"G-good m-morning," Jahi said nervously. His anxiety grew when Marseth informed him who the customers were. "It's a p-p-p-leasure to meet you."

Jahi's voice trembled, and with embarassment quickly climbed down the stairs backwards. Slipping at the step second from the bottom, the uluen flat on his stomach at the base of the ladder. Shaking his head, Jahi scrambled to his feet and greeted Council Member Akhetnnami and her apprentice, Shandar. His legs trembled, and he kept his head low; afraid to look up after his embarassing entrance.

Shandar gave the book shop woman a glance. Behave, of course he would behave. Though he wasn't too keen on being left with these strangers it would be useful to get to know people, being Akhetnnami's apprentice seemed to carry some kind of status with it.

Supressing a smirk as the kitten fell on his stomach. The poor thing appeared to have some kind of speech impediment and a nervous twitch. Shandar smiled with false warmth. This could be fun.
"I would like to stay." He said simply sitting and curling his tail around him.

"Well, then. That settles it, I guess," Marseth said. "I suppose I'll see you this evening?"

"If I don't show up by nightfall, could you bring him by my brother's house?"

"Fine, fine," she grumbled. Akhetnnami bowed in thanks, then exited.

Marseth turned to the two. "Well, if you're hungry, you'd best head upstairs. I open the shop in fifteen or so minutes, and I expect for you two to stay out of the way on the third floor. Try not to make too much noise."

Bowing politely as the council member took her leave, Jahi released a small sigh. Akhetnnami's beauty was a sight to behold, but she sounded a bit cold and indifferent. Jahi's eyes followed her as she exited.

Jahi didn't like the gleam he caught in Shandar's eye. His stomach lurched when Marseth indicated that she wanted them to climb back up to the third floor.

"Follow me, please, Shandar," Jahi said, motioning to the ladder. "The steps are a bit steep, so please watch your step."

Jahi returned to the ladder, and commenced climbing. He didn't wait for Shandar to follow suit as he was older and probably stronger than him. Scurring clumsily, the kitten strained to ascend the steps. Jetlagged and fatigued, Jahi laid at the top of the third landing; awaiting his new associate.

Shandar followed the kitten up the ladder with only a few slips. Breathing heavily when he got to the top, that had been a workout he hadn't expected.

Glancing around he looked back down at the kitten.
"Did you come from Barton?" He asked in the native tongue of those that lived in Barton. A language he was much more used to.

Marseth took to rummaging about the shop, looking for binding materials. She'd let the two boys have their fun while she got to work. If they knocked something down, though, so help her...

"Yes, I lived with a teacher who lives just outside of town," Jahi said, motioning to a carpet space for Shandar to sit on. "I wasn't there very long before I returned here."

Jahi felt relieved to find someone who spoke the same language he did. Marseth used only the tongue of their kind, but it was one he was not too familar with. Sometimes, he wished Kalena waited a little longer before shipping him off on this adventure.

"What about you, Shandar," Jahi asked, curling up on a corner of the rug. "Have you been here long?"

Shandar sat on the rug and swished his tail.
"A teacher, how interesting." He said in a bored tone, looking around the dusty room.
"I came from Barton too. I lived with a ..." He paused realising he had no clue what Hakim did for a living. "a collector." He said inspecting his claws. "He collects ancient artifacts. I have been here one night, just like you."

Shandar stifled a jetlagged yawn and glanced down at the carpet.
"What is your mentor like?" He asked smoothly.

Sekhmet grumbled as she once again entered the bookstore. Oh, how she wished she could read, then maybe she might have been happy coming here. If it wasn't for Marseth that is. She was still funny looking and rude, Sekhmet doubted she'd change her opinion. Besides, Kane didn't like her either.

Kane... He was doing this just to spite her. Then again, he didn't like Marseth either, so maybe he was sending her on her own to avoid going himself. She shook her head. Her mentor wasn't a coward. Or, at least, she didn't think he was.

So she busied herself by looking around for the bug-eyed female. Okay, so she wasn't really bug-eyed, but the glasses she wore made Sekhmet think so.

When she didn't automatically see her, she put the basket down and coughed a little, hoping to get her attention.

'Just get the book and get out. Just get the book and get out,' she thought a short little mantra as she waited for Marseth to appear.

Marseth, being the attentive shop owner she was, had developed a sort of six sense when it came to detecting customers in her shop. It never worked, though, so it was more dumb luck that she spotted Sekhmet waiting by the door. Curious as to why the girl was visiting (and without that stuck-up fool of a mentor), Marseth hurried out from her little work area.

"Oh, it's you. Kanesakht send you?" she asked, glancing up at the rest of the shop. She'd hate to think of the chaos that'd ensure with three youngsters running around the shop.

Sekhmet cleared her throat again and nodded, biting back a snide tone.

"Yes, ma'm, he did. He said that you were rebinding for him. He told me to retrive it if you were done and to charge it to his account. Once I'm done here I have the day off," she replied with a nod of her head. She allowed her eyes to wander a little bit at the books and she perked up her ears at a sound. It sounded like voices, coming from upstairs. This brought her to look at the stairs for a second before returning her look to Marseth.

"It's almost finished. You can either wait here and behave yourself, or come back later."

Marseth followed the girl's glance. "My apprentice is upstairs, talking with Akhetnnami's.

Sekhmet frowned a little, her duty to Kane came first. She didn't want to wander before her job was done.
"How long do you think it would take? I'd rather not leave without it if it's almost done," she said a little uncertain then glanced at the stairs again.

"I didn't know that Akhetnnami have an apprentice. And you have one as well?" she asked and smirked a little, raising an eyebrow. "How's that working for you?" she asked in a little, sarcastic tone.

"Depends. If you keep on distracting me," she muttered, "it might take a few hours. Leave me alone, and I'll see what I can do.

"Yeah, turns out hers just arrived back from the upper world a few days ago. Jahi, mine, was just brought here last night. They're getting to know one another, I suppose. I'm not stepping in unless there's rough-housing."

She looked Sekhmet up and down. "You passed the first test, huh? Good job. You know, I think Shandar, or whatever his name is, is around the same age as you are. You can always go upstairs and see the two boys."
