Maria pet Kearia as the kitten ceased her dancing. "So what were you doing up here, anyways? I've come up this way a few times this week, and usually nobody's around here."

Kuro looked to Maria as she wanted to know why he was there. He pointed to the stack of musty old books, sighing a little. It reminded him of his homework. "H-Homework." he muttered, sitting on the edge of the table, glancing at the stack of books. Man, he didn't want to work on that paper.

Maria peered at the titles of the books and smiled. "Oh, Ancient Runes are absolutely fascinating. I visited the first known founding of runes once with my mother. Their translations into other languages are so amazing, especially when you think of the languages that weren't discovered back then."

Kuro listened to her and thought for a moment. He tucked his flute back into his jacket and grabbed a book. He then looked to Maria nervously. "C-Could you.... um.... H-Help me?"

Kuro went into explaining where he needed help. Though the boy was bright, the runes just confused him to no end. He couldn't quite grasp the concept. And the subject he had to write about was one of the less written about subjects, and he had to write it in ancient runes! He doubted he could even do this paper...

Maria nodded slowly. "Well, let's start with an inventory of what you do know. What languages do you feel fluent enough in that you could write a paper easily in them?"

Kuro looked through the book in his hands as Maria asked him what he knew. The young prince began to explain the languages he knew. He knew quite a few of them, but he was still so confused on how to actually use them. And he had to describe on how the first runes even came into use. Most of his books didn't even go that far back.

Maria bit her lip and looked over the books he had again. "I know what book you need," she said, more to herself. She quickly disappeared into the books again, but instead of going to the Ancient Runes section, she headed to the Old Magic section. "Here," she said when she came back. "This book has anything you could need to know about the original Runes."

Kuro watched as she went off. He waited until she returned, surprised to find she found the book he needed. He thanked her gratefully as he began to work on his paper. But he often asked her for help as he worked. And soon, after a few hours of mind-dulling research, he finally finished. The smiled softly and thanked her before gathering up his papers and starting to leave.

Maria was glad that she'd helped him. Ancient Runes came easy to her, since she'd been forced to know so many languages in order to move from place to place. When he started to leave, Maria scooped up a now sleeping Kearia and smiled at him. "Hope you get a good grade."

Kuro glanced back at her and smiled, nodding his thanks before he headed off to his class. The prince actually had that class next, so she had helped him finish in the nick of time! As soon as he was out of the class, he decided to go and gt something to eat to celebrate a hopefully good grade.

Maria had spent the rest of the afternoon in the old library, reading books that she'd pick at complete random. First she read a short novella about a set of elves who traversed the plains of a distant land and discovered the first human life. Then she flipped through a book on the trolls of the North Murcean mountains. She had read at least fifteen books by the end of it, and decided it was time to head out. Plus, Kearia was starting to get bored.

Kuro got himself some noodles and sat down outside to eat it. He was rather hungry now and he saw fit to have the rest of the day off. Besides, Uncle Demetri wouldn't miss him, right?

Maria carried Kearia carefully as she snuck around the back halls and corners of the castle, avoiding contact with anybody she didn't know. Since the students were all still technically in their school day, they were rushing to get to classes. Soon, the halls were deserted and she made it outside, letting the kitten loose to stretch her legs.
