xxx→→x Wait. She was going to listen? Something in the back of Cabbage's head was wrought with disbelief. The thought disappeared into nothing as a loud sound momentarily distracted Cabbage, scattering his thoughts. He tilted his head, glancing momentarily at Leah, then Rowan, then back to Gisa.

"I was just wondering," Cabbage began slowly. "You guys seem kind of nervous! Wouldn't have been a better idea to stretch your limits until people were really dying from the poison instead of this? If you're in such a rush to give the antidote over, why don't you just do it instead of threatening people?"

Elvira placed a hand gently on Asha's arm, gripping it slightly as they stood on their tippytoes. They reached for her cheek, and grabbing quite a bit of it, pressed it hard between her index and thumb. "I'm assuming that means yes."

The Headmaster, with no easy way to get down, was more or less stranded atop the Oak, watching in horror as his students fought for their lives. Up here, there wasn't a lot he could do - though he had more freedom now that the terrorist that had been up here fell to the ground.

But what could he do now? Soulstone had no easy way down - nowhere near enough magic for a Divinity, not even enough for a Soften. He was trapped up in the broken branches of Merlin, and his staff, down below, was powerless to help the students. There had to be something, anything, he could do...

Please, he prayed, sending his thoughts to the Oak underneath him. Please. Do something.

There was silence. A long silence. And then...

      I cannot do anything.

The Headmaster felt his stomach drop into his boots, but then he spoke again.

      But they can.

The Headmaster felt something distinctly shift underneath him, and the next moment a wellspring of power burst forth from the Oak and spread through the clearing, like a strong breeze. The Headmaster nearly lost his footing, but miraculously did not fall.

When the wind died down, the Headmaster registered a faint buzzing at the base of his skull and a pale gold glow fading at the corners of his vision. And something... fresh. Not a lot, but enough for one good spell or perhaps two average ones.

"Magic," he whispered incredulously, and then louder, so the students below could hear, "MAGIC!"

(STUDENT WIDE BUFF ACTIVATED! All students now have, as the Headmaster has noted, enough magic power for two regular spells or one powerful one. Spells that consume magical power over time vary in their length - a Divinity won't last more than half a minute since that consumes a LOT of magical power, for example, but Ghost might last a little longer if you're only pushing one of the aspects (invisibility or intangibility) at a time. Element wielding depends on how efficient you are with that element, etc. Judge wisely.

Also, yes, this applies to students only. Sorry Loren and Marianne.

      One down. Five(?) to go.)

There was a scary moment where Ziza couldn't breathe, and then she could and Acwel was down. Moments later, a loud buzzing assaulted her ears as the sphere around them began to break down.

Broken. Broken...? OH GODS TY. Ziza straightened with a start and crawled over to her friend. He looked bad... really bad... s**t, what was she supposed to do in this situation? The obvious answer was get Ty somewhere out of harm's way and do some first aid. She needed shelter... shelter like the main building. And she needed a shield that wouldn't sputter out until she wanted it to, even if it meant increasing the burden on her body.

...Ziza sighed. She hated resorting to this.

The Janus put her thumb just underneath her snake's head and pulled backwards. The jaw slid back, revealing a pair of fangs that popped out without the jaw in their way. Without hesitation, Ziza yanked off her left glove and slashed open her palm. Hissing in pain, she dropped the snake, dipped a finger in the blood, and began to write on her arm.

"Time out's right," she muttered. "I'm taking you to the main building. Cammy!" she shouted, glancing over her shoulder to see if her girlfriend was still in shouting distance. "C'mere, I need your help!" And I need to get you out of danger too. Two birds with one stone amirite? Haha gods above this is going to ******** suck.

Oh great, now Amanda was stuck with a couple of lovebirds and Fin. They were seriously starting to wish one of the terrorists would kill them.

"Yyyyou can't stop me," Amanda replied, not that she actually expected Asha to pay her any attention now that Elvira had appeared. "It wouldn't be sacrificing myself anyway." Just cleaning up what shouldn't be here, they thought, but wisely decided not to say aloud. Sacrificing myself would mean giving up my own life to save someone else's. Absently, Amanda wondered where Bambi was. They hoped she wouldn't be stupid and sacrifice herself, but then again that was kind of in her personality.

Jeez, where were the rest of their friends? Amanda couldn't spot Adriene anywhere, but they could see Gwen staying away from the crowds. If the girl hadn't approached them by now, well, Amanda wasn't going to call out of her.

What did that mean? Bambi squinted at Michael's show of sympathy, her own body language revealing nothing but reserved distrust. Why couldn't he get on with his life without taint magic? Didn't people choose to be in the Blood Pact?

"I think it also makes a difference that they weren't hit by the mist." Bambi pointed out, trying to ignore all the loud sounds going on around her. She didn't pay the yelling any mind until Michael mentioned it, and then it was impossible not to twist her body around a little to watch Tyme fall off the tree.

...Some villains. Bambi gave an unimpressed huff through her nose.

"There's a few," Bambi responded, mind reeling. Here she was, talking to a murderer. God. Was she too used to being around An? Michael reminded her a little bit of them. Only a little, though. Wait, had the sphere of influence just broken? Huh. Not like it did Bambi any good, seeing as she was stuck in one spot by this damn psycho. "Um...including one of my friends, yes. It's sort of like...not eating. For a long--"

The headmaster's familiar voice caught Bambi off guard, and a hand flew up to the strap slung around her shoulder on reflex. A wind blew through the courtyard and Bambi felt her fatigue disappear in an instant. She could feel...magic coursing through her. Her whole body went stiff, and Bambi stared at Michael, waiting for him to make the first move.

Kesi Naifeh
                  "Talk" Walk Think

Kesi had been quietly standing, blanket around his shoulder, shaking softly as he scanned the crowd for his friends. When the chaos had started, he'd been edging towards anyone he could, with the idea being that there was safety in numbers. That kind of flew out the window, though, when End looked like a ghost of himself, the blind elf collapsed in a pool of blood, and Muna had fallen over behind him.

Not only that, but he could see the half-elf fall from the top of the Oak, Ty and Ziza looking quite weak, and... Cabbage and Rowan talking to the woman who seemed to be the leader.

Kesi DEFINITELY wasn't going to see himself anywhere around her, so he started shuffling towards Potato once he spotted them. "Uhm... Potato? And Whit. I-I'm sorry that I did not find you sooner."

It was then that Kesi heard the Headmaster's voice, and felt magic coursing through him once more. He jerked his head up, and he understood what was happening. He kept a close eye on the locations of all of the Blood Pact members around the students, getting ready to protect Potato if any of them came close.

Well, that had worked better than expected. Ian was impressed with Icarus's piloting skills; making BB move like that and pulling off those maneuvers without the eyepiece was no small task. "Right, okay," he muttered, watching the sphere break down. "We should probably find a way to get anyone that can't defend themselves out of here." That would get them out of harm's way and it'd be less to worry about. "Then we should--"

The wave of magic washed over Ian like a refreshing shower, and he felt his strength surge a little. Ian flexed his hand; there wasn't a lot, but it was better than the hollow emptiness he'd been dealing with for the last couple weeks. He glanced around at the remaining terrorists; one was down, there were four left, and one had disappeared...

He jerked a thumb in the Pacts' general direction. "Deal with them, maybe?"

Rowan stayed quiet and let Cabbage do the talking, but he watched what was going on around them with a hand on the hilt of his dagger. Could never be too careful with these terrorist types, after all.

Several things happened in succession. Someone fell off the Oak. The sphere around them shattered. Merlin farted. Rowan felt a little power creep back into him, but not much. And he didn't really know what he'd do with it anyways. He didn't see Whit or Potato, so he assumed they were alright, but...

Rowan's grip on the dagger tightened. He had a really bad feeling.

                                  xxx---

Whit stiffened as the wave of magic washed over him. Finally. After weeks of running on fumes of fumes, at least the underlying fatigue had vanished and his confidence in protecting Potato went up. "I've no clue what they're doing," he responded, "but the young master hasn't called for me, so I suppose they're alright." Maybe. Probably. Maybe he should turn around to check on them.

Whit's indecision was interrupted by the arrival of Kesi, which was... well, unexpected. He gave the tall elf a short wave in greeting. "It's a relief to see you aren't injured," he assured, "which is all we can really hope for in this situation. Have you seen Egg? She's the only one I've been unable to track down."

Is Muna's solution to EVERYTHING to stab s**t? Well, never mind. It worked and Muna wasn't dead (hopefully) and it didn't look like anyone else was either. Plus, the sphere was down, which meant they could maybe make a run for it, though Shanta was pretty sure they'd get gunned down if they tried.

The wave of magic was incredibly welcome, though, and Shanta lifted off of Violet as she activated her feather. Thank god it didn't take a lot to power the damn thing, but Shanta was definitely switching to Shashi as soon as she was able. For now...

"Don't ******** die," she told Violet, and then flew over to End and Muna. A quick glance at Ziza and Ty was enough to tell her it looked like Ziza had a plan of her own, so Shanta could focus on her friends. She checked Muna's pulse to assure herself he was alive, and then scooped him up. She didn't need a Diag to know it was probably magical exhaustion. Then she glanced at End. He was another whole mess, one that she'd check on once they were in the clear. "Get on my back," she ordered, lowering herself so End could climb aboard. "Don't waste your breath with apologies for now. Are you alright?"

As she spoke Shanta was already running a plan through her head. I need to stop the bleeding with a tourniquet, but I don't have any bandages handy... maybe I can rip up my coat... s**t, that isn't even accounting for the Sol and Luna lost, I don't know how the hell to fix that... maybe the terrorists have some extra Luna they'd be 'willing' to part with...?

Michael's smile changed ever so slightly. "A friend, huh?"

          Jackpot.

Michael's gaze left Bambi for a few seconds, wandering around the clearing to spot anyone that looked like they were having an exceptionally tough time. The Headmaster's cry registered, as did a breeze (though he felt nothing), but he didn't really see how this made a difference. They were still stronger regardless.

Michael's gaze landed on someone, just for a second, and then he returned his attention to Bambi. There was a girl that practically looked like she was about to fall asleep, with a few other kids nearby. Michael actually had no idea if she was Bambi's friend or not, but it didn't really matter either way, and her reaction in the next, oh, five seconds would tell him for sure.

"Aww, that sounds pretty awful," he said gently. "I don't know how you manage. Your friend sounds like they're in pretty rough shape. That her over there?" Without waiting for an answer, Michael lifted his gun and aimed at Amanda. "How about I put her out of her misery?" He cocked his head. "Aren't I such a nice person?"

          Michael pulled the trigger.

Well, that sure ******** backfired. Tyme pulled themselves up in time to see some other a*****e destroy a quartz, and one of the spheres broke down. Oh give me a BREAK.

Yeah, this wasn't happening. Tyme tucked the other quartz into their belt pouch and drew their knife. Whoever this was, they were unwelcome, would get in the way, and... not... paying them any attention. Whatever, Tyme wasn't going to waste an easy target.

Tyme concentrated, and the mist rolled in, thickening until it obscured the vision of anyone unfortunate enough to get caught up in it. Sucks to be you, they thought, dashing forward to where Loren was standing and slashing their knife.

Ooh, a Tar to the hands. Hairdresser wasn't bad. Leah grinned. She was charging? Idiot. Hadn't she heard about what happened to the Headmaster?

First things first, Leah concentrated on her hand, and it erupted in black flame, burning off the Tar. Second things second, she made what looked like a simple gesture, traced a sigil, and the air began to glow. That was the thing - Leah didn't waste time on fancy magic circles when it came to sigils. A few gestures here and there, and it was done.

          Flash!

"Idiot," Leah giggled as she watched Marianne charge towards a very sharp sword.

Gisa opened her mouth to interrupt, but was rudely interrupted by the sound of their plan falling apart at the seams.

First Acwel fell, then Tyme fell then the sphere fell, and now the brats had magic. Great. ******** great. This was going almost as smoothly as that one job in Boston. Still, Gisa still had Tyme, Michael, and her trump card, Leah. (Thor was god knows where, but she knew from experience not to count on him in combat. b*****d was more likely to hide out in a pub than fight alongside his team.)

On top of all that, this kid had seen through them in an instant. Gisa held her composure, though. No sense in losing it. Yet. "There's no rush to hand out the antidote, we simply got impatient," she said smoothly, lying through her teeth. "Even if it were true, we wouldn't go to all this trouble just to hand it over. We wouldn't get anything in return, would we?"
