Demetri wished he could just disappear; escape this whole situation Jethrow had forced him into. Of course, his brother had told him 'hurry' but it was hard for him to hurry. What am I doing? I'm a wizard! I should be all good with this sort of thing! Why am I so damned nervous?! He took a breath, and calmed himself down, relaxing a little as he sent a flow of warm magic through his own blood. He looked down at Lunora, catching her eyes. "That dance wasn't just nothing," he started, all nervousness gone from his voice, now. "It made my heart beat faster than it already does around you."

Lunora watched the wizard calm himself and speak in a very serious tone. His heart? Bah what a useless thing. She glared at him suspiciously. "Best to not lie to me. Yet I can't blame you." she said, turning her back to him. "That's what you're good at." she said sharply before starting to walk away.

Demetri was holding his breath and he felt as though his lungs were burning when her gaze turned into a glare. Lie? She was accusing him of lying to her? As she began to walk away, what had started as anger burning it's way through Demetri turned into a painful feeling, one that made him run after her quickly and grab her wrist, turning her, gently, to face him. "Why do you think I'm lying?" he asked, working to keep his voice from wavering. "I'm not lying!" There was the slightest hint of imploring in the last syllable of his sentence, and he stared into her eyes, willing her to realize what he was saying was the truth. It struck him that maybe she was pretending to get angry...because she didn't care. Maybe she had her sights on someone else, someone he'd never met. Did he not even stand a single chance?

Lunora growled angrily as he implored her to explain her anger. Her accusations. She wrenched her wrist from his grasp and gave him a good slap across his face. "Don't touch me. Don't come near me. Stay away from me." she said, quickly turning and walking away. She didn't want to show her own weakness to him. He had lied to her before. His child form, his past, his innocence. All got to her heart and made her tell things she never let anyone know. And when she found out just who he really was, it was like a dagger in her bleeding heart. It still hurt. She could still feel the metaphorical dagger twisting around in her heart. Especially when he was around.

Demetri knew that he wasn't getting through when Lunora growled. He had expected her to pull away from him, but the slap across his face was more than just a slap. Her words, hurtful and bitter, dug themselves into his skin, as though they were arrows being shot repeatedly at him. As her form disappeared, Demetri could do nothing but stand there, staring with shock. The intense stinging in his cheek was nothing compared to the feeling of suffocation in his chest. He pulled in a shaky breath, but he still felt as though there was no oxygen in his body. He could feel himself turning to stone, and he wished he were really becoming nothing but a statue. That he could become a piece of stone forever and not have to feel the hole that Lunora had just created by ripping out his heart. There was a dull thumping in his ears, and slowly, the wizard turned, and he strode back into the shadows of the forest he'd hidden in earlier, disappearing into the night.

[OOC:] I sowwy... It's my fault... crying

Lunora jsut walked through the festival, shaking the wizard from her mind. But she eventually ran into someone. And it was her brother.

"Lunora? What's wrong?" he asked, placing a hand on her shoulder. "You're shaking... Come on. You need to lay down." he said softly, gently wrapping his arms around his sister and guiding her back to the castle.

Lunora just let her brother walk her back to the castle. She glanced a little to the woods where she caught the lingering of the young wizard's scent, but she looked away. It was too painful to even smell his scent or picture his face. Yet the image didn't leave her alone. His pale face sporting the bruise she'd dealt him, maybe even cuts from her claws. She couldn't remember such a time when she felt such... such guilt.

As soon as he was deep in the woods, Demetri couldn't move any further. He put a hand on a tree trunk, supporting himself with his arm and staring at the forest ground. His blood had frozen over, his heart had stopped, and air no longer passed through his lungs, or so it felt. He slowly sank to his knees and leaned his face against the tree, not even caring as his bruised and cut cheek protested against the rough bark pressing into it. Why wasn't he dead yet? He certainly felt as though he'd been cast into the depths of hell. But it wasn't a flaming inferno, no, that would be too kind. Instead, he was pushed into a void, a vacuum, devoid of everything. Closing his eyes, the wizard concentrated, felt the familiar whoosh of air streaming past him, and opened his eyes again, glad to see the familiar area surrounding him. It was an old beach that he and Jethrow had been taken to often when they were still children. He sat there in the sand, and a rain storm began, soaking him through, washing his face of the tears that were there, as well.

Jethrow caught sight of Luke and Lunora walking towards the castle, and he smiled a little, jogging to catch up with them. However, as soon as he reached them, his smile faded. "What's wrong?" he asked, noticing the way Lunora shook, and the look on Luke's face. "Where's Demetri?"

[OOC:] Battle of the brothers starts now.
PostPosted: Mon Feb 21, 2011 8:13 pm

Lunora almost physically winced at Demetri's name. Yet she hid it rather well under her trembling. She wasn't about to let Jethrow see her face and read her soul so deeply to see the guilt. The regret. The self-loathing for the way she had treated his younger brother.

Luke was currently leading his sister back though they ran into Jethrow. He asked where Demetri was. Demetri? What did he have to do with anything? Luke felt something was going on behind his back here... Is that why Jethrow distracted him while he was getting his sister some water? Hm... Yet Luke kept a calm face and sniffed the air for Jethrow. He then pointed to the woods. "I smell his scent that way. It's faint though..." he said, just before the rain started.

Jethrow watched Lunora. She didn't seem to react as he asked where Demetri was, but that just made him more suspicious. He held out a hand to stop the two and he leaned down to look at Lunora. "Whatever he did to you, I promise, as his older brother, to punish him," he said, his voice tight. He hated the idea, but clearly, Demetri had done something to the fox demon. He nodded his thanks to Luke before dashing quickly into the woods. He caught sight of his brother, and ran around to see his face, which caused him to pause. Demetri didn't look like he'd just caused a trauma for Lunora. He looked as though.... She'd broken his heart. And just before Jethrow called out, Demetri disappeared, and the rain started, soaking the wizard as he stared at the spot his brother had just been.

Lunora flinched as Jethrow leaned down to see her. She knew he should punish Demetri. It was her fault. She was the one who needed punishment. She hurt Demetri in more ways than one. But he had hurt her first. Some part of her seemed to think it was a fair trade so far.

Luke sighed and just led his sister to her room. He got her to change out of her wet clothes and eat something before leaving her to stare out at the rain from one of her windows. He built her a small fire to keep her warm before going to his own room and changing. Luke sighed deeply as he crawled into bed, just laying across the bed on top of the sheets. "This has gotten so confusing...."

Demetri stared up at the moon, glad that he couldn't feel anything anymore. The tide had come in and a particularly strong wave had rolled right over him, the salt water tending to his cuts and bruises. Unfortunately, the biggest wound inflicted by Lunora was unable to be fixed with a simple salty spray. He pulled his legs up out of the water, standing finally and staring out across the sea. It was cowardly, really, to have run away like that. But after years of being under the control of Fester, Demetri had lost touch with all his emotions except anger and thirst for revenge. It hadn't been until Lunora that he'd been able to pull himself out of that deep, deep hole. He owed his life to the fox demon, and his heart. But she didn't want him. Who would? He'd spent years plotting ways to kill Jethrow, and one of those ways had corrupted an innocent girl, ruined the life of an innocent dragon, almost successfully killed his brother, and disrupted Luke and Lunora's lives. He owed something to every single one of them. He couldn't undo the corruption he'd forced onto Anya, and he couldn't make Searan a regular dragon again. He couldn't take back the harsh wound he'd forced Anya to inflict on Jethrow, though the wizard had come out of that for the better. He couldn't give Luke and Lunora back their time spent on fixing all his evil. And he couldn't give Lunora back that little child she'd opened her heart to. Shaking his head, Demetri turned from the moon and the sea, staring out at the wasteland that lay across from it. That was what he deserved to look at.

There is much to learn in this world. To learn it, you must realize you know nothing.

Jethrow paced back and forth while there in that forest, being soaked. He knew he should figure out where his brother had gone. He should find him, demand what he'd done to Lunora... Or perhaps demand what Lunora had done to him. It was hard to imagine his brother, who had been his enemy for years, as the victim, but it was the face he'd had. A bruise on one side of his face, his eyes overflowing with heartache. Had Lunora rejected him? Jethrow ceased his pacing. Was that what had happened? Had all the wizard's efforts to play match-maker been ill-aimed? Had he set up his younger brother with false hope until he'd finally been rejected? What had Lunora found unsatisfactory? Now, Jethrow's anger was different. He looked out at the castle that he could barely see. He could tell there was a fire lit in Lunora's room. Had she simply rejected him cruelly? Slapped him and walked away? But then he thought about the way she'd been shaking, how she'd flinched as Jethrow had spoken to her. Perhaps she was just as hurt. Maybe these two were perpetually ill-fated. Always having to go through the suffering to get to any sort of happiness.

[OOC:] So.... Depressing. Not to mention... Anya and Searan aren't gonna have much better luck...

[OOC:]I'm gonna cry!!!!

No matter how Luke tried, he could not sleep. Yet he didn't want to move. He jsut wanted to lay there in his bed. He just sighed. He was so tired... He needed to sleep... Yet sleep was jsut out of his grasp. He knew if he didn't sleep, hallucinations would be next. His mind was always prone to hallucinations from lack of sleep very early. Maybe a night or two and he'd be off to the loony bin.

Lunora jsut sat at her window, having not moved since her brother had left her. Yet her mind started to drift. Drift into places it shouldn't. Places her mind hadn't visited since she was a guilt ridden child blaming herself for the world's failings. Yes, when she was a child, she thought that if she was gone, the world would bloom in a new light.

If only she was gone. Maybe.... just maybe... Demetri would come back, the brothers would get along, Anya and Searan could become closer, her brother would find someone to settle down with, and the world would finally reach perfect, eternal harmony. Harmony that did not call for the chaos in her heart or head. She was not needed here. All she did was hurt. She was.... a defective organism....

Demetri kicked at a little sprig of practically dead plant, and watched as it became dust. With a sigh, he kept walking along the dusty desert path. He was such a coward. He'd just run away. But he wondered to himself if maybe, just maybe, Lunora didn't hate him. He could come back, pretend the whole thing had never happened, and he could get along with everyone and avoid Lunora when he could. No, there was no way he could go back there. With a sigh, he looked up at the black sky. Why couldn't it just swallow him up? Why couldn't it make him cease to exist? If he didn't exist, then he couldn't feel this pain.... right?

If everything were as it seemed, life would be a dream.

Anya sat on the edge of her bed, watching the sky as sheets of rain covered the windows of the castle. She watched as lightning patterns cracked the sky in half, and almost automatically, she reached behind her and frowned, whipping around. Right, she thought to herself in realization. He has his own room, now. She turned again, watching the lightning some more before crossing her arms. She pulled her knees up to her chest and rested her chin on them, chewing her bottom lip. She missed dragon Searan, who had always been able to know how she was feeling. At times like this, when she felt homesick after seeing all the happy families from the town, he'd always sat beside her and done what she was doing, then; just stare out at the window. With a sigh, she turned around and shoved her legs under the covers, burying her head angrily into the pillow and closing her eyes, determined to sleep.

Jethrow didn't want to move until he could figure out where his brother went. But soon, he felt a hand on his shoulder. He looked over, frowning a little at Searan, who stood beside him. The dragon didn't say anything, just led the wizard back to the castle. On their way up the stairs, he told a maid to bring some hot soup for Jethrow, then took him into his study and sat him down at an arm chair. Before he left, he told Jethrow that he would look for Demetri that night, and left. The wizard sipped at his soup, not cold, but finding himself a bit hungry. He leaned back in his arm chair, feeling his age for the first time since Anya had restored him to his young self. Closing his eyes, he listened as thunder crashed over the castle's roof. With a bit of a smile, he realized that the master of the castle must be feeling the heaviness in everyone's moods.

I am but a dragon.

User Image
He wasn't sure why, but Searan knew he could find Demetri. He stepped down the steps and blinked. Slowly, his vision changed from the human vision he'd just grown accustomed to, to a different kind of vision, the kind that went with being a dragon. He could see the trails of every single person who'd been at the festival, however faintly some of them might be. There, a blazing bright red, was a clear trail, and the only one that led to the exact spot Searan had tracked Demetri to. He wasn't sure why he was doing this, but he just shook his head and continued on. However, he stopped right before he entered the woods. He looked up at the windows of the castle, catching just a glimpse of Anya right before she disappeared from view, heading to bed. Shaking himself, he followed Demetri's trail to where it overlapped with Jethrow's. There was slight residue in the air from when he'd used magic to disappear. Holding a hand out, he brushed his fingers over the dust, and gathered an image of a beach, illuminated by moonlight. Closing his eyes, Searan concentrated until he found himself standing in that very scene, but with water pouring all over him. Time to start the search,

Luke groaned deeply. He sat up weakly, shaking his head. He left his room and went down to the dining hall to get something to eat. Maybe that would settle his body and help him sleep. After this he had to check on Lunora. He hoped she was alright and not thinking of doing something stupid.

Searan could make out the still fresh imprint left behind from the wizard's long stay on the shore of the beach. Luckily, the tide hadn't come back in yet, and the trail of magic was still fresh, leading around into the desert the dragon now faced. It was already stretching past what he could see, and sighing, Searan morphed quickly into dragon form, lifting himself up on his wings and floating out over the trail. It didn't take long for him to come across Demetri, who was strolling slowly down a self-made path through the desert. For a while, Searan just floated above him, watching. By now, he should've realized that he was being followed, but Demetri was lost in his own thoughts, head bowed and hair covering his face like a veil or sheet. This was a learning experience, the human part of Searan realized at the back of his dragon mind. This was what heartache looked like. For as much as Searan admitted to disliking the wizard who'd very much complicated his life, he wouldn't say he flat out hated the man, and seeing him reduced to such a state made him feel sorry. With a sigh that was really a puff of smoke, he circled down to the ground and became human again, catching up to Demetri. The wizard barely reacted to Searan's appearance, obviously expecting someone to try and retrieve him. Finally, Searan overtook Demetri, stopping in front of the wizard, who slowed and stopped as well. "I don't know the name for it," he began, "but I do know what Lunora's face looked like when she realized you were missing. She was shaking, and she looked as though she couldn't speak." From Demetri's face, Searan decided to stop talking about Lunora. "You should realize that I don't owe you this, and that for all that I care you could stay here wandering this desert until you grow older and die," he said when there was no other reaction from Demetri. "But I came out here because of all the problems you've caused by leaving. So, like it or not, before that moon is gone, you'll be at Mesilici Castle," he said, crossing his arms and looking Demetri straight in the eye.
