in for them. Do you want them?" Heck yes! It was pretty good, too.

I just wanna curl into a ball and forget all my troubles. If only it was that easy. ;A;

Wow, Sony. You really must have the worst PR people ever. Well, your security too, but still.

This is well-established.

...man, I wish I'd spent the last three hours playing Portal instead of cleaning and sending photos to my mom, 'cause now I'm tired and just want to watch a movie. But at least I feel like I deserve to play now, instead of feeling guilty about not having cleaned.

True, but you would think at this point they would have hired someone to deal with these things properly.

Guess not, though I can't say I'm totally shocked. Hell, I only just today got their email about the whole debacle, over a week after the fact.

I don't understand how Game of Thrones can do such an amazing job with the sets, and then utterly fail at wardrobe. Where are all of the magnificent suits of armor Martin described? The wigs they've got on the Targaryen siblings are horrible. The burns are on the wrong side of Sandor's face. And Renly is the worst of all. Short hair and the drabbest grey and black clothing they could come up with.

The Mineiro whatsit evolving item looks kind of like Raja's outfit for the drag reunion that was on tonight... Lul.

The Game of Thrones on HBO has me re-reading all his books, and stumbling upon such things as the GRRMblers... Yay, entitlement!

I'm not sure why you're professing your love, but I'll go with it. biggrin Oh, and they really need to give Varys some suitably ostentatious robes, because he's looking a tad Uncle Festor-y.

Quote:
At that first Brotherhood party, in 2001, a tipsy reveller (this is a crowd that likes to lift a glass) asked Martin to knight him. Martin said, “I can’t knight you. You haven’t gone on a quest yet!” When his petitioner implored Martin to invent one, he sent the fan and several others off in search of Philly cheesesteaks. When their prize was secured, Martin dubbed the group the Knights of the Cheesesteak.

That's just bloody brilliant!

And only six years? These GRRuMblers are all pussies! I've been waiting FOURTEEN for the end of Night World. The worst part being that it's a YA series and I probably won't relate to it at all when the damned thing does come out. But my inner twelve-year-old wants closure.

The crazy-assed author disappeared for ten years, only re-emerging to capitalize on the current vampire trend and utterly rape another one of her series. Maybe you should finish Strange Fate first? I mean, I can understand the headache continuity must be for somebody like Martin, but given the plethora of mistakes in TVD: The Return, that's really not her hang-up. The first few pages had so many things that broke my brain, that I knew I couldn't read it. The antisocial badboy vampire Damon, who left at the end of the last book, is still hanging around town. Spying on minor characters, no less. Said minor character's only real personality trait was that she was utterly clueless about the supernatural, but now she's summoning demons. And Damon, who spent the first four books trying to seduce anything with a pulse, is thinking that she is "safe" from him because apparently vampires can't have sex. But's it's okay if he broke his p***s somewhere between Dark Reunion and Nightfall, because he's also picked up the ability to levitate. Guess that crow form is superfluous, now...

And it's nothing so complex that one simple read-through would not have solved. No time to read such a tiny series? No problem! I know tons of fans who know the books by heart and who even work in the entertainment industry. But nooo... (And, quite hilariously, she's been fired from writing the third unnecessary TVD trilogy. When your editors tell you something is crap, and you don't actually own creative rights, maybe you should listen to them. Actually, you should probably listen to them regardless.) Oh well, more time to work on Strange Fate and blog about how it is everybody else's fault that it isn't out yet! I may never get a satisfying conclusion, but bogdammit, I'll always have the snark!

Your impassioned opinion on GoT caught me off guard. User Image

There are quite a few things I can let slide in HBO's production... mainly because I understand there have to be some sacrifices in order to get it from book to screen in the first place. The one thing, however, which is truly testing my patience: their handling of the direwolves.

For one, I'm sorry, but they look like dogs. They chose the "closest dogs to look like wolves", but they're still dogs. And we hardly ever see them. We haven't learned all of their names, let alone the importance of Bran not having named Summer until he awoke. Shaggy Dog and Grey Wind have scarcely been seen at all, and where in the hell is Ghost!?! We saw him once, when he was found, and now we don't even know if he's at The Wall with John or not. Terrible handling of the direwolves, in my opinion. User Image

Yeah, the direwolves thing is bugging me, too. I wanted to see lots more of Ghost. I kinda passed it off as not having the resources to bring in trained wolves much, but HBO was able to get actual wolves for True Blood. And give them plenty of screentime.

I think I'm more disappointed by the glossing-over of dream sequences, which seemed pretty important to the book. And I was really hoping for some proper flashbacks instead of just "Oh hey, remember that one time during the war...?" It feels a bit like they're rushing it, and if Martin is as slow to write the next two books as he was on the 5th... well... Slow down and flesh some things out!

And the actor they got for Jon bugs me more every week. He's so damned sullen all the time. Not that Jon doesn't have angsty moments, but I thought he had a sense of humour, too. I don't think I've seen this guy smile once. I don't know if he can't act or just has a messed-up interpretation of the character, but... egh. When your performance alone can make me go from thinking you're drop-dead gorgeous to Hodor-level stupid. Not great. Actually, where was he when they were casting Stefan for TVD? With that hair (although I get the feeling that is just for the GoT role and I have no idea why) he would have at least looked the part more. And since TV Stefan got stripped of the slightest bit of humour more through script than casting... Well, I still wouldn't have watched more than 2 episodes.

Not that GoT is all bad, but you know I like to b***h. If we have three (four?) guildies watching this maybe we could actually *gasp* make a new topic for this? Maybe I'd talk about the things they did right, then. surprised

You know, there is something seriously wrong with me that my most active fandom (LJS) is basically just snarking about all of the horrible things the Twilight trend has brought about in regards to other YA authors and marketing of the series. But damn it, the WAY some of the twenty-somethings I've met snark is just too damned funny. Setz always said the way I went about bitching made him laugh, so hopefully I do my part. And there's nothing quite like taking a beloved part of your childhood and satirizing the hell out of it - just look at Robot Chicken.
