wait, it was 5th grade, so actually i think i was 10... im not quite 13 yet.
there was this girl who moved to america from south korea at the end of 5th grade, and we became friends. i thought it would be cool to be able to say a few phrases to her in korean so i looked it up. korean is supposed to be one of the easiest and best structured languages in the world. i just kinda kept going from there...

I've already done a little posting here, but anyway:
Name: Dave (obviously) -- but in Chinese class, I'm called 晏达文!

Siblings: none! Although I do have a three-year-old adopted half-sister (that's a mouthful!) that my dad and stepmom adopted from China a couple years ago.
Languages I'm fluent in: Just English... although I'm getting pretty good at Spanish, and my Esperanto is passable enough for the Internet.
Languages I'm learning: Chinese
Languages I want to learn in the future: Oh God, too many. What's left of French (I've had about a year's worth), German, Japanese, Italian, Norwegian, Swedish, Arabic, Portuguese, maybe Hebrew, Finnish, Hungarian, Russian, Toki Pona (I've pretty much learned all there is to learn about Toki Pona, I just haven't committed any of it to memory, and it would be pretty awesome to be "fluent" in Toki Pona), more that escape me at the moment
Favourite Colour(s): Idunno, blue? Yeah, I'm going with blue.
Some other stuff:
- I'm even more devoted to music than I am to languages... I have effectively lost count of the number of instruments I can play (it's somewhere around 11 or 12 now, I think), and I'm studying composition at UNC-Chapel Hill; I also play in bands and make NES music
- I'm vegetarian
- I invent languages as a hobby... so far I don't have an awful lot to show for it, but hopefully one day I'll have at least one language up to basic usability
- I have a dog, a miniature dachshund who is presently sleeping at my feet
- at the moment, I have about an hour to read a day's worth of readings for an evening class I'm taking on the history of Chinese civilization; I can't focus! confused
