Ana obediently turned and walked towards the curious bystanders. This action alone was strange due to the fact that she never followed anyone’s orders. Even now with her back turned to Jakio, she remembered those eyes piercing the darkness. She knew not what the vision was trying to tell her but he was dangerous, far more dangerous than he let on. A killer lived under that skin but something else lived in his eyes. Her questions were vague as she didn’t know if she was looking for a girl or a boy, nor what age they fell under. Some looked at her strange before slamming their doors and others offered little to no information. She had expected this, not only because of what she was but because of where they were. People in such areas didn’t dare to talk about anything other than their own business. Had it been about anything else, she might have respected them for such.

She was about to give up when a frail looking woman approached her.

Ellie had made a detour to slide but her favorite shop and wound up in the center of some strange investigation. Under normal circumstances she would have left it alone but the woman was asking about a Ro’eh. Her master had kept one a few years back but sold him off because he refused to talk about his visions. The boy was young, maybe twelve and he spoke of his people often though he couldn’t tell her much for he was only two when they were massacred. He’d been a nice boy with a strange affliction. He would get terrible headaches which often led to her caring for him. These thoughts are what drew her to the strange talking woman.

At first Ellie was hesitant. The sight of a royal guard was never a good one, especially when one was a slave. She peered at him for a few seconds before swallowing hard and looked to the other woman. “There was a boy not to long ago, Espen. “

Those words drew Ana’s attention like raindrops on her face. She knew the name though she didn’t offer that information. “Vher did yoo see ‘im?”

“We lived in the same house. He spoke like you… well till the master beat it out of him…” The look on Ana’s face darkened and Ellie stepped back for a moment with worry before continuing. “The master sent him to a relative on the southern borders. No one ever comes back from there.” She began to gnaw on her lower lip as her eyes darted back to the royal guard. She wasn’t even worried about those in the lower city that might turn and tell her master of what she’d done. She was use to such beatings. Just the thought of it caused her to rub her bandaged arms. He would not be pleased but then again if she told him of this Ro’eh’s presence, he would drown her in gifts…

Ellie quickly shook her head of these thoughts and bowed. “ I have to go before my master begins to wonder.” She spun on her heel and began to scamper off.

Jakio stood up slowly, his body should have ached as he was used to being beaten, but it was light and felt healthy. Likely due to the healing power of the woman, which he was indebted to now. His eyes darted towards the woman she was speaking to, a slave? He questioned himself as he flicked his long blade toward the ground and the blood dripped off and he placed it back onto his back. His body lunged a bit down as he did so, due to the weight of the weapon.

"This is good information?" He questioned, he wasn't in the mood to chase the woman who had given the information. She had likely given all the information she knew since she was a slave. Though he did not dare say that to Ana, she would likely give chase and attempt to free the woman and he was getting tired of his game of cat and mouse. His thoughts were interrupted as a Royal guard group had come after the fight to investigate.

His head turned towards the group, he knew many of them as they were higher up and responded to fights within the Kingdom. He eyed Ana as a somewhat fear gripped his heart. This was likely the only woman who had seen him for himself and did not run, a woman who might understand all the breaking his body had taken. "Run..." He said rather quietly, but then he turned towards her completely. "Run!" He shouted through his teeth.

His hand raised over his shoulder and drew his long sword, swinging it rather lightly about, his swung down towards the other guards, and charged them. Most of which drew their swords. Kneeling down he blocked several of the swords with one swing and pushed them back. He had no desire to see his possible new friend to be caught, and he knew that he would defend her until she escaped.

Shiang took only 3 steps with the children and stopped. He could smell blood in the air death massacre. He couldnt tell what it was other than death maybe demon possessed men killing those in the city. His mind began to fight with itself. the first voice snapping out to due his duty."You are a holy man or you were at least at one point in time. You must do something. You know your the only monk in this city that can use the holy ray. Your the only one who can purge out demons and destroy them."

The second voice his own voice yelled out in his mind." I will not subjugate myself to do that again. They turned on me the second it became hard for me to use the holy ray. Once my powers started to fade they cast me out my family my monastery. I cant help them I cant even help myself."

The voice that spoke first yelled even louder to the point he clenched his hands over his ears." You know you can use the ray you know you can purge demons and save the souls of men. It is your power it is what was given to you you by the gods. Just because you failed once doesnt mean you give up. Would a good man love children want to protect them make them laugh. No evil man down in his heart would care for them as you do. You Shiang are one the look forward to see each day the poor children of the lower quarter love you. Look at them they worry about you even now as we speak. You are a good man and holy upright man. Now drop the bottle and cast down the demons of this city and reclaim who you are!!" Shiang bowed to the children and ran down towards the smell of the blood. He had to go to heal the dying and send the souls of the dead to the other side whether they be ruffian or saint he must see to them so their souls dont turn to demons.

Ellie hadn’t made it far when she heard the shout to run. She glanced back to survey what was happening and bit her lip. That other woman didn’t look like she was the type to back down but the growing sense of danger was enough for her to kick the dirt and run back to the fight.

Ana stood in place like a statue made of stone. She watched Jakio stand against his comrades and for what? He knew she could defend herself and he, he had just barely made it out of the last fight alive. She placed her hand to her chest, confused as to what to do. He had sounded so serious. At her back she had another person shouting and in the end her fingers traced down to her staff. Should she fight? Just as she was about to grab it the girl from before wrapped her bandaged fingers around her wrist and gave a sharp pull. Like all the other times her mind was assaulted with images and a skull splitting pain. She watched what felt like a silent movie as she was pulled away by the stranger. She could see a cage, the girl treating her wounds and a young boy being taken away.

When she came too they were being stopped by someone who claimed to be a warden of sorts. She didn’t have time to question what a warden was doing outside the castle itself as the girl gripping her hand released her to dig free a notebook out of her ragged and torn clothes.

Ellie flipped open the old and dirt covered pages, bit down on her thumb hard enough to draw blood and smeared the red liquid across the page. She then tore out the page and tossed it at the strange man. As the page fell, it glowed with an ominous light before a large creature seemed to appear from it. The creature was orange and black stripped, a large cat that growled at the warden as Ellie once more took Ana’s hand and began to drag her off. The tiger stayed behind, standing in the path between the two women and danger.

They made it not ten paces down the path when Ellie’s face lit up and she waved violently with one hand. “Sing, Sang Shiang! Don’t go that way. Guards, wardens and a crazy red headed man.”

Ana frowned and looked behind them to where the warden stood with the strange animal that had appeared out of no where, then to this Shiang person and lastly to the girl who gripped her wrist tightly. “ Yoo, are strange child. Release me at once. Ey must go assist Jakio. ‘E ez ‘elpless without me.”

Ellie only shook her head to deny the woman of her wish.

Jakio pushed back the attack of his late comrades and dropped his sword as soon as he could see that the woman was somewhat out of sight. His hands raised above his head and a small smile came across his face. He looked at the men before, who were still ready to draw the fight to a fatal end, but stayed back a bit away from Jakio. Until the commander came forward. "Jakio! You are hereby under arrest for assisting criminal activity!" He shouted and came forward, going behind Jakio and kicking his knees out from under him, so he fell forward.

"Do you have anything to say in your offense?" The commander questioned, while chaining Jakio's hands behind his back and bringing him back up to his feet and shoving into a few other men. Jakio didn't make any attempt to resist, his head was already hung low as one of the men punched him into his gut. "Take him away!" The commander said clearly.

Shiang saw the two women and waved to them as they ran he didnt know fully of what was going on but he could tell they were in trouble. Shiang raced up to them looking back at the armed guards trying to get to the two women. Shiang new the city like his own right hand. Shiang knew it from top to bottom the surface streets and its sewers. Shiang knew the sewers from his days as a priest clearing them of demons cleansing the possessed homeless that called the dark tunnels home. Shiang motioned to them hoping they would follow he moved directing them to an alley way where the sewer lid was always off and easy to move. Shiang motioned them to jump into the darkness." Trust me they wont follow you down there and as a man of the cloth I can bring you back out again."

Despite the fact that she had no desire to follow a stranger who reeked of a dead man soaked in rum, Ana had no choice but to do so. The supposed “man of the cloth” looked nothing of the sort. She had seen many such men in the past and they always kept up their appearance as a servant of God and yet this man. She had fallen to the back to their little line rubbing her wrist where the strange woman, Ellie, had grabbed her. More and more people were coming in contact with her recently and it was starting to take its toll on her mind. Now she had to repay a debt to these two and rescue that dimwitted guard from his own actions. She could have gotten them out of that mess and yet he wanted to play the hero to some strange game in his mind. And where did that warden come from?

The echoes of their footsteps comforted her during her thought process but Ellie chose to break that comfortable silence with a question. She was scribbling viciously in her little note book while taking up pace with the strange man, this Sing Sang Shiang. “What’s a man of the cloth?” She questioned curiously as her scribbling came to a stop and she dragged her still bleeding finger across the page before tearing it out like the other. Ana watched with fascination as the paper glowed softly, folded itself and pushed outward becoming a paper lantern. Ellie pushed the end of her pencil into the side to form a handle and their path became much lighter than before.

“’ow do yoo do zat?”

“Do what?”

“Make zhings appear.” Ana frowned and tilted her head as she examined the paper lantern. Before a tiger and now a lantern? What exactly was this girl’s power? Ellie smiled sheepishly and wrapped her finger with one of the many bandages hanging from her arm.

“ My master calls it the Left hand of God… anything I draw, becomes real when I wish it.” She wasn’t sure she should be explaining this but what worse could be done to her than what her master already did? She smiled softly and lowered her book to her side. They had a long trip and neither woman knew where the beginning or the end of these tunnels happened to be.

Shiang looked back at the women as he lead the way his right hand glowing as he walked the light source from her lantern to bright for his sensitive still slightly drunk eyes. Shiang shook himself occasionally to clear his vision and keep his head." That power truly is a gift from the gods. And your probably wondering how could a dirty nasty stinky vagrant call himself a man of the cloth. Well I was a priest once. I was the head exorcist several years ago in the cities largest temple. I like you was born with a gift from the gods." Shiang raised his right hand higher for the to see." Dont look directly in to it. The light has blinded a person or two." Waiting for them to shield their eyes slightly Shiang let the light explode in all its brilliance chasing away regular rats and frying the demon spawn that crawled along side the rats down in the sewer. Shiang lowered and lessened the light from his hand."I used the holy light to remove demons from humans, pets and live stock." Shiang waved them to follow him down a side tunnel as the main tunnel seemed to end in sheer light swallowing darkness. Shiang pointed back at it as they kept moving."You should never go that way." Shiang shrunk back suddenly knocking the lantern from Ana's hand snuffing the light out from his own hand as well in a loud whisper he held his hand to his mouth as the sign for silence."Quiet!!!" There in the tunnel a head was a large animal that looked a mixture between a wolf and a rat." Be very still."

Ellie jumped slightly at the sudden loss of her lantern and frowned. The conversation had been going so well before they were forced into darkness, she hated the dark. Her hands reached out and she tightly clenched both the strange woman and Shiang. Her fingers were like vice grips as she shook slightly. She had no fear of the creature down the way, no she was afraid of something much simpler, the dark.

Sensing this and seeing the creature, Ana twisted her wrist and the water began to sway slightly at her side. It was much heavier than what she was use to, with the water being dirty and all. She closed her eyes and pried Ellie’s fingers off her arm which made her cling to Shiang as if death were after her. “Ef et attacks, Ey got it.” She spoke quietly as to not draw attention and lifted her hand. A steady stream of water fallowed, slithering like a snake along the path before them. The creature looked terrifying but she had seen many such things in her travels to save her people.

Ellie, on the other hand, turned her head and bruised it in the man’s arm. She momentarily forgot about the smell of alcohol and shut her eyes tightly. “I’m scared” She whispered. The words were so muffled it was possible that only Shiang, being so close, would hear them.

Ana swallowed hard and squinted to be able to better see the creature. She could see the creature, not as well as she’d like to, but none the less she could. That was when she got an idea. “Shiang, was et?” she asked, her voice just above a whisper. "Can ve use zese tunnels to get to za castle’s jail?”

Shiang sighed and shook his head yes clenching Ellie's hand." Down the tunnel I said never to head down is the way to the castle and the reason I said not to head down there is because there is a nest of these things down there." Shiang whispered this rather loud loud enough for the ratwolf to turn and take notice of them. Shiang clenched Ellie's hand and whispered to her." Dont be afraid." Shiang switched hands quickly spinning himself more in the way of the demon and raised his right hand hand sending out the light in its brightest form blinding the creature." Attack!!!"
PostPosted: Sat Jan 18, 2014 6:26 am

Ellie shrank back behind Shiang, despite his words of comfort. She never did like the dark. It brought about bad things. She couldn’t see in the dark, which meant she couldn’t draw and thus became mostly powerless. Secondly the dark had always been used as a punishment for when she disobeyed her master. She clenched her eyes tightly as Shiang released a bright light that strained her eyes. She didn’t intend to but she released a fearful cry and shook slightly.

Ana lightly patted the smaller girl’s shoulder. She had been through a lot, more than anyone would ever understand. If not for her ability to see into one’s self, well she would not understand either. The drunkard gave the command to attack and she cast him a strange look while arching her brow. Did he just order her? She didn’t take well to that. None the less, she lifted her hand and the water rose from it’s resting position and rushed down the sewer at the creature. The stench of the water made her gag but she shook her head and scrunched her nose.

“ Ey ‘ave to save zat stupid guard from ‘imself. Yoo two should return to za surface…” Sure she wouldn’t mind having a few extra hands but if there were a whole den of those strange monsters down that way, she didn’t want to risk anyone else’s lives. She shifted her hand and more water rose from the tunnels to run down the drain and hopefully sweep the rat creature away. She made a silent vow that after this, she would never enter a sewer again.

Shiang checked Ellie and turned to Anna. "I’m sorry I shouldn’t have ordered you to attack. I felt your movements even sensed your power and knew you had something planned. But you’re not going alone. I know these tunnels better than most."Shiang dimly lit his hand and pulled back from Ellie moving back part of his ragged outer robes showing a set of throwing knives each engraved with a verse from his order in gold and set in leather sheaths under each arm. ”I may be a vagrant I may have abandoned my order that cast me out. But lucky for me the gods have not abandoned me. Or the holy light would not shine from my hand as it does.” The monk then reached into the folds of his cloak and produced two parts of a staff one with a symbol of the holy light and the other just the end of the staff. Shiang twisted them together and stood to his full height. Shiang them tucked the staff under armpit and pulled his long hair back into a knot with a leather tie from a pouch on the sheaths under his arms.
