Marcus agreed, but jerked his head towards the kitchen. "I do imagine they're whispering about us in the dining hall," he said, because he was too unsure to be introspective about Terryn's remark, and he didn't want to press her for anything at the moment.

"Let them." Terryn's tone of voice was rather flat, as if she really didn't care by now what her father thought about her and Marcus. She suddenly didn't feel much like lying, though it may have been the tiredness talking.

Marcus swallowed. "You'd prefer to stay here, then?" he asked, to make sure and also because he felt unusually hopeful for a reason that he was unable (or unwilling) to identify.

Terryn nodded slowly, subconsciously. "I could eat, but at the moment I am not sure that I wish to be with the others right now." She looked pointedly away from him, her chest feeling a little tight as she stared at the flower in her lap.

Marcus stepped a little closer to her, his face curious and carefully watching Terryn's expression. "At the moment, I'd rather be with you. Seeing as you're not feeling quite well," added Marcus, stepping still closer and feeling his mouth go dry.

Terryn gulped, feeling her body go a little tingly. She felt uncomfortable and shifted in her seat a little. "Come...come sit down." She glanced up at him for only a moment, because doing so made her feel nervous for some reason.

Marcus complied, wondering if Terryn would faint or be ill from something. She did not at all look as carefree, as healthy, as blatantly aloof from the world and it's expectations, as before.

Terryn immediately regretted asking him to sit, because she felt very tense as he did so. She was not at all enjoying this feeling. "Marcus...be honest...do you feel as though something has, well, changed, in the course of this whole planning?"

Marcus suddenly felt as though he were Atlas, with the world on his shoulders. "Well...yes. Certainly, some things have changed." He chanced a look at Terryn, who looked tremendously nervous. Feeling encouraged by this, he continued, "Amongst them my...attitude towards...well, you." Oh, Lord, how he struggled with the last word.

"Really now?" This somehow made her feel a little more like her old self, and she allowed herself to straighten slightly in her seat and look at him. "Care to elaborate?"

Marcus was enormously relieved by this, and decided then that he would not dilly-dally any longer. "You are impossible," he told Terryn, before leaning forward and occupying what little space had been between them.

"Marcus, what-" Terryn's words were cut off, her lips silenced as Marcus pressed his own mouth against them. She went through a wide range of emotions in the span of about ten seconds, starting from shock, then going in turn to anger, confusion, pensivity, pleasure, and finally nothing at all. She had never been kissed quite like that. Alright, she had never been kissed, and the whole experience was rather unnerving, as it was obvious that Marcus knew exactly what he was doing.

Marcus pulled away a few moments later, purely because Terryn was completely non responsive. "Do you suppose that was elaborate enough, or should I continue?" he asked, a smirk on his face.

Terryn blinked for a few seconds, touching her lips lightly with her fingertips as though unsure of what had just happened. She finally glanced back at him, her eyes starting to revert back to their normal state and a sly grin on her face. "That will be fine. I daresay that you believe me to be your drooling lap dog now? Perhaps you think I have fallen under your spell of seduction so you can take advantage of me and then just leave me once you are bored of my presence? You know, the way I am sure you have done to so many before me."

Marcus frowned. "If you were going to respond like that, you shouldn't have invited it," he told her, less disappointed than nettled. He stood now, not particularly wanting to argue or have to defend himself at the moment.
