I don't know if I would call it magic. Natural abilities... Use of Aura or self energy would be more like it...

Of which I disregard completely since I seem to recall him stating a seraphim being his origional state of existance. I suppose he might have been considered a demon in a figurative sense, meh. But then again he does exibit the characteristics of a monster born in the firey depths of hell. That just relates to the debate of what dictates what a demon and an angel are? But meh I'm getting off track. Mastema was an angel of sorts at one point, wasn't he?

I'll have to take out that defective third the next time I give Eecheb a check up....... In response to Mas being an angel, he was definitely a celestial before becoming his amorphous goo. When he recently transformed into his 'young' state, he stated he was an 'extended angel,' but he hasn't really bothered to say what the hell that is.

To give the non plot filled explanation of it, the extended angel type Mas refers to is a severely altered angel type with vastly different characteristics. The differences are so great that it's debatable whether an extended angel is an angel at all.
