Curiosity finally won Dongo over, and the golden male followed the pride leader and the god. As he got close, he began to recognize familiar markings, here and there. A wing marking pattern... Some banded glove markings... And then he spied a lioness, and his eyes widened as his jaw dropped. It couldn't be... Could it? It had been so very long... And then another lioness, and suddenly the familiar markings smattered around this group of lions made sense. He knew those markings, because they were markings from HIS family - These were two of his sisters and some nieces and nephews! He looked to an all-too-familiar black, orange, and gold lioness. "Pipihindi! It's been so long!" He didn't run over, though, not sure about how the other lions on both sides would react.
She followed more out of her own curiosity, which only turned into confusion. Dongo recognized some of these lions? She couldn't name a single one of them! NONE of them looked even remotely familiar! Gold eyes moved from one lion to the next, but the only recognition she showed was of a shade of pink on some cubs. Still, she wasn't sure if that would be enough to pinpoint a blood relation. After all, there were a LOT of lions who happened to be white, but not related. And while markings could be more indicative of relation, the lioness she spied with a curl to her cheek similar to her own could have gotten the marking from any lion that happened to have one. No, she decided, she knew nobody here, but Dongo knowing lions in this pride in exodus was enough to put her at ease, as well as the short story of fire and flight. She looked to the god and pride leader, finally speaking up. "They all look so tired, Skan... Perhaps they could stay a few days and rest...?" They looked like they could really use it.

It would take more than a lifetime for Kisulisuli to forget her name before she joined the Jini-msemi to be with her sister. She had come without knowing whatever happened to her other siblings and had no idea the lands the pride now marched through contained one brother that stood out most in her mind. When her name was called out, she perked up in the crowd and looked out towards the growing group of strangers before them-- and then she spotted Dongo.
Unlike him, she had no restraint. With a delighted squeal, she pushed her way out of the crowd and ran across the gap between the two groups until she crashed into her brother. She left behind at least two staring daughters and no doubt many others.
"Dongo!" she cried.((Sorry guys. Can't take Kisuli anywhere.))

Tsi-Tsi had been entertaining himself by moving pebbles around and poking shapes into the dirt when he heard the mood around him change suddenly. There were...strange lions over there! Behind the purple one! And none of them had tattoos!
If they didn't have tattoos...that meant they weren't from any of the Clans. They weren't Ela'wadiyi. But...they didn't seem like bad lions. The yellow cub crept out from behind his mother to get a better look. No, he hadn't been hiding behind his mother, he'd just been sitting there! Yeah!
Tseva had been looking, eyes wide, as the Jini-msemi came upon what appeared to be a whole nother pride. Her view wasn't the best, being farther from the front of the group, but there were definitely a lot of lions before them. The Queen's voice drifted back to her and she frowned. So this was the home of the Ela'wadiyi? They were allies, right? Friends? At least, Tseva hoped they were.
"We'll stop walking and sleep soon," she promised her two complaining sons. "Don't worry."
Pas gave Mot a small shove. It was hard enough walking on his own, he didn't need any brothers leaning on him too. "Get off!" the cub squeaked indignantly.
Then the others started chiming in or groaning or doing whatever they wanted to add their opinions. Hmph. Well he was the one who'd said it first! At least they were going to stop soon. That's what Mommy had said and she didn't lie to them.

The male finally gave in, breaking from the group of tattooed lions to meet his sister half-way. The purr that came from him sounded almost like a low roll of thunder, a sign of just how happy he was to see family. As he rubbed against her, his face was alight with a grin. "Pipi, it's been too long! How have you been? What's been going on in your life? There's so much to talk about!" He then turned and pointed. "This is my mate, Huong! And over there are... Most of our children!" The group he indicated were three sons and all but one daughter. He then looked back at his sister. "What about you? Mate, children?"Huong looked back and forth, watching her mate and a lioness who seemed to be her sister-in-law, and couldn't help but begin to really grin. "It's so nice to see just how MUCH family you have, Dongo!" She felt like she'd joined something far bigger than just Dongo and a brother. "First your brother in another clan, now one of your sisters in a whole other pride! Just how big IS your family?" Amusement reflected in her gold eyes, a joy to, indeed, be part of such a big family. Though it raised a question - How many brothers and sisters did Dongo HAVE? He'd mentioned that his father liked to... Spread the genes... But this one looked like a FULL sister, not so much a half-sister, which certainly made things a little easier to keep track of. A little...Upendo walked up behind her mother, eyes wide. Who were THESE lions? And why was that male so friendly? "Mom, who exactly IS this guy...?" She'd never really come this direction during her Name Quest, and she wasn't sure any of her siblings or cousins had. Whoever he was, he knew her mother. As she really looked at him, she started to notice something of a resemblance to not only her mother, but her aunt as well. She looked at her own limbs, then the male's, and noted the similar barred glove markings. Finally, she looked to her mother, eyes widening. "Is he related to us...?!"

The sudden shouting shocked Ari out of his mourning. He was scared, at first - the rest of the ceremony had been so quiet. So he shrunk away slightly from the noise, as Jamali grabbed his flowers to assure they wouldn't be trampled. But as he resettled himself, he couldn't help but watch the two lions across the way. It was clear they were having some kind of reunion - perhaps the two prides were more closely tied than he'd originally thought? The scene reminded him of when he'd first found M'Paloo, his best friend from childhood. But that was a long time ago. Many things had changed since then, and he had lost his friend - his brother - again.
So the great lion sighed. He was constantly being reminded of his foolishness, his errors, his loss. That's what the ceremony was for, of course. He was here to make peace with that. He almost wanted to just get up and leave, to run away like he always did. But Jamali was eyeing him, silently telling him to stay calm. This was nothing to run away from. This was something Ari needed.

Meepfur So here were the elusive inhabitants, at last.
If Khara was startled by the roar or intimidated by the appearance of a god, she gave no indication. The purple lioness did stop, but she did so in an unhurried manner, calmly regarding both the god and the lion who followed after him. She took a moment to study them both, as well she could in the darkness, before taking a few steps forward. She dipped her head, while the snake whose thick coils hung about her neck stirred at last, lifting his head and flicking his tongue in the strangers' directions.
"Peace, Ela'wadiyi," Khara said, her voice soft but strong. "We mean you no harm, and apologize for our trespass. I am La'u Khara'i, Queen of the Jini-misemi, and we seek only safe passage on our journey to the mountains. Fire has taken our home, and we would make a new one there, in the land that once belonged to the Sun and Moon." Skan had a moment of shock upon seeing a slithering form emerge from the lioness' neck. He was having a hard time calming down, but the fact that his father, Tawa'di, didn't seem too alarmed told Skan that he needed to slow his mind down. Think this through. Though it wasn't his generation, he knew that Tawa'di remembered the hardships of losing your homelands. The Ela'wadiyi may never return to their proper home, but here was a chance to help make their migration easier than the Ela's had been, long ago. Tawa'di spoke up. "I know of the mountains you speak of. They are empty now, as I'm sure you know, and are ripe for the taking for those that need their protection." Skan nodded, finally gathering his composure enough to speak properly, and not with accusations or anger. "I am Skan Kanati, the wanidatsi of these lands. As you may see it...loosely, the leader of the Ela'wadiyi." He cleared his throat for a moment, weighing the outcomes of two options in his mind. Finally, he spoke again. "Ah, if it will help you and your kin, we will offer temporary rest within our lands. I see, and smell, that some of yours are injured, and probably not up to hiking the path to where your goal is. Would you....accept our offering?" It was uncomfortable, knowing that so many strangers would be in their land, but on the fact that some pride members knew each other and ignored the normal standing of strangers, he supposed this could help strengthen their overall relationship as well.

While Dongo rattled off as many questions as he could, Kisulisuli rested her head against his mane and focused just on how completely happy she was to see him. It had been so long, she might have forgotten how much she missed and cared about her other brothers and sisters- but that whole idea seemed ridiculous now.
"Huong," she repeated, glancing over to the pink and black lioness, finally straightening herself up as she was addressed by the beautiful stranger. She listened to her go on- trying not to get too distracted hearing another brother was in another clan (what did that mean?) but instead focusing on this.
"Our family is very big," she said, laughing and smiling at Huong, "I'm glad to see Dongo has made it even bigger!"Tumainifu`iga was more hesitant to follow after her mother and sister but when there was no major opposition and it seemed the leaders made some of peaceful agreement, she decided to join them. She moved more cautiously but it wasn't a long walk to come up beside Upendo, just as she was asking if this guy was related to them. "Yes," she answered, clearing her throat and finally ready to handle some questions- though her gaze kept getting distracted looking off where her brother indicated his offspring were, "Girls, this is my brother, your uncle, Dongo. Dongo, this is Upendo mimi'mazingira and Tumainifu'iga, they are my daughters. I have two other sons but they have not come home from their name quests yet."
Her face twitched as she fought back a frown. She had no idea how Bosede and Thelo would find them now that the swamps had burned down. She hoped they would be OK.
"My name is Kisulisuli now," she added, realizing she had yet to correct him, "Barid-- Lala is here, too. She's somewhere in the crowd, we lost track of her a while ago but she's in there somewhere." Once her mother got the introductions out of the way, Tumaini was clearly put at ease. She smiled at Dongo and at Huong, trying to guess if this was a full brother like Aunt Baridi'ini was a full sister- she knew her mother had many half-siblings. The way she was acting, though, it seemed most likely that they were full siblings. It certainly seemed the grew up together.
"Nice to meet you," she said. Vyoga stood stubbornly near the Queen, waiting for the issue to be resolved between the leaders of the two prides, but he couldn't help it when his attention wandered to where his aunt had run across to the other pride, crying out a name that sounded vaguely familiar. It was apparent from the distance that this was another family member. Eventually, he was staring at the group of them instead of Skan and Khara, though he smartly stuck right where he was for now.
Where had his mother gotten to? She ought to be out there, too.

Endesha was one of those who were injured, though she did her best not to show it. As time had passed her movements had become stiff and pained, though she pressed on without a word of complaint. If anyone had asked she'd thrown them a haughty glare and grinned at them, determined to shake off any concern.
She was fine. She was alive. That was all that mattered. It could have been a lot worse. But now it seemed they had been intercepted and Endesha began to worry that if she stopped to rest she wouldn't be able to get up again. Couldn't they just press on? She'd much rather have worked through the pain than take a break and let it creep deeper into her bones.
"What seems to be the hold up?" She asked no one in particular as she pushed forwards, pausing to cast a sceptical eye over the heavily tattooed lions that had come face to face with. "Oh..."

While she awaited an answer from the god and mortal pair who had first intercepted them, Khara watched with no small amusement and pleasure as some of the other Ela'wadiyi and began recognizing kin; it wasn't terribly surprising, all things considered, and it was also good. The bonds of blood should go a long way to put everyone more at ease, and help the case of the Jini-misemi. They were not a threat, and some of them not even strangers, but kin.
Khara dipped her head to the god when he spoke, prompting further movement from the snake, who loosened his coils and slipped to the ground before the Queen lifted her head again. "We would be most grateful to you all, and I would...be in your debt," she responded, her tone making it clear that those last words were not given lightly. "Whatever laws you have or wish to set upon us, we will abide by while we are guests within your lands. We will see to it that all of ours know this, and know that we will treat the breaking of your laws as we would the breaking of our own."
The lioness glanced to her Consort, meaning to ask his aid in the dispersal of this message, but - "Brother?" Haikea`sielu, intrigued by the sudden fuss - but not in any particular hurry, as usual - had finally ambled his way after the other Ela'wadiyi to see what was going on, and was more than a little surprised to see what looked to be the entirety of his birth-pride, the assemblage of them so large that it stretched back into the darkness and faded from sight.
And right there at the front of them was one of his siblings. This was all...most unexpected.

Vyoga's eyes stayed on his aunts, uncle and cousins but his ears were on what was going on between Khara, Skan and Tawa'di-- though if any party interacted with him at that moment, he might have known nothing of what was going on in either place. So much was going on and he was poorly practiced at dividing his attention so. One surprising voice caught his full attention though: his brother had appeared in the crowd and immediately his eyes and ears were on him.
"Boko!" he cried, taking half a step and remembering where he was, stumbling the rest of the step. And, not named Vyoga-kwaa for nothing, he promptly got his feet tangled up in themselves and nearly hit the ground face-first, catching himself just before he could start to fall.
Wide-eyed and embarrassed, he glanced to Khara and smiled sheepishly. So few members of his family returned from their name quests. Not a single littermate of his had returned, it had been so long that one of his younger siblings had come back already. And even then, it was just the two of them.. and there ought to have been eight. He was very happy to see his brother. But he didn't dare make another move yet.

Dongo's ears pricked in surprise. Her name had changed? He had loosely heard of this before, but never truly met somebody who had said they had done so. He couldn't fathom changing his own. But he still smiled, rubbing his cheek against his sister's shoulder. "We have so much to catch up on!" He then pointed into the pride. Somewhere in that mass... "Wakhakwi is in there somewhere!" Probably falling over... Not that he thought bad of that, more worried about his brother's equilibrium. "With a mate, no less!" He then looked at the gathered lions. "So... How many of them are Lala's?"Nafsi finally stepped up, eyeballing his uncle. There was no dark emotion in his eyes, though, more a look of mirth and amusement. "A number of us... Few returned home from their name quests... Now we know where ONE brother went..!" He looked over to Haikea, then Vyoga. While his consort brother couldn't run to greet their brother out of decorum of rank, Nafsi could. This was the first he'd be meeting Boko, and he felt that the wing markings on his back were a rather good indication of relation. "You must be Boko!" He paused, mindful of their birth pride's traditions. "Or... Were?" His face was lit up with a grin. "I'm Nafsi'yango-nzi, from another litter by the same parents!"

Momentarily distracted by the appearance of Bokoboko, Kisuli was only half-listening to what Dongo said about Wakhakwi being around as well. She could barely contain herself, even when she turned back to Dongo to answer a tricky question.
"Lala, now Baridi'ini, has eight cubs from two litters," she explained, her tone changing as she continued but her expression stubbornly remaining bright, "Two have returned from their name quests, it seems a third has hidden away here."
Tumaini was younger than Vyoga-kwaa and Haikea'sielu but she was very familiar with their younger siblings, being not much older than Nafsi and the others. She immediately recognized that Bokoboko was family, he looked so much like little Anika. Or, perhaps more accurately, she looked so much like him.
Her excitement was starting to rise now, too, as the leaders began to sort out how to make this work and as her mother became more animated. She was a happy observer, she didn't really know any of these reappearing family members, really.
"Anika," she muttered to Upendo, nodding to Haikea, using her sister as an outlet for some of her excitement. It was good to feel so happy about something after the loss of their home.

Well. Some things never changed, did they? But as Haikea'sielu stepped forward to go to his brother, grinning, someone he didn't know but who nonetheless looked rather familiar rushed up to him. Sielu blinked dark eyes at the other lion, then glanced at his littermate again.
Huh. He had...more siblings, apparently, and they weren't small, either. He really had taken his sweet time, hadn't he?
Blink, blink. "Hello." He probably didn't sound particularly enthusiastic by most standards, not being an enthusiastic sort, but he was happy. Even if this was weird. "Sielu," he said, "Haikea'sielu. I was going to come home, but I...detoured."
Had met a girl, more accurately.

Once everything was properly put away, Hanaa rose and moved closer to investigate the commotion, making her way through the crowd to get a better view. It wasn't easy... she tried to avoid actually touching anyone, or stepping anywhere that looked like it would get her paws unduly dirty... A soft 'excuse me', 'pardon me' seemed to help ease the way and before long she had an unobstructed view of the goings on.
The cream lioness was startled by the number of strangers that had come to their lands, silently counting them to herself as her mouth moved, forming the numbers. So many... surely the whole of a pride had arrived in their lands. And they were to be guests? The hunters, including her, were going to have their work cut out for them to feed all these mouths...
The happy, raised voice drew her attention and she felt a heat in her chest as lost family reunited, falling on each other as they greeted and shared news. Her dark eyes grew sad as she watched in longing. Pacha... turning from the painful sight, the lioness scanned the pride for a familiar face, as much of a long shot as it might be. How long had it been, since she'd last seen her sister? Years, it felt like. Would her sister even recognize her now?
Though she thought she saw some flashes of bright yellow, none of them belongs to the lioness Hanaa was searching for and she finally gave up, turning back to watch the rules of the two prides speak.

Paki sat looking pitiful and small behind the entourage of his rather large family. His mother pressed on, ignoring his unspoken complaints and his weak attempt at a protest. She had her paws full, certainly, but in his young mind that was no excuse to just leave him behind. He wanted to be carried! The ground here was so hard and rugged and there were too many new faces.
Pit’s enthusiasm didn’t help. The cub didn’t seem to know the meaning of the word ‘calm’. He was something of a whirlwind on paws and while he never meant to offend or irritate, more often than not his antics were little more than annoying.
“I don’t wanna smile…” Paki grumbled, pulling himself up to his paws to trudge after his family. “They’re ignoring me.”
”With that attitude.” Pit pointed out. “No one can ignore me.” If that wasn’t the truth. He pranced after the dark cub, his tail thrown up like a banner and his shoulders rolled back. Paki’s angry trudge looked almost childish beside the more eager prance of his pride mate.
“Come on, there’s a lot to keep your mind off walking here! Look at the other lions- they got paint all over them! Look too long and you’re gonna get dizzy. And they got- woaaaaaaaaaa…”
He came to a stop and bumped Paki’s shoulder with his own. “One of them has wings! Real ones! I wonder if they can fly- I wonder if we can get wings too!”
”That’s just stupid.” Paki grumbled. He glanced ahead, barely able to see over the migrating bodies ahead of them but sure enough- wings. Quietly impressed he craned his neck to get a better look. Wings would be nice… then he’d be able to keep up. Or get away. Depending on what he wanted.
”Is not!” Pit protested sharply. “It’s just wishful thinking.”
Chrodechild settled in closer to her pride mate and scanned the gathering. None of Howi’s clan seemed entirely eager to join the festival. Perhaps with good reason. Kohana was never exactly a social butterfly and Rehema was getting up in her years and had very little involvement when it came to festivities anyway. She kept herself occupied with her growing family and seemed to take pride in that simple joy. Nekoda… heavens that boy. She made a face. He was likely lost somewhere. Up a tree, in a cave, perhaps he’d managed to get off the mountain this time. His offspring had a varying degree of their own problems. Some would never be content with their coats and would spend the day grooming themselves bald while the other half would likely be off chasing butterflies.
“There’s so many strangers here.” She said, drawing herself back to the present. “Nothing like us…most of them a bit larger than your blood-kin.”
”Everyone’s bigger than my blood-kin.” Howi pointed out with a laugh. It was sad, but very, very true. The ela weren’t known for their height or stature. Malik made constant reference to that in fact. Now -he- was a monster. Chrodechild took more after her father both in size and in appearance. The later he would have to trust to those that had described her.
“I wonder what happened…”
”They don’t look entirely happy. Most of them.” She noted. “Perhaps there’s trouble off the mountain.”
