Leighton stopped about a foot away from her. --dare question you! Kill her! She is no use to you anyway! the voice came clear. It was saying to kill Suki. Leighton slowly turned to her. "I'm a demon." he said vaguely. His eyes looked as if they were deep with sorrow. "All we demons ever feel is pain and sorrow."
Lilly crinkled her forehead. "What about love?" she asked.
Leighton shuttered. He closed his eyes for a brief moment and continued slowly flying. The voice was chuckling in his head. Leighton, you must forget about that girl Kyree. She died last year, how long do you need? the voice laughed. Leighton clenched his fists as he flew.
Lilly raised an eyebrow. "Must be a touchy subject."

Alex's eyes darted open when she kissed her. He felt his lips with two fingers in shock. "Yeah." he said numbly. Alex pointed to the roof of a sky rise and spread his wings. He jumped into the air and flew up to the roof and landed hard enough to make a dent in the cement floor. He flopped himself onto the ledge while he waited for Scarlett.

Leighton sighed as he remembered all the horrible memories when he lived in The Gates of Fire, outside the human world in a whole other realm. How his brother and wife died in the war against the angels. He fought back tears and dove down closer to the ground. About a minute later he turned onto Hickory Lane.
Lilly smiled and nodded. She expected her house to look magical but then expected it to look normal. That was the only thing Leighton's book didn't include, the housing. Now she knew why; he didn't have one.

Scarrlet sighed. "In a month tops. The sooner the better." She felt a single tear streak down her cheek. Scarrlet wanted Alex to wipe it away, to kiss her, to promise that he wasn't shocked in a bad way.

Suki grabbed a key and unlocked the shabby house. "Welcome home!" She said as she flicked each of the lights on. "Are you hungry?" She asked Lilly and Leighton cautiously, seeing the shimmering water in Leightons eyes.

Alex looked into her eyes. "Why are you crying?" he asked as he placed his hand on hers by accident. But he kept it there.

Suki went to the stairs and glanced at Leighton. "The bathroom is the first door on the right if you need a moment. I'll be right back." Suki said with a friendly smile, but her eyes showed a completely different emotion. They showed protective instincts, and fear. "Just yell if you need something." Running up the stairs, Suki rushed to her room. Under her bed there was a bottle of Protective Serum for The Hunted. Grabbing the bottle, she poured it into a glass of water that she intended on giving to Lilly. "I'm not letting her take another life. Even is Scarrlet is my blood sister, she's not going to get through me again." Suki muttered to herself. Returning downstairs with a calm expression would be the hardest part. She made to the stairs and waited for a minute, then slowly descended the steps one by one until she reached the bottom step.

Leighton cleared his throat. "I'm fine. Thank you." he replied as he stuffed his hands in his pockets. He looked over at Lilly and continued to study her. You're alone with her now. Kill her! the voice echoed in his head. He noticed Lilly was giving him a pained look so he looked away. Kill her? Why?

Lilly shuffled her feet uncomfortably at Leighton's continuous stare. Why was he so interested in her? Duh. I'm a human. she thought. Lilly perked up when Suki came back downstairs and smiled at her, then noticed the cup in her hand. Suddenly she clutched head and screamed. There was a sharp pain in her brain as if there was a knife being jarred into her head. She heard strange voices, though one was familiar. Kill the girl and Leighton the familiar voice said. Then the strange one, sounding demonic and was a man came in. I can help you. Lilly fell to the floor in a crumpled mess. She screamed and still clutched her head.

Lilly groaned. If she let go of her head, she felt as if her head would explode. That wouldn't be a very good first impression on her new friends.

Leighton knelt to her and wrapped his dark wings around her. They radiated a foggy light that eased the pain away. Slowly, Lilly released her head. She felt a single tear run down her cheek and she gasped for air. Leighton stood. She has powers, Leighton! Soon she will gain more. You must destroy her before she grows stronger! the voice said. Leighton sighed. "She's no human." he turned and put a hand on his hip and ran the other through his hair. He stared at the ground in thought.
