“You think you could stop me?” Akira asked mischievously. She really wanted to try now, not out of any desire to actually hurt Dalton, but just to see if she could. How would his tinkering and gadgets compare to her combat prowess? “I think that would only work once. They would definitely get the Planet Buster back from the fall guy. You’d certainly need to make it a paid day worth wild. The kind the whole crew could retire on.” All in all it wasn’t a bad plan though. She’d enter it into her list of possible hits down the road and see if she could turn it into a solid plan at some point. "Oh I'm sure some of them might have even been released by now. Get some rest Dalton. I’ll come release you once I’ve had enough to drink.” She winked at him before moving to leave the important guests room.

He cast a glance at her and then gave her a slight smile. "No, I don't think I could stop you. I know I can." He winked and then dropped the subject, he had no interest in fight her. Honestly it would be a difficult match, not because of how armoured she was or the weapon she was using, things like that could be dealt with. His problem was that he was too emotionally involved with her and would probably hesitate if push came to shove. "Hey, it was just a working idea, I've little to no interest in using something like that for its intended purpose and I was just saying that you don't need to think of it as some sort of weapon that can never be fired." He had taken apart his weapon, cleaned most of it and was now busy putting it back together. "Well the ones we didn't kill." He laughed a little at the notion. It made him feel just that little bit better knowing that most of the death row inmates, the people that were there for the worst crimes and he had personally screwed over the hardest were dead. "Ooh, careful, the crew 'll get the wrong idea." He finished putting his gun back together and holstered it.

Dalton woke a few hours later to what he thought was a pretty annoying alarm clock and the pair of hands poking his face in distress. He really shouldn't have given them as much free will as he had but he found the idea of robotic hand butlers to be too good to pass up. He staggered out of bed, crossed the room and pee'd in the sink, they had uninstalled the toilet after one sap had flooded the room. It wasn't straight away, they let the guy stew for a couple of days to understand what kind of mistake he had made first. As his senses returned to him he realised that the annoying sound that he had been ignoring up until now was the 'battle stations' alarm and by now the crew would be in battle stations. He crossed the room to the door, pressed a button to reveal a hand scanner and then let himself out. There was no sense in having a room that nobody could escape from, what if there was an emergency. He motioned for the hands to follow and made his way to the bridge and once he was there, made his way over to Akira. "Hey, what's the situation?"

“Who let you out of the closet?” Akira asked with a grin. Evidently the battle must not be too serious or she wouldn’t be joking. She didn’t become Captain by taking combat lightly. “We’ve found a good target for our decoy ship, now it is just a matter of taking her. “ She explained even as she brought up a hologram model of the ship they intended to take. A small transport ship known as a “Hot Shot” meant to get small loads to places quickly. Glow should be able to take her relatively easily once they engaged. At the moment they were hidden among the asteroids with Glow’s cloak up, so the other vessel was as of yet unaware it had been targeted. The problem with Hot Shots was once they got going they moved quickly, though they couldn’t hold enough fuel to go very far. The idea was to get as close as possible before making their presence known to the other ship. “Seems like an easy job for a rusty Captain to get back into the swing of things.”

"Ha, ha. Very funny. It was Augustus, the clown marsupial." He let his eyes widen as he stared into the distance with his harrowed face. "He came for me, like death." He suddenly switched and grinned. "Kidding, I drowned that creepy koala with his squirt flower." Then high-fived a passing crewman. "Sorry, got caught up in my nonsense." He shook his head and took a closer look at the hologram, he reached out and spun the ship to get a better look at the engines. He took a little walk over to the weapons panel and then returned to her, his plan already formed. "You sure? You don't mind? Their your men, you know what I'm like." He grinned and when he was sure she wasn't going to complain he started dishing out commands. "Pork pie, leviathan, over charge the bolt cannon, and ready the stasis packs." He walked over to the navigation terminal and pressed a button, a tube stuck out and two wires dropped down. He began attaching them to his weapon. "Akira, you're on the boarding party, one survivor. They were attacked by Syndicate, standard cargo robbery gone wrong. We don't need people looking for this ship." He got the go ahead from the two he had put on weapons. "Akira, you know what happens when you fire a overcharged bolt cannon into a B-19 burst engine? Nothing. But what if they were using resonance transistors to compensate for shielding? Massive system shutdown." He aimed his gun at the screen as the Hot Shot passed and fired once. There was a slight delay but he had accommodate for it and the bolt hit the engine causing the ship drift. "Stasis it and tether it to the Glow. Akira, you know what to do." He began to unplug his gun, he would catch up with Akira shortly, he just needed to grab some ammo before heading out.

Maybe if his stay was going to be more permanent she would have given handing control over to Dalton more thought, but as it was it was pretty easy to fall back into the old ways. Akira gave Dalton a mock salute and a grin before hitting the switch that caused the helmet of her armour to form around her head once more. Most would find hanging around in armour all of the time uncomfortable, but Akira actually preferred it, probably due to her military days before she bashed some guy’s skull in for making one too many comments about her heritage.

Blaming other organizations for their misdeeds was nothing new to the crew of Afterglow and each member had a role the play. The guy with the big mouth who let it slip who they were working for the Syndicate, the nervous guy who turned a simple robbery into a fire fight and murder, and the idiot who let a witness escape. Showmanship and acting was a much largely part of piracy than one would think, at least aboard Afterglow. While the crew of their target was distracted by trying to diagnose their sudden engine problems, the crew of Glow boarded her. With an ostentatious display the pirates split up to round up the other crew while making threats and shouting, all designed to frighten and disconcert the other crew. The killing would come later when their nervous new recruit started shooting, but for now it was a simple robbery so they gathered everyone up in the cargo hold.

Dalton left Lucky in charge of the bridge, he was first mate and Akira trusted him. He stopped by storage before moving on to join Akira, he was taking his time for a reason, he didn't want a good plan to go bad because one of the crew recognised him and remembered his face. The best time to jump in was when fighting had broken out and he could move freely. That was what he had thought until he spied a scarf as he passed though the crew quarters. He went into the room to grab it when he noticed a member of the crew sat on the bed. "Akira know your here? Come with me." He could see the fear in the man's eyes and when he shook his head, Dalton knew what had to be done. He grabbed the scarf and wrapped it around his mouth. it did a pretty good job of obscuring his face but left a gab just big enough that he could talk without it being muffled. He reached Akira with the rookie in tow, clearly it had said something that he was more scared of Dalton then he was of a raid. "Found 'ickle Timmy hiding out in one of the rooms." He saw her looking at the scarf and raised his hand. "If you want a real answer, don't ask." He shook his head, clearly she didn't have the issue he had as she could just armour up. "I was told to give you a message, Syndicate have been on the horn and they want this shipment ASAP." He sighed, clearly annoyed that he had to work for Syndicate even if it was all an act.

Akira raised a curious eyebrow at Dalton as he approached with his face covered with some random scarf and one of her crew in tow. Then she rolled her eyes, none of which was visible under her helmet. “I'll deal with ickle Timmy later, just get him loading up these crates. And tell Syndicate not to get their panties in a bunch we're working on it. Bunch of impatient, ungrateful.....” She mumbled several curse words under her breath before quickly turning to the group in front of her and shouting. “Well! Why are you all standing around? Get this loaded on our ship ASAP! Worthless dogs all of you!”

Dalton shoved Timmy out and onto the deck. "You heard the boss, get to work." He waited patiently for Akira's answer. "They also wanted to ask if you were interested in the Cirrus job?" The Cirrus sector was well within Genesis territory and if anyone got wind of a Syndicate plot there they would almost certainly pull security from around the galaxy to strengthen the sector. "I told them you you were still undecided, but their pushing me for an answer." He had been helping to load the ship when he stopped to talk to her in front of the youngest member of the small crew, the kid had the look in his eyes that most of the rest of the crew didn't he wanted a fight and was just looking for an opportunity. Dalton swept his jacket back, exposing his gun from the back and just as he did he felt the kid reach for it and take a shot at the captain. He had loaded it with the smallest caliber rounds he could find just in case he got caught in the crossfire but if he had know he wouldn't be the target he would have found something that would have put her armour through its paces. He grabbed his gun back from the kid as fighting erupted around him.

“Fine, tell them we'll do the Cirrus job.” Akira answered irritably with a bit of a sigh while the men got to work loading the ship. Honestly she was glad the kid took the bait, because while Dalton was a talker she wasn't too sure where their fake conversation would go from there. The crew dropped the cargo and started shooting while the captives scrambled for either cover or attempting to get in close range in order. “Hold your fire!” She yelled, but of course the crew ignored her as gun fire rang out. A bullet ricocheted off of the chest piece of her armour. It seemed at least one of their prisoners managed to get their hands on a gun, so giving up on ordering her crew about she pulled out her small caliber pistol and started shooting with the rest.

Dalton took a tube of coolant out of his jacket and stuck it onto the barrel, it was a rivet gun at heart and while he would have liked to have used it as it was intended he really didn't think firing hot lead around an unshielded ship was a good idea. He looked up at the kid who was nursing his nose and grinned slightly. "The punishment for theft from me is death." He pulled the trigger, steam hissed out of one side and a rivet as big as his thumb flew out and split the boy's skull asunder. Dalton looked at his gun, impressed by the sound it made before turning to return fire on the crowd. He fired a few rounds as he retreated back to Akira. "Not using the big guns? You've changed, there used to be a time when you would blow holes in space stations to hit your mark." He wasn't saying it was a bad thing, in fact if anything she was taking her role a lot more seriously for it. He scanned the crowd as he bounced between crates and he for cover. "Guy at the back with the shattered knee, he's dropped his gun and nobody else seems to care. He survives." The man in question was pretty low to the ground so they could open fire without risking him. It was just up to her to decide when to finish the fight.

“Well it is hard to have a survivor if there is no oxygen in the room.” Akira pointed out, the grin she was wearing heard in her tone even underneath the helmet. She still liked the big guns but everyone who wasn’t wearing an air tight suit like hers, Dalton included, would quickly run out of breathable air. She glanced back at the man with the shattered knee then to Dalton and shook her head. “It’ll take him ages to escape with that knee. No way will it be realistic. Besides the crew already let a couple slip while you were fooling around with that rivet gun.” She winked before remembering that her face was currently covered, ruining the moment slightly. “I saw we have fun for about five minutes and then finish off the rest.”.

Dalton motioned that he didn't mind a little danger if it was for her fun and winked at her. He could see the sense in not blowing a hole in the side of this ship but at the same time didn't want her to come away disappointed by the encounter. "Have the boy's bring their shields online and increase their gravity, that how you keep oxygen in a sinking space ship. How do you think you survived the encounter on Sigma Alpha? It wasn't luck that kept the air in that derelict." He leaned out from behind cover, and shot the man with the injured knee, the rivet entered his head and then flew out sideways into the arm of his ally who stared at his friend in shock. Who he shot, plastering his brains across the back wall while he was distracted. It wasn't the killing Dalton liked, it was making his enemies feel fear. It was probably wasn't a good thing, but it beat turning to something else for cheap thrills. "It was only a suggestion, I thought we could hive him a helping hand and turned a blind eye while he dragged his way to the escape pods." He paused and looked at her. "Since there will be no survivors anyway, we can talk freely. I was thinking of using the heavy mod for the cruise, it a little bulkier, closer to how it originally looked but fired those mean looking spikes. You know, the ones that a designed to make people bleed. What do you think?" He unscrewed the empty vial of coolant and attached another to the gun, he had been firing while talking to her but felt he could probably get a little more efficiency out of it if had time to work on his gun. "I know their all civilians but we have to make an example of someone. What weapons you taking? The plasma injector or that crazy looking cannon under the sheet in storage?" He wondered if he was supposed to have know about that, he had taken a quick peek while on his way past.

"Are you sure it wasn't luck?" Akira questioned with an amused tone, as she suggested her surviving Sigma Alpha had nothing to do with Dalton or his mechanical abilities. She fired a few rounds at a pair who momentarily had one of her crew pinned down behind some boxes. The armour made fighting these guys too easy. She hoped the cruise ship had something on board that could damage her armour and provide a bit of a challenge. "Hit a couple of security guards if one of those and I don't think we'll need to worry about too many passengers trying to be heroes." She agreed. There was almost always at least one who tried to be a hero. Case in point, the current fire fight they were engaged in, due to one kid trying to grab Dalton's gun. "Plasma. I was thinking I would save the crazy looking cannon for when we track down your blackmailer. Unless of course you wanted to give that one a more personal touch instead of just obliterating them." She was always a more kill them and be done with it type. She liked big guns, big explosions and turning her enemies into ash instead of torturing them. Not that she was squeamish about torture, the incident with the spy had more than proven that, but she didn't exactly enjoy it. If it bothered that Dalton had been snooping, she didn't show it. "Should be enough time." She muttered to herself before clicking on the comms. "Alright you lazy dogs, lets finish this off." After all, they really hadn't been trying too hard up until now.

"Oh that right. What did I tell you at the time? Space magic? Yeah, no, all the air was kept in due to space magic and mystic ooze. That's how they build space ships." He spoke with some degree of authority despite both of them knowing it was completely made up. He was fine tuning his gun as he shot and was happy with the results after two or three successful kills. He leaned against the crates he was taking cover behind and looked at her as she spoke, talking to her took priority over killing the remainder of the crew. "I'll take two or three, I don't want to get covered in blood, that's a sure fire way to return home infected with all sorts." He grinned, he was only half serious there wasnt much need for him to worry about getting sick, he was fairly sure there was a doctor for everything if you had the money for it. "You mind if I take a look at your weaponry then?" He grinned, clearly his real intention had been getting at her gun and seeing if he could get any ideas for his own blaster. "Provided he's amicable, I don't mind how we dispose of him. I think he would be honoured to be turned into radioactive space ash and then ejected into a black hole. I mean I'd need to have a word with him before we do anything permanent to him but yeah, I'll put space cannon on the possible list, along with left to float through space in a steel coffin and liquefied." Steel coffins were one man space ships that had no food or water, engines or communications and were generally set adrift in space. Most ships avoided them and the ones that didn't wouldn't be so kind as to let an occupant life if he were still alive. "Person with the most kills gets a free drink on the captain." He looked at Akira and grinned, shooting through his cover at two men kneeling behind a crate.

"Curse Genesis for hogging all of the Mystic Ooze and not sharing it with the rest of us. We ought to rob them and spread some of that ooze around." She had a feeling this was going to become a long running joke between the two of them. Akira and her armour were a lost cause for the poor crew of the Hot Shot they had targeted. It took a much more powerful weapon than they standard pistols to do much more than scratch the armour, so while Dalton was hiding behind creates, she stood more or less in the open and fired away. She was particularly proud of a head shot she had managed, but for the most part they were body shot. She grinned under her helmet when Dalton declared he didn't want to get covered in blood for fear of a space sickness. "Sounds like you need some armour of your own." Most of the crew had some degree of armour. They were free to spend their share of the plunder on whatever they wished, but if you wanted to stick around long weapons and armour were generally the first place money went. Of course a certain percent was set aside for things like ship maintenance, repairs and upgrades as well as things they all shared like food and drinks, particularly rum. "Would it stop you if I did mind?" Clearly he was going to look at the weapon regardless of if she minded or not, not that she really did as long as he didn't make any modifications to it without telling her. That one time he had supercharged her laser rifle without telling her had nearly gotten her killed. "I would vote for space ash." Of course she would. Akira had always preferred killing quickly an efficiently. If the corpse wasn't right in front of her, it meant there was still a chance, no matter how small, that their enemy had lived. "I guess I better get shooting then." She said simply before moving to take out the remaining members of the crew.
