The latter would have implied I looked down on other people. 'Self-respect' refers only to my attitude towards myself. I DO look down on people who write unoriginal, overpowered s**t without at least some form of style.

I ran into my friend at Wal-Mart the other day.
It was nice to see him after a long time.
His dad had this huge thing of peaut butter in his cart, though.
