Crust Gambit The Bijoux Crust Gambit Tear-Ruh I finally saw The Lovely Bones. I thought it was pretty good, but some parts were kind of disappointing.. =/ 3.7/5 That movie was atrocious. gonk I only went to see it in the cinema because I had a free ticket. Anyway. Eraserhead. That was the second time, I believe. Still a brilliant movie and oddly fitting to my current life situation. I still find it hard to believe it's from '76. But then again, it being black and white gives it a sort of timelessness. 4.8/5 It's fitting to your current life situation? eek But yeah, Eraserhead is a great movie. My wife's pregnant. And that kinda stuff comes with all kinds of stress and fear. I think that if I had watched it some other day, I would've given it a 5/5. Wasn't really in the mood for it, but decided to watch it anyway. The "family dinner" - scene must be the most awkward thing in the history of movies. I agree. The dinner scene in particular just makes you feel so uncomfortable. I really enjoyed the movie and thought it was great, but I don't think I'll be watching it again any time soon. Haha.
On a lighter note I just re-watched Before Sunrise. Such a beautiful film. 5/5. I've gotta go re-watch Before Sunset now.

I've seen most of the big 2010 films recently:
Black Swan: 5/5
Probably my favorite movie of the year. I'm a sucker for weird psychological thrillers. Seems like the melodramatic campiness of the movie was lost on some people? I think it's kind of necessary with these kinds of movies. If they take themselves too seriously they seem to stumble even more.
127 Hours: 5/5
I love Danny Boyle's directing and his films always have fantastic use of music. James Franco gave his best performance that i've seen and the offbeat cinematic flourishes that were used as his character started to lose it were a nice touch. His situation probably could have been shown as a bit bleaker, but the film never really lost its power despite knowing the outcome (as it's based on a true story).
The Social Network: 4/5
I didn't think I was going to like this despite thoroughly enjoying David Fincher's work. But I liked it quite a bit and seemed like it was over in no time. Justin Timberlake surprised me. Who knew he could actually act? On its own, I wasn't blown away by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross' soundtrack, but within the movie it was very effective and enjoyable.
I was expecting Zuckerberg to get dumped in a trash can the entire time by those twin frat bros. Spoiler: he wasn't.
The Ghost Writer: 3.5/5
The directing was enjoyable and Pierce Brosnan and Olivia Williams were good as usual. I've never been a big fan of Ewan McGregor, but he was effective enough here. The film was slow as it gradually built up what was going on in it.. I just don't really think it turned out to be anything terribly interesting. The final scene was memorable. I don't know, i'm having a hard time figuring out my feelings on this one.
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: 5/5
Criminally underappreciated. My only complaint really is that Kim & Ramona's hair looked weird and off.
I imagine the awesome visuals will be copied as much as bullet time in the coming years. If not than.. that's unfortunate, because bullet time looks retarded outside of The Matrix, people.
As for older movies:
Insomnia (Christoper Nolan's): 3.5/5
Not my favorite movie of his and i've never seen the original. Robin Williams and Al Pacino were good and the setting of Alaska was really nice. The motives behind the two's actions are the focus and engaging enough where I don't think the 'lol can't sleep -_-' gimmick was really necessary.
It's possible I may have lowered the score for having to endure Hilary Swank. Ugh.
The Prestige:
Rewatched this. A rating doesn't do this movie justice because it's pretty much the best thing ever. I think they should have done something differently with the ending, though. I think that took away from it all some.
I love how you get caught up in Algier's rambling that things are much stranger than it seems. David Bowie as Tesla is just awesome.
There are clues throughout, even right off, that help you piece things together. Revelations don't just come out of nowhere; which is way too common.

Boxing Helena. Okay, first off, the movie wasn't really what I was expecting. I mean... I kept hearing about it from people (my wife, mostly), but since the only thing I ever really got was the plot synopsis, I wasn't sure what to expect. My wife liked it a lot and she doesn't really like gory movies, but still, I couldn't help but to expect unnecessarily long "la la la, cutting off your limbs"-scenes. Which is nowhere near what I actually got. There was almost no blood in the movie. It was psychological, yes, but in the way that all the important things about the movie were basically given to you on a silver platter. Not a big fan of that. The actors did well, I'd say (besides, I like Sherilyn Fenn), even the guy who played the mandatory douchebag. Sure, he was annoying as hell, but isn't that kinda the point of that type of character? Also, Art Garfunkel. He looked like a koala.
I'm really bad at this "rate on a scale of numbers from X to Z". But I guess I'd give it a 2.8 out of 5. It was okay, but I don't know if I'd watch it again.
Also: Sorry if my post(s) look retarded, I'm not on my own computer and p. much everything looks funny in some way on this screen.
