Mr. Cubby

ijoans
Destiny had just happened to work her way to the bow of the ship, when she heard a familiar voice over the wind and the rain.
" By the great horned whales! Its Mr. Cubby!' she thought to herself.
Cupping her hands around her mouth she hollared " Hey Cubby! Good to see you back on the Lady, where you belong!!! Missed you.. had to do all the menial work myself-seeing as how my slave ran off-" She winked at him. " Grab some tools and get to work.. there should be a beaker of hangover remedy still in the galley. Get yourself a swig, then get to work!

yes! someone that won't call me ugly like the maidenhead.
okay i'll explain my absence. no. there is too much, i'll summarize.
were are we? why is it so loud out? what is this, OWW, large lump in the back of my head? *glomps*why am i hugging you just now? why is the answer to "how tall is the ships mast?" red? how the hell did i just throw up over the side, i've never done that?
*falls over into her arms and drools*
it's good to be back among the living, i think. (which comes out more like,"iss goobee ackg amotheh live, turtle soup please.")

*Grabbing his speaking trumpet, he calls to the Maindeck*

"Mr. Cubby, I must insist that you quit your drunken stupor immediatley. It's disturbing young children and the rest of the RP is being slowed by your insubordinate behavior. Please try to sober up and get to your dutys. On the double."

Destiny looked down at Cubby, who had somehow falled from the deck into her arms. She shook her head at the snockered man in her lap.
" Hey Lutra, would you give me a hand in dragging him down to the galley and out of the way? I think that there's some hangover remedy left over, and that might bring him around." She hooked an arm under one of his, and someone else grabbed the other arm. They dragged him down to the galley, and Destiny opened his mouth, and poured in a bit of the hangover remedy, and then set back to watch the remedy work.

Wandering out of the tavern, she stepped out into the sunshine catching the silver in her necklace and making it shine. Smiling she brought her hand to her throat in a familiar gesture, caressing the warm, warn metal. Making her way down the dock, she glanced at each ship, looking for a name worn into the planks and washed by the sea.

Humming a familiar tune to keep her company, she wandered like a small, lost child down the dirty planks inching closer to the water with each step.

*The sunshine would be short lived. As Mr. Cubby was drug below 'tween decks, the Captain turned to the Crew, now able to hear due to the sudden halt of the torrential downpour, and began to bark out orders.*

NOW, ALL HANDS TO THEIR STATIONS! PREPARE TO MAINSAIL HAUL."

*Mounting the sideladder, he made his way up onto the deck and then climbed into the shrouds. Soon he soon upon the fighting tops, but that wasn't enough. Placing his boot in the stirrups, he kept climbing until he stood upon the crosstrees upon the very heights of the Maintop. Taking the spyglass that was slung about his back, he steadied himself against the mast and set his gaze upon the City of Toulon.

The Civilians were beginning to return to their homes, and the lights that burnt within began to show threw the dense fog. With all chances, Kurisutofa was hoping to catch a glimpse of Dr. Baxter & Miss Jaden's whereabouts. They would need to doubletime back to the ship in order to make the sail. If they didn't make it, they would have to take refuge within a war-battered building until the Lady returned ashore.

Scanning the horizon, a distant & small figure appeared in his glass. Though clear as it was, he could not make out who the figure was. If it was Baxter or the Stowaway Jaden, one had killed the other, or they had seperated... either way, a boat had to be sent ashore. Luckily, he had already dispatched Miss Sparrow ashore to check in on the shore party.

Overwhelmingly confused and frusterated at his not knowing, he tried to focus the glass in on the mysterious figure.*

Oh Strange & Beautiful Creature From The Myst?"

Lutra nodded in understanding of her command as she ran back on deck. looking around, she began stowing anything she found.

Her parisol securly fastened into the crook of her elbow she used its shade to glance over the pristine water. The shimmer of sun caused her to squint and in an instant she thought she saw a magnificent ship. Shaking her head, she looked again, but could not find it in the dancing waves.

Where you just a mirrage?
PostPosted: Thu May 18, 2006 7:09 pm

"Curse my eyes... blasted fog. Too Damned Thick"

*Squinting, he twirls the tube around in his fingers, hoping to focus the telescope well enough to be able to make out who the person might be. Giving up, he slings the spyglass over his shoulders, grabs hold of a stancheon and rides it to the deck far below.*

"I refuse to let the weather get the best of me."

*Going to the bow, he climbs up and over the jib and nestles upon the beakhead. Lodging himself, he clears his glass and once again peers out.*

"There you are you bloody....

eek

..beautiful woman."

Deciding her eyes are playing tricks on her she moves into the shade of a tall tree. Looking up into its branches, she spies small birds at work building their nests. Entranced by the variety of splended color she closes her parrisol and sits still trying to coax them to rest upon her.

Growing tired of standing still, she finds her eyes wandering to the sea again. To her shock she spies the same mirrage ship she thought only an illusion created by the heat of the day. A spark of familiarity washes over her suddenly and her eyes dart to the hull, trying to pick out the ships name.

"BLASTED! I LOST HER!!!"

*Finding himself cursing aloud for all to hear, he blushes and shuts his gob. The Crew couldn't know he was spying on a woman. It would put a dark omen upon his good name.

Retiring from his hunt, he returned to the Quarterdeck and looked into the Rigging. The Topmen had begun to secure the Fore'course & the Main Topsail. The Wind, now blowing South Sou'West, filled the sails aback. As the wind built up, the ship eased herself off the beach and drifted into the deeper shallows of the Bay of Toulon.*

"MR. QUASAN, THE LEAD IF YOU'D PLEASE!"

*Putting the helm hard over, the ship continued to drift aft, but now having changed her footing began to swing wide to the left. Her stern gallery now looked directly to the shore that seemed to grow ever closer.

Turning and leaning on the leerail, Kurisutofa looked to the docks once more to see if the woman might still be there,
but seeing as how she'd stepped out of the sun, he'd lost her.*

*She nods curtly to the other doctor before slinging the bag over her shoulder. Off in the distance, she could hear the sounds of the boat easing back into its proper position. Jaden looked quickly towards the bay before looking back to the Doctor*

"Well Doctor, we better move quickly... the storm seems to have slowed us up quite a bit. If there was anything else you need to get, we'd best hurry... I hear the ship creaking back up into it's upright position..." she said as she motioned towards the Bay.

*The storm seemed to have let up a bit in the city but had strangely moved it's way back over the bay. The curious arch of the storm seemed to have picked Toulon as a place merely to pick on, as if for amusement. It was still raining heavily as the sun as it desperately tried to peak it's way around the still looming clouds of thunder still present in the Bay. The store awnings hung low, sopping with water, dripping slowly while the winds still pushed the signs in their creaky solitude.

Still in her wet clothes, Jaden walked out into the rain and looked back at him. In her haste to acquire items for herself, she had missed the obvious of changing out of her drenched attire into some of the items she had just pilfered. The rain started to flatten and curl her hair once more as she waited for the Doctor to decide where they needed to go before they departed.*

Baxter knew their time ashore was running short. He quickened his pace in order to see his errands done before his time was up. He hoped for her sake that Jaden would be able to keep up.

Stopping at the apothecary, he grabbed what mixtures he knew he needed, placing them in wooden crates and burlap sacks, basically whatever was around.

He then visited the spirits shoppe adjacent to the tavern and produced a few bottles that were to his liking, two brandy and one bourbon. He placed those in his satchel and moved on.

As he returned outside once more, the doctor did not know whether it be night or day as a dense fog had shrouded the entire town and bay. The moisture hung in the air, and it was impossible to see more than 5 feet ahead, and that was a strain. He decided it best to skip his foray to the library. He felt he should return to the beach rather than risk being inadvertanly left behind. Jaden was no doubt close behind.

((Sorry I haven't been on Cap'n. Computer problems...))

-He went ahead and took the lead to perform the order of getting the measurements for the captain. He dropped it in to record the measurement. The water seemed to fall in between the mark of 3 and 5.-

"Captain! Its a deep four!"
PostPosted: Fri May 19, 2006 1:03 pm

"Thank you Mr. Quasan. Stay at the rail and take dpeth measurements every two minutes. Is that clear? I hope you can do that. Your role is vital."

*He'd been pondering over recent happenings with Crew in his head and had come to a decision. Mr. Cubby would not do as the Ship's Purser. He was a downright drunk and not all that good at his appointed tasks. He'd be better kept as an able bodied seaman. A simple hand. In time he'd find a new purser. One that would perform on the behalf of the Lady's account books. Calling to Miss Lutra.*

"Miss Lutra, lay aft, if you please! I'd like you to go below and inform Mr. Cubby that his place as Ship's Purser has been stripped from him. He's in no condition to act as a respectable warrant officer in his drunken state."

*Toughing his hat, he nods to her*

"That will be all. Thank You Miss Lutra."

*Eyeing the Fore to'gallant, he watched as it filled and backed with the indecisive wind. Needing to harness the wind before it failed them, he called out his next set of orders.*

"FORETOP TO'GALLANT REEFED & SET. ALL HANDS TO BRACES.
LET GO AND HAUL! BRING HER DOWN AND AROUND & BELAY."

As the ship slowly turned she could read her name. Breath caught in her throat making it hard to breathe. Caughing she looked again at the ghost ship she had left behind years ago.

Finding her feet moving she soon found herself on the edge of the dock with the wind whipping around her tugging her towards the sea.
