Luke had woken from his nap was was trotting about the halls in his wolf form. He had nothing to do since the classes were over for the day. Or it was a break in the teaching schedule. He couldn't quite remember... He spotted Jethrow and gave him a nod in greeting. The wolf proceeded to go down to the dining hall. Maybe he could get a bowl of something to eat.

Lunora was just approaching her sliding paper doors. She loosened her obi a little, the kimono's folds rippling to suit the slack. She opened the door, but left it open as she opened the doors that went to her balcony to let in a nice breeze.

"Lost in this world of love and war."

"I should probably apologize for being a complete and total evil jerk, shouldn't I?' Demetri mumbled into the silence between he and his brother. Jethrow looked over his shoulder at his younger brother, and shrugged, with a small smile. His way of saying Demetri was forgiven. Demetri gave a small smile back, before they stopped in front of a door. Jethrow just opened the knob and stepped aside. Demetri nodded to him, walked in, and heard the door close behind him. The inside was rather plain, but as soon as he started to look around, it changed. The previously empty bookshelf filled itself with what looked like a replica of Jethrow's book collection. The bed grew larger, and the sheets and pillows changed color to a dark blue. Thicker curtains grew over the windows, but stayed pulled back to allow in the sunshine of the afternoon. The closet shrunk, and the young wizard was sure that the clothes inside were all black and blue. A desk began to appear underneath the largest window, covered in parchment and spellbooks. Demetri smiled a little and walked over to the desk, putting his hands on the wood and leaning over the chair, inspecting the books. He caught a title underneath a pile of rune books, and he turned it so he could see the spine, then he pulled back his hand as if he'd been burned. It was a book on human emotions. Some kind of joke?

If everything were as it seemed, life would be a dream.

Anya pet Searan's head, the sharp edges of the scales not bothering her at all. It was a relaxing movement, and she felt the need to relax. After all, according to Jethrow, she'd been kidnapped into another dimension, brain-washed, tried to kill them all, then had been un-brainwashed in an intense way. She sighed, leaning her head against a tree and closing her eyes. The butter-dragon-fly made a small noise, then stood, shaking out his wings. Anya opened one eye and raised an eyebrow at Searan. The creature touched his nose to Anya's hand before spreading his wings and floating up to the caste steps. Anya just closed her eye again, taking a deep breath and thinking about taking a nap. Her head hurt a bit, and the day was clear and quiet--just the kind to fall asleep on.

There is much to learn in this world. To learn it, you must realize you know nothing.

Jethrow left the closed door of Demetri's room with a small smile. It was nice to know that his younger brother hadn't been evil by nature...That he hadn't caused his brother to go evil, though, in a way, he had. He returned to his study, staring out the window for a moment and catching sight of his student, sleeping by a tree. Yes, things were going back to normal, it seemed.

Searan folded his wings against his back and nudged the door of the castle open with ease. As he'd grown, he'd developed a great strength force, as well as other things...

- - - - -

Alone in the castle, Searan shifted through his confused thoughts, and decided he was tired. He pushed his still-small legs up the staircase, headed down the hallway, and nudged open the door to Anya's empty bedroom. He sighed sadly, hopping up onto her bed and curling up at the foot of the covers.
Searan opened his eyes sleepily only a few hours later, and when he stretched, he frowned. His wings... Looking over, the creature jumped in surprise and looked down at...hands? Sure enough, it appeared that the dragon-butterfly hybrid was now...part human? As panic began to rise up in his throat, something he wasn't accustomed to, scales appeared on his skin again, and he morphed back into the dragon form he was used to. His thoughts reorganized themselves into a dragon's mind, and he was able to breath calmly again. This...could be very bad.

- - - - -

Searan took a deep breath and picked at the simple clothes he wore. He looked like any other traveler, but he was nervous. Half the time, he still thought like a dragon. Seeing things in pulses and comparing them to things he knew. The other half of the time, he was beginning to think, he suspected, like a human. He tried to picture lives for the people he saw in the town below. With a deep breath, he slung the near-empty bag over his shoulder and headed down to the town. Human interaction training was what he was going to call it.

- - - - -

Searan had spent a few days in the village below the Castle of Mesilici. It amused him the stories they told that were supposed to be about Luke, Anya, Jethrow, and Lunora...

- - - - -

Searan let out a dragon purr as Anya pet his scales, and closed both of his eyelid layers. He was reminded of when she'd first found him by the side of the lake. Due to the maturity rate of dragons, he'd been barely an infant in mind, and had hardly understood what was going on. Now, he felt that same confusion, but now he was aware of it. Searan inhaled, as if to relax himself, and caught the scent that he'd identified with Anya from the beginning of their friendship. It was floral, like a scent you'd find in the forest, which made sense since she was part faerie. He nudged Anya's knee a bit, the scent growing stronger. Frowning, Searan sat up, and looked up at the castle.

- - - - -

Searan pushed into the dining hall and caught sight of Luke. Luke, he said quietly into the wolf's mind. May I speak with you?

Luke had been enjoying a nice juicy steak out of a dish before Searan had spoken to him. The wolf glanced back, half of a chunk of meat hanging out of his mouth. He slurped it down and licked his chops a little before facing Searan fully. Sre. What do you need Searan? he asked, tilting his head to the side in curiosity. It wasn't usual for the dragon to come to him for things...

Searan looked around at the few people that were in the dining hall, putting food away and offering more food to Luke, and to Searan. If it is convenient for you...I'd prefer this conversation take place in private, he said to Luke. The dragon's tail switched anxiously, and he knew that the emotions flooding into his mind were changing from a dragon's thoughts to human's. He could control his transformations to a certain extent, but he tried to calm himself down, knowing that the more he lost control, the sooner he'd transform.

Luke nodded and transformed into a human, telling the servant to wrap it up for him later. He'd be back for it. He then went to the door and smiled. "Let's take this to my study, shall we Searan?"
PostPosted: Mon Jan 31, 2011 6:47 pm

Searan nodded and followed after Luke. The trip up the stairs and down the hallway to Luke's study was a tense one for the butter-dragon-fly, and he let out an audible sigh of relief once they were in Luke's study and the door was shut. While you, your sister, and Jethrow were retrieving Anya.... I discovered that the magic that Demetri placed on me when I was still in my egg was even greater. With a twitch of his tail, Searan's scales began to shrink. They disappeared, replaced with a dark-blue or black colored tunic and pants, and shoes. His wings shrunk into his back, and he stood as tall as Luke, with shaggy black hair and dark blue eyes. "Small things, a scent or a thought, will change my ways of thinking and my emotions. A dragon's mind is simpler, more direct. Their emotions are few, but heavy. Loyalty, anger, ferocity, etc. From what I've experienced, it seems human emotions are confusing and complex. I can't sort through them or understand them, so when they begin to flood my mind, I think...Panic is the word for it. I panic, and the transformation happens. I have to calm myself down and force my thoughts to be simpler to become a dragon again."

Luke watched the transformation, listening to the butter-dragon-fly. He nodded occasionally and thought. "It seems Demetri's magic has influenced your basic make up and that in turn gave you this humanoid form." the wolf said, offering Searan a seat as he sat in a large armchair. He pondered for a few moments before speaking. "These emotions will be new to you Searan. I will tell you, they will frighten you at times." he said, still thinking, pulling out a small book and writing occasionally. "Probably one of the wizard brothers has a book on this. Their collections are mind-boggling...."
PostPosted: Mon Jan 31, 2011 7:13 pm

Searan nodded, taking the seat Luke offered him and agreeing with what the wolf said in his mind. "A book will be emotionless, though, won't it?" he said, a little confused. "How will a book prepare me for the actual emotions? I've already learned to fear the transformation, believe me," he said, shaking his head. This was the first time for him interacting with someone he knew personally as a human, and he certainly feared telling Anya.... If his thoughts as a dragon were any indicator, he wasn't sure how he'd act as a human.

"Actually no. Books have a way of drawing emotions out of us. Making us experience things we don't normally feel. Besides. I think a book is a good starting point for you." the wolf said with a small smile.
PostPosted: Mon Jan 31, 2011 8:07 pm

"Starting point?" Searan questioned. "What about the emotions I've already experienced? Will books explain those to me?" A little bit of...frustration? Something like that. A little bit of frustration flared up in his voice, and he rubbed his head, utterly confused. "I'm starting to have trouble separating some...emotions from form to form. They're also emotions that I can't identify. Would you be able to identify them?"

"Of course. What you just experienced was anger. That is a dangerous one. Much demonstrated by my sister. Now that's scary stuff...." the wolf said, shuddering a bit. He then got up and looked to the dragon. "What else have you been feeling?"
PostPosted: Tue Feb 01, 2011 12:14 am

Searan nodded slowly. Anger. He'd experienced a bit of that as a dragon, but he knew it was more controlled under a dragon's logical mind, versus the human's emotional one. "Well, as confusing as it is for me, I'm sure this is normal for you. I have feelings that muddle together. Also, something unusual for me, is that I feel particular towards certain...people. For example, I do not know your sister very well. I remember her scent as being that of a fox, and I remember only her strength and her anger. I feel as though I would not cross her path willingly, but I could hold my ground were I to be forced to do so. I would prefer her an ally than an enemy." He put his elbow on the arm of the chair and ran his fingers through his hair.
"I...feel quite the same for you. I suppose that would be called...Respect perhaps? I think that's the term. I respect the two of you, as equals. I would stand for you in a fight, as I would Jethrow or Anya.... However...." he sighed a little. "I do not....trust? Trust Jethrow? I think that's what it's called. I do not feel at ease around him, and I would not easily share this with him, as I do you. I suppose that relates to when I was a hatchling and Anya trusted you with the secret, but not Jethrow." He rubbed his forehead a little. "I believe those are trust, or distrust, and respect, from what I've been able to gather. After those, I have no idea what the emotions are. As I said, dragons think differently. Before this transformation began, I saw you as Wolf, Lunora as Fox. I knew your names, but I did not relate such things to your faces. Anya was Little Faerie, Jethrow was Great Wizard. Names were unimportant, and feelings did not appear from names. However, now, when I say any name, I immediately have a collection of emotions that relate directly to them. I believe I understand Jethrow, you, and your sister.... however, Anya confuses me." Searan shook his head.
"Hers is the first face in my memory. I was...frightened perhaps is the word... I was frightened when she was suddenly gone, and none of you seemed to know where she was. I was, as you called it, angry when Lesser Wizard, er, Demetri, kidnapped her and changed her mind's pattern. When I saw what she had become when you brought her back, this was after the first transformation, I.... The only way I can describe it is that I...hurt. It was both a physical and emotional pain. She was cruel and altered, and I did not like it. I may not trust Jethrow, but I will always...appreciate what he did, changing her back. As soon as she was normal again, and the evil was cleared from her eyes, the pain vanished. That is what confuses me."

Luke listened closely. "It seems you worried for Anya. Worry and grief are very powerful emotions. They can devastate a being and destroy its mind. My family would be a prime example." The wolf said, going in front of the fireplace, staring at the flames. "You felt connected to Anya because she was the first person you trusted. And when she was kidnapped, you were scared for her. Fear is also a great destroyer of minds." Luke hadn't looked up from the flames, slowly sinking into his own thoughts. "When we brought her back, you hurt because you cared for her and you could see so much pain around her change. But when we returned her to normal, you relaxed, knowing she was out of harm's way." the wolf finished, still not having moved. "I think you're starting to care deeper for Anya than you're realizing. There is one emotion that can confuse any being. Love."
PostPosted: Tue Feb 01, 2011 3:30 am

Searan listened intently. Worry and grief. He hadn't heard them mentioned before, but he mentally stored them away. Fear. Yes, he knew that one. When he'd woken up, alone and not in the nest he'd thought would be waiting for him, he'd been quite scared. He could see what Luke meant about being connected to Anya--she'd found him and cared for him. Searan tilted his head at the word, love. He'd heard it a few times. Demetri had 'fallen in love' with Luke's sister. But he didn't fully understand the term. "What is love exactly? When Jethrow told you that his brother loved your sister, what did that mean? Can you love your sister, or can you not?"

"I love my sister. I care for her very deeply. Love is... hard to explain, Searan..." the wolf finally moved back to his chair. "So I will explain it as my mother did. My mother was a very powerful fox demon, but she was the sweetest person in my life at the time. Ad she told me there was only one way to find my true love. My mother told me that there is a red string tied to our pinkie finger. And on the other end of that string is the one meant for us. And you'll only see it when you find your love.

"But that's how my mother explained it to a child. It worked actually. But love is the feeling that you get around someone. The feeling of comfort, safety, and longing to stay there. The yearn to be close to that person and the want to help them, make them happy, comfort, anything. You'd want to do anything fr the one you love."
