The Doctor Anon

Mrs. Hudson winked at the Doctor and headed to Sherlock's room, knocking on the door. "I made tea with jam with toast Sherlock, and I got your crisps from the store", she sang to him, and then the violin stopped. She trot back to the living room with another tray of toast, jam and crisps and filled the cup with tea, then filled herself a cup as well.

As if by magic, a calmed down Sherlock returned and sat down beside Mrs. Hudson on the sofa, muttering a gracious thank you before taking a handful of crisps.

Smiling in greeting, the Doctor watched the great Detective eat, happy to see him eating at all.
"You're cheerier, eh?" He remarked, a sense of novelty in his voice. The Doctor made no move to start eating, however, because he had the TARDIS to provide for him. Instead, he just sipped his tea, letting the sweetened flavor of tea that was impossibly good flood his tongue.
"Still as great a tea maker as before, I see," he mumbled, winking at Mrs Hudson.

Mrs. Hudson played modest, holding a hand to her cheek before gently pushing the compliment away, her whole face brightening. "It's just tea!"

When Sherlock let out a long, patient sigh at the Doctor, mouth full of crisps, he was side hugged by his landlady and reluctantly let out a smile. Mrs. Hudson gave his cheek a motherly stroke and nodded understandably. "It'll be all right soon enough Sherlock. Something will turn up and John will return." Sherlock grit his teeth momentarily and then looked toward the window, then back at the Doctor with a brow raised.

She chuckled and finished her tea, patting him on the shoulder before opting to take her leave. "I'll be downstairs boys", she said as she unceremoniously slipped out.

This caught the Doctor's attention. He looked up at Sherlock, eyebrows raised, and pulled out his sonic screwdriver again, to scan the room.
"Watson's gone?" he inquired, a touch of concern entering his voice. The sonic revealed that wherever John was, he definitely wasn't in the apartment, as the Doctor had assumed.
"What's happened to him?"

The Doctor Anon

The amateur detective perched on the couch, curling into a ball as he looked at the Doctor with a poker face, at that point ignoring his food. After a few moments of watching the man wave his magic wand around, apparently scanning he'd guessed, he finally explained. "John is with family. He should be back any day now. Can anyone use your things? Like this TARDIS, for instance, or your screwdriver."

After a few moments of watching the man wave his magic wand around, apparently scanning he'd guessed, he finally explained. "John is with family. He should be back any day now. Can anyone use your things? Like this TARDIS, for instance, or your screwdriver."

Intrigued to have the detective finally speaking to him, the Doctor looked up, smiling as he slipped the sonic back into his pocket.
"The sonic? Sure, it's point-and-think." He shrugged a little, as if this were obvious, "But the TARDIS... Only I can fly her. She's a type 40, if that means anything to you, so only a Timelord can." Which meant, of course, that only he could, because he was the last Timelord. He shook himself a little bit, an almost unnoticeable action, in an attempt to dismiss the depressing though. Leaning back in his chair, he frowned a little bit, as though something had just occurred to him.

Sherlock hopped off the sofa and took a dramatic last drink of his tea, before it would go cold, and waltzed over to the Doctor, stopping in front of him. "You're the last one, the last 'Timelord'. Something happened to the others", he continued, reading the Doctor closely, scrutinising the smallest of details with ease. He went to reach for the 'sonic' curiously, but did not do so rudely. "May I?"

Something happened to the others", he continued, reading the Doctor closely, scrutinising the smallest of details with ease. He went to reach for the 'sonic' curiously, but did not do so rudely. "May I?"

Pain visibly entered his eyes and, for the first time since he'd met Sherlock, the Doctor refused to meet the other man's gaze. He couldn't deny this statement's truth, so instead he dug in his pocket for the screwdriver, not going into the fact he was the last of his kind.
"What, use my sonic? MY SONIC SCREWDRIVER?" He faked indignation, raising his voice a little, then placed the sonic screwdriver in Sherlock's hand, smiling a little.
"Yeah, 'course you can." There wasn't much harm that even Sherlock Holmes could do with it. It didn't work on wood, and its main function was opening doors, though messing with electronics was another specialty. The Doctor sank lower into his chair, remembering the War and how he'd been forced to end it, killing both his own species and the Daleks; not only that, but how he'd watched his planet burn.
"John doesn't have family, does he? Well," he interrupted himself, looking up at Sherlock, "not any family he gets on with?"

The detective knew he was on to something then, and yet he had the sensitivity to leave it be. He smirked at being handed the alien device, but just for a second empathetically frowned at the Doctor. Even if all of this wasn't real, which he was still uncertain of, the man's pain was real. He had been through some terrible ordeal. He'd seen that face before on his flatmate and a few other veterans. Death, pointless destruction, war.

Knowing he could do nothing to help, he turned his attention to the device in his hand. He mimicked the doctor's pointing, aiming it at the television. 'I saw it work on those robots-- cross that, cyborgs. It interfered with their circuitry. Television, turn on.'

The television switched on obediently, even changing to Sherlock's favourite channel without being asked; the Doctor smiled mildly, impressed that Sherlock had even known what to do with it. He was glad that the younger male didn't press into the matters of the War; he knew very well that Sherlock had seen the raw, unprotected emotion flicker through his eyes, because that was the one thing he couldn't hide from the world.
"Brilliant, eh?" the Doctor prompted, grinning more broadly. It was easier, to fake a smile and pretend he wasn't still recovering from the mention of the War.

"Fascinating", the detective pronounced, turning off the television and moving onto other items he could think up. He used it on his mobile, calling Mrs. Hudson before hanging it up. He pointed up at the sky, doing God only knows what, and then stared at his phone again, smiling impishly. "Absolutely fascinating", he repeated breathlessly, now absolutely certain what he held in his hand was real.

He stared at the thing like a fascinated little boy and then undid whatever it was he'd done, then checked his mobile again before he began analysing everything he could possibly discern without taking it apart. He then slowly moved his stare to the Doctor, fighting to find his words.

The Doctor returned Sherlock's gaze with merely a smile, glad to see that Sherlock had the same curiosity as the rest of the human race. That's what made them special, after all.
"Advanced technology," he explained, not wanting to explain the complicated internal workings, "like the TARDIS being bigger on the inside." He ran a hand through his hair yet again and stood up, going to stroke the wood of his TARDIS like she was an old and dear companion.

"Bigger on the inside?" Sherlock smiled, enjoying the novelty of knowing absolutely nothing about any of this. "Also, TARDIS is an acronym. T stands for Time, of that I'm absolutely certain. A is a little more tricky; perhaps the common And, or Advanced. And D, I have no idea. I, maybe In. I'm pretty sure S is Space."

He pointed the device at the TARDIS, asking mentally if it could possibly tell him something informational about the police box. He didn't dare attempt to control it remotely like he had the satellite, because even if he could, he wouldn't want to risk it.

The sonic made its familiar whining sound, but showed only that there was no box there at all, only Sherlock's mundane wall.
"Cloaking device," the Doctor explained, catching the confusion in his companion's eyes. He walked around the TARDIS, taking one step to accentuate each word.
"Time And Relative Dimension In Space!" He yelled, one happy step at a time as he pranced around his machine, stroking it. This was apparently his form of fun.

"Cloaking device", he nearly choked. That had grand implications. He stared at the thing, blinking hard.

Sherlock remarked to himself. "Dimension! Of course it was dimension. I knew it wasn't Distance." He looked back at the fun new toy in his hand and asked it about itself and its own capabilities.
