The walls of the library always left Seth feeling overwhelmed with the wealth of knowledge that was stored within the castles walls. There must have been millions of books that his father had collected over the years. Many of them Seth had read, or rather had been handed and told to read. To hunt other races, his father had told them, you had to have an understanding of those races. Lucid had once told him that he had read every book that had ever found it's way into his home. With how long the ancient had been alive, Seth could believe such a statement readily enough. Though it still baffled him how anyone could keep so much knowledge in their minds. Many of the books were in languages he had never even heard of, much less knew how to read. Some seemed to be composed entirely f odd symbols and others were even warded, only to be touched by the master vampires hands. Shaking his head, he made his way carefully down one of the many rows of books. He wasn't sure what he was looking for, but something had drawn him into the room, and as of late, he was following his first instinct more than anything else.

Lucid stepped into the library, pleased when his gaze found Seth already there.
"I think I may have figured out why those people are after Lyra." he said pleasantly, striding over to a shelf of books. He began to look thorough all of the books on the shelf, going to the next shelf when he didn't see the books he was looking for. "See if you can find the book of Ancient Races, and I will show you."

Seth frowned and heaved a small sigh. leave it to his father to make such a monumental task sound so simple. Finding any particular book in this room usually took hours. Making his way to the opposite shelves, Seth scanned the various books.
"You have several books on Ancient races, which one are we looking for?" he asked quietly, not bothering to question his father any further at that moment.

Lucid turned and gave Seth a slight glare.
"The Unicorn one." he said then started up the stairs to the second level. "I think it has a pale blue binding with gold lettering on it." He began looking through the piles of books that lined the railway of the second level, looking for the book in question.

Pausing in his stride, Seth turned to stare baffled at his master.
"A Unicorn...really..." he asked unable to keep the disbelief out of his voice. "They are not even real, no ones really even ever seen one..." he muttered but not wishing to buffer his fathers disappointment, he began hunting for the all important book. A couple of hours later, Seth called out to Lucid from the third level of the library.
"I think I found it...I can't tell because its all written in gibberish." he announced, tucking the book carefully under one arm as he descended the ladder. The book was also very heavily warded, and the only reason he knew it was gibberish was because of the odd ornate gold lettering upon the binding.

Lucid took the book once Seth was safely at the bottom of the ladder. Turning, he strode over to the fireplace and sank into one of the huge armchairs there. He then carefully began unweaving the wards that he'd placed upon the book for safety when he had first obtained it. Once the guards were gone, he opened the book, blowing the dust off of it. The pages were old and yellowed but the thick black writing was still very clear.
"She has a mark upon her forehead, right where the horn of a Unicorn would be." he said. "She also told me that her blood was very rare and could change colors. When a Unicorn is in human shape, they first bleed red, to fool whoever is attacking them. But if you wait long enough, the blood turns silver." Carefully turning the pages, Lucid read the script with ease. "It says here that young Unicorns still show a mark of their horn while in human form. She can't be that old." He looked up at Seth. "A Unicorn's blood is the most powerful blood of any living being. She told me that the men who captured her when she was still just a child let a vampire feed from her and that it did things to him. Bad things. He became severely addicted to her and allergic to any light. That only happens when the blood is taken without permission."

"But you even told me once that the contents of these books couldn't necessarily be trusted." Seth pointed out logically, though such a thing did make sense, the odd marking that graced Lyra's forehead and as for her blood, that could be tested out easily enough.
"So her blood is powerful...but for it to help it has to be freely given. Why would they keep her then..it obvious she isn't going to just give it to them."

Lucid heaved a small sigh.
"Maybe the people who are after her don't know that. After all, this book is the only book that was actually written by a Unicorn. He gave it to my grandfather after my grandfather rescued him from a hunters trap. It isn't exactly like there are that many Unicorns to ask these questions." he said quietly. "According to the text there are only two Unicorn on this plane of existence at any given time. They are made of light and holy magics and travel here from their own plane through a magical opening."

Seth frowned and struggled to take the knowledge in.
"Perhaps she fell through such an opening by mistake. It makes little sense that they would send a child with no knowledge of what she is or how to protect herself here." he spoke quietly, and remembered what little he knew of the race. It was said that a unicorn was one of the most powerful beings, dragon perhaps being the only other to match them.
"I thought unicorn magic was light..because that's what they are made from...how could one use light magics for destruction? Isen't that the opposite of what it's meant for?"

Lucid shrugged.
"Maybe they thought that if they consumed enough of her blood, they would become as powerful as the Unicorns. Some people get lost in the power possibilities, and forget to think logically." he said, then closed the book, setting it aside. "They weren't too far off the mark though. The Unicorn itself cannot be destructive, since it's holy by nature. But if someone else with less then holy intentions, or in this case ill intent, the powers gained from the consumption of the blood could be used for evil purposes." Lucid leaned back in the chair and closed his eyes. "However, if that is the case, then someone is already able do cause such chaos. There was the vampire that drank her blood." He opened his eyes, glancing worriedly at Seth. "If he comes here, he might cause far more damage than I thought. She said that he was the one that always found her and took her back when she ran away. And if he's a vampire, he'll have formed a blood bond with her the very first time he drank from her."

Breaking off into silence, Seth hesitated for a very long time. he knew his father, and knew how his father would feel about what he was thinking. But if such a man were to come to the Haven they might not be able to stop him. Seth knew that from the worry written very clearly over Lucids face.
"Perhaps you should drink from her." he suggested quietly, then hastened to explain.
"Because the other vampire took it from her he's addicted...badly, and exceedingly allergic to light from what you said. You can go out in the light of the sun so long as it's not the brightest point of the day. You also once told me that without being turned, the strength of a blood bond can pass between vampires. A turners bond exceeds all but just a blood bond, one can be stronger than another. It was all based on the strength of the vampire and the age. I doubt this other vampire is as old as you are...and if you formed such a bond with Lyra couldn't you block him from her?" his voice remained quiet though Seth spoke with an intensity that was rare in him. Once again he was seeing Lucid vulnerable and the instance scared the s**t out of him as nothing else could.

Lucid started to protest this, but thought about it instead. Seth was right about one thing for sure. If Lucid drank Lyra's blood, he could block the other vampire from having any kind of connection with her. And if he couldn't, he knew someone who could. There were very few pure blood ancients left in the world, with Lucid and his grandfather making up most of the list.
"That could work, if Lyra was willing to help." he said, smiling at his son. "I knew some of what I taught you sank in. Even if it was only a little bit." Reaching out, he picked up the book, tucking it safely between his arm and his side as he stood. "I guess I shall go drop this off in my chamber, go feed, then go talk to Lyra again when I get back."

Seth grinned and raised his gaze to meet Lucid's.
"Yeah...I guess some of it did." he muttered and watched his father start to leave. Things seemed to be moving quickly now and Seth could only hope that problems would be resolved soon. Wanting to lighten his fathers mood a little, he chuckled and struggled to contain all his laughter.
"Hey Lucid...just think...Lyra's a horny horse..." he managed between chuckles and unable to keep his laughter in he sank into one of the high back chairs and let it out.

Turning at the door, Lucid gave Seth a glare.
"That was not nice." he said, but smiled all the same. "However funny that may be, I had better never hear you call her that again." Shaking his head, he made his way out of the library and headed toward his chambers, all the while chuckling about Seth's comment.

Lyra sat against the far side of the wall near the pools. She had braved the dark of the under chambers, not sure what she had been hoping to find, and had stumbled across them. The strain of thoughts and voices in her head were becoming too much, she thought bitterly, watching the steam rise from various pools that surrounded her. She was so tired...tired of running, tired of fighting the voice that constantly whispered at her to come to him. Though she knew the promises that that voice promised were nothing but empty lies, though his threats were not idle ones. Leaning her head back, she let her eyes drift closed and drew in a calming breath, drawing strength form a pool of her own that was hidden inside of her. Clearing her thoughts, and her frustration and fear, she focused only on the voice that whispered to her, playing on her doubts and fears as an musician plays an instrument. Silent and still for a moment, she let the voice wash over her mind before slamming shield that she had built up around her, feeling the swift pain that her action caused him she wanted to smile, but found that she still felt a stab of guilt for adding on to the mans suffering. Sighing, she strengthened her shields, fortifying them against what she knew would be an onslaught of vengeance. Her mind free of the outside influence, Lyra opened her eyes and blinked back tears. A fact that only made her more frustrated, as she well knew that crying would fix nothing, nor would it help her to know her own thoughts. Which was what she wanted, to evaluate everything inside of her mind for a few moments without any outside influence. Unfortunately, upon doing so, she found herself to still be indecisive as to whether she should stay or go. She trusted Lucid...more that she had ever trusted anyone, but she had also had the beginnings of feelings for him that she knew she wasn't ready for. Not to mention she didn't think she'd be able to explain them to anyone, as she could barely sort them out herself...she only wanted no one here to be hurt, especially Lucid who had done so much for her, and it seemed that all she had done was bring more problems than any one person should have to bear to his doorstep. It felt wrong, and vastly unfair, though she knew life often was. Sighing, she swiped a hand at the few tears that trickled past and allowed her eyes to drift closed once more. Lost for the moment, in her own mind.
