She laughed a bit, purring as she did, all but skipping along behind her. "I think we're both chasing jeggets that haven't yet been born," she said with a laugh. "We have to," her words were cut off as pain and fear ripped through her. She projected, unable to stop. Her legs buckled under her, but she was no longer aware of her body, save for the fact that it was in pain, her mind was pulled away else where, though memories, painful painful memories.
She felt herself trapped in someone else's mind, terrified, hurting, scared enough to throw herself.... she felt herself falling, falling falling. She felt herself slamming into the water. Then drowning. She grabbed for him desperately, reflexively, even as the touch of him hurt. She felt every bristle of her fur as though it were rubbing against the lie. her pelt hurt, she felt her hair pull against her scalp. Every blade of grass felt as though it cut her. The sheath of her blade gripped her leg like a vice. She yowled in pain and the sound of her own cry was like a star-ship crashing through her head. the tears that escaped her eyes were like acid. She gasped and her heart felt as though it were trying to escape, her bones scraped, her lungs threatened to burst. The bag on her shoulder was like lifting an anvil using barbed wire straps.
She knew it was all in her head. She knew it, she knew it, she knew she was standing there with him, but the pain that filled her took over everything.

Hadrian was with her instantly, trying to share her mind and help her block out the terrible pain. He wrapped his arms around her to hold her up, the crystal she'd handed him still in his palm. He was projecting calm to her.
"Shh...be calm my kitten. Whatever it is is not here. You are with me..."
He was soothingly stroking her mane of hair, hands as gentle as possible. He was afraid of breaking her in this moment. "Focus on me. Hear me and push the other away."

She tried to grasp onto his mind. She brushed it before she was pulled mentally away again. She floated, ripped free from her own head, even as her body clung and burned.
His mind would be pulled by the contact along with hers. They'd both see what looked like her body somewhere else. Dressed in a long black tunic with grey and purple bands on the sleeves. Her fur was coated in a thin rime, and she was laid out as if dead. A Sholan woman was curled beside the bed, clinging to her hand, keeping it pressed to her head, whispering over and over something in Sholan.
"Mother...." she whispered, gasping in pain.
The woman's head snapped up, she looked right at them, right through them. Then his life mate shook her head as they were pulled closer to the stiff body. "no... not yet," she whispered, and he'd probably be able to tell she wasn't aware that he was there with her mentally. "I can't go back yet," she whispered. "He needs me.... I..." she gasped as she was slammed back into her body, the one that was in his arms, as he was slammed back into her own. She gasped, but the pain was just echos of the pain, remembered pain.
Trembling, she clung to him, trying to keep down her lunch in the after effects.

"What was that," Hadrian demanded. He was confused but mostly scared for her. "You will explain that. And why it's hurting you. I will not let you be hurt any more."

She coughed a bit, then if he let her would sink to the ground. Otherwise he'd wind up holding her up. She closed her eyes, her ears flickering weakly. "The drugs," she whimpered. "Too strong. But..." she tried to put some bone back into her legs. She swallowed and closed her eyes. she recited the litanies until her trembling stopped. She stood if she was free to do so. "The dose in my system... This should be done within the next 48 hours. Hopefully sooner, a week at worst," she said, her voice sounding stronger again.

"The drugs end now. I will push them out of your system." He didn't let her down. Instead, he hoisted her up bridal style. "You are in no shape to watch my body for me while I do this. And I will need blood...so we will have to make a pit stop on our way home. Turn your head into my chest and close your eyes. Do not watch. You will be sick should you not listen to me in this."

she nuzzled her nose into his chest. "I'll be fine," she assured him. "It will wear off on its own. I'll be fine, I promise," she tried to calm him down. "There is no need to fret or do all of that," she said softly. "I just need to work out, keeping my circulation flowing helps circulate it out of my system faster. You don't need to fuss so," she said softly. She nipped gently at his earlobe.

Hadrian growled, his eyes shifting, the dark predator in him surfacing. "I must do these things. You are mine to take care of. Your safety, health, and happiness are mine to guarantee. And I must do so or die trying." He started moving then, using his preternatural speed.
He gently sat her down next to a tree. "Wait here. There is prey about half a mile away. I will feed and be right back. Do not go anywhere." He was gone, melting into the woods as if he were a part of them. His prey was easy. A human couple. He drank from both generously and implanted memories of a good time had with one another.

She sighed while he was gone and dug through her bag. She'd rather a shower before pulling on her tunic, but she didn't fancy wandering around on Earth without clothing. She knew too well the nudity taboos of humans. So while he was gone, she dressed, pulling on her slim tunic, closing the seals up the front. It had short sleeves, edged in deep purple and soft grey. It was split paneled, showing off her long furred legs. Then she pulled out her jewelry, first her torc, then the wide cuff she wore on her wrist.
That done, she sank down to her bag again and pulled on her weapons belt. The sword settled on one hip, and her energy pistol rested against her other hip. She leaned back against the tree and sighed a bit. She felt like herself again.
When he returned, she'd be sitting cross legged at the base of the tree, sword resting across her hands which were in her lap. She seemed utterly still, but her mind was open, and she sensed him returning, sensing anyone or anything that approached.

He was back as quickly as he'd gone. "You're dressed. I like you better naked." He offered her his hand again. "I'll carry you the rest of the way. We will arrive faster that way. And I can begin pushing this poison from your system sooner."

She rolled her eyes a bit at him, a very human affectation she had picked up from one of her great aunts, and she took his hand, rising as she sheathed her sword. "That if nothing else would have told me you were not simply a talented human," she said in a tone that would have been tart if her eyes were not so amused. Her tail twitched. "I really can walk though," she added as she knelt to pick up her bag.

"If you feel you must walk...then I suppose I should let you." He huffed, "Though if you stumble, I'll pick you up again."
"I'm not human," Hadrian was beginning to get tired of her thinking of him as such. "I've told you repeatedly that I'm Carpathian. The only thing human about me is my appearance. And that is only because being the panther would not be conducive at this time." The beast had gone with her feeling better, but his eyes still flashed fire. "I am more animal than man. To treat me as a human is dangerous. We do not live by human rules. We cannot live by human rules."

"I intended no slight," she said softly. "To my eyes you appear human, yes. But I do not know what being a Carpathian entails. I suppose I will hear about it at home for not handling this better, but I never thought to train for first contact. It's not in me," she said simply. "I am En'Shalla, myself. We too are apart from the society that nominally rules our planet. We have our own talents and abilities, and our own rules, as theirs simply do not fit. We are En'Shalla, and as such, we are sometimes feared, sometimes respected, sometimes envied, but often avoided by all but the brave." she dropped her lower jaw in a bit of a grin. "Of course, that means that we only get the best of the best coming to us as potential mates," she said with a deep rumbling purr.

His unrest disappeared with her apology. "I will take that as a compliment. Though there is no potential to it. I am your mate."
Hadrian reached for her paw to hold it as they walked. I will teach you what it means to be Carpathian. And we will combine our rules to make ones that fit for us. I do not think that rules are yet written for a pair like us."

"Of our races, we are the new first pair," she said with amusement. "It will be interesting to see the reactions of everyone back home when I tell them all about you," she said, jaw staying open. She put her hand into his. "I will need a temple soon, though," she cautioned. "But we also have much to discuss, and much to prepare for. We have not yet Leska linked, but I am quite certain we will. And you mentioned your people. We will have to figure out why out races did not meat when in my past, your future, my people came to this planet. Many telepaths came when the head of AlRel at the time got his fir puffed over Earth declaring that there were no telepathic humans. Grandfather says that was a sight to behold." the drop of her jaw got deeper between words, and her purr rumbled more loudly. She was practically skipping as she went. Then she blinked and the jaw dropped more. OH! she sent mentally. Do you know how to use a sword? I bet you'd be fantastic fun to spar against!
