S'kinda' what I figured, but based more on the concept of zombies not being able to consciously register the gaze, therefore making them immune... or something like that?

yeah pretty much, I'm not even sure what powers zombies anyways and what kind of sensory capabilities they'd have, plus most of the time it looks like their eyes are looking in two different directions.
[edit] anyway I've set the cockatrice loose in the city, we'll see how they do, whoever's controlling the zombies will have to give me a response whenever.

I thought Cockatrice were also "stone eyebeams" like Basilisks.

Read that last sentence. And then understand that I have an armful of Flesh Golems, not zombies, which do not have a constitution score and are thusly not affected in any way by your large chickens.
