pallies get a squire 'pet' but it doesn't do anything. it's been reffered to as teh paladin blowup doll. I think the shadowknights are getting a mounted pet, an armored skeleton on a flaming armored skeletal horse.
I got a lot of little 'tag along' pets.
a beholder, a mass of hearts, a eagleman, a wisp and I think that's it.
conjurer pets get different appearances based on thier tier/level.
fire pets are flames shaped in human form with a red robe, earth pets are commonly Tremor style worms or humanoid golems...air pets are humaoid mists that wear armor and dual wield weapons.
water pets are neatest I think. it's a swarm of aquatic aminals made of water. sharks, manta rays, octopi.
necro fighters are skeletons/gargoyles, scouts are shadows in human form or vampires, mages are a lamia or demon themed skeleton, thier swarm pet is animals, like rats, flaming boars and such.

guild wars might be fun, but I'm not a PvP person. it annoys me to no end in games like these, because of the huge gaps in power.
like as a paladin, I'm designed to take alot of damage, but not dish it out. and becuase of this, tanker classes are so easy to kill it's not funny, except when fighting a healer.
becaue mages and rogue types are designed to dish out MASSIVE damage. a mage may only have 1/3 my hp, but each of his hits takes down 1/4 or more of mine, while my hits take maybe 1/8th of his a swing. not to mention control spells.

GW isn't solely PvP. I hate playing PvP because some people are cheap. I'm a PvE person myself. And the playign field is pretty level with the level cap they have on players. All about strategy.
Yay for Ranger/Monk combos.

oh, then you've never played against a decent chanty.
I know Chanties in Eq that can take out 3 and 4 people with ease. it's all about the charm.
enchanters in eq can in pvp, literally take your character from you, and use them as a pet, or send you running off into mobs, off cliffs, drown you, whatever for as long as the charm spell lasts when it hits.
course, high Mental resists make it harder for them to do that, and thier charm don't last near so long..but I literally saw a chanty kill four people by charming the rogue an backstabbing them to hell. while they were chasing him down.

there's nothing like seeing a chanter make someone willing run into the waiting jaws of death, literally.
