"Ah.... You're no fu - " "If she decides to set your eyes on fire for seeing anything you shouldn't be, I'm not stopping her," comes the interruption buried between book spines. Well, at least she had him for a good deterrent, even if she herself could very well be a big one. "Oh, fine. I'll leave you two in peace when it gets to the nice parts, but you've got to tell me all about it after!" "No, not even that." "Shot down again!" And the doll plants his face on the floor in displeasure. "Noooooo, you're shooting everything I bring up..." Who could blame them really, with those kinds of ideas?

The initial unease that was there at looking at her library assistants had not been forgotten in the whirls of flash freezing. And their little voyeur was certainly not going to let it go either! "Oh hey! It looks like you!" cried the doll excitedly, pointing to the assistant while laughing at a very, very unsettled Erhard. But he made no move to enforce silence this time, just warily staring at the shelves instead. "I'll.... I'll look for the books myself. Any titles that come to mind? It should not take long to search for it." With multiple limbs and prior knowledge of how many books, yes, but with only a pair of arms and unwillingness to make more? So sorely underestimated.

The doll however, seemed to be more attentive of his limits, and took to climbing up onto the table, disproportionate eyes locked onto the book with a mischievous sparkle. "Then I'll help with this part of the research then," he chirped, reaching for her book, ignoring the cringes the medic was making.

The eye that ended up fixed upon him naturally filled with a twisted sort of admiration as it grasped at the fleeting sight of him between the books. "Oh, that's a good idea." Her face ended up pressed into one of her hands, ignoring her scrapes from earlier as she addressed him kindly. "You always think of the best things~" The same wasn't true for the doll, as she questioned him with mostly just petulance. "Why are you so interested anyway?" Her expression only became more sullen as she thought over it more. "You have definitely, definitely seen more than enough of me. I know that much." Yep, she was still angry about all of that, arms crossed and looking all the more irritated by it the more she thought about it.

Which ultimately ended up expressed through a light backhand to that doll's head thanks to his undue and inappropriate excitement. "Don't be so crass." She'd decided that the subject couldn't have been all that comfortable of one, being that she'd seen very little of that side of him. "Having tentacles isn't so bad. But..." Not much point in even a very cautious effort to console him if he couldn't even be bothered to be defensive about it. "Nevermind all that." With her free palm she waved off her servant, who in turn made a disturbing little trill of excitement before disappearing in an instant. Useless in purpose, useless in intention, useless in results. Being unable to make his problems disappear as easily as that ate away at her determination like nothing else. But even if staying positive was futile, she'd try anyway. "But, what are you interested in? Manuals? Lore? There's just... there's so many." The insurmountable problem she was thinking over certainly didn't help when taking into consideration her currently fluctuating level of mental clarity, for sure.

Once she'd given a suspicious look to the doll she'd just smacked, she relented to indulging him. For that moment, anyway. "I suppose I could show you, being that I'm pictured as fully clothed and everything." Seemed she'd be stuck on that point for quite some time. She opened the book, showing the doll just what she'd wanted to show Erhard. The figure of the piece was her usual grey-skinned red-eyed self, only with much longer hair. The usual anatomy was visible too, in the form of two sets of undersized wings, a spaded and pierced tail, and the small black cat ears that oddly fit in to her overall look. The old western-styled clothing wasn't so remarkable as the oversized red scythe she wielded. And though the work was missing fine detail due to its nature and age, the expression captured came across quite clearly. Malevolent satisfaction. "Pictured in front of a desolate wasteland, splattered in the blood of my enemies and with all of my best features detailed... what else could a girl want, really~" Did it matter that whoever had captured her image likely hadn't done so out of admiration? "Surely they did me quite the favor with this image, artist who's likely been long since dead in one way or another." Even those who chose to pursue the wildness of normal nature often met young deaths through violent means. But those who sought what was outside of that spectrum, even more so. She understood that very well. With a shrug she drew his attention to the text on the opposite page. "The description is pretty standard, but what can you do~"

Quote:
Irazoki Amarante, the grey hornet. Progeny of Erlea the White. Subject's specialty lies in dismemberment, as indicated by stated moniker. Recruited by the infernal armies of the west, subject ranks highly due to a high level of defense and violent tendencies. Weakness present through depth perception is limited and varies. Communicative with humans but still to be considered hostile. Summoning record missing but fatality is to be expected likely.

With a disappointed sigh she wasn't shy in expressing her disappointment. "How analytical, right? Hardly a word about my natural good looks or charming demeanor~" Even if it were in all aspects a hunter's guide that didn't mean that it couldn't be a little complimentary, right?

Katoonk! With such a big head, it's no wonder a simple slap makes him land on his face so easily! "Ooooh..... See! Such a bad example you make, even your girlfriend's whacking me now!" So easily summoning the mock tears and flailing about like a kid with a tantrum! And of course, largely ignored again. Mostly. "You brought that one on yourself, Professor," comes the cold remark in lieu of the lack of eye contact.

Dare he take up her suggestion on manuals? If these kinds of entities came with manuals, then his job would be so much easier! But there was a catch. There was always a catch. The wary glance at the folder could remind him that said catch would hardly be a small one, regardless of how small the reward in return was. These entities and their cruelly non-understandable ways. Not that he did not trust Amarante to not give him the dangerous books, but more of the info he would require would most likely be in said dangerous books anyway. Opening those under her eye might just lead to more er... awkward moments. Yeah, thinking of the awkward stuff more than the fates worse than death. Such callousness, certainly odd for someone like him! "The lore then, it might help discern more as to what makes them tick." And how to go about reversing and preventing said effects of fates worse than death. But he certainly was unable to predict what kind of entity would decide to ruin his day next, so! "Anyone would do. As long as it's something not already in the folder." Aside from the next obvious question as to what was already in said folder, but well.

"Now since when did you ever take the long way around?" piped up the insufferable doll. "Give him the manuals, Amarante. It'll waste less time and might provide more information than just stories and legends." Oh, so he could be useful too, then. Or incredibly ignorant for someone who was privy to nearly all of his private thoughts.

But back to studying! Or the still-lack-of. "What's that supposed to mean?" huffed the doll, the same time the medic looked up with the same question written all over his face. Aww, simple minds do think alike! Even if one is confused about it and another is perfectly capable of understanding why... supposedly. But! Totally not going to pass up a chance to pore over reading material! Now, let's see... Hey, what's with that gobsmacked look of his? "Oh wow, she's even scarier on paper! Why'd you have to go pi -" "I'm sure she won't object to showing proof of that violent side just for you." "Are you serious.... Or would she have cut the artist's head off too if they didn't do a good enough job?" "... She's free to take yours if you annoy her enough with those kinds of words." And here he comes, to save her from having to deal with this dolly's motorized tongue, probably. But still very embarrassed about sitting too close to her it seems, or too mindful of sticking his head too far out to see the book. At least the annoyance was looking too dejected to continue with his commentary, leaving the both of them in peace... for now.

But then he ended up doing something else other than making use of that precious quiet time talking! Instead he starts copying the text into his notebook quietly, glancing at the original text now and then to make sure nothing was missed out. If information could be anything but missed out in that horrible handwriting of his. Something stuck out as odd though.

".... I'm not sure if the author was pressed to add an entry due to bias, but come to think of it, you aren't exactly as cruelly violent as the text would imply, are you?" Sure, not even knowing that it was because of his own request, that was just like him alright. "Wasn't the blood a pain to wash off afterwards too?" Oh, come on! Even the insignificant details?

Erhard was right, of course, but naturally she couldn't help adding on to the doll's grief. "Heh. More a matter of attempting to cut your words short when combating them with other words doesn't work." With a shrug she was unwilling to accept responsibility for any freeness her hands might find when disciplining someone who spoke a little too freely. "Still doesn't seem to work. But it's certainly fun enough~" Wasn't as if that guy was actually hurt by it. And even if he were, would it really have mattered to her?

Their little disagreement over reading materials mostly just amused her. "What shall it be then, dearest? What you'd like or what he suggests?" She smoothed an index finger down her face thoughtfully, rambling more helpfully than perhaps she'd realize. "Fairly dubious either way, being written by humans and all. But still perhaps information you haven't seen previously~?" Maybe others would see her as a 'traitor.' A demon that betrays, how expected! Or. A demon that aids other demons, how expected! The view of others of her 'type' was more hypocritical and cynical than said type itself. There was definitely some element of chagrin involved with having to rely on such fickle creatures for her own written history. "What use does an ever-living creature have for texts when it comes to passing on information, after all." Merely repeating the words she'd been told herself many a time, hollow tone and all.

Only to be encouraged by the simple mindedness of the doll. "Good, you've forgotten," she chirped, not caring in the least that her unclothed form hadn't been found to be memorable. "Just as well~ For it's a sight that you, the doll, shall never see again." She was likely trying her luck, with that. But there were few moments in life where it felt so good to have been forgotten that easily. Even if he remembered in the next moment. All the better to enjoy that moment while she still could!

But even that enjoyment was brief, as with one quick movement she'd found her feet and had that doll held up by the arm with obvious intention to do further damage. To say she was unhappy with what he'd almost said would be a grave understatement. Had he joints, what she'd done would've dislocated his shoulder at the very least. And would it have really mattered if she tore off his arm, being that she had to clean up later anyway? But eventually she relented, the red swirling in her very focused eye fading away as she unceremoniously let him fall back to the floor. Her weary self returned, and with a step or two backwards she was seated again. "Perhaps the lot of it was no more than the subject of a joke for the likes for you. As it should be, I suppose." Discouragement and defeat echoed in those words, as she was well aware that she was likely expected to be ashamed of some if not all of her resulting actions regarding the issue in question. Visibly shaken she reached out and latched on to Erhard's arm, her hand at his elbow. "But he means the world to me, so." Where one might have expected fury, there was only anxiety when she looked back at the doll. "Curtailing your words when it comes to that matter might not be the worst idea." Which of course lessened when she turned back to Erhard, leaning in a little closer as she did. "You're here with me now. That's what matters, yes?" Gentle words. Timid words. Timorous at best. Any anger could be reserved for those whom she considered as truly deserving it.

Maintaining her loose hold upon him, a bit of a smile surfaced thanks to his observation. "Mostly, that was before. Before it became tedious. Before it was tiring." With a slow tilt of her head, she relented to acknowledge the good of the matter. "It was nice to get that recognition. For a creature such as myself to acquire a special placement from the west." But the sense of betrayal couldn't be stopped from reflecting within that eye of hers. "But when ultimately it's nothing more than what everyone else has seen you as, nothing more than a tool to be used until broken... you grow weary. Your skin crawls. You want to break free of that role, at any cost." With an exasperated sigh she had to admit one truth of the matter. "A violent physicality comes naturally to me. It's what I'm meant to do." Directing her attentions to him only once again, a certain contentedness began to show. "But... I don't like being scolded by you, and I don't like making you unhappy. So, there's that." And with a light laugh she'd acknowledge his offhanded inquiry, too. "Mostly, I wouldn't. Nothing suits a barbaric soldier better than the bloodstains of one's enemies, after all." So casual about such a matter it was almost unsettling. "Worrying about the aftermath was never much of a concern. There's always someone willing to do the cleanup, either for a price or out of a sense of duty." She continued to be unbothered as she further detailed her knowledge regarding the issue. "There's a few people I can call, should we ever run into difficulties regarding that." As cool and shady as ever!

"I think I'll still want the - " "Manuals! If the lore's written by humans, then there's got to be inaccuracy in them! You know, fairytales, embellishments, the like?" Oh, two could play at that game! But how would anyone dare to embellish what was regarded as horrendous enough already was a question. But if only to relent just a little bit before this argument got too out of hand... ".... Would it trouble you a lot to bring both then, Ama?" he asked, sighing. Ever considered that the amount of books that fell under that category would easily span ten or more shelves' worth of books? And time used to cover them all could easily span upwards of decades? Such a silly little thing.

Of course the pouty doll wouldn't have that! "Why, I could always just open the book again!" he huffed. "Or review his memory for it. Oh wait, no I can't. Reviewing that is like looking at swamp water." And the insults (possibly good-natured?) pile on and on with no end in sight!

"Eeek! I'm gonna die again, I'm gonna - oh owww....." Certainly not one to be lacking in theatrics either. He sat back up, waving that sore arm around a bit. "Careful, you don't want to be turning this room into the North Pole again." Like she needed any more reminder! And like he was already trying hard not to turn into said environment-changing catalyst! "Yes...." Stop right there before the urge to be correct wins. Sure, there would always be more than just the two of them at any one place even if they were visibly alone, but eh. Being correct was not the point here. To which the dolly smiled, clapping his hands in glee. "Oh my! Is our little Erhard learning how to be sociable! How very delightful! The glare's not helping it, by the way," he added, trying not to stare at the figurative beam of icicles shooting at his forehead.

"Like him, if you ever need your clothes blood-free. Nothing else better to do with all that peroxide sitting in the cupboard nowadays, eh?" Wink wink, nudge nud - splat. Ignoring that! But calling it unsanitary was one thing, calling her out for being unsanitary about it was another... oh dear. "I'll lend you a few bottles then. If there's still any to be washed out." A thousand year-old bloodstain? Would that even wash out now?

She offered a round-eyed but rather indifferent look to the interrupting doll. "Oh, but it's all the work of humans. It'd be too easy, wouldn't it? If things like that kept records meant for the eyes of men, hnn?" Maybe the others of her kind would disagree but she saw no harm in passing along information that humans had already gathered for themselves, regardless of presentation or any degree of validity. Wasn't as if she knew the whole truths of every matter she had knowledge of, either. Seemed she wasn't entirely happy about being 'nice,' displeasure starting to show as she turned to Erhard. "He'll likely be more quiet if we appease him, yes?" There was a certain temptation to send their talkative guest on a temporary trip into one of those black books... nah. Far more trouble than it was worth, most likely. "Both types shouldn't be a problem... demons only? Something else?" He was the one she'd sought to aid, after all. Helping the doll was coincidental and inconsequential as far as she was concerned!

Not only could the doll not remember, he was thinking of something entirely different as far as she could tell! Laughing was the least she could do. "Shishishishi. Never, never, never!" What faced him next was a face full of both judging and smugness. "I'd wonder if you'd ever seen such a thing in the first place, but you are you." One might argue that his reaction to the situation in question was hardly one of a lech. But, the details he'd just so brazenly asked for! Whoever the man was that happened to be presenting himself as a doll had to be more than a little twisted.

When he was right he was right, though, regardless of what a weird little doll man he was. "But... !" She ended up quietly staring at her hand upon Erhard's arm for a while, even though it was very much herself that had put it there. "When I'm scared or upset, it just..." Curious as a kitten, again she was looking Erhard right in the face. "Being close to you puts me at ease. Is that strange?" Of course it was! Very strange. At least unlike pretty much everyone else, she wouldn't die from it. But still! Stranger still, rather than posing a question as a form of excusing her behavior, she was honestly just asking. "It's certainly apart from my original nature, but at some point I must have developed it as... some sort of coping mechanism, perhaps." Somehow she ended up feeling even smaller than she actually was over all of it. Doing that simply out of instinct was embarrassing enough. But having to admit it was worse. "I'm not... I'm not trying to force you to do anything. Though I'm sure it doesn't look the best, with how often my words and actions don't fit together well. Though logic and feeling hardly mesh together well in the first place." Not to mention, the contrast between what she found comforting and what was likely rather discomforting to him. Irony that was both hilarious and cruel. "I'd much prefer if you could tell me to stop before freezing me solid if at all possible, of course." Could he help it? She could hope, anyway. With a bit of a squeeze to that arm and an assuring smile from her, he was out of her clutches yet again.

Was this a meeting for murderers, or something? She seemed to understand it as such and wouldn't have been surprised if that were the truth of the matter. "Perhaps for some of the less delicate things. And it's so hit and miss with leather, too." Seemed that someone that had been in bloodsoaked-to-the-point-of-being-squishy clothes far too often couldn't be bothered by a few too subtle remarks. Bathing was one of her hobbies, wasn't it? The fancy bathroom could surely attest to that. But oh, he was so helpful and cute. No wonder she wanted to protect him, regardless of how little she could do or how late it was for any of that. "Millennia, that garment's been gone. Where it ended up, I care not." Some light amount of affection was present in that statement, but only for him. But why would she be wistful when she could easily be a sentimental fool like always? "I've been keeping fairly clean because of you, anyway." One moment she was admitting all sorts of sappy things to him, and the next she was being nervous over admitting that she'd changed some of her habits to try to please him. Unchanging in that ever-fluctuating emotional state of hers. Of course!

First one to give up on this study session? Muttering about 'inconsistencies' and 'inaccuracies' the sulky little doll slid over to pile himself with the rabbits. The medic could only shake his head. "There's still truth in fiction. No harm looking through those." But since one party has already relented? "Lore then. Chances are, there would be more truth hiding in those rather than blatant manuals. And might be more dangerous as well, of course." Now that they've finished arguing over the genre of book, let's get on to the subject! Oh, here's a hard question. He had to really think about it. "... Actually, we don't run into hostile demons that much anymore. Not that it won't be a possibility in the future, but it might be better to look into others first." Practicality won over protectiveness, it looked like.

Clearly he knew when he was being laughed at, but not so clearly he knew what to do about it other than laugh along. "Heh, don't blame me if I've haven't seen it before! Blame him with that denseness you know so well!" But then, Erhard did not get it either. Or at least he probably didn't, with that super-confused look flitting between the two of them. Oh well, must be just as unlucky as she thought they were!

"Of course not. I think you can use him as a blanket if you so wish. You wouldn't object, would you?" Nope, the medic's silence meant his consent then. Now if he could just warn her of impending freezes before the cold slowed his psuedo-nerves and stopped it from making it past being a thought! Like that would happen. Was way too fast. "I can try. Just... It won't be foolproof." At least she let go before the ice decided he was worth claiming yet again.

Well, she did say she was going to do her best in cleaning up, and previously on numerous occasions she had gotten reminded over and over about hygiene thanks to being around such a potent contaminant. Save the giggles for later, Professor! Or not, with him doubling over as the giggles turned into outright laughter and off he drops off the rabbit pile. "S-Sure, haha, the less delicate c-clothes, ahehaha! Like he'd know, ehahehahah!" Nope, the idiot in question certainly didn't know. Just staring at the doll's outburst in confused curiosity. Poor, poor little idiot.
PostPosted: Thu Apr 02, 2015 7:32 am

Oh no, the scary person was after the rabbits again! Most kept a short distance away, though some of the braver ones conceded to a few cautious sniffs and paw taps. The smell was familiar, but the feeling was not. Spiritual animals still retained the mannerisms of actual animals, after all. Seemed they'd be on their own in figuring it all out, as their guardian was once again blissfully distracted by her heart's desire. "That's so right~" She meant what she said, saying that, but there was no hiding that dreamy bias in her voice either. "Oh~" Wait, now they wouldn't be covering the material she'd intended? All those hilarious complications and now what they'd end up doing was uncertain too. The change left her curious, but she didn't question it. "What will it be then, Eru? Phantasms, yokai, the undead~" Quite an assortment of things she seemed to be having fun listing off. "Just naming things off of the top of my head, of course. I'm sure we can find and figure out something about most anything you'd like to learn." She'd said that before, hadn't she? Or at the least, something similar. Always so eager to assure, and always so eager in her fevered attempts to help. If not for her overspoken and at times selfish nature, it might come off as somewhat unsettling. But nah, surely she was too ridiculous and messed up far too often to come off as too disturbing. And hardly scary, too, much to her chagrin.

It almost seemed like the doll was winning, even if he seemed to have inherited the denseness from the body he inhabited. "Oh, but you have. You just won't again." She still wouldn't give up her attempts at having some sort of upper hand, though! Only to falter at the idea of the other aspect of what she was talking about. "But, him..." Naturally her own words would be what tripped her up. No going into detail about all that. No, no. It was enough that she was already thinking about it and suddenly bearing a red face as a result.

Still maintaining quite the shade of red to her face, her attempts to escape from an image that likely neither man had actually thought of was feeble at best. "It's not as if I'm some clingy girl, or anything~" Said by an individual that'd almost kissed him twice and touched him how many times since they'd arrived for the day? But it seemed she wasn't above quietly admitting that she'd enjoyed the imagery presented by the doll at least. Even if it was contained within a quiet mumble with her eye averted. "I'd... I'd like that, though." Though of course, her demeanor brightened upon returning her attention to Erhard. "Mm. There's bound to be mishaps, surely. We'll... we'll do our best, though?" One might wonder just what sort of effort was involved with the fact that she seemed to touch him a lot anyway, but a struggle with self control was still in fact exhibiting some wasn't it?

"Silk, lace, chiffon! I won't have my clothes being destroyed so easily!" Shaking a big frilly sleeve at the doll likely didn't change much of anything, but it did make her feel better. Her eye narrowed, quick to likely ineffectively pass judgment upon him yet again. "It is surely something that the likes of you have never encountered, in life or death." Whether she meant upon whatever had been his body or someone else's was unclear, but her superficial snideness was about all she could manage against someone she knew so little about in the first place. She'd take what she could get in her pointless attempts to get to him!

Uh oh. Did those kinds of things have a name? Certainly not just any mythical monster in a human's common fairy tale, but also with no explanation behind them. Or rather, did the ones directly involved with them dare ask what manner of monster they were and overstaying the few fleeting seconds they had before whatever fate they were dealt by these things? Wait, she had books on yokai? Hmm, that might prove useful, he could look up on - ah no. He would get his head handed to him. Besides, there was a stronger loyalty pulling him to the original topic.

Her retort only made him laugh harder. "Hahaha! I've encountered quite enough of - fff - pfft ehehahaheha! Quite enough of it! You know that other supposed 'job' of his, right?" He killed the laughter just enough to fix her with a cheeky grin. "And you've ff - pfftorgotten, I can review it whenever I need t - " Squish. This time be Erhard having to get up, red in the face, dump the folder on him and heap on the rabbits of extra weight. Huffing, he dropped back into his seat. Well, that was his only reference material. So no studying for now. Again.

Leave him to his laughter. Or that snickering still coming from under the folder. Whatever. ".... Don't let him give you bad ideas, Ama. I'm not warm enough to be a cozy blanket," he muttered with a sigh. Like it would stop either of them from thinking about it anyway. "But yes. We can do our best." Surely it won't matter to a demon with control over heat, anyway. A minute or two of hindered movement! And then the rest of the ten minutes hauling him off to the bath yet again. Trying was one thing, learning was certainly another.
PostPosted: Fri Apr 03, 2015 2:26 am

That doll had quite some skill at provocation. And he'd embarrassed both of them, just in different ways! Though the redheaded one not only had a flushed face but the disguising over her eye struggled to maintain itself as well, cat-eyed pupil clearly visible and the natural red beginning to show due to her fury. "That's not what I meant and you know it!" She seemed sated with Erhard's efforts to shut him up, however, aborting her attempt to do similarly and calming herself back into her seat and usual appearance rather quickly. To soon after offer an apologetically hanging head towards Erhard. "...Sorry." Though soon enough she was shooting pouty indignant looks at that doll again. She never learned. "Of course I remember. We are partners, concerning that." Concerning everything as far as she was concerned, but still she wouldn't dare actually say that.

And she was definitely unwilling to surrender her dreamy vision of being enveloped by those icy arms of his, even if it meant countering him in a way that didn't necessarily make sense. "Does cozy have to imply warm?" Well, to most people it would. But between his frigidness and Miyabi's tepidity her mind was certainly well on its way to being warped in that respect. "And blankets aren't always only for the purpose of keeping warm, you know~" Someone so protective of his own blanket should understand that!

Leaning back within her seat, with a sigh she almost seemed to admit defeat. "Well. I can't say that today has gone as I had planned." Was it so much to want to impress him in a way that might have actually ended up useful to him too? Not even in the usual stupid overstated ways but small and practical ones. Just as well. In the end her stubbornness showed up where exasperation might've been expected. "But if anyone were expecting me to be dispirited by it, they'd be quite wrong." Sure, her reactions might've ranged from exaggerated rage to outright tantrums but it hardly amounted to anything. Instead she almost seemed to be bolstered by all of it, to the point of even laughing over it. "Heh. I won't run away anymore. Why should I, when I'm finally capable of putting up any kind of fight that might be deemed as necessary?" She knew exactly what she was saying with that, sharp smile and all. There were no shortcuts on the path she'd diverted on to so long ago, and no guarantees of success either. But when it came to having any chance of successfully shouldering not only one incredible misfortune but two, she considered herself a prime candidate. It was something they had in common, wasn't it? Not necessarily thriving through hardship, but surviving. "I'm glad to do it, if it's you." Said with no special effort or particular attention paid to it. Maybe there was a trace of a tired smile there, but that was all. She wasn't even looking at him when she'd said it. Somehow, what optimism she'd managed to keep a hold on persisted despite knowing better.

He sighed, shaking his head. "It's okay. He's just.... You know." Annoying? Obnoxious? Which? Leaving that alone - hey, did she just? Oh, he was tempted to ask 'since when?' but was that really a good idea? Might as well roll along with it lest she get more ideas about where to turn up. Never mind.

"But I can't be used for disguises if you're going to be eating anything from the fridge," he counters back, frowning. Hey, that was probably only him. No one would dare peek in a fridge with a strange black lump in it that took food every now and then! "And wouldn't it be less uncomfortable to just lie in front of the cooling tubes if you want a cold type of cozy?" Nope, still didn't get it. The idiot. Think a little, please!

His response was the odd one. Picking up Patchy, specifically Patchy and dropping the wriggling fluff on her lap. "Does anything go as planned. Really." Was he... irritated? Sounded like it. But hey, was he not supposed to be used to it by now? So late in the day and not a single thing done! Ah, wait! "D-Doesn't mean it's not a day nicely spent though! Um... Just..." Didn't study. Nothing to show for today except lots of goofing off. "... Well, not like we can't get started again." This was what, third time? He wandered back to the shelf, staring blankly at the books again. This certainly was not going to be easy. A library full of books, but unable to pinpoint exactly what he wanted to get. Oh well, that was his fault. Not prepared this time, apparently.

"'Impossible,' you mean?" She'd taken it a bit further, without showing the slightest hint of remorse. There might've been a trace of delight in those words, even. No matter how hard she tried it seemed impossible to gain an upper hand against whoever was in that doll, though, and with a sigh that was a little too dramatic she bemoaned her fate of being stuck with that sort of an additional person. "How you endure it, I know not." But still no questioning why that man was there. Ever-accepting what about him that was unlikely to change, it seemed.

Her mouth hung open for a moment as she tried to process just what he'd said. What? Though having the tables turned upon her as far as strange phrasing went was unlikely to have any effect on her own tendency for odd sayings, unfortunately. "Will I be needing a disguise in the kitchen, for some reason?" Well, she'd tried to understand. Without implying he was ridiculous or nonsensical, too. And it seemed she hadn't lost her patience just yet, addressing his misdirected suggestion with a light laugh. "Heh~ It's you. The cold is comforting when it is yours." It was somewhat discomforting, to constantly be so candid. She hadn't a choice, though, if she'd wanted to be understood by him at all. "Even if that doll meant a literal blanket, I did not." Before he could ask for clarification or simply give her one of those confused stares, she went so far as making herself perfectly clear. "Someone to hold. Someone to be held by. You." No matter how many times she ended up stammering the same sort of ridiculous things it never seemed to get any easier to do it, her ears left with a feeling that they were burning and her muscles unthinkingly taut.

Surprise surfaced upon that flushed face as she was suddenly presented with a confused little rabbit. Soon enough both had accepted the situation though, rabbit settling on to her lap and girl set upon petting him. That done, she looked upon the sulky man with her usual mischief and mirth. "One might inherit heavy doubts indeed, observing our combined luck." Was it lucky or unlucky to have been drawn to someone with enough misfortune to match her own? The sound of his suddenly flustered words was enough to snap her from those gloomy thoughts. "Mm, I'm glad~ Surely the unexpected is more bearable, with you." Seemed that there was no stopping those nice sayings of hers, but affirming that time spent together was never a waste was something she considered worth every repetition. And while she hadn't the moxie to do much other than lounge about with her rabbit as he attempted to survey the shelves once again, a little encouragement wouldn't hurt. "Heh. I wonder if trying further would be of any use, but you are free to do so." Wasn't as if she thought she could cajole him into an impromptu cuddle session either, so might as well let him do as he liked.

"I suppose that's one way to put it." Close to a laugh, but no. Even if the sulky muttering below the folder plus her nonchalance should be making at least a smile, but no. "I don't. Who says I endure him?" Well, there's got to be a line of defense somewhere, right? Even if the impossible person's in an impossibly close location?

"I don't know. Do people need one if they're taking food at night?" The answer for him was yes, on account of other midnight snackers, but still! At least her meaning got through his dense head, so! "Oh! That would be more of a pillow, then. Okay." So calm about it it was strange. Hello? Did all reason just jump out the window? He knew what he was supposedly agreeing to, right? Looks like the earlier incident was not going to be the last time poor Amarante has to deal with someone being frozen.

"Heh, wouldn't a little clairvoyance come in handy oh, I don't know, just about now? Makes you wish you brought someone along, eh?" And he's back. But less laughing and more giggling away to himself. Oh well, time to start brushing off all his unnecessary comments again. "I didn't say I could bring a guest. And why would I want to bring yet another chatterbox when I already have a permanent one?" he shot back. Oh, if there were no logic books, then reasoning? Reasoning, reasoning.... He should really figure out the proper names of those things. Lament, for there was not an easy way out of picking a random book to read!

".... Never mind." Going back to the seat it is. Well, she had one book, might as well read that. Who knows, maybe they might find themselves fending off demons... "Can I borrow this book?" he asked, picking it up. "It's not entities, but it's better than taking chances."

Idly playing with the sleepy Patcchi's ears, she rambled something closer to her own personal truth than she realized. "Doesn't everyone know an impossible person such as that?" The person she had in mind for herself filled the same role that doll filled for Erhard though she had yet to figure that out. They were a terrible sort. Loud, and irritating, and... impossible. She couldn't be irritated by it all for too long, however, caught offguard by his surly response. "Oh~ Heh!" Eye bright and hand drawn to her mouth to perhaps hide a smile for whatever reason, it was clearly a surprise she was far from being displeased by. Even when directed towards herself, she couldn't help but find that sullen attitude attractive. Both his sweet and sharp sides were savored by the likes of her, after all. No need to absolutely melt over one defensive comment of his, though. Tips of her fingers pressed together thoughtfully, she explained her rationale. "I meant~ Has to be some tolerance involved, at least, whatever your reason may be." Still she wouldn't seek out what that reason might be. Seemed it would either just have to slip out sometime, between her not asking and him not telling.

With a confused tilt of her head it seemed that the idea of having to disguise herself for food was food for thought indeed. Perhaps she'd known some struggle regarding that during her long life but for the most part she'd been relatively spoiled. "Generally not... at least, I never have?" Of course she was ever-willing to entertain any strange ideas he might have, however. Though when it came to even the idea of him entertaining hers, her sudden silence was very telling. Once again her eye was filled with what filtered light made it through the carefully constructed window, though instead of the usual mischief there was clarity as she appeared to be quite dazed. And her hand met her mouth again but the result was different. It stood as a quick effort to stay collected, upon hearing words she'd sought for some time. To anyone else it probably wouldn't have amounted to much. Consenting to a sort of touch people did every day even with strangers was hardly something like a confession. But to her, it was everything. Her hand fell back to her lap as her eye lidded over heavily, fingers held in tightly as she seemed to finally reach some sort of calm. "...The only 'pillow' I'd want, in that regard."

The doll had quite the knack of showing up when Amarante was at her most vulnerable. With a silent grimace and her fingers wringing at her skirt a bit she let it go without further incident however. There were more interesting issues to attend to! "Hnn, clairvoyance? You know someone like that, Eru?" It was a question presented out of curiosity rather than disbelief, as for starters anyone that frequented that place was bound to end up with a plentiful variety of acquaintances. Nevermind just what else was lurking about in that scary hospital. Still, she didn't seem to be too bothered by any of it. "Mmm, I wouldn't mind meeting someone. If you'd wanted me to." She'd relented a little, but. "Though guests should stay an exception rather than a rule." Even if all she had to cling to was an illusion of privacy, she was quite unwilling to let go of it. No way, no chance! Even when they'd intended to be alone someone saw it fit to interrupt. Any extra efforts also seemed quite ineffective, as they'd certainly all been for naught this time.

But as long as she was in fact able to spend a mostly peaceful time with him, everything else could be reconciled as far as she was concerned. "Of course! I'd expressed my intentions to give it to you, after all." Any trace of the moodiness from before had disappeared, replaced by her usual sunny nature. "By humans for humans and terribly out of date. Hardly considered a threat, but... hardly useless when it comes to creatures that rarely die a 'natural' death, hnn?" A book that was both dated and yet still with usable information. Her clever little smile acknowledged that bit of trickiness. Anyone that would try to be angry over her giving him such information would have to deal with the conundrum that went along with her actions.

After so much excitement during what should have been a peaceful day, Amarante was starting to feel a little weak. And of course hesitated little in expressing her intentions. "Can I interest you in something to eat? Roll cake~?" She'd planned on eating all of it herself but of course she'd be willing to share it with him. Hardly a dinner but considering the sugar consumption of the two of them, maybe it'd do just as well. With an airy sort of sigh she regarded the other party in the room. Just barely. "I suppose if it's necessary, the doll can come too." No attempt was made to hide any displeasure or boredom that resulted from that reality. She'd feed him, but she certainly wouldn't be happy about it.

"He does his job. That's it." Of course, the unsaid would be obvious enough with that stare he's giving the grinning doll. "But that's what I do! Besides, you can't say that you do a better job at multitasking, can you?" Well, if his only response to that was dropping his head into his hands and groaning....

Oh boy. Yet another can of worms. "The intern I told you about? Sees things in the future, supposedly. I don't believe in that." Sure, while talking to a demon librarian, pointedly ignoring a technically dead person, and with construct rabbits surrounding them all, yeah. "And anyway, it would mean more than one person never shutting up. Don't think we could handle that much." Or should he have said, he did not think whoever that did the house's maintenance would be able to handle the ensuing mess. Nor did he want to haul in a guest uninvited, either. "It's okay. No guests without asking first. Unless.... Well," he shot the doll a look. "Unless otherwise specified. Even then there's at most two, and I certainly hope you don't have to meet both." Even the doll should know it was a bad idea, and it certainly was not a laughing matter. Good then, he managed to kill that incessant giggling.

"Does that mean you'll be sleeping here as a pillow? Heheh, I wonder! Amarante dear, you certainly wouldn't like being woken up in the middle of the night by an ambulance siren, do you?" Just the thing to kill the mood! "Though, it's true you wouldn't need air conditioning any more, and no need to flip him over if he gets too warm!" Oh well. The silence could not last forever.

This behavior would most likely be called 'grasping at straws'. But given the research subject? Maybe 'just getting started'. And then she wants roll cake? Roll cake? Was she getting something to eat just when they were finally settling down to read? The doll's eyes light up, and he looks to Erhard for a green light to get some yummy roll cake... "Actually, no thanks. I still things to eat back at the office." Did he manage to finish the bento she packed? Oh yeah, about that. He'd forgotten to bring the box to return her! Great, just great. "..... I hope it's still there." Someone might have taken it. Or someone might not have, given the whole cutesy exterior would have deterred potential food thieves. "I'll get to reading, if you don't mind."
