She tilted her head from side to side, attempting to put the pieces together. "There's a patient involved with that? And possible building destruction?" A puzzle with ill-fitting pieces that she hadn't the least idea of what might be pictured when assembled. A lack of information didn't seem to matter too much however, as she seemed pleased by the information she had. "Oh~ That's quite something, there." Until the further reaching elements weighed down upon her curiosity. "Not... not too dangerous, I hope?" Didn't matter if he was difficult to actually hurt. To stop worrying she'd just have to stop caring. An impossibility.
Pouting a bit at being told 'don't worry' yet again was just a natural reaction for her. But the realization she'd all of a moment previously that she did the very same to him all the time too kept her from protesting such treatment. And in that way, it was a little amusing. So a bit of a smile came up with the nod she presented to indicate that she understood and accepted his answer.
Patcchi awake and wriggling within her hands, she allowed him to finally join in on the reception of attention that the rest of the family was enjoying. Hand at the side of her face, Amarante couldn't help but admire the sight. Altogether it was just entirely too cute. Ah, but he'd asked a few questions. Said hand rubbing upon the side of her face betrayed her sudden and odd attempt at looking nonchalant. "I let Miya name the rest. It's a lot of names for one person to come up with, but... I think she's missed having pets." Nothing so wrong with that. Perhaps a bit sentimental in purpose but that was hardly an off-kilter effort for the sentimentalist in question. "The girls are Kiya, Misa, and Magda. The boys are Asa and Yuya." An assortment of name origins that worked well together, too. So what was the problem? "The parents are..." Her arms ended up crossed as she quickly shot her gaze away. "Aya and Edel." There it was. That girl knew what she was doing, naming those two. Better to quickly segue to a related subject and hope he didn't notice! "I think sometimes she even reads to them. Not making a big deal about doing so, I mean, but just as her own sort of kindness to them." More cuteness, too. She couldn't look away for long, too compelled by said cute sight. Rabbits hopping about, rabbits playing with each other, rabbits happily flopping because he'd given them attention, him. It was practically hypnotic. A shake of her head and she remembered she'd been speaking. "And sometimes afterwards we'll all eat fruit together, just as a treat I mean, and..." She was still lost to the scene unfolding before her if the rambling was any indication. With a laugh she decided it was okay to enjoy the moment for what it was. "Heh. Well, it's rather fun. This is... this is too!" She grinned and grinned. The result of their long-awaited meeting was better than she'd hoped.
Of course she wouldn't be deterred by what she'd come to expect. "So practical, this one~" Someone had to be, around the likes of her. But the usual mellifluous tone made it certain that it was hardly a criticism. "I find it a nice thought, even if it isn't exactly practical." She was under the impression that she couldn't exactly stay with him and he couldn't exactly stay with her. Perhaps there'd be a time to ask more directly and find out, but it wasn't now. Better to entertain but not pressure towards an idea that seemed unlikely from the start. "The idea of feeling a little more safe, asleep next to you, I mean." Said so lightly and sweetly as if he were a normal sort of person to receive such a statement. Though on the surface one monster sharing the bed of another was almost comprehensible in an odd sort of way. "Though being used by you to stave off freezing would hardly be something for me to be upset about, surely." Her smile made up for her lack of directness about the matter. Being held close by him for any reason at all; what a thought to savor! Deadly for most and probably still a little dangerous for her as far as non-contagion variables went, but still highly desirable as far as she was concerned.
"'Them'?" There always seemed to be some sort of 'them' involved in some way or another when it came to the two of them, especially if it was in opposition. "Well. Our luck being what it is, accidents seem likely." And not just the cutesy awkward ones, either. And how incredibly difficult was it to not meet his tender words with ridiculous declarations of affection, though? Tempting as it was it would just embarrass him more so even with trembling limbs and all of her visible skin very obviously pink it'd just be better to hold back for his sake. Perked up and eye bright she did her best to offer her assurance, though. "But, I shall... I shall do my best to do as you say. I promise." Sadness started to set in again as she came to her reasoning over the matter, but it couldn't be avoided. "I... I don't want my time with you to be cut short by anyone or anything." Her head ended up hanging a result... it was all too sad. Better to acknowledge the potential for danger rather than blissfully ignore them, she figured.
Didn't mean that she'd stop fighting back against them all, however. "B-but, you're supposed to be relaxed today. And reading? And playing with rabbits, it seems~" Swinging her arms as she took the few playful steps it took to approach the group, she leaned in with her hands upon her knees as she addressed the ongoing fuzzy commotion. "A distraction to my distraction, it seems." For the most part he seemed to be at ease though. And how often was he able to touch things outside of necessity, more or less pet them? She had to be a little happy about that, smiling as she straightened her posture. "There are treats and toys around here somewhere." One'd think they'd be scattered everywhere, considered how she kept her own room. But it seemed everything in the library was kept in order; even the unintentional residents and their accessories.

Oh, sure. It was dangerous, too dangerous for anyone to be meddled in, actually, but would he tell her that? Be honest! "It is quite, but... Well, someone has to do it. Might as well make myself more useful." Any horn-tooting was not needed, for those recurring patients had come to depend on him as a necessity for suitable medical treatment. "Well, when you have people who seem unlucky enough to have so many run-ins with those kinds of entities?" Normal people meeting those eldritch horrors? Most didn't make it out with their mind or body intact. For not just someone, but a group that had contact on a regular basis, and of the not non-hostile kind? There were the reserved hospital beds and the wrestling services to get patients into said beds. Even if they try to leave before their recovery period is up. "..... Yes. There is a patient involved. Multiple patients, but only one's capable of damage at the most basic level." A cursory glance at the folder, surely that data would be filed in there as well. Or maybe because said folder should not have been able to move on its own.
"Thank you." Not sure how well he could take that, but it was a promise all the same. Enough for a slight smile. Slight. If a straight line was one pixel off and that could be counted as a smile. The extent of his frozen expressions!
Somehow his mind made the connection that Aya was pink, Edel was black. Um, it's Aya, not Aiya! "Was Miyabi that annoyed with its fur colour?" So puzzling, so he resorted to trying to stack as many of them as he could on his head. One, two, three... Supposed to be studying, eh, but instead playing. Well, having a drink while doing so wouldn't hurt! Reaching for that tray.... huh? Where'd it...? Someone had better tell him soon that it was just right above his head before he stood up. Or worse.
"..... As safe as hiding behind an airlock door would be? Not very." Unfortunately, the hospital was a dangerous place. Very dangerous. Not even airlocks could hold off whatever thing that happens. Would be problematic if they were caught mid-nap. "The staff would be the last of your worries."

She couldn't be pleased with what he'd said though it wasn't something she could change either. If she attempted to rip him away from his duties in an attempt to place him in an ill-fitting role of her own making it'd make her no better than the others that had attempted the same with the likes of both of them. "Best for the both of us to be careful then, yes?" But, before his mind wandered too far upon that note. "Mostly from the sidelines on my part. Yes, yes." She'd only just promised she'd stay out of trouble in that regard. Really no need to have him thinking her whims had quickly reversed themselves. Frustrating though, so frustrating. Of course she'd want to protect him no matter what, but what good would it do if it was against his wishes? It certainly upset her whenever she'd witnessed others doing just that to him... why hadn't she thought of it that way before? She didn't want to be anything comparable to the likes of them. That frustrated look upon her face had started to ease up, only to remember what taste she'd had of just what was being dealt with in the case in question. "Scary. That place is definitely scary." And basically nothing had happened to her during that time. Just sensing things. Seeing things? No, no. Couldn't have been. Maybe shaking her head would make that idea and the displeasure visible on her face go away. Still in denial. Nevermind that things in her home seemed to be moving around when they conceivably shouldn't have been, as well. No! Maybe paying it no mind would make it go away. But using a hand to shield the side of her face that didn't have the eye on it hardly helped matters.
He'd noticed! Sort of! Well enough, anyway. It was enough to cause her to mumble out words in a terrible attempt to distract him from the heart of the matter. "No no, it's because Aya starts with A and--" Just making things worse, with that! But his poor skills in noticing things were a match for her poor skills in hiding embarrassing things. "I mean. She lives a rather pink life, now... would be rather difficult if she hadn't learned to accept it." Pink in her hair, pink in her energy signature, and seemingly conceding to her pink fate by covering her body with the color as well. Though any further pink-related thoughts ended up broken by the continued jerky movements of her head turning from one side to the other in disbelief at certain sights she'd finally started to notice since he wasn't hurt and wasn't on her lap anymore. "And, and... speaking of accepting things, there seems to be things... floating, and moving around. I'm not the only one seeing that, right? I can't be. Right?" And again making fevered attempts to cover the already covered side of her face. The realization and resulting comedic disappointment in herself finally hit her in time, head hanging for a moment as she took it all in. It was a lot to process in a short amount of time, wasn't it? Bruises and not-funny tomatoes and worries and hair touching and rabbits. So many rabbits. "Drinks would be nice, surely, even if you won't be reading for a while." Even if she couldn't bear to look at them for the time being.
Were all the rabbits on his head being counterbalanced by him being even more practical and realistic? She couldn't really be angry at him, looking even more cute than she usually found him with so many rabbits nuzzling at his head, but she could certainly puff out her cheeks over it. "Haa~" She couldn't expect him to have the same kind of frivolous romantic thoughts she had, but did he have to be so harsh about it when she understood perfectly well that it was all little more than pipe dreams in the end? "There is a greater likelihood of you staying over here than me staying there, as unlikely as that still is." See, she'd even said so. 'Unlikely.' No pointless pleas to goad him into sating whatever whim she happened to have at the time. "And a feeling of safe is not an actuality of safe. But it does no good worrying over it all the time, does it? But... as far as illusions go that's a rather nice one I think." For the most part the only assurance either of them might find was the idea that they'd live through it. Not guaranteed, but more likely than most. And yet, far less safe in the world than most as well. Funny how those things worked out.
She had no problem accepting his view as it was usually, but... meek as the effort was, she felt it necessary to stand up for herself in this case. "I'm well aware of how limited that scope as a whole is already, so... there's no need to join in on the scolding too, okay?" Sometimes she really did need to be plucked from the clouds and brought back from the surface world. But would a little leniency really be all that bad? "Not that you'd have to, but..." It was a bad idea, wasn't it. A bad idea to think and a bad idea to voice it. But she'd already started, so. Might as well blurt it out! "Perhaps we could both ease off on our guards a little, at least when we're together? Mindset-wise." She'd just done the same with her roundabout way of making a promise to him so it wasn't as if she was innocent of that same behavior. "I mean. I think the cold hard reality of everything's been ground into us enough that we're not going to lose all reason just through a little relaxation." The smile that came was awkward and frustrated at best. "Maybe that's just as bad of an idea as any of the others, but..." With a sigh she dropped to the floor, legs quickly and neatly folded underneath her so it was obvious that she hadn't fainted or fallen. Just out of frustration. Why did the chaises have to be so far away? An aloof little Patcchi eventually padded over to his fallen 'owner,' mostly wondering why she was on the floor again. He crawled into her nearest sleeve and licked her hand anyway, intent on emphasizing that he appreciated her regardless.

Perhaps someone would say it's a necessary evil, compared to what the staff went through. He for one, however, was simply content to help and not reject. However, she should be fine.... If they were kept mostly separate, right? "It's probably as safe as it'll ever get. I'm sorry for the inconveniences while you were there."
"... Aiyaaaa." Surely a word not in his native vocabulary! "A pink rabbit. A girl too." Already his favoritism was obvious! She already got a lot more stroking and poking as opposed to the rest of them!
Finally, he takes notice and looks around. "Floating...? Oh." Good, he looked up. And down comes the pile of scrambling rabbits on his head. Oops. He picks off his drink, seemingly content with not studying for a while, and the tray goes back to sitting on the floor. Somehow. There's not supposed to be any other entity in this room who's invisible, was there?
Alright, alright. She had enough of being lectured over and over again about how unsafe it was. Well. Can't help but worry, as always! "Yeah, we'd probably never get anything done if we were both uptight all the time." What to do when you're hard-wired to be uptight, though? Try and relax by piling even more rabbits on your head! Except it's a whole capacity of two wriggling rabbits before the pile came down. Maybe her lap would be a better idea, and he scootches over to start over. One rabbit on her lap, two, three....

Rather than taking issue with his 'sorry' she was driven to a state of defensive cheerfulness. "I-it wasn't a problem!" Why should he feel apologetic about living conditions he was unlikely to have chosen for himself, after all? And at least she hadn't said something like 'it didn't bother me,' when any way one looked at it, it very clearly had. The hyper awareness of a cat made an entertaining match for a body that shouldn't have been afraid of much of anything. Settling into a momentary calm, she tilted her head towards him as her further curiosity was voiced. "How did the rest of that day go for you after I'd left?" Was it appropriate to ask how any particular surgery had went? Brusque as she could be, the finer points of etiquette did occur to her at times. Even if it did end up followed by some light teasing. "No more sleeping at your desk, I hope~" Though there definitely was some concern to be heard in that hope as well.
She ended up looking at him with a mix of confusion and amusement. "You seem to be stuck upon that word." And was soon a shade of pink that matched her symbolic rabbit as she noticed he was paying quite a bit of attention to her. Eye darting everywhere across the shelves she finally spotted something that didn't fit in, reaching up to pluck it from the books it was mostly hidden behind. Though taking the care to pop one in her sleeve, she pushed the packet of apple rabbit biscuits towards Erhard as to keep the rabbits' attention upon him. With one distraction in place she went into more rambling. "Emphasis is really quite important, isn't it~ Though it certainly seems to just be one of those names, used by many cultures with different meanings involved. She likely derived it from Japanese, being that she is Miya, but even then the meaning is left obscure without seeing how she'd write it." The English alphabet certainly stripped out a great deal of the personalization that came with names. It all brought up another point of interest for her, though. "Is it that you're familiar with languages other than the two, Eru?" He likely knew at least some German, didn't he? And the obvious necessity of English. But what else did he know?
Not questioning the floating tray... not even seeming to be the least bit bothered by it! His companion looked less than thrilled by the sight, still, but was relieved when said tray was finally removed from its strange status. "Does this... do things like this happen often to you?" For one of the creepy crawlies of the night herself, Amarante lived a rather normal life. Far more normal than he did, it seemed! Still, she wouldn't let her wariness keep her from her long awaited sweetness. The one in the cups, anyway. Fingertips pressed lightly to the side of the tray in the usual cat fashion of testing things, she was quick to snatch one up. Straw inserted and long sip taken, the high level of sugar and caffeine content was quick to set in. Eyelashes fluttering it was clear that a deeper sense of giddiness was definitely settling in as well. "Ah, so good~" But even high on conventional substances, she was proud of her trade and expressed just that. "Getting frozen dessert, chocolate, coffee, sugar, and that heavy dose of caffeine you'd wanted all in one drink. Hopefully you'll like it!"
And that euphoria was furthered by the fact that, well. He'd actually agreed with her! She didn't expect disagreements and arguments. And he was perfectly sensible in being careful and practical. But maybe he'd started to understand that rather than being dismissed his concerns were always considered and integrated, as that was definitely what she sought to accomplish. "Can't really blame either of us, in any case. But... hopefully the cases where we're left defenseless end up truly rare." With that, it was all she really wanted to think about all that for the time being. And while she didn't have any sort of expectations from his sudden approach, the rush of the caffeine high definitely gave an edge of excitement to it. Soon she was being covered in rabbits, much to her delight! With one arm she lifted the sleeve with Patcchi to let him inspect the situation for himself and with the other she was petting and treating the somehow overflowing pile of rabbits. Eventually some soft laughter could be heard. She couldn't help it. It was all too much fun!

"Ummm.... Nope?" Definitely not used to people asking him about his day, so he had to take a moment to rack that memory for that day's happenings. "Nothing much else of note, just a couple of ops and rounds and intern-minding." That his colleagues were suspiciously giggling so much that day probably did nothing to help. "Oh, um, someone stole all the tacos in the cafeteria later on. We found taco wrappers in one of the wards afterwards." He shrugged, like that was the only significant thing that had happened. Or dangerous. Certainly, he was not looking forward to be trapped with her between a wall and a gun again. ".... Hopefully it only happens once, that kind of situation."
Ah. That penchant for getting names wrong was starting to rub off a little, too. "Uh.... No, just those two." And the smattering of slang that came with being around someone else for some time. And then it couldn't even be considered a language with the context he learned it in, technically. "Marie was trying to teach me her speech manners, it... It did not go over so well." A conglomeration of multiple languages smooshed into one? Of course it'll be hard to learn, and worse to mimic!
'Often' was a terrible, terrible understatement. Don't laugh, it was not something funny or something to be proud of! "Uh, not really. I don't have things floating around in the office. Much. I think... I think this is just an outlier." Well, it was the whole of one person affecting the tray. Last he checked. He had not checked that morning, something might have happened. Well, he would know if something happened. It probably would be really visible, or he just had to listen for a ear-rending shout. On second thought, that was probably not a good idea.
But that certainly was not stopping him from - ooh, yummy. Sweet and creamy, even if someone was going to complain that it was on the extreme side of sweet. Maybe the content closed-eyed slurping would do as a compliment? It was rare enough to see that kind of disgustingly cute behavior performed by him, one might wonder just how he managed to pull it off and is still unable to smile.
Hey, hey! What happened to petting the rabbits! Hey! Oh, never mind, at least they had both food and something to climb all over.

"Oh~ Your wariness about food thieves doesn't seem to be the least bit unwarranted if things like that are happening." She almost sounded impressed with the scale of said taco thievery. "Why tacos, though? Surely those are not worth being caught and disciplined over." Of course the former prospective lunch thief would think along those lines. Not scorning the act itself but questioning what about it she didn't agree with. "Surely it's more fun to sneak sweets. Even if one is discovered and swatted upon the head afterwards." Quite the expression of both amusement and indignant defiance was showing upon her face after saying that oddly specific declaration. "Just a bit of mischief, after all~" Though with a resigned sigh it was obvious she wasn't so sure that one occasion of being trapped like rats would be all they'd be so fortunate to encounter. "I wouldn't think that we shall ever be so lucky as for that to be the case. But... I shall hope that it is." With a pleasant little smile and nod she affirmed that she wished for that truth as their own.
In that way it was a little amusing for the long-lived Amarante. "The two languages I've known the least amount of time~" That someone such as herself knew German at all was an interesting coincidence but not especially helpful in the end. "Though, what is the purpose of learning the speech manner of another?" There was only one odd and roundabout conclusion that she could end up at. "Were you dressing up as people again? That sounds fun, actually. Let's play dress-up, sometime~" Simply answering her question had led him to be mired within her weird ideas again. But it was not without consolation, it seemed. "I mean. No one else would have to see us, if that would help." If that was in fact any consolation at all.
To say she was not the least bit thrilled about the idea of any sort of intruder was an understatement. "Haa~ Is someone else here, then?" She peered around as if it'd do any good. Her spiritual abilities were competent but hardly a specialty of hers. "And if so, do they have to be?" She'd wait for an assessment before threatening to unleash the super spiritual one who just happened to be home upon the potential nuisance.
Contentment was apparently contagious. The rambunctious rabbits seemed to be settling down and the one-eyed rabbit wrangler just across the way seemed to be feeling quite fulfilled too. She almost felt... fortunate, for the way things had just happened to fall together. Well, for the most part. But it was hardly a nice thing to look upon him with quiet appreciation if she was weighed down by guilt as a result of the various disappointments that had happened too, right? They were decisions long since passed. No changing them but no need to let them put a damper on any bit of enjoyment they could manage, either. Though she still ended up wondering out loud about it all. "Was it lucky or unlucky that we met, I wonder~" She'd wondered the exact same thing previously, in all likelihood. Mostly a rhetorical and contented sort of question, with no indication of any sort of answer being sought for it. Questions that were sighed instead of plainly asked were rarely all that serious anyway.

"...... It was the same person." He looked like he desperately wanted to laugh, but would rather not have her unnerved for the rest of the day. "The ward was where his friend was staying for recovery. Guess who ate it all. I don't blame either them though," he mused, wincing slightly at the thought of the usual hospital food. "On other days, the hospital food is... Well, what'd you expect, really. In comparison, the tacos taste a lot better, even if the one making them isn't very skilled." Conveniently leaving out the rage the patient and the ghost suffered from him once he found out.
Ah, he could tell her that, right? "To fit in, mostly. The people in that place Marie lives in don't exactly speak English um, properly. It's confusing to keep up with them sometimes, so she's been trying to teach me words." Somehow, he looked sheepish about it, and it was not even about the clothes just yet! Ah, wait, there, he looks a lot more embarrassed now. Must be the clothes idea.
"I... don't think so? Logic does not exactly grant invisibility. Unless...." He sat up straight, staring at the space where the file had been floating. "Unless we got followed? That's low. Really low. Not the right thing to do at all." A pause, as if he was expecting a reaction. When there came none other than silence, he sighed. "Looks like there isn't. Well, not physically there, I think. How did that go again? There must be a reason why it happened, therefore it did. I just don't know the reason...." Was Amarante lost yet? "... Never mind. Could be a fluke...... I'll ask him next time." Oh well, that paranoid feeling was going to be hard to shake off now. Things happening via that route always had some kind of specific reasoning behind it, but he was not going to be able to discern the reason now, was he? And whatever thing he was supposed to be alerted to, it did not follow them back all the way to the house, right? Miyabi would have noticed, the same way she had noticed that other person.
He could worry about that later. Relaxation time is now! Not deep thinking time.... okay, since she was asking them. "How about... Unlucky to the point of being lucky?" Roundabout answer! Always roundabout, never constant. Seriousness was still a question though.

Her mind was piecing things together in a way that almost made sense. Time to wager a guess! "The penguin?" Well, not actually a penguin. But it was the easiest way to convey that they might be talking about the same person. The sticking point of the matter wouldn't leave her, however. "Still. Tacos." Likely more bothersome to the likes of her that anyone would want to gorge themselves on anything other than the things of her liking than any sort of bias against tacos. Either way it was pretty ridiculous, though she was easily distracted from being flustered over tacos by the odd face he was making. Or was it like a blank space of an expression where there should have been one? Curious situation any way around it, and the exaggerated moments of her neck as she attempted to figure it out showed her puzzlement clearly. "Something wrong? There's just something... about your face." Would 'something wrong' work better than 'are you all right' in situations where the possibility of him being hurt wasn't involved?
And as quickly as one of his explanations had drawn him into her strange ideas, another seemed to have fished him out. "I see, I see~" She was too busy happily understanding and nodding to remember her repeated dress-up idea she'd had all of a moment previously. "Have to wonder which of us has it worse when it comes to trying to blend in." She ended up playing with some of her hair as a result, very aware that it was a factor in giving her quite the upper hand in that competition. Though he himself wasn't without strangeness. She had to acknowledge that much. "Maybe your restrained expressions bother some. Though surely most see you as being stoic!" Of course she'd be cheerfully helpful about something that hardly bothered her at all.
Rather than being incredulous over his equivocal explanation... it almost looked like she'd understood, even if it were only her own equivalent of understanding. "Almost like some sort of... time disparity." Someone'd been spending too much time around Miyabi. Time this. Time that. Temporal plate of spaghetti as far as Amarante's understanding went. But, she did seem to relate the event almost sensibly, so maybe being attentive despite her lack of understanding was starting to sink in. "An event that was scheduled to happen and so did, even if the actor involved was missing?" Though her words still had the faintest outline of caution to them, the continued feeling that either of them could voice their ideas without fear of ridicule was nice. But, that wasn't the real issue at hand that made things more difficult than she would have liked. "Ahh~ I just want to talk to you as I like and not get in trouble for it, mrr~" A growing comfort that made it easier to say whatever needed to be said, but still the ever-present threat of just who might be listening looming overhead. "We've plans to make, after all." Ones so eagerly awaited that she'd gone so far as circling around the ideas without really touching upon them while in that dangerous and scary place. It seemed like a skill she'd have to brush up upon. Sitting quietly with him could be nice enough but there'd be no doing so merely for the consciences of others.
Taking care not to bump anyone or anything, Amarante saw it as an appropriate time to sprawl out upon the floor. Arms stretched out, legs neatly folded to the side, head free to roll about the floor as she pleased. And naturally the response to an answer to a dreamy question had to be dreamy too. "That's so right, isn't it~" One irritated rabbit freed himself from her now collapsed sleeve while others explored her expanded 'lap' as well as sidling up to her as well. While a laugh showed that she was in good spirits, her voice ended up crackling with emotion anyway. "All this time and I've never been so happy to be so unlucky. Not at all. But I am, with you." Rolling her head over just so in order to look at him mostly just caused all of that fluffy red hair to fall in her face. Somewhat awkward to have to push it out of the way, but maybe a smile could make up for that. Those pitfalls of awkwardness wouldn't get the best of her forever!

Aaaand once again the blushing attacks! "N-N-Never mind about that... Yeah, the uh, penguin did it all. Mmm-hmm." Forcing his head down so that she wouldn't think he was having a fit or something might help. Or just an ice cold head. Yeah, that was much better. Did not even need to turn his own head solid, just one large and hasty mouthful of drink did the trick!
Well, stoic was one way to describe it. Maybe the next time she was going anywhere, he could give her more than an eye. Less frozen muscles to deal with, but - ahey! Better them think he was simply emotionless than admit he had trouble with expressions, though. Being the 'wooden plank' in one group was more than enough for him. All the more reason to try and prevent his colleagues from prying, if it meant them not embarrassing him with so, so many incidents. "I suppose it's better. For the best." People would probably not take him so seriously otherwise. Ridiculous ideas plus ridiculous behavior's a no, but ridiculous ideas and being ridiculously serious? People get scared. Oh well, can't win either way.
"Mmm.... Close enough!" Not like he knew any more than that to know whether to correct her or not. The file can help! A quick flip back to that page for a reference first. "And.... A direct actor does not necessarily have to be involved, if there is little to no possibility of one," he recited, thumb running a line through a couple of annotations. And then his head fell against the page. ".... Ugh. I do wish this concept was easier to put into words. Wouldn't need such explanations."
Snap! And he's back at attention. "Right! Um.... " Only to fall short. How was he going to go about discussing dates? It was different than scheduling appointments, and normal social visits, a date is an important thing, must remember to not be late... "... Was there any place you had in mind?" Let her choose the place then, with his luck they might just run into bad situations again. "Just... Uh, I hope the hot sun isn't coming along?" Flat attempt at a joke too, then.
The cheesiness was overwhelming. For those who knew it for what it was, that is. He certainly was not included in that group! Hmm, where was that - aha! He picked up Aya (Aiya...) carefully, and dropped the pink bundle of fluff onto her head. Reason given? None. But this was new, a happiness from simply being present rather than a service he performed. Was 'existing' a service as well? Oops, pseudo-brain frazzled itself out. Aiyaaa. Yeah, thoughts, mess up his mind a little more, why not?

"...?!" There were certainly worse reactions that could have been administered upon the cheeseball in question than a rabbit to the head. Any sort of normal person probably would have felt insecure about that sort of reaction and his silence, but. Nah. They understood each other well enough by this point, didn't they? Removing the squirming rabbit with both hands she rolled to her side. "I'm serious, though~" The resulting tone was halfway between laughing and pouting, so it was clear that she was having fun despite any dubious variables related to seriousness itself. The level of comfort involved made it possible for some words to come out far too easily, though. "To the point that I--" While there wasn't any ice involved she certainly had ended up frozen in her own way. Aya freed from her outstretched arms and fingers, the resulting sight was probably more than a little comical. But despite everything she couldn't help but be a little shocked anyway. Just when had she started thinking like that anyway? Was she supposed to take solace in the fact that it came so naturally that she'd practically blurted it out? Turning her face into the floor there wasn't much left to do other than sigh. She liked him too much.
Still face down, she ended up mumbling a bit anyway. "Why would a penguin want to eat tacos anyway. Hmph~" While it was doubtful that she'd actually forgotten that the penguin wasn't actually a penguin or that she really cared about the tacos all that much, seemed they were both guilty of using him to avoid something or other. The shame!
Removing her face from the floor for the purposes of admiring him seemed like a good enough reason to do so. "That assumption leads to some reading you as rather sweet, doesn't it?" That clinical type of care was certainly enough to draw and keep the attention of the likes of her, lacking any type of care for most of her unending days. But apparently she still saw herself as apart from the rest, somehow. "Like flies to the poisoned honey, that lot." Bold words from miss didn't-really-keep-her-hands-to-herself-either. In that way she'd been right, however, as it wasn't as easy as simply infecting the likes of her. As for any others? "Not much to worry about, anymore, at least." Right? Between him caring about her happiness and her gaining just a little more bravery over the situation it seemed like it could be more than enough. No being emotionally trapped by so-called 'friends' again, for sure. Being trapped between a wall and a gun seemed almost tame by comparison.
And it seemed that being confused gave her further reason to sit up. "Having it make sense in the first place would probably help a great deal as well." With the pert little smile that was included it was clear that it was meant as a smart sort of remark. Towards whatever sort of concept escaped explanation, of course, and not towards him himself. "Is there supposed to be any sense found in things floating around like that?" More sassy remarks like that and with her luck the flying objects would be after her next!
She'd kept him at the beach too long, hadn't she? Really, really too long. But that kind of choice opportunity hardly came around all that often, and! Well. Rather than providing more apologies and excuses, maybe some assurance would do instead. "Heh~ Might be best to stay indoors, the first time around." A cheerful statement with a whole lot of nerves behind it. It meant that there was an intended pattern, didn't it? It meant there were intentions put forth about it being a regular sort of thing, didn't it? She could scarcely believe it and she was the source of all of it to begin with. Petting rabbits was a good distraction to keep her thoughts away from becoming frenzied. "Well, restaurants are the usual setting that's chosen... can't go wrong with that, I would think." She could also be pushing her scant luck too far by being so bold as to say so, but it was unlikely that a lesson would be learned from saying such things and suffering the repercussions as a result. "Or if you'd wanted to cook you could use the kitchen here or at the apartment." Far from cutting edge as far as her suggestions went but she had her reasons. "Better... better to have a secure start and save any excitement for later?" As if either of them had any shortage of that in their lives.

She....? What? Would it be better to ask? Or maybe not. Or maybe drop one more rabbit on. Come here, Edel! Pop, onto her head! And then he went back to drink sipping.
"His friend would know. I don't." And he hardly had the time to ask. Between treating said friend and company, anomaly research and his medical duties? Who would?
If they even got past that icy exterior in the first place! At least Marie did not need to deal with Little Miss Kettle either when she called him 'so sweet, like your coffee!' in front of her classmates. This time it was that that turned his face red. The blushing thing is starting to get really old. ".... Mostly. Yeah." If only they could put aside all that. Oh no, but the gravitational pull of two trouble magnets put together was too immense!
His stare at the folder was dry and humorless. "Funny. It's logic, but yet it does not make sense." It actually did, but it would not count if it made sense to only one person, did it? "I hope there is. If not then it probably means that I'm assuming the wrong entity is behind this, and well...." Would spell trouble if he was wrong this time. Or at least, an unknown magnitude of danger. That could not happen, right? Surely none of those had decided that today was a great day to tag along and pop in uninvited? Please?
Must be lucky. The folder flipped itself open as if by a stray breeze and landed on that reference page. Okay then, he could quell that paranoia.... For now.... And ask that person later on. And also request that he be left alone when he's not on his shift.
Was she going to take him to an Italian restaurant and order him ketchup and fries? He was pretty sick of that joke. A better place than spending a summer's day outside! "Okay, you choose then. I... I admit I have barely any knowledge of places to visit." With a defeated sigh, he resigned himself to her location ideas. Who took their date home on the first one, anyway? That was so... Corny? Was that the word? But he could use it as an excuse to spend a week or so thinking of what to cook. It might result in him depleting her tomato and sugar supply, however. Idea canned! "I don't mind if you want it to be exciting, actually. Would it help with the nerves?" he wondered aloud. Of course there would be nerves, and not just for him! It's a date! So why was he getting so nervous already? They haven't even settled the when and the where! Poor rabbits, having to bear the brunt of both their aggressive petting now!

Even if he hadn't questioned her sudden silence he'd acknowledged that he'd been listening to her, in his own strange and cute way. While she showed an appreciative smile she didn't make an attempt at saying any more. She could explain at a later time. That was, when she was more prepared to deal with the consequences of her explanation. Would he freeze himself solid? Would she have to deal with that other guy again? So many unfortunate possibilities at hand. But for the time being, there were rabbits to wrangle. She'd decided to let Edel stay on her head in hopes that would fulfill the apparent lack of head rabbits she was in need of but it was apparently not meant to be. The little pink rabbit was soon upon Amarante's lap, pawing at her ribs in an effort to climb the redhead to reach the black rabbit. With a quiet sigh she conceded to placing both of them upon her lap, the concerned Aya quick to nuzzle at the side of the face of the oblivious Edel.
Some assurance made it a little easier to touch upon some subjects that had retained a great amount of sensitivity to them. It was still a situation that lacked her usual boldness, though; eye fixed upon the brightly colored rabbits before her and voice low and unsteady. "Scared. I was so scared, then. I know I'd said I was afraid of my feelings, but that..." With careful fingers she petted the rabbits, making sure not to interfere with any of their nuzzling and snuggling. "That was different." She reached up to her facial covering and began tracing a circle over it repeatedly with her index finger. "Not smart. Not pretty. Not sweet. Not--" The tracing indicated she was referring to herself, but her refusal to look his way meant she hadn't said it with the intention of fishing for him to tell her otherwise. After a time she stopped, though, and she looked up at him even if the eye that met his looked pained. "But not seeing you as some sort of prize." She'd really felt she hadn't had a chance against any of those others. But they would've just tossed him aside once they'd bored of him, wouldn't they?
Any sort of laugh would've been a relief after another harrowing encounter with her own self doubts. "Heh. Better for you to have said it than me." The rest of his mumbling ended up concerning her though, the twisting of her mouth and biting of her lip clearly showing her discomfort. "Though, I still can't help but be a little afraid for you." Best to clarify her intention lest he misunderstand her, though. "Not because I think you can't handle it. Just because... just because I'm me." With a sheepish little nod of her head hopefully that'd be acceptable.
He was quite something, wasn't he? He hadn't just accepted bunkering into the rabbit hole forevermore, but had encouraged her to be a little more brave about the whole thing. Just moments previously she'd felt awful and scared. And through no special effort he already had her smiling again. The resulting giddiness might end up unbearable, if she could ever be capable of doing even a fraction of the same thing for him. "I suppose you're right. Seems I've gone so far as the beginnings of protecting you from fun, too~" That said, she casually tossed a rabbit biscuit upon his lap and watched as the littermates scrambled to scale him in order to retrieve it. Who was lacking fun now? And of course, she couldn't help but feel both amused and timid at her over-the-top way of doing all manners of things. "Though a lot of the things I think of might be a little... much." More like vacations than dates, really. Which included so many warm and social places, too. What was up with that? "Ah~ It's only too bad that gardens are still very much out of season. Too much sun, too." Well, at least she was trying to keep her date's concerns in mind. "Maybe... a park? An aquarium? An amusement park? A museum~?" So many ideas, and not all of them were outside! Not her usual sort of haunts but all fit into her mindset well enough, right? That whole wanting to do pretty much anything and everything with him? "Are those better choices? Anything you'd prefer?" Wouldn't be fun for her if any of the suggestions ended up making him miserable, after all.

He was a prize? Err..... Was he? Nah, the best he could do for people was medical aid or exorcism. Not understanding the least. Was this the legendary 'girl talk' that he had been warned by his colleagues about? Something that was said but he would never be able to grasp its meaning.... Which resulted in more silence and drinking. Other than his hand moving of its own accord and petting her head - she's not a rabbit, that was a mistake! Oooops. She would not notice, right? Err... But then there were no more rabbits on her head, so he could not use 'trying to pet Edel' as an excuse.
Hooo boy, if she knew what he had to deal with? Getting locked up in her fridge was probably the best thing she might do. "That's okay. It's fine to worry." Not fine to tag along for 'protection's sake', though. "It's normal. But really, please don't. It'll be better if you stay safe and worry instead of... well." Whatever things that might happen.
"Hey." He would remove the biscuit for the problem of crumbs on his coat - oh hell, he was already going to smell like rabbit when he got back, the intern was going to laugh, why not just roll with it. Besides, can't help it if there's a large bundle of pettable fluff on his lap. Now, what had he learnt about dates? People got attacked at amusement parks, people got attacked at aquariums, people got attacked at museums, people got attacked at parks. Or he just should be less paranoid about it. Let's see, a park would have people, an aquarium would have feely ponds, an amusement park has hazards, a museum has boredom. This was not working at all... Okay, how about the one that she might think the most fun? Most likely... "The amusement park, sans human attacks, right? I mean, um, what about there?"

Maybe he couldn't understand the needlessly noble intention put forth by her words, but whether it was intentional or not there did seem to be some sort of understanding that her emotional wound needed care. Naturally that hand, being his, would be very noticed by her. And being the often impulsive person that she was, she couldn't help but take that hand for herself. Said hand happened to end up pressed between her face and her own hand. So cold! The sensation wasn't quite the same as skin against skin but it'd have to do. As if he'd let her do that for just any whim! She certainly looked to be happy enough with that, anyway, his fingers ending up over her closed eye as she clutched his hand a little more closely. She was still smiling as she took the hand away from her face, gingerly entwining her fingers with his for a moment before letting them go. No need to awkwardly keep a lingering hold upon him when she'd likely have other chances in the future to do just that. He'd likely be bewildered enough by her show of affection as it was.
She nodded, almost begrudgingly accepting as she was told. "I hate it, but... I know there are just some situations where I cannot help you." And how she hated it! Especially when in her experience such adversaries seldom stopped at just what was expected of them. "Eventually, though, they might just try to capture one of us in order to try to entrap the other." There were too many multitudes of possibilities for 'they' for her to think otherwise. The corner of her mouth curled, making the form of a frown upon her face. "I'm not sure how reliably calm I can be in cases such as that." He'd definitely seen a glimpse of that lack of control put into motion before. That ancient nature that not only took no issue in killing, but enjoyed it and desecrated the remains of the enemy as well. Though she'd shown him that she was no unthinking animal either, more than willing to quietly surrender herself if fighting back just wasn't an option.
Was it right to feel the slightest tinge of jealousy that rabbits could be on his lap so easily? Well, she supposed if she liked she could easily welcome herself there and be frozen just as easily. Nah, no reason to really be envious. Hardly comparable, even if the attention seeking intentions were somewhat similar. Her silly ideas aside, his slip of the tongue definitely required more attention. "'Human attacks'? Is that something that happens to you, or... ?" Her mind had just been touching upon the idea of others bothering him and delving further into the subject didn't make her any happier about it. She didn't ignore that there was plenty about him that most would consider outside of the idea of 'normal.' But he still had the right to exist, hadn't he? "If that's the case and you'd still like to go regardless, I'd be glad to act as a living shield for you." Well, she'd want to do that anyway. But she had a valid reason to cheerfully offer herself as such! Wasn't always a need to destroy one's enemies, after all. Sometimes fending off their blows and sending them running thanks to a sharp and scary stare was enough. "I'd love to go there with you, if that's what you'd like." There were definitely lots of silly opportunities for closeness and unusual things to eat in such places, after all!
