Yes, well... perhaps then I won't feel so dizzy when it happens then.

*soon enough, they walk among the much smaller residents. Looking around, some of the houses seemed to be ravaged.... battle scars adorned almost every one, pieces of each house missing. The streets were also clean, probably due to Mastema's cleaning of the city*

*She looks at the homes*
I wonder... what could have happend here?
*In the back of her mind, Nana wondered if it was witnessed*

*He looks around solemnly* Virtually the entire city was like this when I found it. Based on some records in the archives, I believe that, perhaps a few decades ago, there was a war and this city was on the dividing point of two countries. I believe there was a bombing, which knocked out the energy supply and law enforcement depart ments. That's why I had to create a new one. Most likely there was an uprising and a city wide riot. That most likely brought the city's inhabitants to its end

How sad. Wars, over such.... trivialities.

Humans tend to take much offense when their honor or dignity is at stake, that's often the first start of war. After that, they find economical, social, or other pathotic reasons to make it a legitimate quarrel

*Nana nods*
Yes... I've witnessed such things in the past. Several human battles.

Very well.... *He slowly leads her over to a half broken white colored house. He gently swings open the door, which falls off its worn hinges in mid swing* Hmm.... perhaps this place is older than I thought. He steps into the first room, which had dusty old rugs and wooden furniture in it

*Nana closes an eye when the door hits the floor of the house. A small dust cloud pushes in all directions from the impact spot*

Could there be pests of some kind responsible for the degration? Something more than simply time, is to blame. That much is obvious.

Perhaps. It's possible that I'm wrong about what happened here..... I didn't find any remains of formerly living creatures of any kind when I came, perhaps there was something else that brought this civilization to an end. *He walks into the next room*

Perhaps some sort of natural disaster of sorts? Gases, animals turning on the humans. They may have fled if something like that had happened. Or perhaps... perhaps they all surrendered.

Unlikely. Animals generally lack the intelligence to clean up clear evidence. If the citizens had surrendered I would believe the city would have been restored or destroyed completely. My guess would be, as you said, some form or gas or radiation..... however it still doesn't explain the complete lack of life or evidence of any form. This seems too thorough to be just a war struck city

Then all one can do... is speculate. Unless there is hard evidence in some form or another of what went on.
