I hate events that require me to post. Especially for short holiday events. Maybe I'm just getting old, but every event forum looks like chicken-scratch chatterbox nonsense. (I much prefer Roli's "Hey. Here's a page of event items. Have fun." approach.)

We're now one month and one day away from the premiere of Game of Thrones. Epic.

Weren't they always like that? It's worse with this one, though. Apparently certain St. Patty's Day words summon the leprechaun bot, who posts in your thread, then gets quoted by somebody completely OT just for the item, whom he then quotes, and on and on.

Huh. I thought I missed it. Wasn't it supposed to premiere in winter? Would have made more sense. I'm still only halfway through the first book. I keep getting side-tracked by other shinies. And it's just so damned heavy. I need a digital reader that doesn't suck.

First and foremost... holy crap, notifications on being quoted in guild posts?!? User Image

Well, at least other events have quite a few non-posting related things to them. Caroling, fighting ghosts, clickety-clicking things... the actual "posting gets you s**t" is often weak at best. So when it becomes the prominent form of event item acquisition... yeah, bah.

Oddly I've seen the bot carryi8ng on conversations with people. Hm.

Well, the theme of 'Winter is Coming' has been the fandom rally cry for ages, and took center stage with the announcement of the series. (It's also the title of the first episode.) It doesn't actually begin airing until April 17th, though. The other big ASoIaF info announced this year was that the fifth book, A Dance With Dragons is finally being released. This year, even!

The books are pretty hefty, but I honestly find the series to be one of my all time favorites as far as characters, setting, and political machinations. Martin doesn't write in good guy/bad guy, black/white character classifications. Everyone's gray in as far as who's doing what for which reasons.

I didn't mean "It's too long to hold my attention" so much as "It's too damned big and there is no comfortable way to hold this ********." I got an e-reader for Christmas. Unfortunately, the person who bought it knows nothing about e-readers and got the one with the most asanine extras (it plays MP3's!) and not the most actual functionality. I gave up trying to get it to work after trying to charge it for three nights in a row and it never holding a charge. All I can figure is that it keeps getting bumped on or off when I don't mean to because some genius decided the power-button should be in the lower right hand corner - exactly the spot I would be holding a book. And apparently the only way to actually connect and download books is via wi-fi, which I do not have set up. THEN WHY THE HELL DID YOU INCLUDE THIS USB CORD? The design flaws on this thing just break my brain - but it apparently sells for more than a Kindle. WTF?

Well, yes, hefty in their bulkitude. I find myself having to sit at weird angles when I'm trying to read comfortably on my lunch breaks. I more so meant the latter part of that along the lines of how it was compelling enough for me to push through the awkward "why is my hand cramping, oh god, oh god" state.

I never could get behind the concept of e-readers. I understand there are people that like them and how convenient they are, but to me it just feels awkward reading a book and not actually holding it. Page turning and whatnot. It's just not for me.

The one you have just sounds like a technology breakdown.

(Side note realized after the fact: "It's too damned big and there is no comfortable way to hold this ********." and "why is my hand cramping, oh god, oh god" = "that's what she said")

I'm kinda on the fence with e-readers. The interface doesn't much appeal to me, but books are kinda taking over my house. I could sure as hell fit more e-books on a hard-drive than actual books on a shelf. And when I got that one as a gift, my first thought was "Hey, wonder if I can download that doorstopper on it and plow through it." And I could. For a good $15 less. If only it was a Kindle. As it is, I can't even get the ******** to stay on for five minutes. And then I'd have to run to some free wi-fi zone to get books on it. (Another fail? It came preloaded with tons of gothic novels from Project Gutenberg, but no Phantom!)

And I always wind up in some weird modified yoga position when I read books that big. I'll start out trying to read it like a normal book until my arms give out. Then I try to lay on my side. And eventually I wind up with it sitting on the bed in front of me while I sit cross-legged and essentially curl into a ball to get my near-sighted eyes close enough to read the pages. It works for the first day. If I have to go to sleep before I finish the book, I wake up wondering what train ran me over in my sleep and "Oh, maybe I shouldn't do that again."

I'm a regular of the comics discussion forum. I stopped actually buying single issues at least a decade ago, but I still read them week to week. Piracy has got me well accustomed to reading on a screen. I'd never pay for an e-reader though, since I have a smart phone that runs kindle and nook formats. I like it because I have a whole library at my command for my lunch breaks. Not to mention since it plays MP3's I've been relistening to A Song of Ice and Fire while I work out at the gym.

I still need something tangible for my shelf and for the option, but damned if the ereading isn't convenient. And it had better not be another half decade before Book 6 is done.

Learning about brain dysfunction isn't nearly as fun when your dog starts to act strange in the worst possible way. Edit: okay, he's doing better now... god that was scary. D:

I hate this month.

I really need to make a new avatar. I don't even know how long I've been using this one. Since before Christmas, when I changed briefly, I think. I can't believe I saved so hard for Persephone and still haven't used it. I fail.

re: e-readers, I can see the appeal for myself in 2 situations only: travel and the gym. I read fast, so bringing enough books to keep me occupied on a trip means weighing down my bag; and at the gym I don't want to bring books to read on the machines because they don't stay open unless you like ruining them by folding them over. That's something I just won't do. So I read trashy magazines instead (well, I would read non-trashy ones, but my gym is heavy to the Us Weekly and light to the Economist). I'd prefer to be reading something actually interesting. I could stick an e-reader up on the little shelf jobby and just poke at it to turn a page, and the rest of the time have my hands free.

Oh God. I added a few people I always see in dinglepop to my contact list for omgpop so I could find good matches easier. Instead, I got e-drama.

omg why u attck me ervy tiiiiiiiim? i nver even tuch u nad u kill me evry tim we play 2gether

Seriously? SERIOUSLY? Is there some fine print I missed that says I'm not supposed to play strategically because we're interweb buddies? And really not even that, because I have no interest in you beyond that I thought you were a challenging opponent, but apparently you're just a sore loser?

Now if only the job promotion news goes as well as the apartment news did. *fingerscrossed* At least with the apartment I was able to convince myself we didn't get it so getting it made me ridiculously excited, but I really have no idea about the promotion...so...instead I'm just nervous. D:

And geeze, who would've thought playing baseball on the beach would make you so sore? x.x

Two and a half years spent working toward this promotion down the drain. Awesome.
