”Must have been a good book.” She remarked as Elsie said her morning farewell to her new pet and the two of them departed. Kyra had nothing else to do but wait up in the dorm room. She could have gone down to breakfast alone and wasn’t that worried about getting lost but she had this strange feeling that the excitable girl would have ended up in the wrong part of the castle if left unattended. Parts of the castle that students weren’t supposed to be. Kyra walked behind Elsie has the girl hurried off to the steps and skipped down at a much quicker pace then her. She finally caught up at the bottom of the stairs and then made her way over to the door, watching Elsie swing her arms about. The two of them seemed like solar opposites. Elsie with her fast paced excitable skipping and arms going all over the place, and Kyra with her reserved walking, arms barely moving with her steps. If she had a book out she’d probably be clutching it to her chest as she walked. The way she walked appeared delicate, methodical even, her back straight and head held up. To an observant eye, it would be clear that she came from a wealthy wizarding family where manners and etiquette were instilled upon children. Kyra tried her best to relax when she wasn’t around her mother or father, but it would take much longer for Hogwarts to undo an entire upbringing. It was one of the reasons she so desperately wanted House Ravenclaw and not Hufflepuff or Slytherin where children she knew growing up had been placed. No doubt her father would be displeased with the sorting hat. Kyra had no idea how her mother had taken to the house she was placed in. But being a Ravenclaw would help her avoid her mothers ever watchful eyes.
”You’re going tire yourself by the time lunch starts if you keep hopping around the steps the way you do, is what I think.” She replied, but couldn’t help a small smile as she Elsie’s shoes clacked against stone from another hop up and back down. At least it allowed Kyra’s short slow strides to keep up with the red head but there she didn’t think there was any way Elsie would be able to keep herself in check long enough before bolting off down the hall or something. Her own home had its fair share of stairs so she didn’t think too much of it. The fact that the stairs moved made her uneasy, and she’d heard rumors of steps just disappearing and sending students plummeting down to the cold stone floors below. Kyra gave a curt nod in greeting to the painting as she passed it and let her eyes watch some of the others that lined the large walls of the castle. Each painting had a story and she was curious as to if anyone had ever documented the stories behind them all. Those thoughts were soon put aside as they entered the large hall and wound their way to the Ravenclaw table to sit. It was late enough in the morning that most of the staff had already departed so Kyra didn’t spot her mother up on the empty dias where the teachers sat. ”Wait, we already lost five points?!” She asked in astonishment as her head whipped around to look at Elsie as she broke the news. Now the taunting from the Slytherin made sense. Winning the house cup was always a huge deal in Hogwarts, even Kyra knew that and starting off at -5 would put Ravenclaw at a disadvantage. It also meant there was already a troublemaker among them. Out of all the houses, Slytherin had the best record at winning the house cup every year followed by Gryffndor, leaving Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw staggering behind. Kyra had hopes that her house would win it at least once while she was here. This year didn’t seem a likely candidate already... Kyra noted that Elsie didn’t seem so concerned about it so she turned her attention to the food before her but none of it looked to lift her mood much. She reached for a banana and peeled it back and began nibbling on it slowly, swallowing before replying. ”Yes. In the dungeons. That’s also where the Slytherin and Hufflepuff commons rooms are locate… wait. Other school? Students don’t attend Hogwarts until after they turn 11. Did you have a private tutor or something?” She asked curiously, obviously unfamiliar with the muggle world. She waved off the offer of the banana muffin, more interested in topic Elsie’s life.
After Elsie returned from speaking with the perfect she looked a bit nervous but Kyra didn’t put much thought into it as she listened to the directions and tried to memorize them. Seemed simple enough. Stairs, turns, more stairs and a large wooden door. She didn’t see any reason to stay around and still wasn’t hungry as she lifted her legs and spun around on the bench to stand up. Kyra bent over her bag and pulled out her potions book, slinging the bag around her shoulder and carrying the book with her. She wanted to make a good first impression to show that she could be on time, and ready for all her classes. There was no doubt that her mother would ask the other teachers how her daughter was doing. ”Best we head that way then incase we do get lost, we can still make it before the bell rings.”
Kyra waited for Elsie to finish eating and grab her stuff before she started walking back towards entrance hall to make their way towards the dungeons. As they were passing between the large arches of the great halls a dark haired girl called out to them, her voice pitched high and snooty. ”Good morning. Sllluuuggg.” the voice shouted, dripping with childish venom. Kyra knew the voice immediately and turned with narrow eyes towards the Slytherin. Irma Crabbe. The Crabbe family was a pure blooded wizarding family, often birthing Slytherin children and not a child there was nice. On the train ride to Hogwarts, Kyra was safe from their taunting because of her mothers position at the school and her fathers job at the Ministry of Magic. But the second the Sorting Hat placed her in Ravenclaw, she became free game for the slimey slytherin. ”I heard your mother and father both cried when their precious little daughter got dumped into Ravenclaw. the girl continued, saying ‘ravenclaw’ like the word itself was gross. ”Has your daddy sent you a letter yet to disown you? Oh.. and what’s this? You’ve made a friend. How adorable.” Several students who were standing in the same group as the girl howled with laughter at the mockery, which only spurned her onward. ”Wait.. Oh.. Its you. I see someone decided to give you their spare wizard robes to wear instead of those rags you dirtied this school with.” The kids in the group howled even louder but Kyra kept on walking and for a change her pace quickened as she glared at the Slytherins. If she knew any curses she’d have half a mind to pull out her wand and fire off curses but on the first day there wasn’t anything to do. ”Just leave us alone, Irma.” Was all Kyra could say back which only brought on more pestering as the group mocked her while making fake crying faces at them. Kyra grabbed Elsie at the shoulder and dragged her away down the hall, afraid the excitable girl wouldn’t be as content with just walking from this fight. ”Just ignore them..”She muttered with a glance backwards.
Using the directions that Elsie had gotten from the perfect, combined with the quickened pace of Kyra’s angry steps got them into the dungeons and to the large wooden door in almost no time as all. The doors were already open, but no noise came fourth and it only took a quick peek inside to see that they were the first ones into the class. That’s a first… she thought mentally, wondering just how early they arrived.

Elsie paused then hesitantly said, “It was an... interesting book...” Not wanting to admit she found the book rather dull. Herbology is going to be such a chore.... Elsie thought. As she skipped down the steps; her satchel bounced against her; and her hair started to dry just from her hyper movement alone. She did not mind waiting for Kyra at all, though with all the talks of the missing points; Elsie felt as if all eyes were on her. Though no one knew a thing. Elsie once more glanced back at Kyra, admiring the delicate way the girl walked. Elsie had been told many times at grammar school that she needed to learn to act like a lady; but she never could. She always scored high marks in the school work. But the school had sent many letters home about her behavior. As far as she knew, Markelm had always taken care of things. She was never sent home at least, she just stood many times in the corner for not listening. She hoped Markelm would not get letters while she was here. She wanted to prove she was not a bad child. Great start to that... Elsie thought to herself with a tone of disappointment as she left the dorm room with Kyra.
Elsie glanced up at Kyra with a grin before she hopped backwards on the steps then she said, “Maybe I can tire myself out enough to actually sleep through the night.” After the painting talked to her, Elsie found her eyes glancing more at the enchanted paintings. She wanted to know more about how it worked. Would the library have their stories? She was curious; and lost in thought as she skipped off the steps to turn the corner and she almost lost her footing again when the staircase they had just been on, moved. That will take some getting used to... She thought as she stood still for the first time since she had woken.
Once in the main hall, Elsie was munching on bacon while Kyra was surprised by the missing points. Carefully picking her words Elsie nodded and said, “We can make up those missing points by having an awesome first day in our classes. I am sure the teachers will give us a chance to get points. And we have all year.” She was trying to reassure herself too that it was not that bad after all. She was looking forward to checking out the dungeons. If there was time, she would like to explore a bit before class. Just because. She was surprised children in the wizard world did not go to school at all before they go to magic school. Though, to be fair; it was hard enough to be accepted into school because she was a girl. Barmey system that is. She thought to herself and she munched more of the muffin as she pondered on what to say. “So there is no primary school in the wizard world? Hmm... well, I went to a school in London. The Henrietta Barnett School, in fact. Went there four years.” Elsie said proudly. She was glad to be gone with it though. They were nice enough, and she learned during her time there, she simply hated that she got into trouble for such silly reasons. Comparing the two very different schools, Elsie decided she liked that there were boys at her new school; plus she was going to learn magic! And more about her parents world; if her parents in fact came from this world. She overheard some children talking that some had muggle parents. “The muggle world is very different, from what I can tell. I was very lucky to be accepted to that school; there was no way he could afford a private school, and girls are not welcomed to many of the schools. The grammar schools that did, were further than I could travel. Many suggested I should just start work; but I wanted to learn. I am very glad that worked out. Hmm... the other school was interesting alright. While I love being at Hogwarts so far, and it is much better.... I do miss London. I got to explore lots of Hampstead Garden while I was waiting for Markelm... I mean Professor Nicholias. Gosh that is going to take some getting used to....” Elsie said with a sigh.
When Kyra stood, Elsie grabbed an apple and she hopped off the bench as she bit into the fruit, holding it while she shouldered her bag and adjusted her robes; then she finished the bite; ripping off a large chunk of apple. She nodded in agreement about leaving and followed after Kyra; taking another big bite of the fruit; she would finish the apple in just a few bites at this rate. She heard an annoying voice call Kyra slug, and she turned; realizing the two probably knew each other. Kyra after all had announced people called her slug. Frowning; Elsie munched on the apple but she stayed quiet listening to the new girl speak. She was furious this little tosser was treating Kyra like this; though Elsie was unsure if it was her place to say anything just yet. When the snide little Slytherin turned her attention to Elsie; causing her to blush in rage mixed with embarrassment. She did not want to get into a fight, and risk losing her house more points, but she could not let that nasty girl get away with those comments. Her green eyes slit into a glare as she said, “Piss off ya manky maggot...” She would have said more but Kyra pulled her along quickly walking away. Ignore them?! Elsie thought but she took a calming breath, exhaling slowly. Ooooooooooooo! I aught to turn her into a newt... thought that would be an insult to the poor newts... Elsie thought, quite angry as she followed Kyra; surprised by how fast she was going. “How do you know Irma? She seems to be a downright prat....” Elsie muttered as she finished the last piece of apple.
They arrived to their class with no problems, Elsie spotted a trash can by the front door and threw out the apple core. She never could understand people who ate the core. She looked around as she wiped her hands on her robe, and she realized they were the first ones in class. “Where do you want to sit?” Elsie asked as she eyed the room.
Professor Gine; the potions teacher, was middle aged; well for a witch. Her gray hair had some blonde streaks still left and she was dressed casually; though authoritative. At that moment, she was sorting her desk when the two first years from Ravenclaw showed up a bit early. There was still quite some time left before the bell; but she would take advantage of their presence. She was going to show the first years how to make a memory potion; something very useful for students. Especially when there is a test. She doubted any of the first years could create the potion on their own, but she would award the created potion to one lucky student at the end of the week. “Hello, I am Professor Gine. You two are just in time to help me set up a potions demonstration I will be doing for you all; so gather by my desk and I will show you what needs to be done. Put your things down, and first off, what are your names?”
Elsie did not like that the Professor was going to make them stand in front of others and help with the demonstration. Please don't let us be paired with Slytherin. She thought and she introduced herself as she put her bags next to where Kyra picked her seat. She walked over to Professor Gine's desk and eyed the messy papers scattered. For some reason, Elsie was reminded of Markelm.
(decided that when Elsie is mad, she uses slang she picked up in London. I researched the area of her school; and lots of people who would use that speech would be around there. XD So s**t, and shite; prat and tosser... etc... she did not all pick that up from Markelm XD)

"Once classes get into full swing I'm sure we'll be exhausted from classes and writing essays. At least staying up late gives you enough time to do homework." She pointed out as her shoes continued to slowly click and clack against the stone stairs leading downstairs. Kyra herself always valued free time and taking small naps so she felt saddened that much of her nap time would probably end up going into late nights with quill and parchment. Kyra didn't have much trouble with her footings, but with such precise and slow steps she was able to accommodate the movement of the steps as they shifted about, sometimes shifting into blank doorless walls or empty air. Hopefully all the students would pay attention enough not to cause themselves injury.
"I guess that's true. I just hope someone figures out who the trouble maker was so the rest of us can keep an eye on them. " Kyra glanced about the remaining students and pondered quietly if any of them seemed like the troublesome type. She wouldn't directly confront him/her of course, but there was no shame in going to the house head or one of the perfects and informing them. The conversation soon switched to Elsie talking about muggle life and Kyra could only sit there in and listen intently as she tried to comprehend a world without magic. She had always considered full muggle families as barbarians and couldn't grasp how they ever got anything done. She wanted to just lay in and grill Elsie about everything Muggle but held her tongue. It wasn't polite to prod and dig her nose in somebody elses life so she merely nodded and listened, giving a wide stare at the thought of children going to work. Wizards weren't allowed to even use magic till their 17th birthday. Well, they could technically use magic but they would get in trouble with the Ministry and sent to Azkaban. Just the thought of the wizard prison sent chills down Kyra's spine. "Did Professor Nicholais live like a muggle, then?"
Kyra's jaw almost dropped as the words Piss, manky, and maggot poured fourth from Elsie's mouth. "Elsie!" She squeaked in astonishment. Even some of the Slytherin students in the group stood dumbfounded at the sudden use of foul language from such a little girl. Kyra was fuming, but was suddenly afraid that wands might fly out and spells attempted despite the fact that none of these students likely knew any curses. Even so she decided to diffuse the situation by just running away and taking Elsie with her. It wasn't until they had reached the dungeons that Kyra's long legs slowed down to her normal sluggish pace and she huffed, letting go of Elsie. "She's far worse than a prat. And my father belonged to Slytherin when he attended Hogwarts. He works for the Ministry now so there are a plenty of students or parents we've had over to our.... house... or I've talked to at parties and such." She paused for a second to catch her breath and to let the redness of embarrassment leave her cheeks. "Most of them thought I'd be in Hufflepuff or Slytherin and those snakes are always offended when a student isn't put in their house, or something." Though Irma was always one of the worst. She was part of a old wizarding family who treated themselves much as the Malfoys did, like wizard royalty and talked down to anyone else. Kyra was always spared with her father being in the Ministry and her mother an esteemed teacher at Hogwarts. That and her mother was considered astonishingly beautiful by both men and women alike.
Kyra shrugged when prompted about seating arrangements. She wasn't sure if the teacher would pre-assign them a seat or if it was free. She was about to answer as such until the teacher had spoken. "Yes Professor." Kyra replied as she was instantly turned into a class helper it seemed and prompted to wait over by the desk. She walked with Elsie to where instructed and began letting her eyes wander about the room to the tables and glass cabinets filled with potions and bottles of herbs and other potion making components. The room had a musky smell to it which was probably due to the fact that they were in the dungeons. It was only now that Kyra became aware of just how quiet it was down here, surrounded by thick stone walls with only candles or magical light to illuminate things. Kyra put her things down as instructed. "My name is Kyra Hallow, Professor." She replied, all proper and full of courtesy like she was taught.. The resemblance to her mother was clear as she had the same full pouty lips and long silvery hair and eye color.

Elsie was not as confident about the school draining her boundless energy but she nodded. The busy homework would definitely keep her from getting into trouble. Though she still had plans to explore the Ravenclaw tower. There was no way she could get into trouble there, right? She skipped ahead down the stairs a bit and looked up; watching the staircases move at random. How strange. She thought and wonder of where they lead too, drifted in her mind. Hmm I wonder if I can convince Kyra to explore with me after classes are over.
Elsie nibbled on the muffin as she said, “I think we should just leave it alone. We all will eventually lose or raise points for our house over the time here, why single one person out?” She was horrified of people finding out who did lose them the points. She was sorry, she really was. She did not lie though, and she hoped that if anyone did figure it out; they would understand how sorry she was. She was glad for the distraction of muggle talk. She was starting to suspect Kyra would love to hear all kinds of stories about living like a muggle. “I guess. It is more mixed than that. But I guess I really don't know how a wizarding family lives. So compared to many of the kids here, I bet it could be considered living like a muggle.” She said with a shrug. She then smiled as she played with an apple on the table, “Maybe you can tell me about that world and I can tell you about London.” She said with a smile.
Used to that language around London, Elsie scoffed at the surprise and outcry from the students and Kyra. That was mild, compared to what she knew. She saw nothing wrong with what she said. Though, she would be careful to not speak that way around teachers at least. Elsie followed Kyra's lead and left, though it left a bitter taste in her mouth to let those bullies get away. She listened to Kyra explain how she knew those students; and in a roundabout way, why they were such jerks. “Well, I am glad you are in Ravenclaw. You don't need to be around people like that. Minger lot they are....” She said while they walked.
Once in the classroom, Elsie watched Kyra curtsied and Elsie realized just how different her new friend was from her. She straightened herself a little and stood tall. She did not take much account into her appearance before, aside from making sure she wore her school uniform correctly. Maybe she should ask Kyra some pointers
Professor Gine glanced at the little redhead who announced herself as Elsie Nicholais. Ah; so she's his little ward. Bridget Gine thought, wondering what to expect from this child. Bridget was not one of the teachers who was against Markelm being there, though she wondered about him. She tried to not prejudge people. Then after meeting a person she gives them three strikes. Three strikes when they meet before she knows if they are worth knowing or not. In the case of children, the three strikes tell her if they were going to cause trouble that year or not. Bridget eyed the girl Elsie a long while before she turned her attention to the silver haired girl; Kyra Hallow. The girl curtsied and acted very polite. Bridget knew Veronica Hallow only in passing. Bridget was new to teaching at Hogwarts, though she had taught at other magic schools. She knew how to control a class of children. The two students that arrived early seemed to be nice enough, she found it rather amusing at how those two were like night and day; but seeming to be friends. It was wonderful seeing people withdifference befriend each other. Bridget thought, remembering her time at this school. Another child of a teacher though. Interesting. I will have to meet Markelm and Veronica properly it seems. They would be wanting to keep in the loop; or so Bridget assumed. When Elsie and Kyra were both at the desk; Bridget pointed to a crystal cauldron off to the side on the shelf, next to other cauldrons of many different materials. Then, she nodded towards a cabinet. On it, lay many ingredients. All labeled clearly; the powders in jars, liquids in phials, feathers each in their own clear trunk; twigs in a clear box and such. The rarer ingredients are up on the wall behind the professor, locked behind chains keeping the tiny clear doors closed. “Please bring that crystal cauldron over, as well the powdered sunstone, shrivelfig juice, a Jobberknoll feather; powered unicorn horn and a medium phial. They are all labeled carefully; you should have no problem finding them on the shelf.” She said as she went back to her papers; memorizing the list of new students she would have this year.
Bridget shuffled the papers on her desk and organized them into a neat pile while the supplies she had asked for were being brought to her desk. Soon, the classroom started to fill up. Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw during this hour. Hopefully the students would get along, and there would be little conflict. The bell rang and Bridget asked for silence with a crisp remark of the word; Quiet. “Hello students, I am Professor Gine. Now, when I call your name, simply raise your hand, I would like to meet you all.” She said; and she named off all the students off the top of her head. She remembered their faces and linked them to their names before she glanced at her two helpers. “Miss. Nicholais and Miss. Hallow will be helping me with a potions demonstration this morning; this potion, if done correctly takes precisely forty three minutes to create. This potion, is called a memory potion. It helps your mind retrieve things you have forgotten. While the potion is being made; I want the rest of you to open your magical drafts and potions book to page 13.” She waited for the sitting students to take out their books, then began to explain the proper way to measure, while she directed Elsie and Kyra to start measuring.
The class was given sugar and she asked them to guess an ounce. With a tap of her wand, she had the sugar form statues leaving behind the spare sugar; or crumbling in shape if there was not enough. “As you can see class, it is hard to truly measure without the proper tools. Potions is a science, there is no room for guesswork in this so you must learn to properly measure, count and craft each ingredient correctly. Just one gram off, and your potion can be ruined. So make sure to be precise." She stated, hopefully proving her point of taking guesswork out of potions. She nodded while she went back to the girls up front; checked the measurements and added the ingredients in the potion. She pointed out the correct colors the potion changed, and showed how to properly stir a potion. The two girls were instructed to hand her the ingredients when she needed them, while they kept an eye on the pot when she checked the sugar measuring. The class went on to what tool to use when measuring, and how to prepare some more common ingredients. She quizzed them on the proper tools to use, and started asking about random items often found when creating potions. Seeing if anyone in class knew what their uses were.
By the time the potion was ready, Bridget was summarizing what items the students would be needing to bring each time they came to class. Fridays were the days they work on their own potions, while Mondays they learn about herbs and how to gather supplies down the road. Wednesdays were a mix of the two and she would announce Monday what they will need. "This Friday I want you to bring your silver knife, three phials, your mortar and pestle; scales and your cauldron. We will be making a cure for boils." She said and she held up the medium phial filled with the memory potion. "The student who makes the potion that day correctly, will gain this memory potion as a present. So study hard." The two girls were able to finally take their seat, the children were told to take the remaining time to better know their classmates. She then went to clean up her desk.
Memory potion: Exactly 8oz of powdered sunstone. Add powdered sunstone until the potion turns orange stir until the potion turns gold add powdered sunstone until the potion turns green allow to simmer until the potion turns pink add 2ml of shrivelfig juice; until it turns purple shake 1 oz of powdered unicorn horn slowly, until the potion turns turquoise carefully pluck the Jobberknoll feather and add exactly half of the feather allow potion to simmer until the potion turns orange stir until the potion turns gold add the rest of the feather, it should turn blue. Add powered sunstone until the potion turns green the feather should be completely dissolved by now, stir until it turns gray Use your wand; green sparks should appear in the potion simmer until it turns a bright yellow bottle immediately after.

Kyra wasn't sure she could share the same nonchalant attitude about gaining or losing points that Elsie seemed to share but she decided to let the topic drop. Kyra had no plans on losing points for her house but at the very least, if she did then she didn't have to face her own mother who was the head of house Hufflepuff and many of the students she knew prior to Hogwarts who were apart of that house. Instead she focused on talk about muggles and the wizarding world and their respective differences. "Well, I've been to London you know. Diagon Alley, King's Cross Station and the Ministry are all located there. But I guess its a different place for muggles than it is for wizards. But I'd love to hear more about how muggles get by without magic when we have some free time. Maybe after classes end today."
Kyra was still in shock about the language Elsie had used but had begun to suspect that their different upbringings were going to make this potential friendship full of surprises. Even the word Minger made Kyra gasp quietly and shush her friend as her voice rang off the stone walls of the dungeons. "At least whisper if you're going to use such.. such uncivilized language.."
Kyra patiently waited at the head of the class as Professor Gine got things ready and her eyes followed the teachers pointing to the line of cabinets and shelves that contained many a jars, phials, trunks and boxes. "Yes, Professor." Kyra replied and began to do as they were instructed. "I'll get the ingredients if you can carry the cauldron. Its the crystal one, there. Just hold it out and I'll put everything we need inside of it." She told Elsie as both of them moved off to gather those things listed by Professor Gine. Kyra had no issues as her slender fingers read labels and plucked jars and phials off the shelves with familiar movements. She'd played assistant to her mother many a times at home and knew some of the ingredients by heart as lifted jars and phials, opening them and removing ingredients and placing them inside the cauldron. Kyra took a jobberknoll feather and the jars containing powdered components inside the cauldron also and when finished nodded to Elsie and followed her back to the teachers desk. She let Elsie pull the things back out of the cauldron and place them on the desk since the girl seemed to be better at organizing stuff than she. Kyra would have just dumped the cauldron out unceremoniously.. The class started to fill up as they stood there and Kyra fidgeted slightly, unsure if they were supposed to continue standing until they were instructed so. She felt nervous and uneasy being at the head of the class with all eyes and attention on her and Elsie but with a few deep breaths Kyra managed to calm herself enough to appear fine and when instructed to open her book she knelt down and pulled her copy of magical drafts and potions book out from her bag and set it on the desk next to the cauldron for her and Elsie to share. She wasn't even sure if they were supposed to use a copy of the book since they were being used to demonstrate the potion but she figured having the book open between themselves couldn't hurt. I wish I was sitting in the back..
Professor Gine started the class with a demonstration using sugar and teaching the class a valuable lesson about measuring correctly to avoid mistakes further along the process of making a potion. Kyra pulled close a set of scales and measuring tools to be used and let Elsie handle the measurements. Kyra was afraid her hands would shake or she'd drop something so she played assistant to the assistant. The class continued to drag on, ingredients being measured and introduced into the cauldron by Professor Gine. Kyra took over stirring duties to keep her mind off the rest of the class, watching the colors change in between mixtures and making mental note of the process and order to which things were measured and mixed. It didn't seem like that complicated a potion and when Professor Gine questioned the class about random items in potions Kyra found herself knowing several answers but she kept her hands at her side, often times fiddling with her robes. She didn't speak unless prompted and let Elsie do most of the talking, and the rest of the class do most of the question answering.
Kyra visibly sighed when they were finally allowed to take their seats. Unfortunately with the class already having filled up.. the only spots left to sit were right up in the front where everyone else didn't seem to want to sit. With no choice left to them, Kyra joined Elsie at one of the head tables.

Elsie heard about Diagon alley; a part of her hoped that Markelm would still take her. That he missed something on her list or her wand did not work out so she could go to that place. It seemed to be the prefect place to see what living like a witch was really like. “I live right by Kings cross station, I did not know there was much magic involved there until yesterday. Can see the lighthouse building right from my window.” She said, and for a moment she wondered if their apartment would be looked after while they were gone. With the talk of the troublemaker who lost the points last night, aka Elsie, was done. Elsie was starting to relax. She felt as if everyone was glaring at her in rage, accusing her of being a troublemaker. She was starting to look forward to the day now.
Elsie was confused by Kyra's harsh whisper to hush her, “What should I have called them then? I didn't say anything that bad.” Elsie said with a shrug. Obviously Elsie was never really told to clean up her language before. Hopefully Kyra would be a good influence on her. Rather than the other way around.
Elsie inwardly flailed when the Professor rattled off names of items she did not know about. When Kyra told her to grab the caldron, Elsie immediately pulled it off she shelf, and only after she was holding it did she worry about breaking it. What the heck was even a Jobberknoll? She wondered and she held the caldron with a death grip as Kyra placed the items in it. Elsie was distracted by the beautiful blue feather and she wondered what the bird looked like. When Kyra finished loading the items into the cauldron, Elsie went over and carefully laid out the jars and phial next to the cauldron; making sure all were away from the edge of the table. She survived holding the dang thing, there was no way she would let it fall now. Holding the feather, Elsie stroked the soft barbs of the feather then forced herself to sit it down. She kep ther hands busy by adjusting the containers on the desk, making them nice and neat while she waited for further instructions.
When the other students started to arrive, Elsie had the urge to sit back down. She did not like standing up in front of everyone. She blushed when she was introduced as Miss. Nicholais, she leaned back on her heels as she kept her hands in her robes, pulling on the sleeves. She eyed the others sitting at the desks and was thankful to see they were partnered with Hufflepuff this class. She was unsure she could face any Slytherin again this early in the day. Though, she remembered Kyra said her mother was from Hufflepuff. I wonder if she knows anyone there. Elsie took a calming breath as well while she waited to be told what to do, and she watched as Kyra took out her book when the class was instructed to open the book. Elsie glanced over at the page and saw it was all about the basics in potion making. While Elsie was handed the measuring tools from Kyra then slid the scales closer to Elsie, Elsie realized she would be the one measuring. Nervously, Elsie decided she would rather be sitting and measuring out sugar than help Professor Gine. We are not going to be early to the next class. No way. Elsie thought firmly while she carefully scooped and placed the sunstone on the scale getting it as close to 8oz as she could. She handed the jar to Kyra who placed it back next to the cauldron. Elsie started to relax as Professor Gine came back over and worked on the potion with them, murmuring as she made the potion she instructed them to carefully stir the pot, and Kyra did that as Elsie watched the students, then glance at their professor. She watched the potion change color to pink, the fourth color it had become by now. It was interesting, Elsie thought while she measured out the shrivlefig juice with a dropper. Potion making was fun, she was starting to realize and she grinned when Professor Gine nodded accepting the next item to put into the potion. Step my step, the potion was forming. Elsie was wondering what it could do to people if someone did not do the proper steps. She did not know any of the answers to the potions questions and tried to be as invisible as possible, up there in front of the class. She said very little, aside from simple yes ma'am, right here; and such. She swayed back on her heels a few times in nervousness, but she stayed quiet. Please don't ask me any questions... Elsie thought as she handed the professor more powdered sunstone.
Blushing, Elsie squeaked with a shrug when Professor Gine asked Elsie if she knew where to find the shrivlefig. She noted the answer, Abyssinia, and looked away from the student who answered correctly. Elsie helped Kyra clean Kyra's potions tools they had used, she whispered to her new friend, "Well, at least that is over..." By the time she was allowed to sit at a desk, she sighed and flopped into the seat, resting her head on the desk and she murmured into the desk “Never again...” She did not want to talk to the other people in the class now. But she glanced at Kyra deciding to follow the girl's lead.
Professor Gine watched the children interact while she quietly cleaned as she listened. There were many things she had planned for these children. And she hoped that she would get some of them excited about the wonderful craft that is potions. She could tell right away there were going to be a few students that would be needing extra help; so she would pair up those with natural talent to those who had little talent. Things may balance that way. Washing her hands, Bridget nodded to herself then went to her desk, taking a seat. The two helps for that morning did a good job, though she was unsure why they had been so quiet. Ah well. No matter. She thought as she planned the next classes until the bell rang; releasing them all from her classroom. “Miss. Nicholais. Miss. Hallow, a moment please.” she said before the two girls had the chance to leave. She slid two chocolate frogs out of her desk, a secret love of hers; she had plenty to share with random students. "For all your help, thank you." She said once the two girls reached her desk. She then waved them to be on their way.
Elsie gasped and looked at the strange box, chocolate frog? A magical treat? Was it real frog? She has had frog legs before, they were not horrid, but with chocolate? Interesting. "Thank you Professor!" She said with a grin and she took the chocolate frog, glancing at Kyra. She would wait until they left potions class before she asked the questions regarding the present. Once Kyra was ready, Elsie had a bounce back in her step and they were on their way to the next class.

”I.. I don’t know. Just call them brats or dimwits or something. Do you know what would happen if a teacher caught you using language like that?” She replied, but if she had to be honest with herself she wasn’t exactly sure if there were nice words and names she herself would use to describe them. She just wouldn’t be so bold as to speak those words aloud.
Kyra watched as Elsie took the items from the cauldron and put them on the desk to organize all the objects. Tilting a jar here, spinning one there and making sure all the labels were facing the same way. She definitely seemed a neat freak in Kyra’s eyes. Maybe having a friend who was good at organization wouldn’t be such a bad thing. It’d give her someone to lean on when it came to remembering details about homework or schedules or the orders at which potions ingredients were supposed to be applied in.
The class continued on without much of an hitch. No exploding potions, or poisonous gasses spewing fourth from cauldrons. Thankfully first years didn’t have to deal with anything too deadly and since Kyra had designated herself as the potion stirrer, she didn’t have to worry about messing up.. Though she did feel bad for having Elsie do much of the work. Professor Gine had seemed to make it clear that the two of them were daughters or at least associated with the Care of Magical Creatures professor and Herbology professor. Even if they were called by name during the sorting of the houses, she was hoping that most people wouldn’t have paid much attention or that students would be too tired and too hungry to memorize names and faces. I hope Professor Gine doesn’t call on us to help with demonstrations every lesson.. she thought idly as she stirred the cauldron again after the shrivelfig juice was added. It was rather fascinating how the potion changed colors and aromas based on what you put in there. Sometimes it smelled funky, but just adding one ingredient into the cauldron could completely change its color, consistency and aroma to be rather pleasant. Kyra even wondered what would happen if someone tried drinking a potion that wasn’t complete. Would they still get some of the potions effect? Or would it be poisonous.. She decided not to ask as the class continued to drag on. Kyra didn’t get called upon to answer any questions but she felt she’d have done better than Elsie and kind of felt bad for her.
Kyra felt relieved when it was all done and they busied themselves with cleaning up. ”Yeah.. I hope Professor Gine doesn’t make a habit of this. We may have to intentionally walk in late..” It may be worth a detention just to avoid becoming the teachers designated go to demonstration students.. Kyra slipped her potions book back in her bag as class ended and she slipped out of her seat and began to make her way to the door but was halted when Professor Gine told them to stay a moment. Kyra’s shoulders almost slumped as she wanted nothing more than to just jet out of there. Kyra straightened up and turned to face Professor Gine. Maybe she’ll award us 50 points a piece for all our help! She suddenly thought with enthusiasm but got chocolate frogs instead which were almost as awesome. ”You’re welcome, Professor. Were glad we were able to help. And thanks for the chocolate frog.” Kyra gave Professor Gine a curtsy, scooped up the chocolate frog and left the potions room. Kyra waited only a mere seconds before she pried open the box to the chocolate frog. In her haste she hadn’t gotten ready to keep the frog in check as the box opened and the chocolate frog lept out of the box and onto the floor. Kyra squeaked, dropping the box and stepped forward in an attempt to grab the frog but in her slow movements missed as the frog lept into the air further down the hall. Kyra stumbled and just managed to not fall over, giving up as the frog jumped forward even further.. Oh well… she thought and gave Elsie a smile as to suggest the loss of her chocolate frog wasn’t a bad thing. ”Be careful when you open the box…”
As Kyra and Elsie came back out from the dungeons a red headed boy bowled into the both of them. Books, bags, robes and limbs went up in a flurry. Kyra let out an sudden cry as her shoulder bag spilled to the floor, opening and depositing the contents of her bag onto the floor. Her wand fell from her robe and bounced back down into the dungeons stairs, the small wooden stick clanking off stone steps, the sound becoming fainter the further the wand went. Her vision almost seemed double as she realized what happened and she found herself blinking around, sitting on the floor with her robes a mess. She turned to see if Elsie was alright but the boy who had crashed into them was tangled up in an even worse mess than what Kyra. The boys robes had somehow ended up over his head and he was all flails and wiggling about trying to disentangle himself from Elsie while trying to fix his robes so that he could see. Apologies flowed from him rapidly and he was muttering something about forgetting his potions book back in class.
Clyde still hadn’t tied his shoes as he ran back through the halls of Hogwarts, shouts of students and possibly a perfect telling him not to run faded behind him. He had left his potions book back in the dungeons… First day on his journey to becoming the greatest wizard in the world and he’s already forgetting things. He muttered incoherently as he made a fast turn and ran through another hallway. If he hadn’t sped from Potions so quickly in order to go to the bathroom before Herbology started then he probably wouldn’t have forgotten his text book but his bladder felt like someone had hit him with an inflate spell or something and he spent the second half of potions fidgeting and praying that he wouldn’t pee himself on the first day. Luckily he made it to the bathroom but it wasn’t till then that he noticed the missing book and sent him sprinting back the way he came.
Clyde had noticed the two girls coming out of the archway that led down to the dungeons and he had every intent to dodge around them till he stepped on his untied shoelace. By the time he realized what was happening it was too late as he fell into both of them, knocking them to the floor and being dragged down with them. He didn’t even manage a warning before running into the two classmates he recognized as Kyra and Elsie. The two girls that were helping Professor Gine with the demonstration less than an hour before. As Clyde went down, his vision went black as his robe came up over his head and tangled around his face. He wasn’t sure which girl it was, but he was sure one of them punched him in the face as something hard smacked him in the cheek. He heard one of they cry, and many other shouts and noises from other students and stuttered apologies as fast as he could then remembered that what he was doing. ”I’m sorry! Sorry! Potions book, I forgot it in class. I need.. I can’t see! Argghhhh. Someone cursed me with a blinding spell!”. Clyde tried to get up but was apparently entangled with one of the girls he knocked down.. and was unsure of which girl as he began to grope around, grabbing robe, girl and finally finding floor and managing to pull himself apart from Elsie. After getting himself apart he felt hands tugging at whatever it was around his face and suddenly his vision was filled with light, and pretty blue eyes as the one named Kyra pulled his robe straight and helped him detangle himself.

Elsie frowned but gave a tiny nod. “Those words may work for someone being a brat, but they were down right maggots. What would a teacher say?” Elsie asked with a shrug. She did not really know any mild words, not ones that fit those bullies. Besides, no one ever called her on her speech before. People found it funny when she spoke in slang. They taught her even more. Most of the words she picked up, she can't remember who she first learned it from. She saw though that Kyra was uncomfortable so Elsie added, “I'll try to say them softly or something. Hard to just up and stop... sorry”
Elsie was enjoying helping with the potion, though she disliked being in front of the class. She was starting to think would have fun with making her own potions. Seems simple enough, she thought. It was a precise magic, Elsie liked that. Though she was very curious about what the potion could do at different stages. Would that be a different potion? Were the longer to make potions just further steps after making a simple potion? Though, she did not want to seem like a fool by asking these things so she kept all questions to herself. When she was helping clean things up, Elsie nodded vigorously when Kyra suggested they would just have to show up late. “I hope we never have to do that again...” She said softly.
When they left the classroom with their candy, Elsie watched Kyra open the box and Elsie almost squeaked in surprise; eyes wide with wonder as the chocolate frog hopped about. “It is ALIVE???” She asked; almost in awe. She was prepared to drop everything to try and catch Kyra before she fell, but the girl was able to recover. Elsie frowned as the frog hopped off, so she raced ahead and caught it. Her shoes skidded a bit as she slid to stop; the stone hallway echoed her noise but she held the frog as if it were a trophy. She eyed it and realized this was fully chocolate. What the? She thought, looking it over carefully. “Uh... this is sorta creepy...” She said as she held the frog close. The enchantment was starting to wear off by now. Elsie did not really get why this was a good idea. She realized it was probably not editable now either. “You can have mine...” She said as she eyed the frog again. Yes, I doubt I would enjoy this candy... She thought not sure what to do with the chocolate now.
Elsie was leaving the dungeon when she saw a blur out of the corner of her eye and she was slammed into. She screamed in surprise, then felt the air get knocked out of her as she hit the ground hard; she did not even know what hit her until she heard a boy's voice was apologizing. Elsie tried to scramble free; though she was close to the stairs. Her senses were coming back to her when she felt a hand groping her chest, she shrieked as she shoved the ball of human and robe. She was crimson red in face as she felt horrified and angry. “Oi! Watch ya hands ya crazy plonker.” She said angrily. Catching her breath she realized her panties were being shown as her skirt was bunched up. Anger filled her and she bunched her legs up to kick away the gormless fool that had knocked her over. Then quickly scrambled to fix her skirt and she slid her legs behind her as she stayed bright red in the face. She tried to stand and her arm hissed at her with pain. She felt tears well up in her eyes as she glanced down; she saw blood and she scowled seeing the scrape at her elbow. She felt her bag still hooked on her, pulling at her neck since she had crossed it's strap. The satchel had been tied tight and the items inside should be alright. Though she was worried about the ink and quill. They better not have broken. She thought, though she did not realize her wand too was missing. She saw Kyra helping the clumsy fool with his robes. Elsie stayed sitting, covering her chest protective, embarrassed and she looked around wondering how many people had seen what happened.

"Its just a temporary enchantment. Its not an actual frog." Kyra clarified. She had tried to reach out and stop Elsie from chasing after it but was too late as her hands only caught air instead of the back of the girls robes. "Wait.. you.. don't.. have.. to..." She shouted, faintly with her words trailing off into a whisper and a shake of her head. It was just a chocolate frog.. it wasn't that important and there was no way she'd eat it now after it'd been all over the dusty dungeon floors. When Kyra caught up she noted that Elsie was just looking at it like it was some creepy voodoo and there was already chocolate melting onto her hands. Kyra couldn't help but giggle but she did pluck the chocolate from from Elsie and with a nervous glance in both directions just dropped it back on the floor. "Just.. leave it here.. maybe a Slyth.. slytherin will step on it and slip.." She almost couldn't believe she was wishing ill on another student but just the image of seeing Irma or another one of those Slytherin students slippong on a chocolate frog brought a mischievous grin to her face. "No no. You keep yours. I think I have one back in my trunk. I'll just have to not let it get away next time. Come on, lets make our way towards the green houses."
Kyra didn't go down in as compromising a pose as Elsie as she was knocked backwards and fell on her butt with a squeak, her book bag flying from her shoulder, opening and spilling its contents everywhere. Students that were passing by all stopped and started to laugh or mutter to themselves as they watched the spectacle. It took several seconds for Kyra to come to her senses she watched as Elsie and what looked like another student flailed about and with a kick from Elsie finally managed to disentangle themselves. Some of the people who had gathered around them snickered and pointed and Kyra followed their fingers to see what were looking at. She gasped when she realized they were gaping at her undergarments and Kyra crawled over to Elsie to try to block out at the view from at least some of the students and give time for her to smooth out her skirt. The book that had hit them was still tangled and flailing his arms around, screaming about blind spells or some such nonsense. Kyra glanced at the red faced Elsie to make sure her pride was the worst of her injuries before she crawled over to the boy. "Stop.. moving your arms. Let me.. help you. I said stop moving" She wasn't sure he had heard her but finally she managed to get his robe untangled from his face and she found herself face to face with a kid she recognized this morning. The one who almost face planted and who seemed filled with an overabundance of energy, cept now he was just looking at her with a stupid look on his face. "Are you alright?" Kyra asked but before she could get a answer the boy jumped up and without so much as an apology grabbed his bag and dashed off. Kyra gasped and pouted, crossing her arms over her chest. "Can you believe that!? He didn't even apologize!" Kyra spun around on her knees to face Elsie and just now realized the girl was bleeding. She squeaked and crawled over to her. "Are you hurt? Oh no, that looks really bad.. Should we take you to the... my stuff! Oh no, oh no were gonna be late." Kyra began grabbing her things off the floor while trying to simultaneously fuss over Elsie and the scrapes on her elbow, unsure if they should take her to the nurses wing of the school. "You should get that looked at.. or at least cleaned up. Bathroom.. there's a bathroom. On the way to class, I think. Oh no.. My ink pot..." Kyra's small ink pot had busted, but thankfully on the stone floors and not in her bag. She wasn't sure what to do with it and her hand went to her robes to grab her wand. The least she could do was fix it but she couldn't find her as she started padding her robes. Something in her brain sparked and she could recall hearing the sound of something falling down the stairs. "I think... I think my wand went down the stairs. I'll be right back.. Could you get everything else back in my bag?" Kyra didn't wait for a response as she got up and vanished back into the dungeons. She stepped slowly from step to step and without a wand to use lumos took longer than she expected before she finally found her wand about halfway down the winding steps. She snatched it up and tried her best to hurry back up the steps. The crowd at this point had thinned out and dispersed as everyone was well on their way to classes. "We should get going.. If were to have any chance of getting to class on time.."
Clyde couldn't have been sure which of the two girls he hand tangled himself in worse. The one who had helped him with the robes or the other one who looked more disheveled and very flushed in the face. One of them had told him to mind his hands, but he wasn't exactly sure what his hands were doing or what they had groped. One of them had kicked him, his hip hurting slightly from where Elsie's shoes had connected. "Hey! Who you calling a plonker you dumb dora! Someone.. get these.. robes.." He was about to finish his sentence till someone told him to be quiet and he felt hands tugging at his robes till finally his vision returned and he found himself face to face with Kyra. She's cute... For a moment words left his throat and he just sat there looking like an idiot as his brain played the word cute over and over like it was stuck on repeat. Noticing movement his eyes moved from blue eyes to green eyes. The red head was almost equally as red in the face and Clyde had no clue why. He heard a voice asking him if he was alright and as he focused his attention back to the girl in front of him his eyes caught sight of a text book sprawled on the floor and reminded him of what he was doing before his collision. "I'm gonna be late!?" He suddenly shouted and with almost as much quickness as he went down he was back up again. Clyde glanced his bag and snatched it off the floor and within a split second he was off again. He about turned around to apologize again but one of them had called him a plonker and he thought that was pretty rude so without a further word he vanished into the dungeons, taking the stairs two and three at a time as normal.. not even bothering to tie his shoes. He couldn't be late on the first day of class he just hoped he could get his text book back. Clyde came upon the potions room almost breathless and stuck his head back into the classroom. Professor Gine wasn't anywhere to be seen.. maybe she had gone out of the class for a moment but his book still remained on the desk he was sitting at which was good. Like one of the ghost of Hogwarts, Clyde dashed into his room, snatched up his book and left without being noticed and made his way back towards the stairs and towards the green houses.

Elsie glanced up when Kyra took the chocolate, making a comment about Slytherin slipping. A wicked grin appeared on her face. That was a good idea. She hoped it was Irma who slipped. That would be sweet revenge... Elsie thought then pocketed her box with the chocolate frog and she wiped her hands on the inside of her robe. She was unsure she wanted it, but she would see later if she was hungry enough. She still had that muffin. Still... “Why enchant chocolate?” She asked still a bit unsure the chocolate on the floor was truly 'dead'. She walked around it then went to the staircase as she said, “Yes, we don't want to be late.” Even the treats of the wizarding world was new and strange. Elsie was not liking how much she still had to learn, though on the other hand she liked learning. She mused over that as she walked up the stairs. All the differences she had seen so far. She was really like a muggle... Hmm. there has to be other kids here who are just as lost as I am... She thought. She would have to be more focused on making friends. She could be very charismatic if she wanted to be.
Elsie was examining her scraped elbow when she heard the boy speak. She scowled as she heard him call her a dora. “Who ya callin a dora, ya knob head!” Elsie shot back as she looked at all the scattered stuff and she sighed muttering, “Bloody wazzock...” She wanted to hug her legs and cry but she saw there was already enough attention to this situation. She watched with a glare as the boy ran off, presumably to get his book. When Kyra noticed the blood, Elsie glanced down once more shrugging it off, "I'm ok..." She said and hissed as she slowly stood. If I see that damn muppet again, I will smack him. She thought and whimpered as her robe brushed against her scraped skin. She eyed the items and she patted her robe to ensure her robe still held her wand, when Kyra mentioned her missing wand. In dismay, Elsie realized her wand was missing. Poor wand... She thought with a sigh. She bent down and started to repack Kyra's bag, neatly putting things away avoiding the broken glass of the ink well. Which reminded her to check on her items. She winced again while she slid her bag forward and unbuckled things to search inside. Thank goodness... She thought seeing the ink was secure in the inner pocket. The quills seemed alright too. She slung the bag back around her and gathered the rest of the items she found; putting them neatly into Kyra's bag. “Ah! My wand!” She said relieved finding her wand under Kyra's scales. She picked it up and sparks flew the moment they touched. “Ouch!” She said feeling no pain, it was more out of surprise. She kept hold of it though, not wanting to drop it again, a part of her wanted to explain to the wand what happened though most of her thought that was very silly. She slipped the wand into her robes, thinking ti was only mad at her, then she finished picking up the rest of Kyra's belongings. The silver haired witch came back with her wand as Elsie was dusting off her robes. “This is just not my day...” She was muttering in a grumble. She held out Kyra's bag, “I think I got all of it.” She then checked her elbow again and decided she would have to rinse it out. “Do you know where the bathroom was?” She asked.

"Why.. not?" Kyra replied with a shrug when Elsie asked the point in enchanting chocolate. It was the best reply she could give since she didn't really understand what was weird about enchanting candy. All the wizarding sweet shops did it. Was just the way things were.
"That's good.. Maybe during lunch we can take you to the infirmary just incase." The injury didn't seem life threatening so Kyra went down into the dungeons to search out her wand. By the time she returned, most of her things had been gathered up and placed, in an organized manner, into her bag. Much more organized than they had been earlier... "Thanks.. I think were both having a pretty bad first day. I do hope it improves... And yes, I think I know where the bathroom is. Lets hurry up... if were lucky maybe we can get to class in time.." Kyra led Elsie deeper into Hogwarts towards where she thought a bathroom would be and after a couple wrong turns she finally found one that they could duck into and get that wound cleaned up. Even walking with more haste than she wanted too they were still in the bathroom when the bell sounded that announced the beginning of second period. Kyra groaned and fidgeted, watching as Elsie dried off her elbow. It didn't look nearly as bad with the blood washed away and soon they were off again, though this time not in so much a hurry. They were already late... no point in rushing now.
The Herbology class for first years was being held in Green-House one and sure enough.. Kyra and Elsie showed up late despite Kyra moving faster than she would have liked. The green house was a long narrow room with desks pushed together to create one long row in the center of the room, desks pushed together and filled with plants and dirt. The rest of the class had already entered the warm humid room, morning sunlight streaming through the glass tops of the room, shining down on the various plants and herbs that filled the room. Kyra and Elsie were so late that the other students had already dawned white thick robes that would protect them from the barbs of the nettle that they'd be harvesting today. The students had even pulled out various styled dragonskin gloves in order to handle the lesson. The class was quiet and all eyes moved from the teacher to the late comers, creating a very uncomfortable atmosphere for Kyra and Elsie. She just knew that they were going to already lose more points for their house this morning, so her eyes were glued onto the floor as she hung her head in shame. The worst part was that she could feel her mothers eyes on her and not for the first time in her life, she wished she was an Metamorphmagus so she could change her appearance and pretend she was somebody else.
Professor Hallow could only be described as enchanting as she stood with her arms crossed in front of her, waiting patiently for her daughter to show up... predictably late for her second class of the day. Professor Hallow was just as beautiful as rumors suggested, her hair braided in a French bun that almost seemed to sparkle in the sun. Her eyes were deep pools of sapphire, deeper and more mysterious than the lake of Hogwarts that have stolen the hearts of many a men. She was dressed in long billowing gold and black robes with silver in-laid in mythical and flowery patterns. The robes appeared very impractical for herbology work but the woman moved with a gracefulness that would impress even the women of Beauxbatons Wizarding School, a place she had been invited to attend when she was the very age of her daughter but choosing Hogwarts instead. The class waited patiently in silence, not because she had commanded silence, but because the boys in the class were already awe struck with her. Jaws held open as they openly gaped at her, the veela blood doing in her veins doing its job of keeping at least half the class focused and attentive. Her blood would work less on the girls, but she was such an imposing looking teacher that nobody made so much a sound anyway. Now if only my daughter could learn some punctuality.. She could only hope that the girl didn't show up late for potions also and so while she waited she had the rest of the class, including a boy who had just made it in time, put on white robes that were hung on the side of the room attached to the stone side of the building. Everyone had already taken seats, pulled out text books and gloves and were waiting when she the door finally opened and her daughter and another student finally appeared. Of course, Miss Hallow had made it a point to memorize every student during the sorting session and she wasn't sure she was surprised to see Elsie Nicholais walking in late with her daughter. Markelm didn't exactly have a healthy reputation and it seemed he imposed many of his bad habits on this Elsie. "Miss Nicholais. Miss Hallow. How pleasant it is of you to join us. Miss Nicholais, please take an empty seat. Miss Hallow, come here please."
Dread and doom filled Kyra the second the second her mother spoke. She knew she was done for already and would forever regret this day. She did as she was told as she walked to her mother, feeling like a captured pirate walking the plank before jumping into kraken infested waters. She managed to lift her chin though, and straighten her back and look as diligent as possible as she stepped up to her mother with all eyes on her. In all their haste to get to class... Kyra had completely forgotten about fixing her clothes and her robes from just moments earlier when Clyde had crashed into them... She just now thought of that and swallowed a mighty lump in her throat.
Professor Hallow waited for her daughter to approach before giving her a thorough glance over, walking in a slow circle around the girl before stopping in front of her. Her hands came up so fast that unlookers may have thought the professor was about to strike her daughter but instead she went to Kyra's tie and began adjusting and fiddling it. "Would you just look at you! A right bloody mess. Your first day and you couldn't even see fit to dress properly. Just look at these clothes... and your shoes already have scuff marks. And that hair, such a mess. I'm sure I taught you how to brush, young lady."
Kyra's cheeks blossomed red almost instantly as her mother began fixing her clothes, first adjusting her tie before starting to pat off the dust off her bottom. "Moooother...." she whispered fiercely in embarrassment as she was fussed over. Her mother silenced her with a stern shush and continued to fuss about her clothing and hair, even bringing fourth her wand and using magic to straighten out her hair. She could almost hear the students snickering in their heads as her cheeks burned brightly. Her mother didn't stop at her clothes though as she opened up Kyra's bag and tsk tsk'd, closing the bag with a shake of her head after commenting about the broken ink pot. At least her mother fixed it for her.... She wanted nothing more than to just run away and shrink away to oblivion in some corner when her mother made her spin around with her arms out so she could inspect her again after all the fussing. When it was finally all over and she was dismissed to take a seat. Kyra hung her head and took a step but stopped as her mothers light touch under her chin stalled her and she lifted her chin up knowing her mother wanted her to look proud and dignified despite feeling completely opposite. Her mother even gave her a kiss on the top of her head, in front of the entire class before she let Kyra take a seat. She was sure her cheeks would stay red forever..
Five minutes must have passed as Professor Hallow examined and fussed over her daughter, displeased about her appearance. She could hardly fathom just why the girl had walked into class in such a state! "No no. This will not do. And its Professor Hallow to you young lady. I will not have any of that while were in class. Now hush you." She slipped fourth her wand as she ran a hand through her daughters hair, shaking her head and bringing the wand up, holding it like she would a brush handle. Keeping the wand an inch from Kyra's hair she ran it down along her long locks and with each pass straightened out any loose strands and tangles. After using her wand to undo wrinkles and fixing her cloth she decided to check to see if her daughters bag was just as messy and unclipped it to take a sullen look inside, making tsking noises of displeasure after noticing the ink pot was already broken. With a tap of her wand the pieces of glass formed back into their original shape, though without ink. She could have sworn she taught her daughter to take better care of her things. "Now arms up. Yes, like that. Give me a couple spins. Yes yes do as I say. Let me get a good look at you... *sigh* It'll have to do. Its not perfect but its better than before. Please take a seat now so we can begin class." She shook her head again as Kyra slumped her head and took a step. No no.. that will not do. Professor Hallow reached out and with a gentle touch under the girls chin stopped her. "Head up. I'll not have you looking at the dirty floor now. Yes, like that." Professor Hallow leaned forward over her daughter and gave her a light kiss on the top of her head and dismissed her. That should be an appropriate amount of embarrassment to keep her from being tardy from my class in the future.. she thought with a inward grin. Class had already been stalled enough as she punished her daughter in the most devious way she could think of so she decided to just jump into lessons. She had already introduced herself to the rest of class and an introduction wasn't needed for her own daughter or Elsie. If Kyra and already befriended the young girl then no doubt she was aware that she was the girls mother. "Ten points from Ravenclaw. And now, if you would please open up your textbooks to page 12, we will begin class. Miss Nicholais, Miss Hallow please put on a set of gardening robes and get out your Dragonskin gloves. We'll be working on pulling the Nettles in the pots in front of you today, picking the plants apart and putting the nettles in the jars I have lined out on your desk. Fresh picked nettle is a ingredient to Boils Cure Potion that you will be making in Potions class no doubt soon. Though the plant isn't poisionous, their barbs can be sharp so keep your gloves on at all times. I'll not have any of you going to the infirmary on your first day. Mr. Finnigan, your robes are on backwards... Please fix them.... As you work I'll be going around the class. showing you the proper way to handle the plants and use your tools. Please do not by shy of asking questions and I would have conversations kept to a whisper. Loud voices often makes plants less potent." Professor Hallow finished as she went to her desk to slip on a pair of yellow dragonskin gloves that matched her robes and began going around class to assist the students and make sure they were doing as she instructed.
Kyra took her seat and at the announcement that she and Elsie had caused their house the deduction of ten points she just wanted to smack her face into the desk and die. Maybe there was a spell that would allow her to evaporate into the air forever and be forgotten... Despite feeling worse than bad, she didn't dare hang her head again since she knew he mother would just pile on the humility so she did as instructed, pulling out the text book and opening to page twelve. She slipped off her stool and went to grab some gardener robes, slipping into them while pretending to ignore the glances that the other Ravenclaw kids were throwing her. She slipped her Dragonskin gloves on and began to get to work. Taking apart Nettle was something she'd done in the past and soon she let herself get distracted with deftly cutting up the plant and placing it in jars. She could hear her mother moving around the class, giving encouragement, praise or instructions in her cheery tone and soon enough she felt her mother standing behind her.
"Miss Hallow. I do believe you're already familiar enough with this process. Please go around the class and see to any students who are having difficulty if you would."
Kyra did as she was told but didn't look forward to assisting the other Ravenclaw students who gave her glares of scorn. Lunch couldn't come quick enough.

Elsie shook her head knowing the scrape was not all that bad. Though it burned like a right blighter; harassing her with pain. “Nah, I just need to clean it up.” She said then chuckled wryly. She had the feeling their day would not improve at all. “One can hope...” She murmured then they hurried off to try and find a bathroom. They ended up getting lost, and Elsie's arm was causing tears. Once a bathroom was found, Elsie scraped at the skin trying to remove the drying blood, cleaning the wound she hissed a string of choice words but under her breath, trying to prevent Kyra from hearing them. She heard the bell ring and sighed hanging her head. “That muppet is gonna get a right smack he is...” She said as she finished drying her elbow. Her arm would heal on its own, she knew that much. She wiped any tears that fell through her defenses, and she glanced at her friend. "You could have gone on without me. I am sorry..." She said awkwardly. She was not used to having people defending her. People always thought she was the wild child, they liked her well enough... but when push came to shove, they would stick up for themselves. And that was a part of being human. She did not make many friends at the end of potions class. The Hufflepuff students were a nice enough lot, and Ravenclaw were still grumbling about the points lost from that night. But they were able to talk about simple things. School talk mostly. She spotted two students that seemed to be muggle like. Elsie noted their names as people to speak with later. Gina Lane and Bert Figueroa. It would be nice to have some muggle talks. She had been excited to learn about the wizarding life, Elsie had not realized just how different it really was. So some familiarity would be nice.
They walked towards the greenhouse, both knowing they would be tardy; both wondering what punishment they would get. Elsie scanned Kyra's face for worry to see what they were in for, what Professor Hallow would do. They entered the greenhouse and Elsie wanted to shrink when everyone turned to look at them. All were wearing white robes and gloves, that was when Elsie realized what those gloves were for, and they were upstairs in the dorm. Inwardly groaning, Elsie slowed her step as they walked towards the desks. Elsie got to see Professor Hallow closer than when they were first sorted in houses. Elsie had never seen such an enchanting woman before, she caught herself staring a moment. Elsie had seen many women as she went about life in London, but never had she seen someone so striking. Elsie even found herself hastily adjusting her robes. She understood the need to impress this lady. Blinking in surprise at the woman knowing her name, Elsie mutely nodded and sent an apologetic look to Kyra as she took a seat. She was starting to understand what Kyra's life may be like when Elsie saw the show Professor Hallow put on. It reminded Elsie of this woman who scolded the girls as they walked to and left the school. 'Walk straight, your skirt is too short, act like a lady, stop skipping...' The list went on and on, and Elsie was one of the girls at the top of that woman's list to harass. Elsie was NOT going to look forward to this class. At all. Elsie shrunk once she sat, once again the two seats at the front were empty. Elsie would at least be sitting next to Kyra. She glanced at her classmates and saw the looks. The looks she had been avoiding all morning. Even some from Griffindor looked at her annoyed. Like she was a pest.
Biting the side of her cheek, Elsie refrained from defending her friend; shooting icy glares at the damn muppet that caused all of this. TEN POINTS? Elsie thought, muffling her squeak as she hung her head; letting it thump against the desk a moment. That is a total of ten points from me alone. Ohhh everyone is going to hate me..... She thought with a soft sigh. She sat up trying to put on a brave face. She felt like wanting to cry, or attack the first person that teased her. Elsie was wanting to restart the whole day. She did not dare look at her classmates now. She knew they would be giving her cruel looks. Poor Kyra though. Having to be in front of everyone. There was nothing she could do though. Elsie hoped she would make up for this, though she felt this whole day was just rotten. I don't even have my gloves... She thought wondering if that would that get her in more trouble while she looked around for the gardening robes. “I'm sorry... and don't mind the others. They will have their share of points lost over the year.” Elsie said to Kyra once her friend sat, the poor girl was looking pale and numb, blushing from humiliation. There were no words, but she lightly placed her hand on Kyra's shoulder trying to show her support. She knew how horrified she would be if Markelm did anything even remotely like that. Taking out her herbology book, Elsie glanced at the plants before them. Following Kyra and getting the white gardening robe; she mimicked the girl and tried to act like she knew what she was doing when she put it on. Once back at their desk, Elsie glared at the plant wondering just how sharp it really was. She had tough hands, so maybe... She thought as she tried to do it without gloves. She took the clippers and tried to cut the branches like it showed in the book and she hissed as the plant ripped into her hand. Well, ok. Gloves are definitely needed... She thought blushing, hoping no one noticed. She watched Kyra quickly complete the task, and was about to ask to borrow her gloves when Professor Hallow slipped behind them. Elsie jumped ever so slightly before she cleared her throat and said in a soft voice, “I forgot my gloves...”She watched poor Kyra walk off to help other students having a hard time, Elsie was unsure what to say to ease her friend's discomfort. At lunch, Elsie would try to cheer her friend up. Thinking of that, Elsie had to hide her temper. She would only cause more problems for everyone if she spoke her mind. She instead glanced at the Professor and tried to look innocent.
Taylor Rowe was at the back of the class hearing the soft sniggering comments of the other students. He actually winced when the Professor fussed over her daughter, obviously showing the whole class that if she was willing to do that to her own daughter; everyone else was fair game. The two girls who showed up late had cost their house ten points, and their house already lost five during the night. While that was good for his house, Griffindor. It did seem a bit harsh. The two girls did not seem like troublemakers, so Taylor felt bad for them. His father had always told him to stick up for the little guy. Those two girls needed to be protected. That was a mans job after all. He thought as he sat up tall when the Professor started walking about. He slowly started pulling apart the plant, glancing at his book, then at the other students. He was glad he read all the letters he got. The students had been told what items they needed to bring on their first day. Though; glancing around, Taylor noticed there were two students who forgot their gloves. One happened to be the little redhead that had showed up late. Poor kid. He thought, not really getting the fact he was the same age as her.
Off on the other side of the room sitting as tall as she can in the chair, little Thea Hedman, a tiny Griffindor; was trying to work on the plant having no gloves. The person sitting next to her ignored her, like most people did. She was a quiet girl, rarely spoke up, and she accepted no immediately when she tried to be brave and ask to borrow some gloves from a classmate. Thea ignored her bloody hands as she kept the pain to herself while she slowly filled the jar, cutting as best as she could. She did not like any attention brought to her, and had already fainted once today when someone scared her with a prank. Little Thea knew people assumed she was not supposed to be here; let alone in the Griffindor house. But she also knew her family had a strong magic line. She was a witch, and a proper good one. She just had to prove herself.

The quiet bathroom did little to hide the string of curse words that Elsie hissed from her lips as she scraped and washed the boo boo’s on her elbow. Kyra didn’t say anything, doing her best to ignore them and she didn’t want to nag at Elsie especially since they both seemed to be having a rough first day. The last thing she wanted was for any of those bad words to be directed toward her. She did kinda feel sorry for Clyde… well, not that sorry for him. It was his fault that the two of them were in this situation but she felt he’d get what’s coming to him if Elsie ever managed to corner the boy. Kyra both hoped she’d give him a bit of a smack but also knew that it could potentially get them into worse trouble if she indeed did. When Kyra noticed the tears falling down the girls cheeks she produced a silver handkerchief from within her robes and handed it to her. ”Its fine… Maybe my mother will go easy on us if there’s two people to share the punishment. She’ll probably just give us detention or something.” She replied, but didn’t even convince herself on how her mother would react to two of her students, one her own daughter, being tardy to her class. I kinda have to use the bathroom anyway..” She finished sheepishly and vanished into a stall to do her business before both of them set off to their doom.
Kyra did her best to keep the worry from her face but she was never very good at concealing her emotions when nervous or scared as she walked and chewed on her bottom lip, her fingers opening and closing around the fabric of her robes as her hands tried distracting themselves. She knew the punishment she’d receive would have been harsher then Elsie’s. Kyra knew that her mother couldn’t treat her with leniency so she could understand why her mother was embarrassing her in front of the entire class, but that didn’t make it any easier or less painful. She managed to keep herself from crying at least after it was all said and done and she was allowed to take a seat and was thankful that she was at least allowed to sit next to Elsie, even if it was at the front of the class. She wouldn’t have been at all surprised if her mother had forced her and another student to switch seats just to put her next to someone she was less familiar with. Kyra did note that their little mother/daughter display in front of the class did seem to straighten peoples posture and make people take better notice of their appearances. Her mother was far too clever… Kyra merely nodded when Elsie spoke to her and taking deep but quiet breaths was all she seemed able to do in order to keep herself stable but after a minute or so she finally got her emotions under control. She followed Elsies eyes to where she was throwing her icy glares and found herself sending eye daggers at Clyde also. Her cheeks were still red, but now it was part shame and part anger that brought fourth the color. She too found herself thinking of revenge, even if it was unlady like.
Kyra could see that Elsie was unfamiliar with wearing gardener robes, as were several other muggle born wizards in the class. She helped Elsie get them on and adjusted correctly before the two of them returned to their seats. Kyra focused her attention on the plants until her mother appeared behind her and told her to assist the other students in class. ”Yes, Professor.” she replied immediately, giving Elsie a sympathetic glance before she turned and started walking along the row of desk. Several students seemed to be taking to the task with ease, but others still struggled with either the proper way of pulling the plants apart or with the sharp barbs sticking to their gloves. Kyra couldn’t help but be aware of the vibes the other Ravenclaw students were giving off whenever she approached one of her house mates. One of them even whispered that they needed no help despite the fact that their nettle plant had gotten completely attached to their white robes and he was having a hell of a time pulling the barbs out. Kyra huffed and left him alone before moving onto the next student. A kid who wasn’t even holding her sheers the right way… After giving that kid a basic lesson on how to holding cutting sheers she moved further down along the row of students. She glanced down several desks to where Clyde was and took a small bit of satisfaction in watching him make a botchery of the task at hand. The way he handled his plant was all wrong and as she approached she watched as he turned to her, expecting help. Kyra just blew right past him, not even making eye contact as she went to help the kid next to him. A brown haired boy from Gryffndor.
”I’m positive your class schedule lists the required tools for every class, Miss Nicholais. I will lend you a spare pair of gloves for just today, but..” Miss Hallow paused and then raised her voice so the rest of the class could hear. ”If any student were to show up to class ill prepared from this point on, then I’ll be forced to deduct 5 points from their house. There is no good excuse for not being prepared.. She announced as she moved off to her desk to retrieve a old worn pair of dragonskin gloves. She returned and laid them in front of Elsie but didn’t leave. ”Show me your hands please.” she commanded and once Elsie did so Professor Hallow took a hold of them and examined the small cuts with a displeased shake of her hand. She slid her wand out from her robe and telling Elsie to hold still as she waved the wand over the girls cuts, saying Episkey. The cuts mended themselves and Professor Hollow moved away from the girl, walking in a slow circuit opposite that of her daughter. It wasn’t long before she was standing over the short for her age Gryffndor girl who had even worse and numerous cuts on her hand. Miss hedman was a much more meek girl than perhaps even some of the children in Hufflepuff, or that was the impression the girl now in front of her gave off. She slipped off her own black and yellow dragonskin gloves and laid them down in front of her. ”If you forget your gloves then please do not keep quiet. There are many dangerous and venomous plants in these green houses. It is always better to be safe than sorry.” she told the girl, in a much quieter and sweeter tone than the one she had used when speaking to Elsie and Kyra or when giving directions to the class as a whole. Professor Hallow slipped her wand out once more and touched the tip of it to the cuts on the girls hands to heal the small cuts before putting the wand away again and walking away. The students seemed to be handling the task well enough at this point so Professor Hallow went to her desk and sat down, pulling out parchment and quill to began taking notes about her students. When the class was coming towards an end she stood up to get the attention of the class. ”When the bell rings, close your jars of nettle and place them on my desk on my way out, and do not forget to write your name on the labels on the lids of the jars. Before next class you are all required to read through the first three chapters of your textbooks.” She announced and sat back down.
Clyde was all smiles during the class. Firstly he had managed to return from the dungeons after successfully getting his book back AND he made it to Herbology on time! Good start to his first day he figured, even after his little incident in the hallways with the girls named Kyra and Elsie. Nothing could put a damper on his mood, even after Professor Hallow told him he had put his robe on backwards. He, along with several other students, chuckled and fixed his robes before he pulled out a worn second hand set of dragonskin gloves that had been patched in several places. The red headed boy dove head first into the task with ferocious concentration, intent on becoming the best in the class. It’d only take one glance from another student to realize Clyde wasn’t very gifted with dealing with plants. Barbs and leaves seemed to be strewn all over his desk as he tried as hard as he could to follow the directions in the book but it just didn’t seem to be going well. No wonder too with how hard he handled the plants instead of being gentle. Clyde glanced up and saw the professors daughter making her way toward him. Ah! Great! I’ll just ask her to give me some help and tips!” he thought cheerfully but didn’t get a chance to as the girl stepped past him and ignored his glances, acting almost as if he didn’t even exist. How rude.. he thought to himself, completely oblivious. Clyde just shrugged and continued hacking away at his plant. At one point he glanced up and with a casual glance around the room caught another girl giving him the meanest of looks. He quickly glanced away though and pretended to have not seen her looking his way. I think.. I think she’s mad at me.. he finally realized even though he just considered the incident earlier to be an accident..
Soon the bell announcing the end of class rang through the halls and students began putting away their books and gloves. Stripping themselves of the work robes and placing them back on hooks. Professor Hallow sat behind her desk and had earlier put on a pair of reading spectacles as she jotted notes, dipping her quill into ink pot and making clean crisp notes on a long sheet of parchment. Students were placing their jars of nettle on the desk as the class slowly shuffled out of the door and without looking up Professor Hallow spoke again to Kyra and Elsie. ”Miss Hallow and Miss Nicholais. A moment please if you would.” Despite saying please, it was more a command than a request and she waited as the rest of the class filtered out. ”And Mr. Finnigan. Your shoe. Please make sure you tie your laces before next class.. she added in just as the red headed boy was leaving class. He gave them a sheepish green before bounding off towards the great hall and tasty food that awaited. The short Gryffndor girl returned the gloves also and departed, leaving just three in the room. Veronica Hallow stood up and in a slow, delicate but deliberate movement removed her glasses, folded them and placed them on the desk. ”I trust you’ll be more punctual from this point onward? Miss Nicholais, please remember to come to class prepared or I’ll have to have a word with Professor Nicholais. And believe me, he’s a busy enough man as it is already. I don’t think he needs to be bothered to take time out of his day to lecture his daughter.” Professor Hallow would silence both of them with a wave of her hand if either tried to give an excuse for their tardiness today and reply ”There is no reasonable excuse. I’ll not hear it.” She gave a nod towards the door and addressed Elsie. ”You’re free to go. I’d like to have a private word with my daughter and I’ll send her onto the great hall when I’m finished.” She dismissed Elsie and followed her to the doors, closing them after the girl had left.
Kyra had been able to keep her composure together during class but as she watched her friend leave, and her mother close the doors behind her she couldn’t keep the shame and guilt away as tears formed up in her eyes and began falling down her cheeks. She managed to stay standing, even if shakily as her lips trembled. ”I’m so sor .. sorry, Mother.” she choked out and dropped her eyes to the floor and saw the bottoms of her mothers robes come into view as her mother wrapped her arms around her in a motherly embrace. Kyra clutched her mothers robes as more tears came, her ears being filled with soft calming whispers. She always envied her mothers ability to know when to be stern and when to be gentle.
Several minutes must have gone by before Kyra crept out of the Herbology room. Her eyes were still red and puffy and she still felt bloody terrible but less burdened with shame and guilt.

Elsie accepted the handkerchief with muted surprise as she wiped the tears away. She blushed as she handed it back, really unsure about anything proper. She felt like she lived on the streets, rather than a proper member of society. Ok, a young member of society. But dangit, I know how to be civil... Elsie thought, though she really was clueless; so she admitted. “Uh, do I have it washed or...... …... I never used one before...” She blushed slightly not really wanting to admit how little she knew about Kyra's world. Let alone the wizardling world. Once that was dealt with, Elsie frowned at the thought of detention. “He should be punished. It was his bloody fault.” She said with a scowl, while she waited for Kyra.
As Elsie watched Kyra, dread filled her with each step they took towards class. The evil thoughts sent towards the muppet made her feel better, though Elsie was furious they will get into trouble for something someone else did. She proudly noted though that Kyra seemed to have a little dark side too, Elsie recognized that look all too well. Elsie remembered their first talk on the train and a wicked thought came to mind. They had much to talk about that lunch break. Elsie murmured a thank you under her breath when Kyra helped her figure out the garden robes, she did not fail like a bumbling idiot. For that she was thankful.
When Professor Hallow scolded her, Elsie blushed again, but held a defiant look on her face. It was not her fault she was never given that letter. Though she was thankful she would be lent gloves. Five point reduction next time? Elsie thought as she made a mental note to demand Markelm give her that letter. Or at least have Kyra show her copy. Elsie was not going to have another bad day if she could help it. Blinking when asked to hold out her hands, she obeyed and was surprised when her hands were examined. The cuts were nothing, she would hardly pay them any notice but she was not expecting the magic. She had never been healed by magic before, that she remembers, and it also gave her a different opinion of the Professor. Elsie looked at her hand and said, “Thanks.” In a distracted tone while she wondered how the healing magic worked. Eying her hands once more before she slipped on the gloves then she turned to read the passage a few times showing the proper way to pick apart the nettle plant. Hmm, seems easy enough... Elsie thought as she pinched the leaf and cut the stem, then dropped it in the jar. There were a few times her impatient nature got the leaf stuck to the gloves, but all in all; Elsie was making good headway and she finished harvesting the plant before some of the students who started earlier than she did. She glanced at Kyra a few times, if they caught eyes she sent a small supporting smile. She hid her tiny smirk when she saw Kyra completely skipped over the muppet that caused their mess. Elsie had a few other choice words but for today at least she was trying to censor. Even in her head. She happened to glance up when the boy was looking at her direction and she sent him an angry look before she went back to the plant.
Elsie took off the gloves and sealed the jar; marking her name in beautiful curvy calligraphy. Something she learned in school and impressed everyone with. She liked the praise, so she tried even harder and she became the best of the class. In the muggle world anyway. She was unsure what the other students did for learning penmanship in the wizarding world. The bell soon rang and Elsie scooped her book off the table and she placed it in her bag. Elsie stood and shouldered her bag, then walked over placing the jar next to the borrowed gloves; making sure the gloves were neatly placed on top of each other. Her thumb complained when a spare barb poked her, she simply tried to pinch it out with her nails said nothing as she turned to leave; but she heard Professor Hallow ask her to stay a moment with Kyra. Elsie also noted the muppet's last name and made sure to remember it. He would pay. She thought, taking a side glance at the tiny Griffindor who brought up the Professor's gloves. Elsie had noticed the girl had gotten to borrow the Professor's gloves; without a spectacle from the professor. Though to be fair, the girl looked like she never had stood up for herself in her life. In the back of Elsie's mind, she put another positive point on the Professor's likability list.
Thea was close to tears when she noticed the Professor was standing beside her. She blushed and stammered when handed the gloves. In a soft whisper; “Thank you Professor Hallow!” She nodded, greatly ashamed that she had forgotten her gloves. She had been bullied by the other girls in the dorm, and she just wanted to get out of there while everyone was changing and getting ready for class. “I am so sorry. I will triple check before I come next time...” She said, still in a quiet voice. Hardly anyone could hear her if they were not listening. Thea felt the warm glow of healing magic and she smiled warmly. She eased on the gloves and carefully went back to trying to trim the leaves needed. She said nothing as she struggled with trying to cut the leaves; she was very gentle with the plant, just clumsy. At the end of the session, Thea whispered another thank you as she placed the gloves on the table, next to her warped jar of nettle leaves. The top was on lopsided. It had gotten stuck and she was too scared to ask for help. Her tiny hands were unable to fix what she had somehow done, so she left it. She blushed as she quickly grabbed her bags and scooted out of the class.
Elsie sat back on her heels nervously as she tilted a bit wondering what other punishments they would be getting, waiting for the class to leave. When Professor Hallow threatened to speak with Markelm, Elsie grew pale. She had already screwed things up that morning and she was unsure if she would survive with him being disappointed in her again. And this time it wasn’t even her own fault. She was still livid the boy that knocked them over, caused all this mess; got no punishment... but Elsie also knew her temper. Rather than blurting out an explanation, though she was tempted to she was hushed. So she bit the side of her cheek in annoyance but forced herself to say nothing but a “Yes Ma'am...” though if the teacher had good hearing, she may have heard Elsie mumble, “So long as that damn muppet doesn’t knock us over again....” Elsie cleared her throat as she said clearly, “My papers with the list were lost in the packing. All that survived was the second page, the class schedule. Please don't bother Professor Nicholias, it was my fault.” She said with a straight face, completely lying, and completely taking the blame. When she was dismissed, Elsie glanced at Kyra but obeyed and left; though she waited in the hallway. Refusing to leave her friend. Elsie stood, leaning back on her shoes and clomping down softly as she leaned forward. Her teachers from her other school had always told her she would ruin her shoes doing that, but it was something Elsie always did. How can someone stop doing something they always did?
Time passed and Elsie grew worried, but she waited until Kyra left the class; red in the face. “Are you ok? Did you get detention? I should have insisted you just went to class after that bloody muppet bollocks everything up. I could have even waited until after herbology to clean the scrape.” Elsie started to ramble off nervously. She had finally made a friend; and she was making a mess of things. Swearing, getting them late... though it was that damn muppet... She thought as she quickly corrected that blame. Elsie sighed as she calmed down from the mess of worry in her head and she said, “I think we deserve some chocolate during lunch. Don't you?” She then checked Kyra's face and frowned. Did the Professor make her cry? Shooting daggers with a glare at the door, Elsie had a thought to storm in there and explain what happened. How it was not Kyra's fault at all. “Well, come on then, though I am not looking forward to sitting with the rest of our house... Ah well. Want some muffin?” Elsie asked as she took out the muffin from breakfast, it was slightly smashed but eatable. She took out the chocolate frog box from her pocket as well and just shook the crumbs out of her pocket and broke off pieces, eying the chocolate frog box as she put it back in her pocket. Creepy candy is creepy... She thought, unable to understand the need to animate chocolate. Whether Kyra accepted muffin or not, the two girls started to head towards the main hall.
Taylor was waiting in the hallway of the main hall and he quickly adjusted his robes while he waited for the two girls to leave herbology class. He only guessed that they would come this way, but he felt it would appear stalker like to wait just outside the class so he would “just happen to run into them” on the way to lunch. The teacher seemed to want to scold them again, so Taylor thought those two girls would be needing support right about now. As he waited, his stomach growled smelling the good foods so close to him. He paused then slipped in the room to grab some food. He would just watch the door. Say hi that way.
Elsie had some time to spare until Flying class so she wanted to research ferrets in the library. See what they ate before she brought up anything for Pyxis. Elsie also wanted to write Markelm a letter, maybe even sneak a visit, if he was home. Just to see if he had a cage for Pyx. Elsie nibbled on the muffin that was left as the two walked in silence. Uncomfortable with silence though, Elsie started to talk about the people she knew in London. Mentioning a few of the concerts at the park that was near her school. She then asked what music was like in the wizarding world. The two girls chatted while they walked to the great hall, entering the hallway as Elsie giggled wondering how anyone can teach a frog to sing.

Kyra took the handkerchief back and it disappeared into one of the many pockets of her robes as she shook her head, long silver hair waving about with the motion. She couldn’t help crack a smile at how uncertain Elsie was when it came to things that seemed natural and every day to Kyra. ”Don’t worry about it. I’ll have it washed with my other things when the house-elves do laundry.”
Veronica Hallow was pleased at how the class went, even if several students came ill-prepared. She made notations on which students she felt would excel, and which ones were hopeless so that in future classes when she grouped students in pairs, 3’s, or 4’s she’d be able to put those who needed the most help with those who could provide it. It would take a while longer to pin point personalities but Gryffndor and Ravenclaw students, at least in her view, seemed to get along well enough unlike house Slytherin with every other house. She was thankful she wouldn’t have that tension to deal with in this class and her own Hufflepuff students, being in such close proximity with Slytherin knew how to deal with them well enough. The class soon ended, jars piled up and students left leaving behind just the two whom she told to stay. Veronica indeed had good hearing and caught mumbles from the red-head. A temper as fiery as her hair, it would seem. she remarked but didn’t scold the girl for her quiet words. Veronica was pleased that the girl at least took responsibility for being ill prepared instead of trying to pawn it off on somebody or someone else. She knew well enough the reputation that Professor Nicholais had and wouldn’t doubt that he carried some of the blame but Veronica had no way of proving or disproving her story about misplacing the papers that contained the list of required items to bring to class. Veronica dismissed Elsie and turned her attention. She was proud that Kyra had kept her composure all throughout class, knowing all that guilt and shame had boiled and grown throughout class. Seeing tears brought a pang of guilt in her chest but she knew that she had to be hard on her daughter in front of others. Once alone though, she practiced a much softer touch, wrapping her up in a motherly embrace to calm her.
Kyra came out of the room, wiping the last remains of tears from her eyes but feeling less burdened by guilt than before. Kyra wasn’t expecting Elsie to have waited for her in the hallway and turned her face away to try to hide the fact that she had been crying but it was obviously too late as Elsie started questioning her. ”I’m fine.. And no, no detention. And you shouldn’t be concerned about me, I promise I’m fine. I actually feel much better… even if I don’t look it.” Kyra hoped that was enough to get Elsie to stop rambling and calm down, nodding her agreement about the chocolate. Some sweets would most definitely do her some good as she started to walk with her towards the great hall and the feast that awaited them. She once again waved away offer of a muffin.. Muffins were good, but her face made a strange look at the fact that Elsie had been keeping one in her robes. ”Umm.. no thanks. I’m sure Pyx will enjoy the muffin more than I. Kyra was glad when Elsie began making small random conversation and she listened as the girl explained more about her life living as a pseudo muggle. She had never heard much in the way of muggle music before but it seemed interesting and made a note to some day go out and explore this other unfamiliar world. Kyra tried her best to explain about the singing frog choirs and other types of wizard music but she found it hard to accurately describe something that was so normal to her to somebody who had little to no knowledge of it. ”You’ll just have to experience it yourself..” she finally muttered in defeat, realizing that perhaps.. singing frogs actually was kind of a strange concept. She vaguely wondered who originally came up with that idea. Different topics came and went as they walked the stone halls of Hogwarts amidst a mass of students who were also heading toward the great halls or to their houses commons room or maybe even outside to spend the rest of the day under a nice shady tree. The weather was much warmer today than it had been on the night before, the sun beaming brightly and winds bringing a gentle calm breeze.
Entering the great hall wasn’t nearly as bad as she thought it would be. There were indeed Ravenclaw eyes upon them, but only few as most students were too occupied trying to fill their stomachs or chatting amongst friends. She didn’t even dare look at the Slytherin table though, knowing that the mocking laughter she heard coming from that side of the room was most likely directed towards the Ravenclaw table. Several teachers were in attendance also but Kyra did note her mother wasn’t there. Probably still making notes in the herbology room or tending to other matters. Kyra didn’t notice the eyes of Taylor on the two of them as she led Elsie to the long table and sat down. It was only after seeing all the food and smelling it, that she realized she was hungry. It didn’t help that she had eaten a light breakfast. ”We’ve got several free hours before flight practice. Is there anything you want to do to pass the time?” she asked Elsie as she began piling food onto a plate.
Clyde was well into stuffing his face with food when he took note of the two girls from Herbology and the hallway incident, enter the great hall. He grabbed up his plate of food and ended the conversation he was having (more of a one sided conversation) with a blonde girl with bouncy curls. Clyde was still feeling pretty uppity and positive as he spun away from where he was sitting and walked further down the table with every intention to plop down right next to the red head girl, Elsie. Right as he was coming up on them though a brown hair Gryffndor boy slipped in and sat down in his spot. With food still in his mouth, Clyde couldn’t get in a word of protest. He glared at the boy, wondering why a Gryffndor kid was sitting at his Ravenclaw table but decided to just retreat for now. He spun and headed back to where he was sitting but noticed that spot was taken also. Oh well..he thought. The blonde girl wasn’t much of a talker, or wasn’t talking to him much anyway. Everyone else seemed to be absorbed in their food or own conversations so he just took his plate of food to a spot at the very end of the table where some other quiet nervous looking first years were seated and plopped down to continue eating. Maybe if he caught Elsie and Kyra leaving he’d follow them out. They seemed like interesting girls and surely wouldn’t blow him off.
