Contemplation:
User Name: Az RP name: Undecided Race: Light Elf *Default selection. Why Elf though, every race certainly has its benefits (except human) therefore it is unnecessary to always pick the same race. It is true that elves are not perfect, but I happen to like slender builds (5'10" and 140lbs. I'm pretty much an elf as it is. Maybe my 'elf-love' is merely a reflection of my own narcissism.) Upon second though, it is because I physically resemble, and like that fact, elves. And I really like pretty eyes and hair. I do have my shallow moments. XP **I commonly say elves are better than everything else. This is only true when compared to lesser species of creatures. When a human dies, he loses but one life. When an elf dies, he loses all eternity (many lives). Thus, the elf who is slain was more valuable than the human in the sense that he had lost more in the process. Not to say, humans are not valuable. The most common trend in elfish characters is to fall for humans. If elves are better than humans in every way, why does this happen?
Age: Appropriate to history *Elfish children are literally taught in the womb, so he could be anything from 10-20000000
Occupation: Magician, Storm mage. *Mages are not my speciality. I am more direct with them as I have little experience with spellcrafting and casting. My last mage was a Chronomancer, or time mage, who ended up becoming simply a time traveller. It made the most sense. So, Storm mages are walking thunderstorms. Give him only lightning based spells (Light (generated by electricity), Magnetism (caused by electricity), and Electricity) and he's limited enough to prevent 'solve every problem with magic' but enough room to find 'creative solutions to every problem'. Paralysis can occur if a creature is stunned by electrical currents of a non-lethal verity. ** Its funny, how he fights is more important to who he is than any other trait. Fighting techniques generally follow the character of the person, not what is most efficient. For example, I disdain hitting people so I excel at grappling. This does not mean I am unable to hit people, I just don't like to. *** Why would a person choose to be a storm mage. They must have some reason for doing so, was he born into the role or did he seek it out? Since I personally don't believe in free-will, or destiny, this part of his (I don't really care to RP as girls, so it is a he) character becomes somewhat definitive of his personality. If he sought power, he's probably more likely to be aggressive or assertive. If he had it thrust upon him, he may be a little more lax or feeling pressured to do things.
Appearance: Blues and greys. * Not important to me really. Pointy ears, pretty eyes, nice hair, etc. Elfish clothes or not, colours are relative to his personality or profession. Physical perfection of elves is generally unavoidable because they do not scar. They also regenerate lost limbs and non-vital organs over time.
Weapons: None. *Useless even in situations where the mage cannot use magic. If he is capable of standing toe to toe with veteran fighters, he is a 'broken' (munchkin, god-mode) character. His place is casting spells. He's mostly martially useless when he cannot do that (unless he can do something valuable like aim artillery weapons or build siege engines.) This also means he is somewhat vulnerable to situations where he cannot use his magic. ** Not every wizard cares to use a walking stiff or sorcerers staff. Sometimes it is said wizards required wands or staves to cast spells. That being the case, is the wand not the wizard and the body just a toy? *** Maybe he knows kun fu?
Powers: Arcane Lightening *Arcane means 'magic'. Lightning refers to the 'element' (there are only four elements [fire/earth/water/air] and one perfect form[void] but for fun video games and DnD and other stuff decided that other things can be elements too [shadow/lightning/ice/ooze/mist/magma/light/etc] The later elements are usually mixtures of the primary four. Light and Darkness are confusing (because technically, they do not have any physical form). What was the point of talking about this? Right, elements. He can use one, and none of the others. He is a specialist, which means, he probably knows more about this element than god does. Wizards after all, are gods in their own right. Which part of re-creating the universe to suit their needs is not a god-like power?)
Peronsality: If I only knew at this moment. *This is something better developed as the story moves along. Set personalities are troublesome because they sometimes remove the individual from partaking in the story. **It is recommended to me that my character have the characteristics of "Korou" and "Honey" from Ouran High. A devilishly playful individual with only one thing on his mind... chocolate cake. It is probably not a bad personality, but it does seem very 'mary-sue' to me. ((For more information about marry-sue characters, consult the internet)).
Background: Important, but not important. *The background of the individual determines the predictable pattern of behaviour he puts forth. If this one is known for wining magic tournaments or duels, he is powerful la-de-da. But, that does not necessarily mean anything. He could have slain a million gods prior to the RP, but once it begins, he probably shouldn't do things like that. So, his history needs to be a brief back story which people can relate to, but not full of unnecessary details like each and every loss and victory from his life. This is another area where this one can be very 'mary-sue-ish' and is best not touched with a ten foot pole.
Other: Familiar? Family Relations, personal importance to the universe? Economic position, economic responsibilities, important timbits of information. Does he have any political alliances or duties which interfere with his personal choices? What about this individual needs to be mentioned now so that people can better understand him, but not necessarily know all his secrets. Ok. Now I'm ready to make a character.
^^
((This is not meant to be an attack on anyone. I'm just having a hard time thinking about this for no particular reason. I've probably just exchausted much of my repertoire for generating characters over the last couple years. So, I let you see how I am thinking (or not thinking) about the building process))

Wow Az, that is almost as useless as your name-selection process. I wonder how much of that you will actually take into account when you do anything.
Well, in response to that attack on me by myself, I will have to say it was not useless. Just thinking.
User Name: Az RP name: Xaeus Tama Kikyon Race: Light Elf Age: 97 Occupation: Storm Mage (Battery)
Appearance: His somewhat nondescript look is to his advantage, as he does not always like to draw attention to himself, but when he does he is quickly forgotten because no one can remember much about his appearance. His hair is a misty blond colour, and his eyes are blue. His clothes are usually blue and grey, often wearing a mantle or a muffler about his shoulders. Once or twice, he was seen dressed as a battlemage.
Weapons: Martial Arts Powers: Arcane Lightning (Lightning based magics)
Peronsality: Strange, distant, and sometimes very proud. Often, he's an attention whore, demanding the whole of almost anyone's attention. He is somewhat seductive when he wants something, which is often predictably cake. He likes to be friendly, but he has a few quarks where he will unduly hate someone without reason, or withdraw from a conversation suddenly. His mind is grieved by his hateful actions and he can become incredibly depressed when he has done something he regrets. His whirlwind emotions have a pattern similar to storms or gusts of wind. The weather often influences his mood, storms bringing out the best in him and the sun causing utter despair.
Background: He seems to have always lived in the city, and never really travels. Despite the fact he owns battlemagi robes, he is not seen associating with any mage guilds, armies or government agencies. He seems to stay clear of conflict or involvement of politically influential or powerful people.
Other: His favourite food is cake. His hobbies include minor device building and fishing.

Xaeus combat test:
Fight One: Versus Kimmuriel.
Duration: Eternity [Maybe half an hour in a Zone of Anti-Magic] Victor: Draw [Kimmuriel in a Zone of Anti-Magic]
The length of the battle represents the inability of these two characters to successfully engage in actual combat. Kimmuriel's design places him at a greater advantage, because he cannot be targeted by spells or magical effects [thoroughly negating all of Xaeus' attacks]. The problem for Kimmuriel is his lack of magical prowess, which means he does not have any means to combat using magic without enchantments. Since all of Kimmuriel's magical attacks rely on his scimitars, he is unable to provide any offence which might incur damage on Xaeus. Xaeus cannot do any harm to Kimmuriel due to the anti-magical nature of Kimmuriel's basic equipment. Since the environment does not provide any advantages to either combatant, it is not possible for Xaeus to harm Kimmuriel.
Sample of Combat: Xaues opens up with a fury of lightning bolts and thundara spells which are all deflected by Kimmuriel's protections back at the caster. The spells are converted back into mana by Xaeus, but have had no impact on the drow. Kimmuriel is uanable to counter attack due to the ferocity of the lightning [crossbow bolts would be incinerated by lightning bolts, daggers or scimitars would simply be knocked off course]. Kimmuriel attempts to close the distance so he can use his scimitars, but Xaues can generate a magnetic field which tosses the drow [and scimitars, daggers, metal bolt heads] away. Use of the magnetic field can produce effects similar to a rale gun, but this would be too inaccurate for use against Kimmuriel [Lucky hit victory for Xaeus].
Kimmuriel attempts to skewer Xaeus by using a variety of his Limits, but Xaeus can use his magics to generate shields to absorb or deflect the attacks. Blade Beam is too slow to hit the Storm mage, and Lightning Stab would is neutralized. Kimmuriel's left gauntlet is able to catch spells that target the user, and fling them back at the caster [but this has no baring on this fight]. The Reflection effect on Kimmuriel protects him from being directly targeted by spells and effects, but cannot save him from the effects of environmental damage [such as the absence of oxygen, magma or other harmful things]. To avoid being instantly killed by these, Kimmuriel employs movement enhancing gear on his feet [and he can levitate] preventing most common catastrophes from causing him serious harm [IE, he moves to where oxygen is, or he levitates away from magma]. The closest Xaeus can get to victory is using Gravija to severely limit Kimmuriel's movement, but the drow can use his magical trinkets to enable quick escapes [the many uses of Portable Holes and Bags of Holding].
In a despirit attempt to gain victory, Kimmuriel can use and Item of Power to summon a creature which may provide the necessary magical support he needs to win the fight. This probably would fail miserably because the storm mage is only weak at killing Lightning Based Magical Denizens, which have no effect on him personally [mana conversion technique]. Other elements are defeated by overwhelming them with electirical energy. Some creatures are immune or highly resistant to this type of damage, so gravity and light attacks can be used in variance to destroy the summoned creature. [In General, Kimmuriel is stronger than most summon able creatuers]
In an circumstance where Xaeus looses his magical abilities, Kimmuriel looses his magical gear as well. Meaning, its hand to hand combat, where Kimmuriel has the upper hand, but Xaeus is not foolish enough to try to duke it out. Xaeus' skills in unarmed combat emphasize capitalizing on strengths while attempting to avert disaster by not falling prey to the shortcomings in his own techniques [IE, using his acrobatics to avoid becoming entangled in melee combat]. If Kimmuriel can eliminate magical effects for a great duration of time, he would become the victor due to his advantage [longer reach, larger threat range, greater experience]. Kimmuriel's handcrossbow could make short work of the mage if Kimmuriel is lucky. Throwing daggers would be useful as well for Kimmuriel to secure victory.
***In a setting where each character has a party, these tactics are meaningless though contain some of the combat techniques used by each character.

Fight Two: Versus Orko
Duration: >6 Seconds Victor: Orko
Orko clearly owns this match. Though Xaues is not a pushover, his specialization places him at a great disadvantage against Orko, who dabbles in all spells and spellcraft.
Sample Combat: Xaeus releases his magic into a defencive sphere of electrical energy, just in time to save him from a volley of Magic Missiles, but those were merely Orko's distraction as he releases a powerful multi-spell combo [Time Stop; Dispel Magic/Meteor Swarm/Quake/Gravija] which nearly destroys the whole of the arena [by nearly, Orko and the ground he is standing on remains intact]. The smothering ruin shows signs of every sort of damage imaginable. Albeit, Orko does tend to show off and be lazy, he does have extensive knowledge of magical combat that rivals many of the Magic Deities. He would not be tolerated on Kimmuriel's ship if he was not this useful.
Sample Combat Two: Orko is Not allowed to use 'High' Level Magic or Alternative Sources of Spellcrafting [IE, if he was able to he would not be allowed to use Rune Magic].
Xaeus begins the round by producing the same magical barrier as before, which as before, protects him from a volley of Magic Missiles. This time though, Orko does not use his most powerful Spell to begin the fight, but instead uses Delayed Blast Fireball. He throws a small red crystal-like object at Xaeus who keenly teleports away from it and counters with Thunderstorm. Orko Dispells Thunderstorm and his Fireball explodes. Xaues uses some mana to generate two [Large Lightning Shurikens] around each of his hand, which he promptly throws at Orko.
Unimpressed by the lack of power, Orko literally slaps the missiles away from himself with one hand, and throws a generic fireball at Xaeus with the other. Xaeus dodged the flames and generates a [Lightning Shield] to use in his off hand. Orko does not wait to see what happens with the fireball, and tosses a few more useless, in Orko's opinion, low level magical attacks which vary in size and element. Xaeus concentrates on avoiding danger while trying to build up his mana around his right hand. Orko catches onto Xaeus' plan [Spellcraft skill] and casually prepares a counter measure. Xaeus uses his lightning magic to transport himself next to Orko, who does not have the combative reflexes to adjust himself to the situation, and throws all of his might into a Shocking Grasp [Chidori] attack. Orko is hit in the side, but the energy is dispersed about him without causing ill effect. Xaeus uses this moment to unleash as much mana as he can into a series of vertical lightning strikes [Thunderstorm] directly onto Orko, at point blank range. Orko whips the sweat off his face and plants his hand directly on Xaeus's face. Xaeus' delayed spell launches, releasing several thousand volts of electricity through Orko's body, to no effect. Orko releases a [Death Spell] directly into Xaeus' head, but Xaeus resists the magic [passed his Saving Throw]. Xaeus places his palms together and releases Magneta into Orko at point blank range, causing the wizard to drop to the ground. Orko phases away from Xaeus with a bloodies nose.
Xaeus detects Orko's presence by tracking the nervous system [Detect Lightning variant] and targets the invisible mage with Lord of Vermilion. Using the time that it takes for Xaeus to cast Vermilion, Orko prepares his defence by readying a delayed Elemental Protection spell [Xaeus is visible, his spells can be 'read' by Orko]. The attack and defence launch in unison.
Orko tosses up a wall of Ice, which he then moves completely away from. Xaeus concentrates his mana into his legs, and levitates above the ground where he begins to concentrated him mana after raising an electrical barrier around him [Lightning Shield]. Orko launches a few attacks at Xaeus consisting of various elemental missiles, to no avail.
After Xaeus concentrated enough mana into his form, he unleashes [Lightning Nova] which fills the entire arena in his energies. The mana depletion of this act causes Xaeus to loose his levitation, and weakens his defencive spell. Orko filed his nails while the attack did its work, and looked up when it finished wondering if it had been completed yet [Absorb Element], his nose looking much more healthy.
Xaeus draws mana from the ground to replenish his strength. Orko points his hand at Xaeus launching Magic Missiles as though there is no tomorrow.
Xaeus uses a smaller [Lightning Nova] to defend himself against these attacks. Orko yawns, and uses Stone Curse on Xaeus who is unaffected by the magical curse [passed the saving throw again].
Xaeus draws more mana from the ground, and air, before concentrating all of his energies again, but this time into his palms. Orko raises a brow at this [having identified the spell being cast] and quickly casts a series of defencive spells to protect himself against this attack. When Xaeus finished charging his magic, he unleashed [Magnaja] on the arena.
Orko brushed the dust off his robes and stared at Xaeus, releasing an eye beam [Eye Laser]. Xaeus grabbed the beam with his hand, melting the flesh about the limb to his elbow. Using his other hand, Xaeus fired a chain lightning spell [Chain Lightning] at Orko, who ate it for once [having changed his elemental magic defences to protect him from Gravity, releasing the Lightning Based charms]. He looked shocked, but hardly injured [Endurance]. Orko used another spell combination to bring him behind Xaues, and drained him of some of his physical health using necromancy [Vampiric Touch]. Xaeus grabbed at Orko's arm with his hands and released a few thousand volts of electricity into Orko [who didn't change his defencive spells, so he ate it again], but the vampiric magic drained the life from Xaeus to compensate for the damage taken [in effect, reflecting the spell even though Orko went through all the pain of being burned by lightning].
Orko released Xaeus, and Xaeus released Orko. The two wizards floated above what was left of the arena floor. Orko, looking much more healthy than Xaeus [despite the fact the sleeve of the arm Xaeus grabbed was non-existent]. Orko had a blood stain on his face from Magneta, but no other signs of injury. Xaeus's arms were stained with lightning burns, his clothes charred and tattered, and his one had nearly unusable. Blood slowly flowed from his nose and mouth.
Xaeus drew out more mana from the air [wouldn't you like to know where it comes from XP], and replenished his supply. Orko chanted.
Xaeus focused his mana into a tangible [Solid Lightning Javilin] glaive, and Orko poked out his hand but nothing seemed to have happened. Orko dropped to the ground [figuring that Xaeus was probably quite good at flying], Xaeus charged after him, avoiding the counter spells that impeded his advance [He was good at flying]. When he reached the ground, he tried to stab Orko with the Glaive, but instead found it impaling a summoned beast [Monster Summon III used to Summon Monster Summoning I beasts]. His attack slew the creature, but cost him precious moments as Orko used the oppertunity to release a point blank fireball on the lightning mage. Xaeus cut through the flames with his glaive, but found himself attacked by Dire Rats from behind [He accidentally saved the rats behind him while saving himself from being burned]. He dropped the glaive, which dissipated, and used some mana to cause another Nova attack, killing the rest of the summoned beasts. Unfortunately, Orko was standing above him [after eating the weak Nova] and unleahsed a low level acid arrow [Mage's Acid Arrow] into Xaeus' form. The arrow hit its mark, and burned the elf wizard.
