__ Fwooooosh! Zrrooooommmn... sksh sksh skssssshhhhh. Zhi took a long slid to a halt from her super amazing, high-speed dash from the training grounds. "I'm baaaa- ugk!?" A letter appeared out of nowhere and startled her when it ran into her face, interrupting her awesome entrance. Zhi caught it before it would hit the ground and quickly skimmed over it. A grin crept across her lips, "Oh hoh? Taylor's on the move. I better train quickly. Nonono! Super quickly!" The paper was quickly pocketed in the pouch on her left leg and she took off running again to meet up with her late appointment.
Zipping around the academy grounds to the back yard, Zhi reached the rendezvous spout to begin her training. "You're late..." Was all she heard in passing before her line of sight suddenly shifted to the sky. THUD! "Whawha whaa?" She was on the ground, completely halted, before she even knew what was going on. It didn't hurt, despite the loud noise made from her landing. Zhi looked back toward where she came to see her mother half turned toward her. "Shadowless Flight. Begin." Awestruck yet again by her mother's skill, and somewhat terrifying might, Zhi swallowed hard and jumped up to her feet again. "Okay mama!" She was actually familiar with this basic technique from her clan. It was another simple flow of chakra through her body to enhance movement. Swish! Zhi lashed her speed-enhanced leg into a kick at her mother. Although she struck with intent to hit, Zhi knew that she could never actually land a blow on someone of this caliber. ** LEARNED - Jinton: Mueishō [Speed Release: Shadowless Flight ] 1/1 Posts
Sure enough, a light deflecting tap was all it took to counter her attack. As expected since Shadowless Flight sacrificed power for more speed. "Excellent, Zhi. Now, the Ecological Technique." She had to think for a bit to ensure that she remembered how this one was done. It felt more like her mother was testing her than training. "Well?" The woman took a firm step forward, exuding a threatening aura, "Only a foolish opponent will wait for you to remember how and when to use your techniques. Don't give them the chance." Another step forward practically sent Zhi into a panic. "R-r-right!" She knew she was in for a good walloping if she didn't respond right away. If she needed more time then she just needed to make some, which was the purpose of this jutsu in the first place. Of course, she also needed to perform hand seals to use her jinton chakra in this way. To accomplish this without sacrificing a moment, Zhi focused some jinton chakra into her hands to significantly bolster the speed she could perform the seals. In a moment that didn't even appear to occur she finished preparing her technique in order to exert her chakra upon everything around her in a ninety foot radius. Nzooommbwt. Just when her mother was about to commit to an attack the area of effect became active. While they were both affected, it was enough to put them on equal footing long enough for Zhi to block and step away to put herself back out of range. ** LEARNED - Jinton: Senkakusha no Inzou [ Enlightened Person's Handsigns ] 1/1 Posts ** LEARNED - Jinton: Ecological no Jutsu [ Speed Release: The Ecological Technique ] 1/1 Posts
Zhi proceeded to jump away to put a bit more distance between her mother and herself. 'We're really making up for lost time. She hasn't asked why I was late yet though...' As she thought about this, she realized a little late that her mother had vanished from view. "Wait, what?" A kunai landed in the sand in front of her, apparently from above. It was her only warning. ** LEARNING - Jinton: Takusan Hoshi no Jutsu [ Speed Release: Many, Many Stars Technique ] 1/3 Posts
"Now... Many, Many Stars." Zhi promptly flipped her body backward to avoid an ensuing volley of more ninja tools. Her jinton-powered hands flashed through more hand seals to ready another speed release technique. If it weren't for the previous lessons on what was needed to prepare these techniques, she'd have no chance at spontaneously using them like so. Hopefully her luck would hold out and her talent would bring about more success. ** LEARNING - Jinton: Takusan Hoshi no Jutsu [ Speed Release: Many, Many Stars Technique ] 2/3 Posts
Zhi's eyes locked onto her mother who fell from above, throwing even more shuriken and kunai at their shared speed limit. 'Now!' The young kunoichi exerted her slowing jinton chakra to even more drastically reduce her mother's movement, also halving the movement speed of the tools launched her way. ** LEARNED - Jinton: Takusan Hoshi no Jutsu [ Speed Release: Many, Many Stars Technique ] 3/3 Posts
Zhi's mother vanished again, faster than the blink of an eye. A kunai that had been falling near the woman's foot was all that remained in her place. 'Did she jump off of that?' Zhi began to look around for any sign of her teacher, and sure enough her mother stood behind her. "That was soooo cool mama!" She exclaimed before having her head patted with approval. "That's enough for now little one." Zhi nodded and released her techniques, feeling a small fit of exhaustion run back over her after using so much chakra in a short span of time.

__ Hikaru chuckled as Taylor jumped to his arrival. He hadn't realized Taylor was so easy to startle, this was something he would note for later. He watched as Taylor then proceeded to make his own platform to stand on and smiled. I've always loved heights. He said this while watching their other new friend train below. It was quite interesting to say the least.
_______________ ≎Out Of Context≎ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Sorry for the quick post D:
Taylor smiled when Hikaru spoke. The boy had a nice voice. It felt gentle to his ears. Hearing him speak also made it easier to look at him. As he looked, however, his eyes shifted away to the academy. "The tournament will begin soon. I'm already afraid." He said softly. His mind was drifting through the thoughts of the people he would face, and the dangers which would follow. "A lot of our fellow genin will be there. I hope I can keep up with them." His mind wandered as he thought of who he will face in this tournament. He felt embarrassed to be this afraid, but he felt fear nonetheless.

__ Taylor spoke of the tournament than said something that felt off to Hikaru. It sounded and looked like self doubt in his voice and expression, something Hikaru had yet to experience. He too thought about some of the people he would be facing but it didn't really phase him as much as it seemed to phase Taylor. You'll do great Taylor, don't hold back because were all friends okay? He truly wanted to see his friends succeed almost as much as his own self, though he figured he would be the one winning the tournament in the end anyway.
Taylor was genuinely surprised when Hikaru implied that they were friends. It wasn't like the boy had anything against him. It was just that they didn't really know each other. Taylor eyes locked on Hikaru as he wondered if he genuinely could be friends with him. He felt like it was a question he lacked the power to answer, so instead he smile and nodded. "Thank you. I just hope I can see more our fellow genin reach their full potential." He said cheerfully. Something about the power of others arose a feeling within Taylor. He was afraid of the sensation, but at the same time it drew him into further action. Taylor wanted to see more, and to partake in more. It was then, however, a question formed in his mind. "Hikaru, are you from here?" He asked as he looked away from the boy and looked down at the village, a gesture at what he was truly was trying to ask. Horus meanwhile flew off to do some training.
Horus first wanted to learn a technique which was similar to Taylor's propelling winds technique. Rather than under his talons, however, Horus would have the wind come out of his mouth. As he flew around he channeled wind chakra into his lungs and shrieked out. The wind pushed out and knocked him up further into the air.
It took more than one try to master this technique. Again Horus would have the wind come out of his mouth. As he flew around he channeled wind chakra into his lungs and shrieked out. The wind pushed out and knocked him up further into the air. (Wind Release Stream: D-ranked Horus)
Once higher in the air, Horus practiced his second technique. He channeled chakra into his wings and then flapped down with all four wings. In doing so he created a powerful, but relatively minor gale. The gale extended for ten feet and its shockwaves would be felt either further. (Wing Blast: D-ranked Horus)
Horus flew around as he flapped his wings in order to mimic handseals. Chakra channeled throughout his body as the sparks started to form a ball of lightning in front of his body. The chakra started off small at first, but then started to form a cohesive sphere. With a flap of his wings the ball was launched down to the ground.
Unfortunately, that lightning ball wasn’t at full power. Once again, Horus flapped his wings to mimic handseals. More chakra was applied to the ball as it materialized faster. Finally, when he shot it and the blast hit the ground, Horus could tell that it moved faster and it had more power. (Lightning Ball: X-ranked learned up to B)
Finally Horus decided to learn some basic trick. He pivoted his wings in the air in order to mimic handseals. Once he mixed through a string of them he poofed into a cloud of smoke. Through the smoke came a smaller bird which was Horus in disguise. Finally Horus broke the technique and reverted to his natural, giant form. (Transformation Technique: E-ranked Horus)
My Name Is Atsuma Ket. Pleasure To Meet You! I Hope We Can Become Great Friends!
Atsuma decided it was time to mingle with some of his old academy friends! Surely they had a lot of catching up to do after graduation and would love to talk about their future aspirations, dreams and goals. Somewhere in the academy was fellow gennin Zhi. From what he could recall she was a hyperactive ball of energy just waiting to explode at any minute. He did admire such energy for he himself some times found that he was lacking. Atsuma decided he would head on over to her and see what was up!
He would find her training with what was hopefully someone real and not in her head that the narrator misinterpreted as being real. He clapped at her success with a delighted smile on his face. She was obviously skilled in what ever style she was using. He heard the word Jinton being thrown around, but had no clue on what Speed Release was. He approached her with a warm smile and bowed slightly. "Hell there miss Zhi! Are you training for the tournament as well?" He asked looking her in the eyes.
Toya wanted to find out who his opponents were. His old classmates were likely to be in the competition. He never paid too much actual attention to their abilities, however. Just enough to fake some level of interest in them and not seem alienated. Luckily for him one of them was already nearby. Loud people were his favorite. They squirmed the most.
My Name Is Toya Takahashi. Would You Like To See My World?
Ayame and Daichi poofed into the academy looking around. A few of the genin were here so that made things a bit easier. She went directly beside the group as much to get their attention as it was to get where she was going. Daichi followed close at her side, keeping his eyes on his surroundings. Yes they were in the academy, but that didn't mean things couldn't go wrong. As Ayame reached the wall of the academy in clear view of everyone she smiled at her partner, Calm yourself Fluffy. Daichi growled at her, You know I hate it when you call me that. Ayame chuckled and shrugged a shoulder. As she pierced a sheet of paper to the wall with one of her kunai she spoke, I know you do that's why I say it. She turned toward the open area of the academy and cleared her throat before accessing the PA system throughout the village. All genin report to the academy there is a notice for you. I hope you all enjoy what I have planned. She said before moving to the halls of the academy out of the way.

__ Zhi caught her breath and smiled up at her mother. The woman's smile was much less apparent, but she was proud of her daughter all the same. The two of them turned to look to the boy who called over to Zhi. She'd nod affirmatively and reply, "Yupperooni! You're... uhm... Asuma?" A firm but gentle tap on the top of her head from her mother caused her to flinch. "Try harder to remember your peers' names." Zhi looked up at her mother like a puppy who had just been scolded for barking for the first time- clearly confused about what she did wrong. Looking back to Atsuma she bowed apologetically then asked when she stood up again, 'I'm sorry... but what was your name?" She knew that if she didn't at least do this much the punishment would surely be greater.
However, before she could hear his answer an announcement came over the academy's public announcement system. "Sorry again!" It sounded important so she looked to her mom again, silently asking to be excused. With a nod from the matriarch of the Zenshin family, Zhi would zip away at full speed to see what the hubbub was all about. There she found lady Kazekage near a bulletin board with details of the upcoming tournament upon a posted piece of paper. This notice was a little different from Taylor's, but it essentially covered all the same bases. Perhaps the Kazekage approved of their idea to let everyone have fun fighting each other? The better news was that now there would be rewards, even if they were unspecified as to what. Zhi remembered that jonin who said he'd sponsor the tournament and wondered if he also had a hand in this. Quietly, she read over the roster. 'Oh? I'm against T-fizzle, that artsy boy with the puppets.' All things considered, she wasn't super knowledgeable about how kugutsu worked, but she did remember him generating fields of magnetic chakra to be able to manipulate his metal marionette. Considering that this seemed like his go to style at the time, she'd have to stay on her toes for other tricks and surprises that might be in store. Zhi bounced up and down in place as she read back over the roster a couple more times to see if she remembered any other names. "Masato, Taylor, Hikaru. Hopefully I don't get knocked out in the first round. I'd like to have another match with Taylor." She said aloud before looking to the Kazekage. "Thank you Kazekage-san-sama! Thisisgonnabesuperspecialawesomewithacherryontop!!" Zhi bowed to excuse herself and rushed away again to get back to training as soon as possible. She'd meet her mother back at the practice grounds outside and behind the academy.
_______________ ≎Out Of Context≎ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ @Ayame: I don't know if you're aware, but your format is too wide for standard monitor sizes. I'd suggest adjusting the image to be no larger than 800 pixels. Just thought I'd let you know.
With her hands within her pockets she walked over to the paper hung by a kunai. Quickly reading the names she found hers upon it. She scratched her head as this was going to be a lot of training on her part. But she was going to enjoy it oh so much. But she had to get her headband before anything else. Trotting after the Kazekage she called out to her. "Kazekage Sama!" She shouted chasing after her until she managed to get right behind her. "I need a head band if you want me to win the tournament." She said full of energy and confidence. As if there wasn't any chance in the world that she could lose within that tournament.
Ayame looked down at the child and quirked an eyebrow, was she hyped up on sugar? "You're welcome," she tried to say before the girl hurried off. She shook her head and chuckled then both she and Daichi went utterly still at the voice behind them. That scent. Ayame turned keeping her face calm, "Hi there, Susano'o I presume." She said holding out a headband, the girl was Hatake and looked like a female version of Theodin with Asami's pale skin. Her heart skipped a beat, but she showed no outward signs. "I do hope you enjoy the tournament." She said making a note to talk James, he would know for sure if this girl was their Noriko.
She took the head band and applied it to her belt at her skirt. When she finished she giggled a bit. "Enjoy it? Oh, I'm going to dominate it. Speaking of which can you give me a mission or two? I need to get ryo for another katana." She spoke truthfully and cutting through the chit chat that could possibly be there. After all she had a lot of training ahead of her tonight. But she was acting like she was already almost done with her training.
"Unfortunately, I won't be handing out missions until after the tournament seeing as I don't need my genin running out of the village and away." She said putting a hand on Daichi, "After you are finished training I would like for our medic to look you over to make sure you are in tip top shape for the tournament. After that you may have another katana." She said hoping against all hope.
She placed her finger upon her chin and began to debate on what the Kazekage had told her. She was essentially being bribed... yet it was for a free katana which was going to be nice. "Alright." She said as she began to march over to another area of the dojo.
Susano'o entered the dojo with a single purpose. To achieve greatness through her training so she could dominate her enemies. Grabbing out her katana she began to focus her chakra into it until was imbuned with a bright electricity. The electricity crackled around the blade and she giggled as she was able to learn that with ease. {1/1 Raiton: Shiroi Yaiba}
Continuing on with her training she swung her katana with fierce devotion. When the tip pointed at one of the target dummies lightning was launched from her blade. Hitting the target with the force of an explosion tag. {1/1 Raiton: Shiroi Yari}
Focusing more of her chakra into the blade she began to feel something new. She watched as chakra enveloped the blade and began to lengthen. Adding more range to her deadly arsenal of tricks. She was going to have so much fun with it all. {1/1 Raiton: Tanto Yaiba}
She sheathed her katana as these next couple of techniques were going to take a lot out of her. She wasn't afraid of getting her hands dirty however. She was going to give it all that she had. {1/3}
Gritting her teeth she began to focus upon her chakra into a bunshin technique. One that only the Hatake's could quite replicate. As a vicious grin tore across her face she knew she was close. {2/3}
As the technique was released a clone of bright light was created. She began to bounce up and down and the clone copied her movements. Mostly excited by the fact she's shooting through the jutsu with ease. {3/3 Raiton: Hatake}
Drawing her katana once more she closed her eyes and focused upon the blade. Pouring more of her clan's chakra into it making it stronger and stronger. Her hands tightened around the handle as she continued to give it all she had. {1/3}
As her chakra began to pour into the blade she began to hear the starting of chirping. A smile crept upon her face again as she was feeling the technique pull through. She just had to keep feeding the blade more chakra. {2/3}
Finally she was ready to release the powerful technique. As she opened her eyes she laughed as the blade erupted with her raiton. Chirping at a fierce rate as she wielded the truly beautiful weapon. {3/3 Chidori sai}
Ceasing the technique she went on to learn her traditional raiton techniques. Focusing chakra into her body she began to build a resistance to Raiton. So that her own techniques wouldn't harm her, or at least as badly. {1/1 Teikou no Kuntou}
Using hand signs she shot through them with ease. Until she was able to utilize the technique she wished to learn. When the hand signs were complete she shot off a bolt of lightning at one of the training dummies. {1/1 Rakurai no Jutsu}
Focusing even further she hissed through her teeth as she was feeling her training start to get to her. It was easy sure but how rapidly she was tearing through it was getting to her. Upon using the technique an electric current shot out towards the dummies. {1/1 Jibashiri}
She placed her arm in front of her and began to focus more chakra into it. Eventually gathering a large amount of chakra into her hand she was able to use the technique. Should she touch someone with it, it'll cause muscle constriction and intense pain in the subject. {1/1 Hikuhiku Eda no Jutsu}
As she hissed through her teeth once more she pushed through her fatigue to keep moving. Using a former technique she managed to enhance it further by making it a continuous stream of electricity. As the electricity hit the dummy she disrupted the technique ending it. {1/1 Raikou Hitofuki no Jutsu}
As she used more hand signs she began to create small balls of lightning in the air. Making about seven of them and shortly after they took the form of humming birds flooding the area with hums. She then controlled them to launch at a nearby target. {1/1 Hachidori no Mure no Jutsu}
She growled as she tried to wake herself up for the next technique. She was slowing down and she knew it all too well. She shot another burst of lightning at the targets making a beam five meters in width hitting a few targets. {1/1 Raikou Kousen no Jutsu}
She was so close to finishing her Raiton training she could taste it. She began to focus her training even more. Pushing her chakra through to her hands. {1/3}
She then started to use the hand signs in order to perfect the technique. She was going to have to cut the technique off quickly. As it was highly dangerous. {2/3}
What she didn't understand was just how dangerous it was. Upon using the technique she unleashed it. Thunder boomed through the academy as a bolt of lightning hit her just as she ended the jutsu. {3/3 Raikou no Yobigoe no Jutsu}
Grabbing nearby kendo katana she wielded it and her real katana. She began to focus upon her chakra once more pouring her heart and soul into it. She was almost there! {1/3}
Pushing through the pain of everything she began to see double. She was putting her body through so much. Yet she was almost there at the end. {2/3}
Upon releasing the technique she was able to use it. Chakra erupted around her in the form of lightning armor. She was panting from the amount of stress she was putting on herself. {3/3 Raigeki no Yoroi}
For her last trick she was struggling to put enough chakra into it. Forcing her eyes to remain open she focused upon her chakra. Charging the technique for what was to come. {1/3}
She was able to do so with sheer force of will that was inherited through her Hatake blood. She was no stranger to trying times. This was no exception. {2/3}
Upon using the technique she raised the katana and practice katana into the air. Lightning swiftly charged her body as it hit her as she began to spin. Forming a vortex of wind that swiftly turned into a dragon and shot towards the target dummy. {3/3 Rairyuu no Tatsumaki}
Moving onto her next method of training she knew she was ever so close to completion. Focusing upon her chakra she already knew how to utilize a technique similar to this. Only this was more devastating. {1/2}
She harnessed her chakra until she used the technique just like the last one. She could feel it within her arm and smiled a bit. She knew that this would mean paralysis within her opponent for a short time should she land it upon them. {2/2 Kanashibari no Jutsu}
She closed her eyes and worked the chakra through her body yet again. Focusing upon what the possibilities held for her. For she wasn't about to give up in the slightest. {1/2}
This jutsu was going to be slightly more difficult because of the amount of concentrating it needed. Yet as she felt an all too familiar feeling crawl through her body. She utilized the technique yet again. Appearing across the dojo in the blink of an eye. {2/2 Shunshin no Jutsu}
It was time for her to use a more useful bunshin technique and she had one just in mind. Closing her eyes she practiced the hand signs over and over to perfection. Getting not only the timing down but the repetition as well. {1/2}
It didn't take too long for her to utilize what she had intended to. Using the technique she summoned forth a bunshin technique. Then upon hitting it with her katana she was able to cause crows to burst from it. {2/2 Karasu Bunshin no Jutsu}
As she held her katana within its sheath she wanted to learn a technique that would aid her prowess as a swordsman. She knew just the technique and it was a devious one at best. She had to perfect it like every other technique however. {1/2}
She drew her katana with such speed and sliced with a burst of chakra. Chakra trailed from the tip of the blade keeping the sharpness of the blade along the chakra trail. She smiled as she could use it in a pinch for sure. {2/2 Kumoryuu Mikazukigiri}
She had only a few more techniques to learn then she would be done with Ninjutsu training. A soft smile remained upon her face as she continued on to practicing hand sign after hand sign. Getting the pattern down to the letter. {1/2}
When she combined her chakra with the technique it allowed her to spawn thousands of crows that encircled a target. She didn't quite know how she was going to utilize this technique. None the less she could see the use in it. {2/2 Sanzengarasu no Jutsu}
Sighing she had one more technique to learn and she knew it was going to be a doozy. Yawning into her hand gently she continued on her training. Practicing yet again with hand signs to perfect the technique in question. {1/2}
It didn't take long before her hand began to glow with chakra. Signifying she had learned yet another powerful technique. Oh, how efficient she was going to be against her enemies in this up coming tournament. {2/2 Chakra Kyuuin Jutsu}
There was one more ninjutsu that she was going to learn. One that was going to take a bit longer to learn. After all it was a higher ranked technique then what she's used to utilizing. {1/4}
Focusing on her chakra she began to regulate it through her body. Continuing the process over and over until she believed she had the flow down. She wasn't going to flunk this technique on the first try. {2/4}
Once she had it down she moved on to the hand signs. Fumbling a couple of times as she wasn't used to this technique. Every once in a while someone would mutter she was biting off more than she could chew. {3/4}
This couldn't be farther from the truth as a shadow clone was finally summoned before her. She smiled and then even fist bumped the clone before releasing it. A few of the sensei's in the area were staring at her as she had shot through her ninjutsu training with ease. {4/4 Kage Bunshin no Jutsu}
Sighing gently she had one last portion of her training before she left the academy. She was going to have to train her body to hold more chakra and stamina. Oddly enough this method was going to be through meditation. {1/5}
She began to use hand signs for multiple techniques at a rapid rate. Every once in a while it would cause her to stumble through them. She didn't stop however as she had to complete this. {2/5}
Instead her proficiency only grew more and more as time went on. Allowing her to ease through the hand signs as they came her way. This was going smoothly for her since she already moved through the hard training already. {3/5}
She began to hum as she continued with her hand signs. Memorizing them to the point of becoming muscle memory. She was going to become a powerful swordsman and there wasn't a soul that was going to stop her. {4/5}
A smile crept up on her face as she fully believed this. She reached the point where her hand signs were flawless and her confidence soared. She giggled as she opened her eyes and sighed taking a break. {5/5 Basic Training: Meditate}
She sat down upon the ground indian style as she was now going to focus upon her chakra. Closing her eyes again she took a deep breath and began to regulate her chakra. Pushing herself further and further to obtain glory. {1/5}
She could feel the chakra move through her body and she focused upon it. Using it to send her further into her own mind. To try and direct the chakra to different areas of her body. {2/5}
She had read that some were able to do that with ease. To be honest the thought of being in such control of your own chakra was nothing short of exciting. The thought of it only furthered her determination. {3/5}
She began to believe that she herself was going to reach that point. As she tried to focus more on directing the chakra. Her eyebrows furrowing with determination at this time. {4/5}
When she was finally able to do so she focused it within her abdomen. Smiling as the sensation raised the hairs upon the back of her neck. She wasn't to the point where the others were but it was a start. {5/5 Basic Training: Meditate}
Now was the time for an easier tactic. All she had to do was use a ninjutsu or two to further her chakra. Using hand signs she began upon a technique. {1/3}
She immediately used it and created a crow clone standing before her. She then slashed through it with her katana and used another set of hand signs for another technique. Targeting one of the crows trying to fly away. {2/3}
A stream of lightning hit the bird causing it to fall to the ground lifeless. She then snapped her finger causing the crow to disappear as it was never real. Sighing she realized she was getting good at this. {3/3 Basic Training: Performance}
She had to do this just one more time then she would be done. She was so close to her goal she could taste it. Closing her eyes she began to use hand sign after hand sign. {1/3}
She was used to this dance as she persisted through most of her training in one sitting. She would only say most as she did sneeze once if she recalled right. Cracking her neck she unleashed another powerful technique. {2/3}
A vortex was created around her and she focused it turning it into a dragon. She then controlled the being to fly towards a dummy. Hitting it head on and destroying it with ease. {3/3 Basic Training: Performance.}
After all of her intense training in both the academy and dojo she walked back to the Kazekage. "Why do you want the doc to see me?" She asked as her foot was tapping on the ground.
__ Zhi returned to the place she had last seen her mother, but saw nobody there but the boy from earlier. "Mama...?" She muttered curiously. 'Where could she have gone? We still have more training to do, right?' Zhi was pretty sure there was quite a bit more to do before the day was over. Not that she'd complain about having the promise of her being broken by the prepared regimen broken. Closing her eyes, she tried to really focus on her natural sensory prowess. However, she couldn't locate anyone but Atsuma nearby. That couldn't be right. Her mother had to be doing something to hide and get the jump on her. Zhi thought, 'Not this time mama!' Her Enlightened Person's Handsigns technique let her fly through several hand seals in the blink of an eye and she used the molded chakra to amplify her chakra sensory abilities. 'There!' Zhi located what appeared to be her mother's chakra signature concealed in the sand. As expected, it was supposed to be an ambush. ** LEARNED - Piercing the Veil {{CUSTOM | MARUTON | 1/1 Posts}}
Now, even if she knew where her mom was hiding she had to be prepared to actually counter the ambush. What could she do against any of it if the lady decided not to hold back? To be honest, not much. She needed to give herself an edge. They could both move fast, even if Zhi couldn't truly compare at the highest level. So... she needed something that her mother didn't have. ** LEARNING - Speed Release: Rapid Reasoning {{CUSTOM | JINTON | 1/3 Posts}}
Pretending to not have noticed, Zhi walked forward and continued to look around worriedly. She carefully paced her advancing steps to not walk into the ambush before she had to. 'Maybe... I can use my Speed Release to allow me to react faster? If I can do that, then maybe the gap in our speed won't be as big a deal.' It was worth a shot after thinking about it. ** LEARNING - Speed Release: Rapid Reasoning {{CUSTOM | JINTON | 2/3 Posts}}
Zhi inwardly channeled her jinton chakra, trying to focus it through her nerves and up into her brain. It felt really really tingly. At first, she wasn't sure if anything was happening besides that particularly peculiar sensation. However, after a few moments she started to notice subtle elements of her environment seemingly slowing down, in a sort of way. 'Yes.' Zhi smirked. ** LEARNED - Speed Release: Rapid Reasoning {{CUSTOM | JINTON | 3/3 Posts}}
Now, it was time to decide how how she was going to counter. Even with her newly developed technique at her disposal, it wouldn't make much of a difference if she let herself be put on the defensive. No, she had to attack first for sure. Not only did that make the most sense, it might actually be enough to impress her mother. Her best bet was to use her fastest technique and make that one chance worth everything it could be. ** LEARNING - Radical Good Speed - Hypersonic {{CUSTOM | JINTON | 1/2 Posts}}
It was time to see how far she could go. Even if just a kid, she was pretty sure she could go far indeed. 'Body Flicker. That has to be how, but will that be enough? No... I need more.' Thinking too hard about it wouldn't get her very far. No, the answer had to be as simple as anything else she understood. Speed. Speed was truth- kinda like cuteness. The faster she went, the more she could do. Now was the time to put that logic to a real test. "Radical Good Speed..." Fwsh! Zhi was gone in an instant, reappearing just past where her mother was concealed. "Supersonic!" The sand and landscape suddenly reacted violently behind her, causing a lot of it to be carried after her along with an ensuing sonic boom. Her mother's hiding place was wrecked without pause, and the woman herself wasn't just surprised by this rushed tactic. The endpoint of Zhi's maneuver exploded, leaving her literally stunned before she was once again buried under stuff- only partially this time though. Zhi glanced back to see how it went and snickered, "Heh heh! Momma still can't beat me at hide 'n seek!!" The girl performed a triumphant pose as she spun around on her heel, flashing a V-shaped sign with one hand out at those left behind her. Speed was truth. ** LEARNED - Radical Good Speed - Hypersonic {{CUSTOM | JINTON | 2/2 Posts}}
__ Zhi's mother groaned where she'd been left by her daughter in the aftermath of the girl's maneuver. POOF! A smokescreen burst upon the scene, leaving behind a training dummy in her mother's place. "Oh crap." Zhi froze up, feeling an immediate danger coming upon her. It was too late, though. The woman reappeared behind the girl and picked her up by the loose knot at the back of her scarf. "Well well well. You actually surprised me a little. Too bad you fell for the oldest trick in the book." Zhi curled up into a dangling ball in her mother's grip while pressing her index fingertips against each other as a sort of docile apologetic gesture. "Honestly, what have we been training for all these years?" Zhi stared down at the ground with apparent humility. Her mother sighed at the lack of response and set her daughter down on the ground again. "Remember, your opponent not only can but most likely will respond to every move you make in a fight. It won't always go as planned. Never let your guard down and only use your strong techniques when you're certain they won't fail to give a result." The reiterated lecture would hopefully sink in this time around.
Changing gears a little, the lady asked, "So? Who are you fighting in this tournament, Zhi?" Zhi softly kicked at the dirt for a second, trying to remember the roster again. "I don't remember his name very well. Something Hanzo. I met him at the training grounds. He was using ninja puppets and some kind of magnetic chakra to manipulate metal. I didn't get to see much of his skills though." Zhi's mother straightened her posture a bit more, easily figuring out who it was she was talking about. "That must be the Iron Maiden's kid. Tetsuhiko was his name, I believe. Well, you've got your work cut out for you. Even for his age and inexperience, he's apparently been hanging around some noteworthy figures in the village and earning a little bit of a name for himself." There wasn't much advice she could specifically give on the upcoming match, but they could still prepare nonetheless.
"Zzzzzzziiiiiiiiippyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!" A man's booming voice echoed throughout the academy's outdoor training grounds. "Papa!?" Zhi instantly perked up and looked around for the source of the ruckus. Fvboom! She was suddenly swept up off the ground again into a strong, loving hug from her father as he appeared on scene. "I'm sorry! I would've come sooner but your mother- uhh... I was a little tied up." He looked over his daughter's shoulder to see his wife glaring daggers at him. He just quietly lipped an apology for leaving the seat up again, to which she just rolled her eyes and adopted a standoffish stance. "It's okay papa! We're training. I get to participate in a tournament with other genin in the village. It's gonna be really fun!" Her father smiled and nodded, "We'll be there to cheer our baby girl on." A firm cough interrupted the moment, "Sonosuke, bishie. Do not forget that we have work to do too. We leave for our mission this afternoon." Sonosuke, Zhi's father, paused at this realization and grumbled in disappointment. "I understand, Reina dear." He returned his attention to his daughter and offered instead, "In that case, how about papa helps Zippy with her training preparations!?" Zhi excitedly waved her hands over her head and cheered, "Yaaaaaaaaay! I get to train with papa!" She quickly hugged her father before she was set down once more. Reina pouted somewhat, hardly missing the difference in how her daughter reacted to each of her parents.
Reina stood back while the other two members of her family took center stage in their joint training. She'd say nothing unless there was something worth noting for Zhi's sake. "So, you're fighting a jiton user, eh? That'll be tricky. I'm sure you're mama already said so, but don't ever let your guard down Zippy." Sonosuke would flow chakra into his left eye, causing the extremely rare clock-like dojutsu to activate. The many clock hand-like lines in his pupil turned about each other before abruptly stopping as he snapped his fingers. "There, now nobody can interrupt us and we won't lose any time in the real world to finish your training lickety split." He looked over his shoulder to his wife who just nodded with approval since that meant they wouldn't have to be late for their mission. "Wonderful!" Sonosuke looked back to his daughter simply stared at him with awe. She honestly had no idea what he had done, but she could see that everything around them seemed to have stopped completely. Zhi never understood her father's abilities, but she knew that he tried to avoid making a spectacle of them so that nothing bad would happen to their family.
Zhi raised her hand and spoke, "Papa, papa! Can we learn some ninjutsu!? I want to be like swooosh and zapzap jaaaajaaaahn!" She was cheerfully doing elaborate gestures to describe the kinds of things she thought she could do with her wind and lightning elemental affinities. Sonosuke just nodded and said, "Very well. Then how about we do this? You'll apply your raiton chakra to the Transformation Technique you learned in the academy. Turn into a cute little bolt of lightning and try to run into your papa." He held his arms open wide, as if welcoming a hug. Zhi gasped at such an ingenious idea. Turning into lightning? What could be faster than lightning? She hoped that maybe she could be one day, but this much was more than enough inspiration. "Ooooooookaaay!! Here I come papa!" Her hand blurred through the few needed hand seals to enhance the transformation technique with her raiton chakra. "You won't have a lot of control in that form, so be mindful of where you send yourself and feel free to jump back at me if you miss." Zhi nodded, feeling the electricity surging through her body as she finished getting a feel for how to go about this endeavor. She winced, clenching her teeth a little as she only now remembered that it was possible to shock herself in the process of using this kind of ninjutsu. 'Keep it together. I gotta show papa what I can do!' The pain subsided after a little while, giving her an idea of what kind of mental and physical fortitude was necessary to use raiton ninjutsu at all. "Charge!" Zhi shouted as she jumped forward, unleashing her molded chakra all at once to transform into a little streak of lightning as intended. Impressed, her father just let the girl strike into and reappear on the other side of himself. A flawless execution of the technique, save for him not attempting to defend or evade. ** LEARNED - Raikou Henge no Jutsu [ Lightning Transformation Technique ] {{RAITON | 1/1 Posts}} ** LEARNED - Teikou no Kuntou [ Electrical Resistance Training ] {{RAITON | 1/1 Posts}}
Sparks coursed over Sonosuke's body, "Ugkk... g-good job Zippy. On your first try no less!" He'd pull himself back together rather easily and stand upright again to turn around. Upon facing his daughter once more he'd suggest another pretty basic raiton technique that he knew of. "Alright, time for you to do that zapzap jaajahn thing. Ready?" Zippy turned around to face her dad too and pouted a little, "Papa, it's JAAAAJAAAAHN! Lightning is energetic, kay?" He'd chuckled and nod, "Sorry sorry. You're right. Now, how about you try sending your raiton chakra out from her hand to hit something far away from you?" Sonosuke suddenly reappeared some ten feet or so back from where he was just standing, giving some distance for a ranged attack like this to be of value. "Hmmn... it couldn't be much harder than preparing and firing a Celestial arrow. Okay! I'll do it!" Zhi pumped her fist into the air and focused intently on her would-be target. Reina just sighed, wishing that Sonosuke would make this practice more... practical. Just using attacks like this wouldn't teach Zhi how to use it in anything close to an actual combative situation- not very well anyway. Zhi brought her hands together and began molding more raiton chakra with each formed seal. Done as quickly as one might expect, she held her hand out at her father. Her left hand let off several small sparks as she shouted excitedly, "Byakurai!" A white flash soared form her directed palm and would fly past Sonosuke as he leaned away at the last possible second. From what he could tell, there was enough power in it for being such a basic technique. He'd teach her stronger versions in a little while. ** LEARNED - Rakurai no Jutsu [ Lightning Bolt Technique ] {{RAITON | 1/1 Posts}}
After settling back into an evened stance Sonosuke said to his daughter, "Excellent work! Now, are you ready to do a stronger version of that?" While he knew that Zhi's bread and butter was archery in combat, he also knew that sometimes she'd have to change tactics. Having an alternate form of ranged combat was in her best interest. Zhi hopped up and down eagerly, "Yeah! Yeah! Let's do it! How!? HOW!?" Sonosuke laughed, glad that she still had so much energy to spare- like always. "Okay, same as before but now you need to try to keep it going instead of just letting it out in a short burst. It'll be a bit more painful for your opponent if it hits and you can keep the pressure on them if you do. Go ahead and try it!" Sonosuke set his hands on his hips and let himself act as her personal training dummy once again. Zhi took a deep breath and wove similar hand seals as before. She exhaled slowly as she took aim for her father with her outreaching electrified palm, "One more time. Byakurai!!" Another wave of streaming electricity burst forth from Zhi's palm, but this time it had apparent girth, being about two and a half meters wide. The lightning blast flowed toward Sonosuke who again evaded at the last second. However, this time Zhi moved her hand in the direction he tried to dodge, forcing her father to retreat further and further to the side. She didn't jerk her hand in his direction or anything like that so that she could properly maintain the jutsu's form, but his reaction made it clear that she was doing it right. ** LEARNED - Raikou Hitofuki no Jutsu [ Lightning Blast Technique ] {{RAITON | 1/1 Posts}}
Just before it might have finally connected, Zhi ended the technique to await further instruction. "Whew! That was a close one! Hah hah!!" Sonosuke laughed aloud, encouraging his daughter's successes in his own quirky way. "But... I think you can do a bit better. Try to maximize your power output. Focus. You should be able to make it an even bigger and stronger attack." For a moment, Zhi felt like her father might be asking a little much of her, but her drive to show her parents how well she was doing as a ninja dispersed those thoughts. Zhi performed the hand seals for her raiton technique again and charged the chakra into her hand. Now the sparks were strong enough to make loud buzzing and humming noises as they came and went around her outreaching palm. Another deep breath in and slow exhale preceded the execution of the Lightning Beam Technique, "Bya-ku-RAAAAAIII!!" Although the last version, Lightning Blast, was indeed larger than she was tall by a couple feet, this time it dwarfed her at five meters in width. Zhi almost sent herself flying backward with how much energy was thrown out from her own self, but she quickly regained her footing and used her sensory abilities to be able to figure out where she should be aiming the massive wave of electrical chakra. While the jutsu wasn't strong enough to uplift the ground, it did leave scorching marks along the area it passed over on its way toward her father. Sonosuke recognized the technique in its perfection and knew that the first shock he received from Zhi's Lightning Transformation was nothing compared to watch it would be like to be hit by this. At least he didn't have to worry about anyone getting hit while he nimbly outmaneuvered the beam, one step and jump at a time. ** LEARNED - Raikou Kousen no Jutsu [ Lightning Beam Technique ] {{RAITON | 1/1 Posts}}
Honestly, Zhi was astonished by what she managed to do just now. Even as she ended the electrical chakra flow, her right hand surged with small sparks for several following seconds. "W-whoa..." She gasped while slowly opening and closing her hand to help the slight numbness subside. Sonosuke sighed, relieved that he didn't get too close to any of that technique. "Hahah... superb, Zippy." He dusted himself off a little and approached to speak at a more comfortable distance again. "It looks like you're getting the hang of your raiton ninjutsu very well. So, how about we push you just a little further?" Zhi took a few moments to catch her breath then nodded in agreement. "Okay, let's do it." Her father smiled and suggested the last raiton training they'd do today, "So, since your opponent is a puppeteer, how about we learn how to use chakra strings of our own?" Zhi tilted her head, unsure of what her father was getting at. Noticing this, Sonosuke proceeded to elaborate, "You're going to refine a very large amount of raiton chakra into threads that extend from each of your fingertips. This is going to be a huge test of your chakra control, though." Well, that was quite the proposed challenge but it sounded pretty cool too. "Okay, I'll try my best." Zhi closed her eyes to envision the kind of elemental manipulation she wanted to do. ** LEARNING - Ayatsuri Raikou no Jutsu [ Manipulated Lightning Technique ] {{RAITON | 1/3 Posts}}
After a few seconds of concentrating her mind and will, Zhi brought her hands together to perform several hand seals. This time the seals were enhanced by her jinton technique to finish almost as soon as her hands touched each other. As she pulled her hands' palms apart she'd ensure that the raiton chakra was properly refined to bridge between each of her fingers and thumbs. Slowly, they parted to reveal thin threads of electricity packing much more power than might be assumed at first glance. ** LEARNING - Ayatsuri Raikou no Jutsu [ Manipulated Lightning Technique ] {{RAITON | 2/3 Posts}}
Sonosuke nodded, "So far so good. Now, you just have to split them off at the middle so each hand has its own set. If you've done it right, you'll be able to control how those electric threads move with your will alone. That in itself makes them more vesatile than a kugutsu-user's chakra threads which only act as tension lines to control the puppet's movements and functions." Zhi tuned into everything her dad explained, trying to do as told while listening. Her threads parted unto each hand and she focused her mind to call upon them to not only extend but take a wired ball-like defensive formation around her. Then Zhi reached out to each side, glancing toward one hand after the next as the threads were manipulated to move in various simultaneous ways. Her fingers felt tingly, but it was almost ticklish rather than uncomfortable. "Heh heh... this is super neat papa." Even Reina had a hard time comprehending what she was seeing. With such loose instruction, their daughter had so easily learned and mastered the use of a pretty advanced technique... for a genin. Sonosuke glanced over to his wife and grinned a prideful grin. This was their child, and this was only the beginning. ** LEARNED - Ayatsuri Raikou no Jutsu [ Manipulated Lightning Technique ] {{RAITON | 3/3 Posts}}
"Whew!" Zhi sighed loudly as she allowed the lightning threads to dissipate. "Now, you should know that puppeteer ninja are crafty sorts that make full use of their tricks and traps to secure victory. If you're going to make an opening for yourself to win then you'll need some crafty strategies of your own." Sonosuke proceeded to ask, "How well can you handle cloning techniques?" Zhi thought back to learning the technique back in the academy and replied, "I think I've got it down alright. Why?" Her father smirked, "Good, then we're going to get a little crazy with it. I want you to make and sustain a hundred of those illusory clones." Zhi stared at her father like he was making a bad joke. "Can... can I even do that?" Sure, that'd be more than enough to keep an opponent busy to buy time for an attack, but that sounded really hard to do in the first place. "I think you can. With the chakra control you just showed, I think you can pull it off just fine. Don't sell yourself short, Zippy!" The girl pondered on this for a few seconds and shrugged. 'Nothing ventured, nothing gained.' That was something her dad said a lot. She quickly formed a series of hand seals, adding a few extra to be able to facilitate the quantity required of this technique. "Oboro bunshin no jutsu!" Zhi cried out as she unleashed her chakra upon the area, causing several copies of her manifest, more than she would do with the normal bunshin technique at first but this amount multiplied quickly. In moments there were too many of her to easily count just dawdling around awaiting a purpose from their creator. Sonosuke laughed aloud hardily, "Well done! Well done!" He patted his daughter on the shoulder and said, "How about we try one more thing?" He leaned in and whispered several inconspicuous instructions into Zhi's ear. Zhi jumped when she heard a certain part of it but just nodded every now and then to the rest. Reina raised a brow, wondering what they were up to that they had to keep her from hearing. Zhi used her Enlightened Hand Signs skill to execute another distraction technique that would hopefully be of use to her in the upcoming fights. "Sanzengarasu." Out of nowhere, a massive murder (flock) of crows appeared around Reina and began flying well into her comfort zone. Blinding an opponent with a bunch of black birds was a pretty nifty trick. However, she was doubtful that it would do much against her mother.Still, it was her father that would surely get in trouble, not her. Zhi glanced back over her shoulder to see what was happening with her newest technique, noting that her mother seemed to be relatively incapacitated for the moment. 'Huh? It's working... on mama?" She couldn't shake the feeling that she should probably end the technique sooner than later. Zhi wished she could know what her mother was thinking while dealing with that obstacle, for several very obvious reasons. Was she going to be in trouble too? Half-consciously, Zhi focused chakra into her eye while staring back at her mother who managed to meet her daughter's gaze for just a moment. 'Ooooh! Bishie! I know you put her up to this. You better not let your guard down when we go on this mission. I'll get you for this embarrassment!' Clear as her own, Reina's thoughts were reflected in Zhi's mind. 'Whoa? Did that just... work? Ack! Can she hear me too?' Several moments of just listening to her mother cursing Sonosuke and the crows made it pretty clear that this was a one-way connection. Interesting. This could be really advantageous if combined with her sensory and speed. ** LEARNED - Dokushinjutsu [ Eye Mind Reading ] {{MARUTON | 1/1 Posts}}
With all the other clones of her wandering around and watching the scene straight out of a Hitchcock movie, Zhi figured having other types of distractions really wasn't a bad choice. If she could master this art of deception, then it'd be that much easier to outpace an opponent in almost every way. Zhi would keep her breathing steady as she acted similarly to that of her other Haze Clones. Enlightened Hand Signs allowed her to retain her subtly by performing hand seals quickly enough to not break her cover. This action gave life to one more clone, but with a lot more chakra than the others and with a function in mind much more similar to Sanzengarasu. Zhi suddenly felt a furiously intense surge of chakra from her mother. "ENOUGH!" Reina shouted unleashing a torrential wind that instantly and accurately eradicated all of the crows and her clones, but managed to completely spare her father and herself. Zhi stopped in her tracks to gawk at the aftermath. The winds quickly died down as soon as they had come, allowing a thin rain of sand to fall from all around. Reina first turned her gaze upon Zhi, but quickly shifted her attention to Sonosuke. The man gulped at the death glare he was receiving, knowing full well that he'd have to make up for this somehow and soon. Suddenly, Zhi's father was on the ground, faster than anyone else could have seen. He was down, but not out or else time wouldn't be stopped anymore. Reina appeared in front of her daughter in that same instant, towering over the girl with a stern expression. "Zhi..." Suddenly that expression shifted into a forced smile as she leaned in, causing Zhi to flinch a little and start to step back on one foot, "... honey, for future reference: do not indulge in your father's pranks. He'll get in a lot of trouble, and so could you. Okay?" The girl momentarily glanced back over at her father then back to her mother. She nodded slowly to acknowledge her mother's request. "Good girl." She stood up again and dusted her hands off with a series of soft vertically passing claps.
Zhi's mother stepped forward and said, "Now, I'm going to teach you a pretty advanced cloning technique. Master it and you'll go much further than you could with other techniques like it." First, she would display the unique hand seal used for the technique. Her index and middle fingers on each hand were extended as though one had taken the tiger hand seal and broke it apart before crossing their index fingers. "Kage Bunshin no Jutsu." At that moment a duplicate of Reina appeared right beside her maintaining the same hand seal. ** LEARNED - Kage Bunshin no Jutsu [ Shadow Clone Technique ] {{MARUTON | 1/3 Posts}}
Zhi waddled forward and poked the clone's arm, determining that it was a solid clone like the Crow Clone technique she'd just figured out. "What's it do mama?" The clone smiled and replied in place of the original, "Shadow Clones are able to be supplied with as much chakra as you want to give them past what is needed to create them in the first place. They can use all of the techniques and abilities you know how to use." The real Reina would chime in with the explanation, "A clone that is defeated in battle or dismissed by you will return any excess chakra or stamina it was given back to you. Also, you'll gain knowledge of the clone's experiences from its own point of view." Both of them raised an index finger and wagged it side to side as a warning gesture before saying in unison, "But this technique has its drawbacks like any other. Obviously, giving too much energy to it or others at the same time means you've only got a fraction of your chakra or stamina left to fight with. It's also been proven that some techniques can hijack clones. Be wary of things like that." The clone fell silent as the real Reina continued, "I recommend using it mostly for scouting and distractions. Relying on it to fight for you isn't great either since it isn't exactly the sturdiest doppelganger technique in the book." Zhi just nodded after taking in all that information to process. ** LEARNED - Kage Bunshin no Jutsu [ Shadow Clone Technique ] {{MARUTON | 2/3 Posts}}
The young kunoichi stepped back again after sorting everything out in her head. "Okay! I'm going to try now too." Zhi put her hands together to form the same unique hand seal that Reina showed her. Reina would ask, "You can learn wind jutsu too, right?" To which Zhi nodded and answered, "Y-yeah, I think so mama." Her mother nodded a couple times, "While you probably won't be able to do what I just did for a long time, I think I can show you a few other useful jutsu instead. Ready?" Zhi just nodded again and recomposed herself for the training to begin again, this time with Reina again. "How about an actual defensive technique since you seem to lack so many of those?" Reina showed Zhi a sequence of hand seals, "Kaze no Yoroi." She chanted calmly as the wind was harnessed with Fuuton chakra to wrap and whirl around herself as a miniature tornado-like vortex. "With this, you can pretty much defend against anything that ninja of your level could probably throw your way." Zhi's eyes lit up, "Ooooh... neat!" Mimicking her mother, Zhi repeated the demonstrated hand seals and released her own fuuton chakra in the same manner. Now the both of them wrapped in repelling whirlwind defenses. ** LEARNED - Kaze no Yoroi [ Armor of Wind ] {{FUUTON | 1/1 Posts}}
Reina waved her hand to the right, dismissing the winds called to protect her. "Alright, enough of that. We all know that defense is overrated.- the best defense being a well-calculated offense." Zhi chuckled, acknowledging this to be one of those contradictory lessons from her mother which she actually liked anyway. It was too troublesome to be on the defensive for too long. Not enough action. "Yes please~!" Reina looked away toward a nearby training dummy and formed a single hand seal. Moments later it would become surrounded by a sharp, torrential wind that left the dummy marred with several deep cuts which would be rather lethal to a person. "The Sword of Wind is more similar to the Armor of Wind than most would like to admit. You focus your chakra to surround the target, but you sharpen the air to inflict harm instead of protect." Considering the other chakra manipulations she'd mastered so far, this didn't seem to hard, but definitely seemed useful. "Mama, what if I hurt somebody though?" Reina frowned slightly, "Zhi. If you use this technique, or other techniques meant for offense then you must do so with the intent to harm. If you fight half-heartedly on a real mission you could get hurt yourself. Or... one of your teammates could get hurt instead." She wouldn't go as far as to point out the likelihood that lives would be on the line at times. Zhi took a little while to process that lesson, but afterward she attempted and executed the technique on her first try without a hitch. ** LEARNED - Kaze no Yaiba [ Sword of Wind ] {{FUUTON | 1/1 Posts}}
Zhi dispelled the winds from her arrow and put it away. Thinking back to how awesome the Lightning Beam technique was, she'd ask Reina, "Mama, can you teach me a strong wind jutsu?" Her mother put her tools away too and just smiled, "Very well Zhi. I'll show you a simple but strong jutsu." Reina wove a small series of hand seals and held her hands out to each side of herself. Powerful flows of fuuton chakra rushed from each palm, utterly scattering everything in their paths and upturning the sandy landscape. "Zankuuha allows you to unleash a force of air great enough to shatter rock if used properly. It doesn't use a lot of chakra either, making it a useful offensive ninjutsu." Zhi cooed in admiration then clapped softly before turning away to try it herself. Hand seals? Check. Chakra? Check check. "Zankuuha!!" Speed, power, precision, and control- all of these factors were displayed at an exemplary level. Now it was her turn to give her daughter a tactic that could be of use to her daughter in her near future endeavors. "Okay Zhi, I believe it's time you learned a technique to also suppress an opponent. It'll be useful for setting up your own attacks or escapes if necessary." Reina performed a few hand seals which were obnoxiously similar to the Armor of Wind technique. A vortex would form, but it surrounded Zhi instead of her mom. Overall, it was pretty small and clearly meant for only briefly containing someone else. Okay, Zhi would again mimic her mother's chakra molding and prepare to unleash the Tatsumaki Wana. "Okay." Their wind-like prisons were brought to an end almost simultaneously. Almost out of the blue, Reina asked her daughter, "How is your botany apprenticeship going?" So what I want you to do is think of what you learned from using distractions with your crow technique and apply them to the Tatsumaki Wana technique we just learned. You need to manipulate the wind to carry enough flower petals to block your enemy's field of vision. Zhi quickly put her hands to work to properly mold the necessary chakra and in moments a strong wind was called forth to carry a swarm of flower petals with onto the scene with it. Zhi controlled the winds to quickly surround her mother, causing the petals to leave almost no space to see past the intense wind wall. With a further display of raw talent, Zhi specifically had streams of air flow rush past her mother over and over until she felt completely comfortable controlling the chakra. Not once did she even accidentally clip her parent with the defense-offense hybrid technique. ** LEARNED - Hana Chirimai [ Flower Scattering Dance ] {{FUUTON | 3/3 Posts}}
It seemed that Zhi had rather effectively expanded her repertoire of wind techniques. Reina decided it was time to shift gears again. "Zhi, do you know what fuuinjutsu is?" Zhi had to think about it for a couple seconds. ** LEARNED - Fūnyū no Jutsu [ Enclosing Technique ] {{FUUINJUTSU | 1/3 Posts}}
Eventually she responded with an awkward nod and shrug at the same time. "Kinda? It's that stuff that some people use to do stuff with markings made beforehand, right?" Her mother sighed and shook her head. "I guess you're on the right track at least. They are sealing arts. To be honest, they cover a pretty broad spectrum of purposes and effects. The most basic is obviously to seal away other objects for later use." ** LEARNED - Fūnyū no Jutsu [ Enclosing Technique ] {{FUUINJUTSU | 2/3 Posts}}
As she explained this in a way that her daughter would be able to retain the information, Reina also drew a basic enclosing seal as an example. "This seal is for storing things into if placed on a scroll. Practice it so I can show you how fuuinjutsu will be of use to you in the future." Zhi grumbled a little at first, preferring the other training to this sort of thing, but she quickly straightened up when she saw her mother's warning glare. The girl quickly found a dried up twig and began etching the marking in the sand over and over until her mother said that it was good enough. ** LEARNED - Fūnyū no Jutsu [ Enclosing Technique ] {{FUUINJUTSU | 3/3 Posts}}
Reina nodded after letting Zhi practice that for awhile. "That should suffice. Now, you'll need to know how to bring things back out of the seal if it is to be of any use to you at all. Whether putting things away or taking them out, the size of the object you're working with will take a different amount of chakra to utilize." ** LEARNED - Kaifū no Jutsu [ Unsealing Technique ] {{FUUINJUTSU | 1/3 Posts}}
Zhi paid careful attention to her mother's lessons. They were rather unorthodox in comparison to how Reina usually trained her daughter. Despite how odd that was, Zhi felt like this fuuinjutsu stuff was supposed to be really important. Why else would she be re-learning about the very basics right now of all times? ** LEARNED - Kaifū no Jutsu [ Unsealing Technique ] {{FUUINJUTSU | 2/3 Posts}}
So far, all of it made enough sense to be able to follow pretty easily. It wouldn't be hard to make use of these techniques compared to the other stuff she'd been learning. All she had to do was make a seal to put things into then use some chakra to bring them back out. Easy peasy! Zhi really wanted to know what all these sealing techniques were going to be for though. ** LEARNED - Kaifū no Jutsu [ Unsealing Technique ] {{FUUINJUTSU | 3/3 Posts}}
Reina made an instructive gesture by raising one index finger at her shoulder height. This was to keep Zhi's attention for the next lesson, "So, I've taught you how to make the seal for storing things. As well, you've learned what is and why it necessary to also know how to summon objects that you've store in a seal." ** LEARNED - Fuuin Tsunagu [ Seal Connection ] {{FUUINJUTSU | 1/3 Posts}}
Now, I want to show you the next step before we reach out final goal on this topic." The woman drew out a relatively simple diagram in the sand in front of Zhi. "This technique is for linking any two types of seals together for a higher level of interaction. It is possible to either make one cause the others to trigger, or for them to activate simultaneously." ** LEARNED - Fuuin Tsunagu [ Seal Connection ] {{FUUINJUTSU | 2/3 Posts}}
Reina finished saying, "However, you have to decide how that is going to work when you're setting all this up." Zhi looked down from her mother at the diagrams, doing her best to commit it all to memory. So far, she wasn't really sure what all of this was leading up to though. ** LEARNED - Fuuin Tsunagu [ Seal Connection ] {{FUUINJUTSU | 3/3 Posts}}
Reina stood up from where she'd been crouching to draw in the sand and would finally get to the main point she was working toward this whole time. "Although you've learned a very useful defensive technique in the Armor of Wind, it isn't perfect. It's always best to have a backup defense just in case. Fuuinjutsu can be prepared to be useful in all sorts of situations, remember me saying so?" Zhi just nodded and waited while listening. ** LEARNED - Utsuwa [ Container ] {{FUUINJUTSU | 1/3 Posts}}
"Good. Now, I want you to shoot one of those raiton techniques that you used on your father at me." Her daughter was obviously perplexed, but she stood up to do as she was told. A few hand seals later and Zhi's hands were sparking as she released a simple Raikurai jutsu in Reina's direction. Reina held one hand out at the oncoming attack and her other hand out at Sonosuke's position as he was just finally picking himself up off the sand from his earlier beating for being a bad role model for Zhi. Bffzzzzzt!! The lightning was tunneled through the seal on the palm facing the oncoming ninjutsu and out of the other palm to be redirected right at Sonosuke. ** LEARNED - Utsuwa [ Container ] {{FUUINJUTSU | 2/3 Posts}}
Zhi's father gasped with surprise, briefly stunted from standing up the rest of the way. "You see? If there is ever a situation where you can't dodge an attack, this tactic will be useful to send it away so you remain unharmed. Just bear in mind that you'll have to use enough chakra to send it through the seals like this. Nothing is ever perfect or absolute." Zhi gawked at the awesome thing she just watched. "Everything has a weakness, right mama?" Zhi remembered that lesson from way back. If she used her head while creatively and properly utilizing her skills and techniques then it was possible for her to eventually overcome any obstacle. "Correct. So to prepare this technique you must create two Enclosing Seals and combine an Unsealing mark with one of them. Then you use the Seal Connection technique I showed you just a little bit ago to link them." Wanting to do it just like her mama, Zhi simply put the necessary seals on the palms of her gloves. With all that set up, she'd just have to wait for the right moment to need to use it. ** LEARNED - Utsuwa [ Container ] {{FUUINJUTSU | 3/3 Posts}}
Reina knew her daughter already to be a very naturally proficient sensor ninja. However, the extent of which she could sense was limited greatly in comparison to what an actual sensory technique could allow. "Zhi, have you learned any sensory techniques yet? Or are you still just relying on what you can naturally sense?" It was almost a rhetorical question, but the mother would be pleasantly surprised if Zhi had actually tried to go beyond her own limits on her own. ** LEARNING - Kagura Shingan [ Kagura Mind's Eye ] {{SENSORY | 1/3 Posts}}
Zhi just shook her head slowly and replied, "No mama. I haven't yet." She quickly added, "But I want to! It would be great if I could sense things across larger distances." Reina nodded and suggested, "Okay, so how about you try something now? Just take a long moment to focus as much chakra as you can into amplifying your sensory powers." It would be interesting to see how far she could go with such an aloof sort of instruction. Normally it wasn't her style, but it could be impressive nonetheless. ** LEARNING - Kagura Shingan [ Kagura Mind's Eye ] {{SENSORY | 2/3 Posts}}
The girl wasn't entirely sure how to go about this. Although, compared to everything else learned so far, this probably wouldn't be all that hard to do either. Zhi took a deep breath and closed her eyes to focus. Chakra welled up within and throughout her small frame as she thought solely about wanting to see further than she had ever done before. 'Focus... focus... focus...' Just as a picture began to form in her mind she felt antsy about standing so still. Zhi took an unconscious step and the image broke immediately. "Almost had it. I saw a lot, but I guess I can't move while I do this. Phooey!" Annoyed, Zhi sighed and tried again. This time she pulled it all together pretty easily and found herself sensing an incredible amount of everything around her. It was even easier to identify thanks to the fact that her papa froze time for her training. ** LEARNED - Kagura Shingan [ Kagura Mind's Eye ] {{SENSORY | 3/3 Posts}}
A heavy sigh of relief fell from Zhi's lips as she momentarily basked in her success. For the most part, it seemed like she could see for about one kilometer. Maybe that was because she still had to focus resolution of detail perceived? Otherwise she could probably see further than that. Oh well. Sonosuke finally picked himself up once more and wobbled over to his wife and daughter. "I-Is everything going okay? How long was I out?" Reina rolled her eyes and scoffed, "Bishie, if you were out then your time barrier would have ended." Sonosuke chuckled awkwardly and shrugged, "Right, well... details." He turned his gaze down upon Zhi and smiled, "Feeling okay?" Zhi smiled back and replied in a chipper tone, "Yeah! I feel great." Reina chimed in, "Great, because I'm going to take you completely out of your comfort zone. Zhi, you're too talented with your chakra control to not make use of any genjutsu. It's time to overcome this hurdle." The girl's happiness was shattered under the weight of the new expectations dropped upon her. "B-but mama...""You know better than to talk back like that. At the very least, don't mumble and whine if you disagree with something. Regardless, you're doing this and your father will help you again this time." Reina stepped back to observe from a short ways away again.
Sonosuke patted Zhi on the shoulder and nodded, "Don't worry, just focus on making illusions that distract your opponents or that will give you an opening to counterattack. Genjutsu is pretty much only limited by your imagination. Your mother and I know that you have a very healthy imagination, so that's why she's pushing you to do this." The father would take a moment to hug his daughter and finish by saying, "Zippy, believe in yourself. Believe in the you that we believe in too." Zhi felt unusually happy with these reassurances, so much so that she almost cried. Instead, she held her tears back to focus on the task at hand. Zhi quickly hugged her papa back and separated so she could try to do this genjutsu business.
"Distractions, huh?" Zhi mumbled while trying to come up with a genjutsu to start off with. "It would be hard to react to something if you don't know where it actually is, right?" Sonosuke nodded in agreement. "So..." Zhi stared at her father's eyes intently while pacing around. A very modest amount of chakra was applied onto her father, but it would be enough to get the desired effect. His depth perception would be thrown off quite a bit by the time she started walking toward him. When she was already inches from being able to tap him on the chest, he was seeing her standing more than an arm's length away. ** LEARNED - Okuyuki Katawa [ Depth Distortion ] {{GENJUTSU | 1/1 Posts}}
Throwing off the enemy's spacial perception was good, but outright breaking their vision would be useful too. Zhi figured she'd give this a whirl too. Her hands instantly flew through a few hand seals. Finishing them and focusing her chakra onto Sonosuke resulted in his skewed view of the world becoming badly fractured like a broken mirror. "Whoa! Good one..." He gasped and took a surprised step back. It had been awhile since he saw this genjutsu. It was a good choice indeed. ** LEARNED - Kugurinukeru Meikyou [ Through the Looking Glass ] {{GENJUTSU | 1/1 Posts}}
With her father's field of view torn up, it would be that much easier to further throw off his depth perception at her own discretion. Zhi completed another set of hand seals to prepare the chakra, more than used for the Depth Distortion technique for a slightly more refined effect. All at once, Sonosuke would feel the fissured world shift around even more. Specifically, everything would seem to be two feet closer and off to his left. It would be hard to tell at first since his vision was already broken up though. ** LEARNED - Youma Tacchi [ Ghost Touch ] {{GENJUTSU | 1/1 Posts}}
"Great job, Zippy! Now how about some defensive illusions?" That was practically her only warning as he pulled his sheathed sword from his back and swung it down at her, guessing that Zhi wasn't really expecting him to put her through these sorts of paces so suddenly. That meant that she was likely too comfortable positioned right next to him, but he didn't mind playing a game of pinata-whacking too. Zhi could dodge this pretty easily, but she figured her papa meant for her to use an illusion to distract him while she did so. A single hand seal was formed and she moved to step aside of the incoming attack. The illusion left behind would make it look and feel like she'd been whacked right over the head. "Wha? Why didn't you-" He stopped mid sentence when he heard his daughter giggle at him believing she messed up. "Oh. Heh heh, nice." ** LEARNED - Mougo Shibaku no Jutsu [ False Strike Technique ] {{GENJUTSU | 1/1 Posts}}
Sonosuke drew his sheathed sword back, off to his side. It was Zhi's only warning to brace herself again. This time, Zhi would get something similar to the last time ready sooner and see if she could use it at the last possible moment to make a more convincing effect. Her hands flew through hand seals before anyone could even notice and she returned to her previous stance in that instant. Just a moment before her father's sheath would connect with the side of her body the prepared technique's chakra was unleashed. To Sonosuke, it appeared that he had again cracked his weapon hard against his daughter, intentional or not. In reality, Zhi had ducked under the attack and rolled behind the missed strike to end up off to his side. ** LEARNED - Aitou no Hibiki [ Echo of Lament ] {{GENJUTSU | 1/1 Posts}}
Sonosuke was being a bit more attentive to detail this time, and was noticing that the impact he felt while hitting the illusory version of his daughter was just a little off. "Baby girl, you have to make it more believable. If you can fool me then you can fool anyone at least of your skill level." It was a fair bit of encouraging instruction. Zhi nodded and considered how she might be able to do that. ** LEARNING - Niseshi no Gijutsu [ Art of Fake Death ] {{GENJUTSU | 1/3 Posts}}
Her father shook off the momentary illusion of his injured daughter and looked over in her direction. "Got it just about figured out? Think about all the other jutsu you've learned. What did you have to do to get a better result from a similar technique?" Zhi tapped her chin lightly with her index finger, really trying to pin this concept to the wall. Generally speaking, she just had to use more chakra and control it better. So far... that method seemed to be a standing law of the ninjaverse. ** LEARNING - Niseshi no Gijutsu [ Art of Fake Death ] {{GENJUTSU | 2/3 Posts}}
A sigh from Zhi's father brought her back to the matter at hand. "Ready? Show me what you can do, Zippy!" She watched her father assume an actual fighting stance this time. He was definitely some level of serious. Zhi recognized this and wove the necessary hand seals near-instantly again as Sonosuke charged forward. The last hand seal was slowed just as her father would direct a thrusting strike with his sheathed blade, aimed dead center for her solar plexus. The sound of crunching bones' cartilage attempting to resist the force of the strike resonated outward and Zhi was launched back past her mother. OR WAS SHE!? Dun dun dunnnnn!! Nope, she executed her technique flawlessly this time. So much so that Sonosuke actually dropped his weapon and went running after the illusion with apparent worry. Reina patted her daughter's head approvingly as she hid behind her mama. "Excellent." The mother mumbled quietly to her child. ** LEARNED - Niseshi no Gijutsu [ Art of Fake Death ] {{GENJUTSU | 3/3 Posts}}
While Sonosuke continued to look over his hurt daughter, opting to avoid actually touching her so that he wouldn't harm the illusory girl more, Zhi's mom continued to whisper, "Genjutsu is not solely for distractions and trickery. Used well, it is also good for manipulating your opponent." Reina continued to gently pet her daughter's head and finished by adding, "We are masters of speed, but that also means we must be masters of controlling the pace of a battle in even the less obvious ways." These less than direct suggestions and lessons stuck to Zhi, but she honestly wasn't sure what to do with them. ** LEARNING - Chototsu [ Recklessness ] {{GENJUTSU | 1/3 Posts}}
Reina nodded toward Zhi's father. "He looks defenseless, but in actuality I'm certain that he is aware of your illusion. Counterattacking him now would be foolish. But you can use that against him all the same. Use his mindset and arrogance to your advantage." Hopefully, this time Zhi would finally understand what was being implied. It was up to the girl to figure out how to craft a hypnotic illusion that would give her an advantage even when she was expecting the enemy to be on guard. ** LEARNING - Chototsu [ Recklessness ] {{GENJUTSU | 2/3 Posts}}
Take away their guard. Obviously, that made the most sense. 'That has to be what mama means. I'll try to make an illusion that makes papa not try to defend.' She stepped away from Reina and took a deep breath before she hummed a short tune. Of course, this actually drew attention to her, but that was the point. The chakra carried in her musically muffled voice would reach her parents and in turn stifle any defensive nature they'd developed throughout their careers and lives. Rather, it would prevent them from using any overtly high tier techniques to protect theirselves. Since Reina suggested this in the first place, she was well aware of the genjutsu's presence. Rather than simply thinking that she didn't want to, it was more like thinking that she didn't have to. Sonosuke on the other hand felt himself getting unusually riled up as he stood and faced the most important women in his unnecessarily long lifetime. ** LEARNED - Chototsu [ Recklessness ] {{GENJUTSU | 3/3 Posts}}
Noting this feeling, Sonosuke quickly employed a genjutsu release to avoid accidentally taking things too far against his daughter. "Well well... that was pretty impressive. You actually did have me fooled for a moment there, and I definitely felt a certain kind of way because of whatever that other genjutsu was going to do." He paused and said, "Keep in mind that you can use genjutsu to fight genjutsu just like most people do with other ninja arts." Reina quietly huffed, wishing that Zhi had actually attacked the man instead of just putting the technique into play and leaving it. She released herself from the Recklessness technique too, but fell completely silent again. It seemed that they had just about spent as much time as they could possible need to in preparing their daughter. ** LEARNING - Meiryou no Hibiki [ Echo of Clarity ] {{GENJUTSU | 1/3 Posts}}
Zhi was a little curious about how illusions could fight each other, but she just nodded to acknowledge what her papa said. Recognizing that so very obvious look in her daughter, he elaborated, "It is possible to invoke an illusion on yourself and allies that not only relieves weaker illusions but could also temporarily prevent more from coming upon you." He'd raise an index finger near head-level like he was a teacher. An imaginary diagram appeared for the captive audience to enjoy. "Think of your chakra pathways like an elaborate system of aqueducts. They flow normally when everything is fine, but would be pretty full if some kind of genjutsu was in effect. Only a stronger flow of water could clear out the system unless it was just outright flushed. Meaning that you could keep everyone's pathways full so that they're at least safe from weaker illusions for a while." Zhi thought the example was completely left field. ** LEARNING - Meiryou no Hibiki [ Echo of Clarity ] {{GENJUTSU | 2/3 Posts}}
Why the heck were they talking about plumbing now? However, she kinda got the gist of it all. "Soooo... it's kinda like the Release technique?" Zhi wove a decent amount of hand seals as quickly as she could manage then projected the molded chakra outward onto her parents. Not that either were still being affected by an illusion, but if they were then it'd be flushed out and replaced by the increased water flow from her own protective illusion. ** LEARNED - Meiryou no Hibiki [ Echo of Clarity ] {{GENJUTSU | 3/3 Posts}}
Sonosuke clapped proudly as he felt the momentarily relieving effect of Zhi's technique. Reina quietly opened her arms to her daughter as an offer for a congratulatory hug. Zhi promptly accepted the offer and ran into her mama's arms to enjoy the moment. "Good work, Zhi. Remember your duties as the future successor to the Zenshin family. Do not tarnish our family's name before you have even come of age." Bittersweet as the hug ended up being, Zhi appreciated it entirely. To brighten the mood a bit, Sonosuke chimed in, "Also, remember that you're good as long as nobody ends up being faster than you. I think you'll do great, though." Reina would have preferred that her husband chose he words a little differently, but she agreed. Even if the Iron Maiden's son was expected to be difficult challenge, Zhi would give the lad quite a run for his money. Sonosuke briefly joined in on the hug then they all said their good byes.
When her special training with her parents was finally over, the three of them would be released from Sonosuke's peculiar technique. "Bye bye mama! Bye bye papa! Wish me luck!" Her father knelt down and patted her little girl atop of her head. "Do your best and you won't have to regret anything, whether you succeed or not. Remember that, Zippy." Zhi smiled at her dad, her cheeks slightly flushed red due to her cheer. It was nice to spend time with her parents when she could. This was something she wouldn't forget, and a gift that she wouldn't waste if she could avoid doing so. Her parents parted ways with their daughter after some hugs and kisses. Zhi looked back toward the academy with a brilliantly kindled fire in her eyes' azure hues, "Look out everyone! Sunagakure's number one hyperactive speedster is here to do her best!!" Her hollering echoed a short distance off of the outside of the academy as she headed toward where the tournament was supposed to be so she could watch the matches before her own.
