New street, new chances at getting better treats! Though she wasn't quite delving into her sweets just yet, she was still excited about getting more. That way there would be more to share and better chances of her getting to keep her favorites. The scream candy bar would be so much fun to try out later on. She had heard from another demon in class that they made you yell something every time you took a bite.
With an excited wiggle she scampered up the sidewalk to the first house on the block. Instead of having to knock, there was a bowl of candies sitting on the porch. "Oh!" she said, half disappointed. She couldn't say thank you if they weren't out there. Ah well, she would survive. Plunging her hand into the mystery bowl, she pulled out a bag of chocoskulls. "Yess! Now there's more to share and I could even keep one if I wanted!" she exclaimed. Into the pail it went and she scurried down the sidewalk to see more houses.

"I'd like to figure out what to name her, is all," Teo said. "And it's kind of useful to know if it's a girl, a boy, or an androgyne." He shrugged, but the adult was beckoning him forward for the second box. He patted the fox on the head again and reached in. This time, Teo tried to think hard about what it was. This one was wet rather than slimy. It was also thinner and courser at the same time. It had a rather rough texture, but it was also a familiar one He was fairly certain he knew what it was. He could narrow it down, with some confidence, to one of two things. The question then was, which of the two things was it?
He picked up a strand of it and squeezed it between his claws. It resisted the pressure. Well, that eliminated one of the things, leaving only... "It's shredded carrot," he said. "We had it just yesterday on our coleslaw at dinner."
"Right you are!" the adult said. There was a sound of the box opening, and he heard Cal say from above him, "That's what it is, alright!" Teo smiled. It was nice to meet an adult who figured out that he was blind without making a fuss about it. He did wonder why she found it so important to keep opening the box, but he was sure there was a logical reason for it.
"For that you get a bag of candy," the adult said. "Caramel, chocolate, or candy corn?"
Teo thought about it. "Caramel," he said firmly.
The grown-up dropped a bag into his bucket.
Eidil caught what the candy looked like and couldn't suppress a giggle. The Chimera looked at her, bemused. Eidil's giggle morphed into a full-on laugh. "It's--they're...oh, Teo! They're caramel eyeballs!"
The Chimera suddenly looked embarrassed. "It's, uh, what we have, I'm sorry if, I didn't mean--"
Eidil shook her head. "Oh, no, it's not that! It's just...Teo, take off your shades."
The temperature suddenly seemed to go down. Eidil looked up at Cal. Al four of her friend's eyes were totally flat. The smile petrified on Eidil's face. She shriveled under that glare. Oops. She'd gone too far. Hadn't she. Cal was, um...sensitive...about her baby brother's more obvious mutation...
But Teo, it seemed, was not. He looked up--well, pointed his face at--the adult and took off his glasses. To the Chimera's credit, her flinch was tiny. She nodded at the freshling, then made a face as she realized how ridiculous the gesture was. "Yes...I see. Rather ironic. Well, the important thing is, they're chocolate with a caramel center. One of my personal favorites, as it is."
"I like caramel, too," Teo said, and his happy voice seemed to break the ice between Cal and Eidil. He put his glasses back on and stepped aside for Eidil's turn at the box. Before she went forward though, Eidil leaned over to Cal.
"I'm sorry," she whispered in her friend's ear. Cal flinched away from her. "I really am!" Eidil said. "I just, um...I wasn't thinking. I just...I thought it was funny."
Cal sighed. "Kind of, yeah. But Teo wears those glasses for a reason, Eidil, and it's not a fashion reason. They're to prevent people from freaking out. He's not supposed to take them off whenever it's entertaining to. He's a kid, Eidil. He's not a circus freak."
Eidil swallowed, hard. "Point taken," she murmured. She stepped forward to reach her hand into the third box. This one was easy. "It's peeled grapes," she said.
The Chimera opened the box to reveal them. "Yep! That's the easiest, admittedly." Even she seemed subdued by the argument that had just broken out.
The rest of the kids finally filed up to the scary garage, which gave Xeno a quiet moment with his father. He was starting to get tired in spite of himself--it had been a long day putting together costumes, carving pumpkins with their landlord and landlady, putting up decorations. Tomorrow was still the weekend, though. He wondered what Jurvik--his dad--had planned.
It struck Xeno once again how odd it was. He'd first met Jurvik last year when he started volunteering at the orphanage. They'd bonded over a mutal love for performance, and they'd become fast friends since then. Never in his wildest dreams--well, actually, yeah, he had daydreamed quite a lot of this happening. Of his best friend promising to take him away from this place, give him a new home, raise him, love him, cherish him. But he'd thought it was just a daydream. And now? Now it was a reality. His friend was now his...his dad. But it was still a little weird...to have someone you thought of as a friend suddenly be your father. But as he hugged Jurvik's waist and looked up at his warm face, he knew that his father cared about him--as his son.
"Getting tired?" the Geist asked.
Xeno shrugged. "Let's call it quits when the other kids do," he said.
Jurvik smiled. "That sounds like a plan."
Batholith tried to remember what he used to do on Haunted Hallows. Tell scary stories? Yeah, more or less. He hadn't gotten to tell any yet this year. He remembered one that Tracy had told them a long, long time ago, about an evil parrot and a garbage disposal. That one probably wasn't very appropriate to tell anyone here. It was too...well, gory would be one word for it. That was the weird thing about the Academy--it was a special place, almost a sacred one. Bath didn't want to tarnish it, even if he still felt like his entire presence was one big rust stain on an otherwise commendable institution.
This place was a haven from the real world, and he didn't want to sully it with his infusion of that dreadful place. He wanted it to remain...pure. Clean. Peaceful. A story like that would only breach that peace, make a little crack in it that would allow it to be corrupted. He sighed and transferred a bag of candy corn into Foras's bucket. This place was too good for him.
Although his cat seemed to disagree.
...Had he just thought of it as his cat? Oh man! He was screwed!
Odessa smiled brightly when she noticed that Kara had finally made it to the event. She waved her over, "Hey! Grab a bucket and join in. It shouldn't be too late to get a few goodies still." She motioned toward a stall where she had just received a cute little bracelet. "You should pick one out too!"
Kiessi made they're way toward another booth that he spied some more bat plushies at, they were determined to get all of the different ones if they could manage! "Could I get that one?" They asked, pointing toward a brown little bat. The attendant just smiled as they pulled the plushie down and handed it over. Kiessi blinked for a moment, certain that one of the bats on the other hanger had just disappeared.. strange!
It had been a rather long evening, so long that she wasn't sure she'd be able to meet Odessa like they had planned, but somehow she was able to get away from her studies. She had jogged her way to the fairground and was relatively out of breath when Odessa flagged her down. "Oh, hey! Sorry it took so long." She smiled and nodded to the stall that Odessa indicated and picked herself up a similar bracelet, though it was colored green. "Well, look at that, seems they match!"
Anara was trying her best to be relatively unseen. It wasn't that she disliked Halloween, but the crowds did much to deter her from Trick or Treating, so convincing herself to finally make her way to one of the booths took longer than she would have liked to admit. "Trick... or Treat.." Her quiet voice came from her mouth as her ears pricked forward, but none of the attendants seemed to notice she was there. She frowned and tried to wave her pail in the air to get their attention, trying to speak a little louder, "Trick or Treat..."
She stood there for a little while feeling rather dumb, when a couple other freshlings appeared and instantly got the attendant's attention. Her brow furrowed and she felt completely frustrated as a couple older kids more or less pushed her out of line. She figured they hadn't seen her either. She had had enough! Moving from the crowd she decided to slip behind the booth and help herself to one of the plushies and some cotton candy, of course.
Seeing her friend with the fox was starting to make Hailey a little bit jealous and curious, too. She inched closer to her friend, giving a small squeak when the fox looked over at her. Giving a tug to his shirt, wanting him to go back to trick-or-treating with her.
Malachi smiled happily as the fox ate the raisins from his hand. He gave a glance over his shoulder at Hailey as she tried pulling him away, pouting at her for a moment. He gave the fox a few more moments before placing the rest of what was in his hand on the ground, stepping away as his friend tugged him along. ... of course not without dropping a small trail of raisins behind him as they walked.
Hailey didn't see the fox following after them when she thought she got away with her buddy to the next stop. She snitched up a lollipop for herself and him, beaming happily to him.
Malachi peeked over his shoulder every couple steps, smiling to himself at his new animal stalker. When he looked back at Hailey, Malachi gave a small bounce as he happily accepted the lolli from her.

Come on, Come on Baum” Hermes called out. They were so late and all the good prizes where probably gone. He shouldn’t have waited for his friend but it was silly to go to a festival alone right? Baum had already gone out and gotten lost in a haunted house. How cool was that? Well he would imagine how cool it was, baum refused to say what went on in there although Hermes did notice he seemed to be constantly looking over and checking on Kadali more.
“the festival isn’t going anywhere Hermes. You are going to run into someone.” Baum called out. He should be in bed, he should be hanging out with Kadali. He wasn’t even sure how the normally quite imp had dragged him out to the festival of all things. His little wings beat in frustration as he tried to keep up with his friend. So distracted the two didn’t notice the treats getting dropped into their pails.
Cal shivered as Eidil leaned in close. The closeness of that beautiful, if ditzy and often disrespectful, girl almost made the Fallen swoon. No! Keep it together, Cal! She'd never fall for the likes of you...especially not after you just yelled at her! The atmosphere between the four of them had gone cold, and Cal couldn't help but feel responsible. Even the adult was upset by this.
Cal had to fix this. She stepped forward. "I think it's my turn," she said.
"Alright," the Chimera said. She held out another box, which Cal put her hand in.
The substance in there was wet and squishy and round. Were all of the materials going to be wet and squishy? Well, the last few had all been food. If you counted bait as food, which it arguably was. But carrots? Grapes? She knew what this had to be then. "They're peas," she said. She looked at the rows of prizes. Which would she like?
"Nope."
Cal blinked with first one set of eyes, then the other, staring at the Chimera. The bounce had gone back into the grin of the adult. "What?!" Cal said.
"Nope. Not peas. Good try, though. I believe it's the crow's turn to guess?"
Blushing, Cal stepped backwards, only to hear something scream as she hit it. She turned around to see what her foot had hit, but she saw nothing. Something screamed in her ear. On instinct, she swatted it with the back of her hand. It was another pumpka! She quickly reached out and grabbed it. "Gotcha!"
It screamed again. Cal rolled her eyes and blew the candle inside out. The black gourd went silent.
Trick-or-treating was fun to do when you were a little kid, but when you were a junior, you were just too old for it. It was an idea that Anchriesel had been considering for quite some time now, but he wasn't sure if he entirely believed it. Because it was still nice to get out and to look at all of the decorations. And sometimes there was nice music! And, y'know, stuff to look at? Stuff like that. Chries kind of felt like he should have been back at the dorm watching a scary movie with a cup of noodles or something, but in the end the temptation of the fair had won out.
That having been said...yeah, being a junior at these things sucked. So he'd gone out in the Enoch common room one day and asked the first freshling he met to go trick-or-treating with him.
He was sort of starting to regret choosing this one...
Anchriesel picked a yellow bucket, his favorite color, from the booth at the front, and pushed on into the fair with the freshling at his side. People seemed to think he was out to trick or treat--yeah, probably shouldn't have grabbed that bucket. But he did like that cute paper ghostie... "Thanks!" he murmured to the adult who gave it to him. "Happy Haunted Hallows."
Haunted Hallows! Best! Holiday! EVER! Perigor grinned at the Imp junior who had asked to take him out today. That was so nice of him! Most people avoided Perigor because he was so crazy. But this one had actually sought him out anyway! Well, okay, he'd probably just asked Peri because he was the first freshling he saw, but whatever. Peri was going to enjoy this holiday. It wasn't every day you got to dress up as a monster and terrorize people. He ran up to the first adult he saw. "Trick or treat!"
"Oo, scary!" the adult said. "What are you dressed as?"
Peri lifted up his fake claws and bared his fake fangs. "MYSELF!" he cackled.
The adult lifted their eyebrows. "So I see..." They gave Peri the usual look that strangers gave him--slight worry--and handed him a couple of treats in his orange bucket.
"Haunted Hallows be with you! Raawr!!" Peri turned to walk away when something bumped into his ankle and screamed. He looked down to see a pumpka skimming across the ground, making circles around him. He lifted up one foot and rested it on the pumpka. It screamed again. Peri bent down and blew out the candle. He hoisted the pumpka on his shoulder and carried it along. "I know how to deal with pumpkas," he said to the sleeping gourd. "I've got four already back in the dorms. The caretaker hates me. Course, everyone does. But I think you'll like my other pumpkas. Come on, Anchriesel, hurry up! You're the slowest frikking junior ever!!"
After giving the pink plushie to Emma, Laurel was more than to receive a plushie of his own. Not that he really needed another one. However, the fact that he owned the green and purple plushie now and Emma had the pink one made him laugh. They were a pair, weren't they?
"Where do you want to go now?" He asked, nibbling on the edge of a swirl pop.
Emma smile broadly as Laurel picked out a plushie that seemed to match them as a pair and mimicked him by nibbling on one of they're swirl pops. However, as the question was raised, the lollipop was lowered and the demon found themselves scanning the area around them for a new destination.
"How about we go play that mystery prize game?" They suggested.

Sascha found himself staring at the Nezubat on his daughter's shoulder. It had swooped down from seemingly nowhere and dropped a box of raisins on her head! Hopefully she wouldn't get angry with it! Her mood was just starting to improve, too!
Dahlia grimaced at the box of raisins at her feet and flashed a look to the pink Nezubat happily perched on her shoulder. Okay, okay, maybe it just wanted to be friendly and thought the raisins would be a good idea. She took a breath and let it out.
"Hi Mr. Batty, nice to meet you..." She said.
The bat scarcely blinked.

After winning her prize of chocolate skulls, Sequoia thought that it might be fun to try the bean bag game again. She asked the person running it for another trio of bean bags and tossed them harder than she had before, resulting in a full swing of losses! The game runner still gave her a prize, though, which was a handful of gross candy.
"Ugh, I don't get why people think this is good candy." She grumbled, plopping it into her bucket. "... Maybe another game will have better options."

It wasn't long there after Glitch's rookie started complaining about the weight of the tricks and treats they were carrying.
Glitch: " Hold on rookie, this is good news. The more you're carrying the better prime targets we'll be. I know exactly what you're going through. All rookies go through the same thing, and all officers and detectives were once rookies too yunno. You get pegged with the hard jobs, and often have to walk the beat, but this is just part of the job. Now stay quiet, if they get the catch that we aint just you're normal freshlings dressing up and collecting candy for fun their gonna high tail it outa here."
Despite saying that though Glitch was talking more about being a cop than the rookie ever muttered. In fact he talked so much about it that they were already and the next house with a hand in the candy bowl too preoccupied with giving the rookie a lecture to realize they pulled one nasty trick.

Sivar had set his mind on not going trick or treating this year. He was too old for it and didn't really care for the event all together. Not to mention its embarrassing to dress up in a stupid costume at his age.
It's not the overall spirit of the holiday that he disliked, in fact he had a good collection of mystery and horror novels on his shelf. It was the fact that he could see through everyone's facade so quickly. There were not any true monster to defeat or run away from, or any real mysteries to solve. Nothing was truely eerie because everyone tries to be for tonight and thus making the abnormal normal.
No, it was time to leave this foolish side of his childhood behind. At least that was what he intended until some kid from his class heard he wasn't going out for Halloween that night and took it upon themselves to drag him along. At first he just shoved them off not giving them the time of day, but they were persistent and by the time the evening rolled around Sivar was so annoyed by this point he half heartedly agreed.
Sour about the entire ordeel Sivar dragged his feet along the entire way, but that didn't seem to bother his newfound friend.

New 'treats' tucked into his pail, Ares looked around for a new game to play. Now that he seemed to be on a winning streak, it was much more fun to participate. A game of bean bag toss caught his eye and he watched a few people play before getting himself in the mix. A few well-aimed throws and he'd earned a purple and black bracelet. It was a nice bracelet, not his favorite color, but still pretty good. This time when he left the booth, nobody came chasing after him to ply him with plushies or nastee gum, much to his pleasure.

Another house down the same street was giving away giant cones of cotton candy. Pepper watched with wide eyes as the man made the candy right in front of her! He poured in sugar and then she watched as it somehow became the delicious fluffy tendrils of a lilac cotton candy. "Here you are little lady, a lovely candy to match a lovely costume," he told her, handing the cone over with a flourish and a disarming grin.
Pepper gave him the brightest smile she could, accepting the treat. This was one that she would have to eat all on her own! The older fallen had given it to her especially. At a much slower pace she made her way down to the sidewalk where the caretaker was waiting before slowly heading towards the next house.
