Yvette was late to the festival but... it was better to be late than never right? Right? Grabbing one of the candy buckets that was in her favourite colour, she weaved her way through the festival grounds under the watchful eyes of one of the caretakers, taking in all the sights and sounds with much excitement and glee.
"Trick or treat!" She lifted her candy bucket as she bounced on her heels towards one of the friendly stall owners who had gestured for her to come closer. For that, she earned herself a bag of chocolate skulls and a nezubat plushie that was in her favourite colour. Lucky!
It wasn't long until the pair of demons reached a new stall and were greeted with the glowing eyes of turnip lanterns. Laurel didn't mind them very much, but he wasn't so sure about Emma, until they began to bounce up and down at the sight of them.
"Oh, yeah! You like to carve, don't you Emma?" Laurel laughed, holding out the plushie that came with the turnip lantern toward Emma. "Here, I have so many plushies at home! Take this one!"
Emma's eyes grew wide at the sight of the lanterns. They knew some kids might not be fond of them, but to Emma, these lanterns were the greatest thing they'd seen all night! They took theirs happily before spinning toward Laurel as he offered them a plushie. This act of generosity had the purple hair demon blushing.
"Really Laurel? Thank you!" They exclaimed, hugging the plushie close. "I'll cherish it forever!"

Well, while his luck seemed to be running out, Dahlia's seemed to be getting better! He tossed the raisins from the last house into his bucket and gave his daughter a pat on the head. It was starting to get late, even for him, and he had work in the morning. Hopefully Dahlia would get tired and want to go home soon...
Dahlia was delighted by the sight of the candy apple, but still had half a bag of candy corn to munch through. The pink haired hybrid placed the apple in her bucket and shuffled along down the path. There were still so many houses left to see and so much more candy to get! She hoped this night never had to end!

With Lila, her new Vespercat, padding along beside her, Sequoia made her way back to the booths. There were some new games she hadn't seen before, or they were there but she didn't notice because she'd been blinded by her pursuit of nezubat plushies, and she wandered curiously toward them. The bean bag game seemed like the most fun... Maybe she'd give it a go?
"Three tries, please!" She said, patiently waiting for her bean bags to arrive, and tossed them carefully. Only two of her throws managed to reach the inner table, while one went into a cup. She happily walked away with a bag of chocolate skulls, though.

With the success of the previous game in him, Ares was ready to try one more before heading back to the haunted house. What else would be fun to do and net him something good? The imp looked around, finally spotting a game where you just had to ring the bell. From the looks of it, you swung a mallet to hit a lever that would shoot a slider up to try and hit the bell. Those sort of games were easy for him. Sauntering over, he got in line to play.
It didn't take long for the few nightmares ahead of him to take their turn and win a prize. Flashing a grin to the girl who was running the game, he heaved up the mallet and slammed it onto the lever. It flew up with a pleasing whizz and hit the bell loudly. The girl, with a roll of her eyes, gave him his pick of the prizes. She obviously wasn't impressed. Looking through the prizes she offered, Ares snorted and gestured to some cotton candy. "That, then," he told her. The prizes were mostly plushies, sugar skulls, or cotton candy. Out of the three, the cotton candy was the least of the three evils. Sugar skulls would just sit in his room and likely melt and ooze all over his parts.

With a soft smile, Janine lead the Freshling out. He hadn't had many opportunities to really go trick-or-treating in the past, so the geist was excited to give the little one this opportunity. "Ready to get some tasty treats?"
"Yeah!" Izar was nearly bouncing with excitement as he donned his mask. With a sword and fluffy hat, this little pirate was ready to set sail and snag some treasure!
Now since Malachi had managed to get the good stuff going first last time, Hailey decided that she would get to go first this go! So when they were close to the next stop, she actually let go of his hand, dashing over as she shouted "I get first dibs this time!" and shot her little hand right down into the larger bowl sitting out on the porch.
As he stood there, shockingly Hailey-hold free, Malachi couldn't help looking back at his mom. He liked that a lot... he had a mom. And when she smiled at him and motioned him off after his friend with a wave, he smiled back and stood next to Hailey, waiting his turn while curiously wondering what she'd get this time.
And pulling her hand out, Hailey beamed proudly as she held up a bag of candy skulls! "Score!" She shouted out excitedly. She loved the things, so this was AWESOME!
Giggling at his friend, Malachi stepped up to take his turn, reaching in and simply pulling out a small box of raisins. Where as most kids might find them a yucky trick, he was actually quite pleased with this. As he went to set the box of raisins in his bucket, he noticed a pair of eyes watching him just a bit away. Slowly he inched toward the eyes, watching them move as whatever it was that owned them was keeping their distance. Wondering, Malachi pulled the box out of his bucket once again, holding it up and shaking it.
As she watched Malachi act like his weird self, Hailey gave a funny look, plopping herself on the ground. Whatever he was doing, it wasn't too strange for her to see, so she'd just watch and find out what he was up to.
Malachi's steps were slow and he was feeling a little shaky. Who knew what those eyes belonged to. But as he shook the box, the eyes in the shadows started getting closer. And closer. And closer. Oh gosh! Malachi froze where he was as a large Spectrefox stepped close enough to sniff at the box. Eyes wide with amazement, he beamed a smile to his panicking mother, then to his best friend who was sitting there stunned. Slowly as to not scare off the critter, he opened the box and shook out a couple raisins in his hand, giggling at the tickle of the fox's fur tickling as it ate them.

Pepper went all up one street, getting candy from almost every house on it. The first house she'd stopped at had had an elderly couple that had been dressed up as farmers. They'd given her some candy, but as she walked away she touched it and it had felt all gross. It was hard and kinda sticky and she wasn't sure she wanted to keep it. The next house had been much better, giving her the most adorable little paper ghost. Sure it wasn't candy, but it was super cute and she could hang it on her lamp or something. Raffe seemed to really like it too.
Feeling much better about this street, Pepper had continued on her way. A scary looking haunted house had given her some sort of gum, but it smelled weird and she didn't want to try it. Plus, the wrapper said it was Nastee Gum. What sort of horrid person would give out gum that said it was nasty on the wrapper anyway? Pepper thought as she put the thing into her bucket. A couple houses down and she'd knocked on the door to a stern looking lady. The freshling was scared that she was going to get a lecture or that she would get more of that nastee gum, but the lady went back inside for candy. She came back out and dropped some raisins into the proffered pumpkin. "Oh . . thank you," Pepper told her, as she'd told everyone else she'd been to. Even if their treats hadn't been the best, it was still nice to say thank you to everyone.

After having gone up to the next house Yua struggled briefly to climb the steps, but managed after a little bit to reach the porch. She was greeted by a rather happy nightmare, who after commenting on how her pumpkin-drawn face paint looked spooky sent her on her way with a bag of yummy candy corn!
Yua all but had to stop herself from ripping open the bag and chomping down on them this instant! She wanted to save the candy for later and eat it all in one big sitting! After all, that wasn't such a bad decision right? It wasn't like she would get a tummy ache from doing such or anything...
With the fox now firmly at his side--it was so disinclined to leave that he felt it sit down next to his hip--Teo could finally relax. For the first time in his life, he had a pet of his own, and it was...exciting. He was still afraid that his fox would try to run away. That would be crushing--to have gained, and then lost, his first pet on the same night? That would be too much to bear. He just hoped that his new pet would get along well with Mom's fennekits. Mom had a passion for those yipping creatures, and since they were her livelihood as well as her love, she would never let anything live in their house that would threaten them. He knew that fennekits could be trained, but he'd hardly heard anything about spectrefoxes. They could be trained, too, right? He hoped so. He would do so much training for this one! He wanted to be a good pet owner, as well as a kind one. He reached out and stroke its ears. It leaned into his touch. That seemed like a good sign.
He pondered a name for his new friend, then thought of something. He reached over and tugged Cal's sleeve. "What gender is my fox?"
Cal's voice came back, sounding thoughtful. "You mean what sex?" Her voice came back again after a pause. "Female. Why do you ask?"
Now it was Eidil's turn to reach into a box and guess the material. It was the same one that Histeol had just tried. She reached in and felt the slimy substance, and she could see--er, feel--how he had come to that conclusion. Not spaghetti, then...but it was long and thin and slimy...it wasn't alive... "Is it fishing bait? Artificial worms? Feels like Chester brand."
The Chimera opened the box to show her the dark red objects. "Ding, ding! We have a winner! You even guessed the brand right. I think that calls for two prizes. What would you like?"
Eidil pointed out a brown nezubat plush tied to a box of raisins. "That for me," she said. "And the green vespercat for my younger friend here."
"Right you are," the Chimera said. She handed Eidil her bat and raisins, and handed the vespercat toy to Histeol. Histeol squeaked and took it. "Another round?"
Eidil looked to Histeol, who was nodding vigorously. "I think we want to try all of the boxes!"
The Chimera laughed. "I'm glad I brought so many, then!"
The next house was considerably spookier, despite having no decorations whatsoever. The garage door was open, the inside covered in black sheets and lit with a blacklight. In the center of the floor sat a single chair. A Demon sat in the chair. It was completely still. In its lap was a bowl of candy. It looked like...lollipops? That looked tempting. But other than there group, there were two other groups of freshlings and caretakers knotted up on the sidewalk. Kids jostled and shoved each other. "You go!" "No, you go!" "I'm not going in there!!"
Xeno hesitated. He didn't want to skip a house just because a scary guy was there...there was candy to be had. And someone had to go up there. "Excuse me for a moment," Xeno whispered to Eilwen. He dropped her hand and grabbed his father's instead. "Come on," he whispered.
Leading his father up the driveway, he approached the Demon. The Demon did not move. He stepped carefully into the garage, the blacklight lighting up his pale skin. Cautiously he reached into the bowl full of lollipops. Suddenly, the Demon's hand moved! Xeno gave a squeak and scrabbled backwards toward Jurvik's legs. Then he blinked. The hand...had added a nezubat plush to the bowl? The Demon winked.
Xeno smiled. So the Demon had simply wanted to give him a plushie! That wasn't so bad! "Thank you!" Xeno said. "Happy Haunted Hallows!"
"Happy Haunted Hallows to you too," the Demon said in a deep, warm voice. "Have fun out there, all of you."
Tonight was a fun night, in spite of all the rocks weighing down his bucket. Seriously, it was getting ridiculous. How many rocks was he going to get?! He really hoped the bucket didn't break or something. He held it out to the next adult nonetheless. "Trick or treat!" he said. As he said "trick," he pointed to his bucket with his free hand. As he said "treat," he pointed to Foras's bucket. The adult snorted, but dropped a plush in Foras's bucket and, yes, another ___ rock in Batholith's! Nonetheless, the older hybrid smiled, curtseyed, and trilled, "Happy Haunted Hallows!" to the adult.
"Trick or Treat!" Odessa smiled at the attendant as they handed her an adorable little ghost, "Thank you!" She pinned the little guy to her jacket in hopes that it wouldn't get crushed with all the other things that were now filling her pail.
Wandering toward another stall, Kiessi held out they're pail and grinned as they heard a thunk. "Hey, thanks!" He was definitely going to have lots of candy tonight!
Glitched stiffened, almost having been scared out of their imaginary game, but as soon as the gleaming eyes had been there they had disappeared into the darkness just as fast. As well by this point Glitch has made their way back towards their caretaker and the rest of the freshlings he had been traveling with. Unsure of what to do next having seemed the moment of terror has past Glitch kept their mouth closed and resumed back to their playful imagination.
Glitch: "That was a close one rookie. I could have sworn I seen the thief, but I couldn't be sure. It was to dark to make out the features, but just in case I'll keep my eyes peeled on the streets even more. This is good though. We now know we caught their attention. We'll get this sucker in holding in no time."
With newfound vigor they rushed forward to the next house and the next with successful candy grabs all the while still getting the sense that someone or something had their eyes staring at them the whole time. Well- asides from his caretaker. At this point Glitch's nerves were a bit of a wreck, but all the while the suspense and tension of the situation left them sweating with excitement.

Taking the cotton candy, he eased it into his pail and turned to meander away. There were a few more stalls Ares could hit on his way back to the haunted house at least. Maybe if he was lucky he could slip into one of the haunted houses to be scared. Nah. . . don't want to take up too much time.
Lost in thought, he didn't realize anyone was trying to get his attention until a girl grabbed a hold of the back of his shirt. "Wait!. haaa haaa. . . " she panted, face flushed from chasing after him. "The other girl didn't . . haaa. . . didn't give you this," she finished with a squeak, thrusting a vespercat plush into his hand. Before he could say anything or hand it back, the girl had turned and fled into the crowd. Bewildered, he turned the plush over and noticed it was holding some of the nastee gum he already had. "Great, more things I could do without," he muttered exasperatedly.
