Maybe I'd be one of those people who looks like I'd die, but then I get all Sarah Connor and rip into those zombies. Then, I'd liberate Toronto from the scourge, building a barrier and setting up a post-apocalyptic haven.

Probably a bad idea, you know those places always get blown up in the end.

Ugh for the life of me I can't make a reel for me that I like!

I had to go animate an intro before I was satisfied with mine.

Course, not that intro is scraped and I'm making a new one but 'shrugs' tis the life of an artist.

Are you using stock music or otherwise?

I got my zombie apocalypse plan.

part 1. acquire transportation. preferably the car, not the scooter. if my parents are not turned, take them, same applies to brother and sister in law.

part two.clear out a walmart supercenter. sacrifice brother and possibly father as distractions to get to the camping/hunting/outdoors section for weapons and ammunition.

part three. once the interior is secured, along with any other survivors that were present during the securing that were not used as bait or distractions..barricade the doors with furniture, and have the power to the auto doors shut off.

part 4. nominate a semi intelligent yet expendable person to monitor the security cameras. (expendable because should the horde break through the doors, that room will probably be one of the first broken into and there's only 1 way in, 1 way out)

part 5. use the electronics and outdoors departments long range/short range radios and walkie talkies for commincation purposes both inside and to the outside. use the scissorlift as a makeshift guard tower at the center of the store...and as a getaway vehicle if needed for myself and maybe sister in law.

other then that, ration out food and supplies as needed. since super centers have a pharmacy, and a grocery section. usually as well a place like subway/mcdonalds there. plenty of clothes, movies and games to keep people entertained, and more then enough guns, knives, bows, and arrows. as well as things like mini gas tanks for portable stoves (and 'triggerable' grenades) car batteries and rechargers for power needs, and laptop and desktop computers with the manager offices have online access ports.

I want to animate, but she's not letting me because she says I won't have enough time and I don't need to lock myself in as "just an animator".

I'll probably scrap this intro later but we're doing an art exibition so I need something done that I'm at least pleased with. I'm on my fourth idea which I think I can work out.

It's stock, but it's purchase stock so I own it legally to use as I please. All 17 versions of said music.

And you best hope you get to the walmart before the zombies do, or stupid people for that matter.

Wow Jason, you've never read 'The Zombie Survival Guide' have you?

Rule number one: NO VEHICLES! Loud noises attract zombies and run on fuel. So if you're lucky enough to have a full tank when you start out, it's won't last you 4 hours, depending on it's efficiency. Roads are going to be chocked with accidents and abandoned vehicles, and most cars aren't suitable for off-roading. Meaning you are going to be blocked 80% of the time.

The best vehicle is actually a bike. It makes no noise, requires no fuel, can fit through small openings, can be carried where necessary and can easily go off road.

Rule number two: Steer clear of department stores, malls and shops. These, along with gas stations, are going to be the first to be flocked to by survivors. Being large, they are hard to secure. Having thin walls and large windows, you're easy to spot and hear. Restaurants don't hold that much food, a lot is delivered daily or bi-weekly, and won't hold much. Once you loose electricity, anything in coolers or fridges will soon rot.

The number of people at these things will be hard to govern, and with food running out quickly, people are going to make mistakes and run for it, putting the rest of you in danger.

Places like hospitals and schools will be the 2nd most flocked buildings because of their size.

Rule three: Carry as few weapons as possible, for long range a rifle is best, but you're going to want to keep something like an axe around you. Not good for swarms, but in swarm situation, you're pretty much effed up anyway.

And during a zombie Apocalypse, you can bet your butt our power supply won't last more than a day our two without maintenance. At best, the hoover dam might...MIGHT...keep the southern areas of the states going for a year, provided provided power lines don't go down. So I don't really see how you'd plan to use computers, or the internet for that matter, when there is no electricity.

EDIT

Actually, from what I understand, the hoover dam could actually keep running for 5-7 years without human maintenance. But because of a foreign muscle infestation in the lake, it's estimated it won't last much more than a year. The muscles clog the pipes that run water to keep the equipment from overheating, and when that thing overheats, the whole system shuts itself down.

I don't know if it's different in the states, but since I'm not selling my demo reel, I can use whatever music I want and it's legal. Course, just to be on the safe side, I asked permission of the artist for the song I wanted to use. They said yes, so I'm using it, but legally, I didn't have to.

I don't see how using an animated intro pegs you as just as animator since with most animation courses you should have animation, character design, layout, prop design, life drawing, video editing, voice recording and story boarding classes.

"Free reign of music use under student protection" period is over for these pieces as they are intended to be professional presentation for potential jobs. So we have to legally get the rights to use a song by whatever means we use.

Well...to clients who see only animation, it's likely they're going to think that. Or so says the professor.
PostPosted: Sun Jul 05, 2009 1:37 pm

*Shrugs* Different professors are going to say different things. I wouldn't argue with a professor though, specially if they were mine. They are older than I am. eek

And I didn't mean for student use, anyone can make a demo reel and put whatever music the want. Using demo reels or client pieces for 'personal promotion' is well in our rights. Since we're not making money off of selling your demo reel, everything's cool.

Also, there are a lot of pieces that are free domain now, since copyrights only last until 50 years after the death of the owner. Course, bigger places like Disney are pushing for 75 years. They makes lots of money off of those music rights.

We were brainwashed to be oh so careful about these sorts of things. Don't want to crunch toes and what not.

This is why we can't share nice things. People are greedy.

that guide assumes also that the zombie will be a slow moving thing. if that's the case, yes, your bike idea works. if it's not, your bike rider is a snack on a platter that happens to move. I'm no where near physically fit, and I can run down and unseat a bike rider. I have before.

my plan uses walmart because my home has no weapons other then my two daggers and walking stick. I'll need to be able to get weapons/supplies...and walmart is a thirty minute walk, a 2 minute drive from here.

I am not above or beyond critically injuring other people and throwing them to the wolves as needed. including family members on a case by case basis. as in, the roads are clogged, I have no probably driving on the sidewalk and running people over on bikes or foot.

in my reckoning of a zombie outbreak, as with lesser animals, I imagine a 'zombie' human who did not critically injure a leg or spine before thier revival will be able to move at speeds they could while living. sure they might fear fire, they might take risks someone with intelligence wouldn't in thier pursuit of food, but I don't think they'll be the slow, foot dragging, shambling things in movies like Night of the living dead. I think they'll be closer to 28 days. carnivorous, moving at thier usual pace, vicious beastial things.

So while the plan of fortifying/securing a walmart may be flawed, hitting it up for supplies and weapons is a generally good idea.

Hahaha, agreed Frac.

Sure, supplies are good. Supplies are need, obviously. But planning to live in a wal-mart? Not so hot. Lots of people = lots of zombies. Best best is to probably get out of any big cities, since someone is going to think they have the bright idea of trying to burn out a few zombies and end up blowing up most of the place when they hit a gas line.

Normally, I might agree with you about the whole zombie = fast equation, except that I believe the muscle system is a little complex for the zombie virus to move properly. Besides that, depending on the state of decay of the body, which may or may not be quick if you believe the guide (it says that zombies take years and years to completely decay, which I don't believe, since it offers no explanation as to why. A virus can't keep muscle tissue alive by will alone, cells need energy. And since it guite clearly states that zombies don't eat flesh for sustenance, since the stomach is not digesting food, there is no way for fuel to be brought back into the body. Muscle decomposes very quick in open spaces, therefore making movement hindered and loping at best.)

Faulty muscle system means slow zombies.

Depends on the type of zombie. 28 days zombies were never dead, merely infected with a virus that make them murderous cannibals.

A dead/undead zombie would be slow because there are no body processes running save the base instinct/motor functions. Coagulated blood would slow them up, as would atrophying muscles and what not.

You know...I'd like a dead zombie invasion. They would at least fall apart quick and the trouble would be over faster.

Unless what the guide says is true, and they take ages to 'die' as it were.

Me? I'm gonna hope the ice caps last long enough for me to run there, where the zombies will freeze before they reach me!
