he only has that ability when he has Mavloence in hand, or it touching it. Malvolence is infused with cymarron's blood and a vampiric spirit called T'haen. t'haen has magical power, telepathy. through cymarron's blood infusion he has increased agility/strength/stamina
which is why malik can do alot of spells by thought alone, adn is such a tough SoB with it. he's tough without it, but even worse with it.
