Okay, I'm building the Ira on a 3D object builder (Wings3D, it's free-ware, so you can download and mess with it without any fees or such) and I have a question. "the rear engines", does that mean that there's two (dumb question, I need to take hints easier) Are they side-by-side, or a gap between them? Are they pivotal (rail holding them in place on the wings) or hinged (attached to ship's rear)? I would guess the ship to be about 50m long, 30m wide and 20m tall, for proportional reasons. I'm also going to re-work the stair system a bit for the third level (where I'll place the infirmary). I know I'm getting a little too 'into' the ship, but I have a desperate need to make something with this program I just got, so I have something to put on my DevArt other than scraps...
[[ also, I'm just pickin' on Kelly because so far everyone has up to page 30 (I'm a gettin' there) Rex shall be nice to Kelly... as long as he doesn't kill Rex in his sleep... ]]

Well... I've had... some... okay, not that big, but changes done to the layout. I had to make it proportional, as the average human is 5'6" and 2 meters= 6'6" so, most of the ship's ceilings are only 2m tall, and overall the ship is (layout-wise, haven't even begun on the outside @_@) 36m(L)•8m(W)•7.5m(H), which the outside will be 40m•10m•8m, a very nice sized, while long, ship. With the engines, I'm going to make the two rear ones pivotal just above/behind the engine room and the engine pods on the wings be about 2m diameter. I'm going to throw on a missile rack and some turrets, but I'd rather just ask first: what guns are hooked up to the ship? My obsessive love for detail is making me take forever on the kitchen, and no further than that sweatdrop I'm just going to abandon detail until I get the outline of it done, so... [[ I also had to re-start because when I first built the ship's bottom layout it was all one object, and not multiple, so one simple mistake (or just plain lack of planning) on the stairs ruined the whole thing emo I r's one saddened nerd ]] Oh, so here's the plans: Layout: this contains the bottom floor on the bottom, the second floor in the middle and the mid-level layout on the top. There's also a key on the bottom-left to help me. Side view: This is what the ship's rooms look like from the side, to help with height proportions. Walls are not non-existant, so I had to take their thickness (10cm) into account. As you may have noticed, there's three rooms and two levels... I'm sorry, but the rooms are 3m cubes (2.9m after wall thickness), which is plenty room to hold 2-3 people each (just saying), so we could just pretend there's more rooms, or bunk up (:draws the short straw: aww, hell. Not Kelly, please, I demand another room! xd ) because there were not bath rooms... and there is talk of showers, so... Bathrooms needed to be in there. I hope you're satisfied with it sweatdrop took me three days of doing nothing in Econ class razz j/k, but it takes some serious proportional thinking and geometry to get some of these things down sweatdrop can't wait 'til I get the catwalk filled with hexalated holes... :sigh:

I know... I hope Rex can be friends with Kelly... without him touching the HYL-ERC... if I haven't posted it's meaning, it's from a sci-fi book and stands for "High Yield Laser - Extended Range Cannon" It works alot like the Spartan Laser off of Halo 3, charging up and then firing. Kelly can have it if he promises to use it outside of the ship >.> I was thinking of integrating it into the storyline by attaching it to the hull as a turret... because I heard that the ship has none... *cough* back to Wings3D...

Behold! Ira's wonderful kitchen, located at the front of the ship!... quiet, this is taking more time than expected... the other rooms should go faster, though, as they're... less aesthetically pleasing and un-detailed biggrin

Island should actually be the table, and where the tables are should be chairs (lounge, and that is where you strap in when the ship takes off.)
Fes's design is what we have always been going by, but it has changed, and she has never updated it for those changes, like the middle level. Ship should be huge, not small at all. That is how we have been playing it, and I really think that is how it should be. Pivital thrusters are on the wings like in Fes's desing and are like that of a firefly, then there is of course the stationary ones on the a** off to the side where the engline room is located. I'm pretty sure those two don't move.
Also, why must everyone pick on my Kelly so? Is he such a bad guy?... Actually after his current pissy mood... Oh, no bunking up. If you are going to work with actual measurements make the ship longer so there can be seven rooms on the top in the crew hall (captain's room is bigger and at the end of the hall (door would be in the middle where the back all is right now)) and bathrooms could be at the front end of the hallway for each of the two levels. Passenger hallway doesn't have to be as long so there doesn't have to be as many rooms. Four is good enough for me.
Other than that I am liking the design. I am just really picky on how the ship looks and feels seeing as we have been playing it this way for so many pages. Had it only been about twenty pages I wouldn't mind as much, but it has been over 100, so I am a little more particular with how my ship is set up.

Hmm, I could.... I could make the rooms only 2m tall and remove the bathrooms on the third floor and replace them with stairs. Maybe a catwalk going from the first platform to around the cargo room to the mid floor, and the passenger rooms only being 2m tall, also. I could use the meter of space between the engine room and the would-be passenger rooms to make the total amount of space (y-axis) height-wise would be 2.5m tall, which is about 8 1/8 feet tall, plenty of living room, but I tried to keep the space there, or the engine would make the passenger rooms noisy. I could also stick the bathrooms on the mid-level, as I would have removed them from the top, so... that could work. It'd just require some extra math.
So on the kitchen, just for complete understanding: The thing between the pantries is an island, with a stove sweatdrop (I tried) so the table+chair set up... that's actually what would you would see as corner-seats in restaurants? (you know, where they line up the wall and there's tables in front of them? If so, then the glass paneling wouldn't be all-too useful, I thought it'd provide a nice little view for the opposite-facing crewmates. However it gets done, I'm going to put the basic shapes of the rooms down next, picking one and detailing the crap out of it when I'm done. biggrin

I always thought the kitchen on Ira looked like the one on Serenity, but with the lounge area in the far front and not off to the side like it is in the Firefly model.

sweatdrop Umm... eh-heh... I've never seen what the kitchen looks like... I've only seen a few episodes of Firefly when it was on Fox... the one with the Reavers, I've seen that one. That one was beautiful, the Reavers had mono-directional engines and they just out-maneuvered them xd

On a completely different note (sorry... I have an attention span of a fish ninja ), I tekteked Pavan (as you can see, she's on the darker scale of olive skinned): I think she might have picked up a handkercheif/bandana at some point. I got the idea of her having something tied around her neck from watching Stagecoach. I figured that it would make sense considering a lot of the worlds they probably visit would be outposts and such (like the West... an easy comparison to draw) and a handkercheif would be smart for duststorms and such. Plus it adds a little bit of color.

ninja Also... just wanted to say... just because Pavan doesn't like a character doesn't mean I don't like the person RPing them (or RPed them). It's just in character, as you can see... Pavan's kind of a mean or rather set in certain beliefs. xp
