well you set it per model. but I think it'd still be much easier to erase 12 frames, then go over the same 3 frames 8 times tweaking a bone so that a knee doesn't go out the back of his leg two feet or straight up to his hip, or out to the side ten feet. then getting it so the bend in the back of the leg doesn't bend like rubber, or like his leg didn't suddenly atrophy like he was mummified from the knee down.

but I wager your right, the timeframe will even out over time. but I think the big difficulty killer between the two is leeway.

like a 2d squirrel. you draw his outline, and give him the detail that you need for 2d, which honestly isn't all that much. some shading effects. similar to the Beast in beauty and the beast.

in 3d, you have to make the fur look like fur. that big poofy squirrel tail has to look fluffy and poofy. if you watched the Shrek extra, they mention that on Donkey, one miskey turned him into a huge puffball that made it look like his fur was statically charged.

Start with an outline? Are you ******** crazy? That would kill us 2ders. surprised hnoes: I start by drawing a line of action, then biuld shapes over that. Gestures. Use curves to get distance and spacing right....I'm still going over each frame in passes. Again the steps are just differnt. ^^

I also have a recuperating cat slung across my arms, whih is making typing very difficult. ^^

And no shading. Shading is for the effects artist. AND...the Beast is a really BAD exacmple for you to use, specially in you're argument. My characterization teacher, Rick Knowles, is a disney animator...he worked on Beast for "Beauty and the Beast Enchanted Christmas" (sequal or no, the animation was still good) He's like, the most complicated character in disney history. Have you seen the colour seperations on this guy? Wowee...

Haha, you know I actually read about the donkey thing in a book I'd found in Coles. It said it was a new animator on the team who didn't think the stroke would make a difference. ^^ Fun pictures those were.

the point of using the Beast was that his color seperation was around specific areas. his eyes, a few places on his neck, hands (pads), muzzle...and even then, it was color seperation(and shading).

take the Beast, make him 3d. now picture the scene where he's fighting say...the wolves to rescue bell.

in 2d almost all of the movement or weather effect on his fur is done entirely with shading, or the manipulation of the 'outline' of the fur, the edges. it comes off damn nice, and rather excitingly believable. you can suspend disbelief easily and believe the wind is blowing through fur and the animals are biting into fur covered flesh and such.

in 3d, the wind effects in the fight, and the wind was blowing, evidenced by Bell's hair and the snowfall. that wind has to actually move fur in a 3d enviroment. the snow actually has to coat and stick like it would on real fur. the wolf he grabs and roars at, the fur on it would actually have to move as if the air coming from his mouth was there.

the reason for all the added detail is that in 3d, people expect a bit more realism than in 2d.

same in those like Cars. in 2d, the 'Cachow' that Mcqueen does can be done by a little radiance on the sticker and the other character squinting. but in 3d, you have to have that lens flare effect there to make it work right.

"the fur has to move as if the wind is actually there...." dude, that's done ofr all animation. lol I know what you mean though, I'm just poking at technicalities.

And you know....for some reason, 2ders don't like to take the easy way. Have you ever watched Fantasia? The odler ones? There is one about evolution, it involves a lot of dinosaurs. The smoke comming from the volcanoes...that's not rotoscoped smoke, hell it wasn't even drawn smoke.

The special effects developers dropped thick black ink into a container of water, and filmed it. Then the colours were inversed to make the smoke white-ish, the oppacity dimmed, and spliced onto the film. My ex-bf once asked me why we didn't just film some smoke and do the same thing....

Anyway, regarless of 2d or 3d, I'm just glad that I don't have to wait 24 hours for my film to process to see if my pencil tests work. Ten minutes and a multi feed scanner now. NOR do I have to worry about my film melting or turing to dust because of imporper storage conditions, or splicing with scotch tape.

I know. though...I would love to see them do a 3d Fantasia. Night on Bald Mountain would look so badass I imagine.

heh lucky you smile

my stuff was all stored on Hds. one bad eletrical storm at the wrong time could be really bad heh.

though now I got Lightwave 9 on the comp, but I have to relearn how to use it due to the differences between version 9 and the 6.5 version I used last.

Why ruin a classic? night on Bald Mountain is a master piece for a reason you know. ^^

Guh, prgrams change so quickly. Every year that I am here I'm learnign how to use a different version of flash.

anyway, I must head to bed. i've been up alte already and I need to get back to the stuido tomorrow. ^^ night.

*cookies for Jase* Family vacations aren't that bad. I'm sure Post Goddess will let you choose something nice from the catalog to compensate for your pain.

Heh, now would be a good time to hit me up too...I am squealing with joy over my new Zelda action figures that came in the mail today.

Fact: In Japan, ¥300 will buy you a four inch scale model of Twilight Princess characters, that comes in a little plastic ball and you put them together yourself. In America, it's $20 for the set and I am a happy girl.

Fact 2: According to action figures that are accurate replicas of character…Zelda wears knee high brown leather boots under that dress. Mystery solved.

I just got home from the rocky mountains.

for trip highlights, I've now been to Chimney Rock, and I've been to cliffgrabbers or something dome. for movie buffs, Chimney rock area was used in filming the Last Mohican, Lake Lure, which we passed through on the way there, was the site for the film Dirty Dancing.

for animal sightings, I have now stood and stared directly into the eyes of an 8 point whitetail buck at no more than 15 feet from me. seen doe, and fawns. seen chimpmunks, woodchucks, and wild turkey.

seen graves of civil war soldiers, and the grave of one revolutionary war soldier.

I've held the Buster Sword, and the Masamune, and a full scale replica of the Zelda master sword and shield. and squall's gunblade, and Ichigo and Renji's swords in released form from Bleach.

went to Ripley's Believe it or Not museum. I now how they make shrunken heads now, among other things.

But I'm back now smile
