There was something suspicious going on. Whereever, however, it was happening, it seemed likely Kael might be seeing it. He was already panicked and jumping to conclusions though. He should have been thinking, but he wasn't.

If he got zapped to nothing, there would be no thinking, or chance of helping these other people soon.

"Unghf-"

He landed hard on the snow mobile behind Sam, leaning into her and wrapping his arms around her middle. His long sword's tip, though sheathed, was going to trail in the snow with it on his belt, why it had been on his back before. But there was no time for that, it would stay on.

"Alright, go!"

They were going to see if they couldn't find saftey from an imagined thread.

They were soon going to have to worry about something much different.

"Motherfu-"

He put a foot down.

"Cancel all'a that. This isn't-"

His radio crackled, and Kael shot a panicked look down to where Joseph's message would be coming in through his and Sam's radios. Maybe the zombie hobos wouldn't have noticed them initially, but standing next to a- probably running- snow mobile and having the radio shout at you was not a good way to stay hidden for too long.

Kael's finger dropped, fumbling, and repressed the button.

"Nice of you to invite company-" his voice sounded strained, not humorous. "-I'm comin' back."

Sam was probably going to hate him for first sending them flying out of the city into the open with these things, then back in toward all of them. But that wasn't the point. Disappearing wasn't something he could fight, these were- and so long as he could fight it, and there were people inside... they had some time at least.

He started to draw the sword, then faltered, realizing he was facing a bunch of approaching hobo-zombies on foot, with a sword, and just as quickly dropped back onto the back of the snow mobile, drawing his sword out anyway and holding it up quickly.

"We need back in- keep 'em to our right if you have to. We can trim on a pass or two," he spoke increasingly quickly and loudly as the zombies approached, "but we need in fast."

The sword turned over, four foot long blade jutting out to his right, and Kael gripped his left firmly over the hilt, laying his right armored palm against the base of the blade and gripping tight with his fingers.

Sword-clothesline coming up.

Sam nodded. "This is probably one of the more idiotic ideas I've ever seen. But knowing this place, it'll probably work." At least they still had snow. Once she'd seen that the other machines were untouched, she knew they wouldn't be leaving.

"The best thing I can say, is grip onto the back of my thighs with yours so you don't fall off. I'm going to pull some pretty chopping moves." She thought about it, and yanked her bag open. "Better yet." She pulled out a length of rope, while making sure to keep an eye on the zombies that were creeping closer.

She twisted in her seat, and tied the rope around his waist, and then around her own. And then to the handlebar of the snowmobile for extra security. It'd be a horrible way to die, but still preferable to zombies.

"Still grip with your thighs to mine though. I won't break, I promise." Just because she was a girl didn't mean she couldn't handle the pressure. Then she turned back, and reved the machine.

"Just tell me when." And when the signal was given, the machine would go forward, making sure to stay to the left of the zombies. And keeping them to the right.

Working quickly, and silently, he started at trying to squeeze his thighs on the snow mobile and hook his lower legs in front of hers, and then changed the plan and as soon as the rope was done- watching the zombies anxiously- moved up tight against her back and put his thighs over hers, squeezing tight, and hooked his heels around the fronts of her legs. No time to make comments about women who could hold up playing rough, or linger the whole positioning bit and certain resemblances.

"Just tell me whe-"
"Go."

He calmly interrupted, and let the kick of starting forward pull his upper body to lean back just a little, relying on his stomach to hold that sitting position without hugging his chest to her back- giving enough space to hold the sword there, and ready the blade, sharp ends forward and backward.

Teeth clenched and he watched the undead-ish things come after them, letting her pull around. He had no space to swing the sword so he just held it, hands keeping a loose grip until-

tshhhhhhhhhhhhhht-!

One came close and he readied the blade, gripping tight with both hands- and winced as he felt the blade bite into his leather, pressing a thin line of blood from his hand as the first zombie struck the sword. Normally that would have been bad for him to try like this, but the whole "skinny as hell" thing that skeleton-robo-zombies assumably had going on at the waist was helpful- letting his sword chop right through the thing.

He didn't comment or groan, just loosen his hand and watched for the next as they zipped along, ready to flip to repeat this on the left side if any ended up over there. He couldn't do much to swing because Sam was in the way, but he could at least make sure nothing was going to be there to jump at the passing vehicle or try and grab it/them while the pass was made.

It was just a question of how many more they passed, and how much that'd bite into his hand before they got into the city or had to take desperate measures.

The zombies seemed to have something against anything mechanical or living. Something they were both and yet neither and it pissed them off to the highest degree.

One of the zombies as Kael sliced through it it clung to the sword, and reached for Sam.

She responded by slinging her arm out and grabbing the zombie to pull it off his sword, and sliced her shirt, and just a bit of her own skin.

"Raise it higher. If they're like most zombies, it's the head you have to take off to stop them!"She yelled and tried to keep her teeth from chattering. The dusting of snow was light, but it was getting colder as the moments passed.

"-s**t!"

He snarled silently, looking quickly from her arm out and around, mind spinning through a wheel of repeating thoughts.

Head? Get the head how? I don't have the room to get a solid blow-

With a groan, Kael leaned way back, laying his back against what little vehicle there was behind him, using the base for his lower back to hold himself from slipping off the thing. Practically laying down, he turned the sword around, switching to right hand on the pommel and left on the cross guard.

"I got it. Just get us in there."

He bit into his bottom lip and measured his breathing, getting ready to catapult up if he needed to and put the point through a throat or skull.

"I'm trying, cowboy!" If she could have turned around and seen him, she'd really be calling him cowboy.

They tried another swing through. And it seemed there were even more zombies than before and Sam was tempted to stop and grab her rifle, but she wanted to keep the momentum going.

They made another pass, but there would be zombie after zombie this way, and hoped Kael could handle it.

Alright, we're hittin' it-

They weren't making a trail on the vehicle fast enough to lead away, so Kael went with plan B.

Cutting them down until the group thinned out enough.

As they came for their next pass Sam would feel the pressure against her waist and legs as a whole increase slightly, Kael's hips grinding against hers as he made a partial turn to the left and sat up, making a thrust high right through the face of the first zombie on their pass.

That was two hobo-zombies down.

He wasn't done there.

As long as he was partially upright Sam would feel Kael doing more crazy shifting as is feet pushed down on hers. Legs pressing and rubbing on hers, his weight going down at the same time as she'd feel him leaning slightly into her and rising up- he was just hoping the poor girl could keep driving right during it all.

Kael couldn't hold that long, half-standing behind her almost as if trying it from behind someone else in a saddle would be damned hard. For a single pass though, he could grit his teeth and, hissing breath between his teeth, stay up and leaned forward just long enough to hold his sword out and up to the side. Standing to be clear of clocking her in the back of the head with the guard trying to get this positioning, reaching around and adjusting slightly to clip the heads of zombies, shattering heads and splitting them wide open, though few were cut entirely apart or off, deep cuts taking chunks out of heads would kill most living things- he head to hope it would work for the living-mechanical.

At the pull of of their pass he'd end, one final adjustment to turn it into a swing, taking the head of the last zombie clean off with a short swipe, and teetered for a moment until they pulled away, and fell hard down onto his a** again behind her.

"Fuh..." he panted, trying to recover and get ready for another round. "-how much more do you need to make it through?"

It was a matter of how many zombies were making an appearance on the scene, and how well Sam could manage to negotiate them.

"Somehow I think it's going to get thicker as we go in..." Sam ground out as she pulled to a stop to get a look over what they had to overcome. If they took out those three. She could slide along as long as no others moved faster than these guys...

She pointed without looking at him just yet. " If we take out those three. I think we can get past. Duck!" But as she spoke, this time she picked up her own rifle, and fired a shot right at a zombie's head, the metal shrapnel flying everywhere, but Sam had managed to turn the snowmobile so that the glass shield and she got more of it than the more defenseless Kael. But luckily, even the damage she took wasn't much. Just a few scraps to the face. But she was getting damned cold.

"We'll be able to get past them a lot better out of the deeper snow, on our feet. Just have to take a couple back roads and keep running."

He turned his blade over, off to the side of them, looking up and down the blade- glaring at it rather. These things were made of metal. Because of it, this wasn't like the mild wear and tear his modern steel would be getting on bone, no, no, no. His blade was getting ******** up fast. He could still hack and chop zombies plenty well but if this went on for ever and ever it could break, and even before that it'd start-

"Uh?"

He got down, fast, shifting to half-sword grip and doing about the only ducking he could manage the way he was seated right against her-

Sword on their right, leaned to their left, face buried into her side.

Yeah. If they hadn't been in the middle of fighting zombies and s**t there would have been more than a few comments about all this s**t he was doing trying to take care of them and keep steel out of his ********! Alright, gimme half a sec warning before we tear off."

And with a tremendous shower of sparks and blast of twisted metal did the rifle's round slam right into the RoboZombie's head, leaving a huge gaping gash where the top half of its head was supposed to be. The robot studdered, seeming to stumble as it fell to the ground, chest flat on the nose of the snowmobile, arms to each side, doing nothing but twitching mindlessly, and doing a good job of scratching up the paintjob.

The other two, meanwhile, were coming in, both at the same time. Each was about 7 feet from the snowmobile, one just one step off the left side of the vehicle, one just one step off the right side of the vehicle. And they werent' shuffling their feet, going "Braaaaaaaaaaains!", as they broke out into the pace of a light jog towards the two humans and the vehicles.

Meanwhile... much too far back to be a factor here, as they were a full block away, four more appeared fromaround a corner, breaking into that strange, bumpy, mechanical jog as they spotted the stopped snowmobile. They would be too late to stop them from out running them and leaving the district... as long as they started moving again.

Sam fired off another quick shot right at one's head before shoving the rifle back under her arm. It was still in a sling and therefore attached. Was good enough. She didn't want to look around and see if there were anymore coming.

"Okay. Leaving now!"

That was all the warning Kael would get before Sam kicked the snowmobile into another gear, throwing him forward slightly before it revved back and then shot forward. She was just going to run the last damned one over. And then they should be in the clear for the Hovel area.

And with another explosion as metal hit skull, the left half of the Robot-Zombie fell. He seemed locked into a pattern, still taking two more steps before his sense of balance was finally effected, sending him into the snow, still tyrign to "jog" through it, though slowly winding down.

The last zombie, was not so lucky. As the snowmobile charged, the one on the nose was pulled under, the sharp, jagged metal of the machine wrecking havock on the vehicle as it ploughed over him. No serious damage was inflicted, though there was a greast crack in the front runner, and large gouges in the undercarriage as it was finally left behind, mangled, abused, and dead... again.

And then there was the last one. It made no attempt to dodge the snowmobile, at all. The vehicle ploughed into it, slamming into its legs... and causing it to pitch foreward. Over the nose, over the windshield. And with claws outstretched iwth the single mindedness of a Robot and a Zombie, coming in to claw and rake, and latch onto, at the nearest exposed bits of flesh as it tumbled into that ball of Kael and Sam.

"Alrig- UNGHF! Wait, you- OOF!"

Kael bounced about, trying to sit back up and straighten out again as she began moving, having a moment of trouble as he adjusted to the vehicles motion- and then all of the sudden they bounced as they ran over one zombie, and pitched straight into another.

Kael made a startled sound at the impact again, opening up his eyes to-

"s**t!Down, SAM!"

Chances were it had claws on her or near enough already, but there was no time to stop and think about that. Kael leaned up and forward like before, but this time he put his shoulder into the back of her neck and leaned- forcing Same down almost face against the dashboard as he leaned forward and onto her, thrusting the tip of his sword forward in his half-sword grip. With the guiding hand halfway down the blade he had the advantages of both close range fighting and aim-

Sticking the blade right into the beasts open mouth. He twisted and leaned quickly, sinking back in his seat and upending the blade, pulling it up and over the windshield, pushing up as he went to try and keep it from grabbing him as it went. Continuing backward until he was slipped nearly off of the motorcycle, leaned back to where he was feeling cold snow kicked up into his hair and onto the back of his head, and effectively tried to lever the zombie over and around them, flinging it into the snow behind them.

Which would leave him leaned too far back, flailing helplessly with head picking up more and more snow. Unless of course he was stuck wrestling a zombie in that position, in which case s**t was about to get real.

"UGH!"

Sam was slammed forward, and barely managed to keep her eyes on the 'road' so to speak. It got some of her hair, and raked a bit into her scalp, but Kael managed to get it off quickly enough. As the weight was lifted off of her, she reached back with one hand and grabbed the rope that tied them together, and yanked him forward as hard as she could.

That was just too much weight gone, in her opinion, so she thought it best to make sure he was still attached. And then they zoomed into the hovels.
