⊰aerykah - sampson⊱
Aerykah was in the dining hall when she felt the tremors. She, Yani, Averill and Gilrin were about to pull the largest prank that Aery had ever concocted when the ground ******** shook. Upon hearing Soulstone's announcement, she lead them to the Oak.

Her throat was dry and scratched and her eyes red and all of a sudden something noxious hit her.
Wait... Soulstone said that there was something noxious at the ******** MY HAIR DYE!!" Aery shouted to nobody in particular, realizing now that she was the cause of probably one too many explosions. Her collection of colours lingered around two dozen now... and they were very flammable.

Upon arriving at the Oak, she regained her composure, making a silent tribute to her dye, as she took a quick count of who was there. Gage, Din, Viv--, not Vivian, there's the two newbies, Casimir and Icarus... Yeah, that's everyone. Phew.

Catching notice of the Headmaster, Aery went and had a brief conversation with him, and turned to look over at Naomi, resting a hand on her shoulder in greeting.
"Looks like we're getting a sleepover after all, huh."

                                  > Not a scratch, was in the library, 5 minutes.

Ian pocketed his phone. Well, he reflected as he walked quickly across the grounds with a controller in one hand and a laptop tucked under his arm, at least I wasn't in the commons.

The moment orange flames started licking at the windows, Ian had decided to get the hell out of the library. Last he had seen, the fire hadn't made it past the stone walls, which was good, but that still didn't change the fact that there was apparently a dragon on the loose. Today was not a good day for Merlin at all.

Setting Socket to track, Ian pocketed the controller and picked up the pace. It would be much less hassle if he checked in with Naomi and ensured his housemates that he was alive and kicking. Not that Nina would be pleased - Ian was pretty sure she was still annoyed at him for telling her off the other day.

What a troublesome situation, Ian thought as the Oak came into view. I'm not going to get any work done today, am I? The very thought gave him a headache, but he could worry about it later. It didn't take him very long to spot Nina, the mouse that she was, and he waved to get her attention.

Naomi watched the two messages roll in and sighed with relief. Two down, one to go, if her count was right. If she could get confirmation that Averill was fine, then she could focus her efforts on putting on the dorms. With that in mind, she glanced at Tomas Dorms and realized that they were in quite a predicament. If she could guess the Headmaster's plans, and she ordinarily could, then the Tomas would likely be split up between the remaining commons. If they were livable, anyway.

And that in itself was going to be an ordeal. Din and Gage, she knew, would refuse to go anywhere without each other. Cas would most likely want to stay with them. Those three wouldn't go to Ekaterina because Gage disliked Naomi, and she wasn't too sure about sending them to Lucian knowing Ari and Gage's history. Icarus couldn't go to Lucian because Ari was there (no, in fact, Naomi was sure his shithead of an older brother would demand Icarus go with him, and Naomi was interested to see how the Headmaster would deal with it) and of course Aerykah couldn't go to Lucian because Ari hated her guts. It was starting to look like Lucian was going to get off without a single extra student.

"Tch," Naomi muttered, throwing some of the water she was holding onto the fire. It put out hardly a few licks of flame. A drop in the metaphorical bucket. This was a real--

Someone touched Naomi's shoulder, and Naomi jerked. Then she realized it was just Aerykah and relaxed. "Yeah, damn irritating way to get it," she replied, glancing at the smoking shell of Tomas Dorms. "I'd round up your housemates before doing anything else. Din's by the tree already. I think I may have seen Cas collapsed there too, hope someone gives them medical attention. Do you know were Averill is? He's the only one I'm missing."

Shanta dropped Mist onto the ground, her arms bleeding heavily from scores of cat scratches. She was still sobbing.

Muna and End were somewhere near her, but she didn't care anymore. None of it... none of it mattered. The three had just returned from Justus, which was completely ablaze, and everything was so wrong. The Merchant's Cart wasn't supposed to burn. The Dragon wasn't supposed to be loose. Vivian wasn't supposed to be this way.

And Daksha wasn't supposed to be dead.

Aside Shanta, on Shashi the carpet, Daksha was growing cold. He almost looked alive, if his eyes weren't open, unfocused, and glazed over. Somewhere, somehow, Shashi had scooped up his body on the way back from Justus. Shanta didn't know how and she didn't care. She didn't care how anything in the past few hours had happened. It had already happened, and there weren't any do-overs. She had to accept it and focus, there were more important things at hand. The Dragon was loose, the grounds were on fire, and as co-head of Janus she had to do something, she and End had to find Yani, they had responsibilities, they had to put their own problems before others...

But Shanta had put everyone else's issues before her own for years. Once, just this once, in this massive tragedy, she wanted to be selfish and focus on her own issues.

So Shanta ignored the fire and chaos around her, and she cried.

Despite himself, Gage couldn't help but not feel distressed. The sight of the flames destroying everything made him more nostalgic than anything else, the dull thrum of a headache in the back of his skull the only thing ailing him aside from a dry throat. He had been in a situation like this before.

He stood by Din's side silently, watching his fellow students panic and scanning the horizon for Aerykah and Casimir. It wouldn't be long before Din returned to digging through the rubble, and Gage knew this time the younger wouldn't be stopped.

His eyes flicked back over to the ruins of the dorms, ignoring the pang of loss that hit him and trying to figure out if he could see any more body parts other than the corpse of the cat they had found--

For a moment, Gage stilled. "Din," He muttered with an urgency that would only be detectable to em, lifting up one of his arms to motion to a far off lump. He didn't say anymore, immediately taking off at a fast walk to approach what he soon recognized as Cas's body.

Face stony calm, Gage knelt down in front of his friend. He couldn't check for a pulse because he wouldn't be able to feel it, and as a result panic thrummed at his insides. "Cas," Gage tried. "Cas, are you awake. Please."

Ari had officially been attending Merlin for far too long.

She had left Justus with a fleet feet as soon as the dragon had appeared on the horizon, only just making it within campus to hear the Headmaster's announcement. Worry setting her veins on fire, Ari had made sure to confirm that her first years were safe (and check up on the Lucian's dormitory, which had taken most of the damage in the dorms) before she even checked in with the headmaster. It certainly wasn't following orders, but she only had a trio of first years to worry about and their safety came before a conversation with the headmaster did.

Spotting Naomi and Aerykah together, Ari found herself frowning. Had Aerykah even bothered to talk to any of her own house members and check to make sure they were alright before chatting with Naomi?

Ari took a moment to catch the headmaster's eye, giving him a grim nod of acknowledgement. There was no time to be wasted for tense conversation. Seconds were vital. Ari understood that extremely well after all she had been through.

Her own 'reporting' done, Ari headed over to the other two house reps with her hands on her hips. "My brats are all in one piece along for the common room." She announced, eyes flicking over to the Lucian building.

"...Can't say the same for the dorms. Any injured or dead yet? Because, you know," Tone going dry, Ari motioned towards the ruins of the Tomas house. "That is a thing that needs to be checked and dealt with."

                      The world was on fire.

Pele had made it out of Janus dorms in the nick of time; there was a smear of soot on her face, but she seemed relatively unharmed. Standing by herself the girl seemed almost in a daze, face almost serene. For the first time since she had attended Merlin, Pele felt comfortable.

Then her expression contorted, her throat bobbed, and Pele had to give a sick, wretched cough. Wearing a troubled frown when she recovered, Pele looked down at the blood slowly soaking her gloved hand. Well, that certainly wasn't a good sign for her health. Perhaps she had inhaled a bit too much smoke.

Wondering absentmindedly how she was going to get to her daily checkups in the next town if Justus had been trashed and there was no bus services, Pele looked around. She could see the three house representatives standing around, two of her own fellow housemates -- was Shanta crying? huh, -- and a duo of tomas students with incredibly stern expressions.

There was nowhere for her to go. Nowhere where she would be welcomed or desired for or sought after. The only place Pele could truly belong was with carnage.

So she stood, and while she watched the flames burn everything down, Pele felt happy.

Din's darting eyes caught sight of Aerykah, safe and sound. "Three," ey muttered. It was Din's personal head count of who was safe. Gage was one, Icarus was two and now Aerykah was three. In truth, Din's eyes did glance over the crawling figure but ey told emself that it wasn't Casimir, it couldn't be Cas, Cas would have too strong for that. It wasn't until Gage motioned towards them that Din recognised the person as eir friend.

Din dashed after Gage (what was a brisk walk for Gage was a dash for Din) to assist. Ey knelt down beside Cas, immediately checking for a pulse on their wrist because ey knew that Gage couldn't. "Cas," ey whispered as eir thumb moved around on Cas' wrist, trying to find the right place where a pulse could be felt. "Cas, you're alright. Cas, you can wake up now." Din hadn't given Cas a number yet.

From the corner of her eye, she caught notice of Din and Gage hurriedly heading towards someone on the ground. Wait... s**t, was that one of hers?
Aery's head was spinning. And then there was Ari's voice.

Composure, Aery. You're a ******** house rep for a reason and now's not the time to cease up over everything that came between you and Ari, you and Naomi, you and anyone. You got this s**t.

"Everyone from my house is here, but if you guys don't mind following me for a sec, I need to go see what happened over there and see if I can help at all- I'm pretty sure that's Casimir on the ground and they don't look all too good."

And with that, Aery dashed over towards her housemates.
"Tell me what happened and I can see if I can heal them." she instructed, as calmly as she could muster, falling a little too quickly on her knees in front of Cas.

Muna was hot, sweaty, and tired from everything that had went down in Justus. Vivian's words still echoed in his head, her expressions, the way she had dropped her wand and told him to kill her. He had almost done it.

He had been so, so close to fulfilling her wishes, to smashing whatever self respect he had. She hadn't even pushed him away when he hugged her.

He just didn't know what to do anymore. Muna knew he couldn't do it. He didn't feel the same urge of bloodlust that seemed apparent in everyone older than him, some mark of maturity that he couldn't find within himself. It was impossible for him, but he had almost done it.

Muna felt disgusted with himself, but he didn't know how to express it.

Over the thrum of the mental connection he had with Bijan, he could feel the fairy tell him that it wasn't the time to express it. Did Muna forget that if he broke down, it would only make things worse? He needed to calm down and think about the situation at hand. It wasn't quite safe enough to brood and panic.

Shaking his head and jerking his shoulders to help get him out of his own rapid-fire thoughts, Muna shot Bijan a meaningful look before taking another look around. Aerykah, Naomi and Ari were in a group until Aerykah broke off to run to what Muna assumed was what was left of the Tomas house. Maybe that was a good idea. At the least, Muna knew keeping idle was bad for all four of them.

Why don't we go check if everything in Janus dorms is ok Muna suggested, holding up a hand to signify that he was talking. The other was on his mother's necklace, trembling thumb running over the facets of the red gem. I don't think we can be of any immediate use here anyways and I don't think anybody would notice

Casimir Jaunius (who has yet to be bothered to have a layout)

Their consciousness stirred at the action of being touched, They woke, yet kept their eyes closed, taking the moment to adjust to their current situation. Someone was touching them and several voices were calling them at once. Focusing a tad, Casimir link the voices to, Aerykah, Din and Gage (was that a touch of panic in his voice?) They could tell Din was the one touching them from eir's tough hands with the seemingly permanent presence of cuts that had not quite broken the surface. Casimir, relaxed just momentarily knowing they were in good hands until they remembered just exactly where they were and what was going on.
Waaarr-argh! Casimir bolted upright, yell cut short as their and Din's forehead met with a nasty thud. Mnngh....OH MY GOD IM SORRY! They scrambled to apologise, hand clasping at the injury."Are you okay? Why are you all here anyway? It's not safe." Casimir frowned with the way everyone was looking at them, recieving so much attention at once was off-putting.

A wavering movement flicked in and out of the corner of Nina's vision, causing her to look towards it source. It was Ian, much to her surprise. Despite their fight the other day and Nina's unsureness of whether or not Ian was still mad at her, she ran, little legs carrying her across the field.

"Ian! you're okay" she said with a small dose of delight, a fragment of her consciousness kicked in, causing Nina to restrain from throwing her arms into a hug. "Erm...How are you?"

Gilrin was shaking, hard. Standing by the tree, completely unharmed but shaking. She was trying so hard to think of the positives. Maybe if all of her clothes burnt, she would have an excuse to by a whole new lot of clothes thatfit how she felt nowadays. Maybe if the commons burnt down then they could stay somewhere that didn't smell sickly sweet with flowers. Maybe it was better not having a dangerous black dragon beneath the school, even if the alternative was it being controlled by a terrorist group. Maybe.... Maybe... She was running out of positives.

Though one big positive was that Gilrin was pretty sure she didn't know anyone who had died. There was Icarus with his brother, and as much as Gilrin hated that fact, it was better than having Icarus dead. And there was Ian over with Nina, and she was more than happy to not approach, what with the vibe Ian gave off these days. There was Cas being fussed over by their housemates. And there was Scarlett, who Gilrin was stood beside.
"Things are pretty ******** bleek, huh, Scar?" she started. "Honest, though, I'm pretty much scared shitless, myself. But I guess the truth is that we'll ll all be fine from now, right? We're here, we didn't die, so I guess that's just a big ******** plus."

Yani didn't know what to think when she felt the ground shake or when she heard the Headmaster's voice. What black dragon? Why was it in the Catacombs of all places? Wait-- What and where are the Catacombs? Yani was following Aerykah to the Oak while these thoughts ran through her mind amongst others. She hadn't been here long and, despite Aerykah kindly showing her around with some more of the gang, Yani hadn't seen anything around these parts yet.

She held her necklace in her hand as she continued to walk. "I don't want to die," She whispered to her feet and hoped no one had heard her. Yani looked up and saw the places set ablaze, and Aerykah and the other two she was with earlier go off to help others. She stood there, unsure of what to do. I'm supposed to report to Shanta or End, right? Yani looked around frantically for either one of the two then her eyes widened at another thought, If there's a dragon on the loose, where is it now? She panicked, pulling and combing her bangs with her fingers to try and sooth herself. She didn't know if a dragon could be reasoned with and she did not want to die.

Yani slapped her cheeks lightly and told herself to snap out of it. Report to someone and help people, then panic Ya-knee. Looking around again, Yani finally located Shanta who seemed to be in pretty rough shape mentally as well. Yani wasn't sure if she should run over and report in and see if Shanta was okay or leave Shanta for a while to be alone with herself. Then she noticed someone else on Shashi with Shanta. Curiousity took over Yani as she ran, or more accurately, walked as briskly as possible for her towards Shanta. So out of shape Yani was, and an event like this proved it. Wheezing for air, Yani halted in front of Shanta. "Hey Shanta, I made it out," She took a long pause to catch her breath, "Umm. Hey are you alright? Who's thi--" Being up close now Yani noticed the empty, lifeless eyes of the other body on Shashi. She bit her lower lip and reached out to touch Shashi's tassels. She looked back up at Shanta and tried her best to flatten out the permanent upturn of her mouth. She knew her stupid neutral smile wasn't good for times like these. "Shanta, what happened? Are you okay? What's wrong?... Y'know, besides the flames and general chaos and such." She let herself smile briefly in hopes that it might cheer Shanta up.

Gage barely glanced at Aerykah as she rushed past him, stuck in his spot as he stared at Cas. His mouth was drawn into a tight line, expression carefully blank. This couldn't be happening again. He had been so careful to make sure it wouldn't, to encourage everyone to be safe, but--

Gage's shoulders jerked just barely at Cas's yell, and all at once he relaxed. Finally finding it within himself to be able to approach them, Gage took a few steps forward, mindful not to close the crowd. Instead, he loomed over everyone, completely destroying his own efforts to make things less tense for Cas. Not that he noticed.

"Four." Gage replied under his breath, shoulders slightly relaxing. Everyone was safe -- well -- almost safe. It was probably a good idea to get out of there before anything worse happened to them. Taking a few more silent steps forward, Gage joined the other two in crouching.

Cas seemed to have no outward injuries or broken bones. Deeming it was safe Gage reached over and scooped Cas up, standing up easily with them in his arms. "Tree." Gage announced, before promptly turning around and heading back to the currently improb'ed Merlin's Oak with Cas in his arms bridal style.
