((Well it's similar to the old one - only when he casts a spell to separate his souls, well to hide his good side, he nearly kills himself, and the Dragon God Niscus offers him a choice, to either die or she'd give him what he wants, and in return she will empower him (a bit) and kinda be his pawn. Not really worked it all out yet.))
He felt nothing negative happening from the food, and his hunger was getting the better of his restraint so he caved and began to eat. As he did so, he contemplated her question. His standard answer was at the tip of his tongue - birth defect. Though for some reason he wanted to tell her something closer to the truth, though he was unsure why. Probably something to do with the alcohol. "Magical error... a spell backfired when I was younger." He said quietly, pouring himself another drink. He glanced at her as he did so, trying to keep his expression in check as she revelaed more of herself as she cleaned her skin, though the blood was oddly enchanting...
Larin sat up straighter in his seat. A spell? He had always wondered what had happened to his eyes. One day they had been normal, the net they had changed. They had explained it waay with a blood vessel bursting or some s**t, hence the red colour, though he had never bought it. He must know more! He hoped that the woman he was with would draw it out of him!
((Sorry if any spellingmistakes, my quick reply went blank so I've not been able to see what I've been typing for a while now ))
Edit: WOW only a couple! I couldn't see what I was typing from alcohol. I'm oddly proud xD

Svana See signature for reference Svana watched him eat, sipping her vodka leisurely and extending her long legs out in front of her, glancing at his odd eyes as he explained them. "Magic..." she mused curiously. "A spell you did or a spell someone else did? Where does your magic come from?" she asked. She noted his eyes as they studied her, watching her progress as she cleaned the blood off of herself. There was a particular gleam to them as he studied her. Elves were not innate in magic except for their ability to extend their lifespans. She had always been curious about the humans and changelings capable of performing spells, although she only had rumors and stories to go off of since her banishment to the swamp. Someday, she hoped to learn more.

He forced himself to focus on chewing his food, dragging his eyes away from the length of her legs. He washed it down with a bit more vodka, it didn't seem to burn as much anymore, he was finding that it was actually quite delicious.
"Uhm, a spell I did to myself. I can't really remember what happened, but afterwards I had heterochromia. It was the second spell that backfired where I actually got the redness, it was just amber before that..." He put his hand to his mouth, confused. He had never told this to anyone before, other than Danroc. What on earth was he doing? He shrugged, why stop now?
"You need magical energy to cast a spell, that energy comes from nature - the sun, fire, water, what ever. Depends on what you want to do where you draw it from, though you can use your own energy, but that energy is not free and you have to pay the price some how." He gestured to the shock of blue in his fringe, which he could not get rid of not matter what he did.
Larin scowled at his talk of magic, ever resentful at his own incapability of using magic. He spat on the floor, dirty magic users. They should go to hell, their Dragon god Niscus with them!

Svana See signature for reference Svana listened with interest about his magic, and then eyed the blue in his hair. "That doesn't seem like such a terrible price," she commented, reaching out and swatting at the blue fringe, wondering if he would let her enter his personal space. Svana liked to push her boundaries, always curious to see how far people would let her get. Maybe the blue meant something in his world or culture. Maybe it simply garnered attention he did not want, or marked him as her blackened veins marked her. As for it being a price, she couldn't see it as being worse than the price she was forced to pay for her magic. She required the death of another to extend her own life. She poured them each more liberal amounts of vodka, tipping off Jet's glass as well. ((I assume she's been listening, PMS?))

Jet Devereux Jet sat back and listened quietly as the elf queen and the new boy talked about magic. She shivered, rubbing her thumb in circles against her thigh. Magic was the last thing she wanted to think about right now, partly because she was afraid that it was what had landed her family in such a mess; there might not have been such mistrust of her father if Jet could summon the Wind like the rest of her family. She sighed. "The price you pay is often greater than the rewards you reap," she said softly, speaking for the first time since Kai's arrival. "I'm Jet, by the way." This she said to Svana, as well, realising that she had never introduced herself. "Jet Devereux." She resisted the urge to bob her head or bow to Svana, reigning in any change in her demeanour. If there was one thing she had learned over the years, it was that royalty meant nothing in terms of character, and Jet didn't care any more. She smiled and downed her drink in one. ((That she has! : D))

((I forgot to mention, the blue hair is unnaturally cold, so she may notice that?))
Kai feigned disinterest as she reached for the blue in his fringe, more interested in her response at it's odd temperature than anything.
"Maybe that wasn't such a terrible price, this was slightly worse." He pulled his shirt open at the top and moved the pendant that lay there, a dragon stone swirling with various hues of green, with small tendrils of red weaving through it, showing the burn on his skin beneath it. He frowned at the colours in the pendant, but pushed it out of his mind for now as he drank some more vodka.
He tipped his head to Jet and smiled. He had been so distracted by Svana he had barely paid her much heed.
"The price you can pay can definitely be greater than the rewards. These happened when I was merely using magic to bring some memories back, if I'd tried something more advanced, it may have caused my heart to stop, my blood to boil, any number of things..." He was rambling. He had to force himself to concentrate on his food again.
Larin eyed the threesome warily, he was learning much about Kai's past, more than he had ever hoped to know, and was desperately trying to figure out how to use it against him. He fingered the sphere in his pocket, wondering if now would be the time to use it. As much as he despised magic users, he was prone to buying magic infused stones to his own ends... this could shut Arkai up for good.

Svana See signature for reference The lock of hair her fingers swiped through was disturbingly chill. She cocked her head, grasping the forelock momentarily before releasing it and retracting her hand, staring down at her palm. That was certainly unusual. She eyed the burn scar on his chest, pressing her lips together. "So doing magic alters your body? How unusual. I suppose, in a way, mine does too. Or, perhaps, keeps it from altering," she mused, scratching her neck beneath her ear. Her fingernails came away gummed with blood. She must have missed a spot. She frowned in distaste, cleaning her fingers on the cloth she used before. "I'm Svana, by the way," she added, after Jet introduced herself.

Jet Devereux "Magic does that where I come from, too," Jet said. "Alters your body, I mean. But not like that." She gestured to Kai's blue hair and shrugged. "I don't... I mean, I can't show you because I don't... Anyway, when my sister - and the rest of my family, too I guess - well, when she conjures the Wind her hand goes red. Like, it stains." Jet shrugged again. "I have heard stories about the stain spreading, when people use magic too much. When they do not show the restraint that is expected of nobility and they use it too much, and people don't like that..." Jet was aware that she wasn't explaining herself very well but she didn't know how else to say it. People hated being too red, but they also hated not having the Mark, too: so, what did that say about her people?

Kai frowned as they both talked about alternative magic. "Well that's certainly interesting... how does it stop you from altering?" He asked Svana first, smiling at her introduction.
"I'm Kai." He added. "The magic I'm aquainted with is different, it's more that these things happen as a payment for the magic, a toll. Normally people use a store of energy, but if you draw from yourself, you have to pay for it. I think that it's meant to prevent serious magic being done... I'm not sure though." He took another drink of vodka, it was like drinking water at this point. "Never heard of the magic you two have mentioned though! I'd be intrigued to hear more!" His voice was raising the more he drank.

Rosselyn Cain Rosse inclined her head as Baldur rose, dragging the kid with him. "Perhaps someday, we'll meet again." She said kindly. Once the pair of them had gone, she shifted her chair around a bit so she could examine the room at large. She hadn't really taken the opportunity to see just how bizarre the inhabitants were, having gotten caught up in conversation with the elf. Most of the people in the cafe were keeping to themselves, except for a group of three a few tables away, who seemed engaged in a friendly discussion. The collection seemed quite odd. The man, who was partially distracted by his food, had heterochromatic eyes and blue tipped hair. Of the two women, the one that caught Rosselyn's attention was to one who resembled Baldur. Hadn't Vald said that he was the last of his kind? Rosse felt a little disappointed that Baldur hadn't noticed, but it was too late to change that now. Rosselyn allowed her eyes to pass away from the group, examining the other patrons. She frowned slightly and tilted her head to the side as something odd caught her eye. Another man, a few tables away was watching the trio with a strange intensity, his focus largely on the man with dual colored eyes. She didn't like the look the stranger had, and decided to... Interfere. She rose from her seat on the pretense of acquiring something from the bar, but stopped at the only open seat a the table, effectively blocking the man with heterochromia from view with her body. "I'm sorry to interrupt, but is this seat taken?" She asked pleasantly.

Svana See signature for reference That was unusual. Svana didn't know enough about magic to tell whether this would be normal for her world or not. She was curious about the hand-staining that Jet mentioned. "You don't do magic?" she asked. "Because I imagine that would be useful in getting people to do what you want them to." She touched back on their earlier conversation. To Kai, she said, "You were curious about my veins. They're a mark of age. The more black you have on you, the older you are." She let him be the judge whether he wanted to know how old she was or not. "I have to make a sacrifice to acquire my lifespan." She debated telling them what her price was for her lifespan, but there was a reason her people had been eradicated. She swiped the glass away from Kai and put the bottle of Vodka out of his reach. She had the feeling that he didn't know what his limits were. She smiled over at the women who approached, gesturing. "Not at all. Have a seat. Vodka?" she offered.

Kai listened intently, and his eyes scoured her body as she mentioned the inky darkness entwining her. He pondered for a brief moment what her age could be, and what sacrifice could be so terrible that she uttered it in that tone of voice, however those thoughts tumbled away as she removed his drink, drawing a protestation from his lips. He was distracted yet again before his words could formulate, by a woman asking to join them. Svana replied before he had a chance, and he shook his head, rubbing his eyes. Was this the vodka's doing? Why would people want to make themselves dull witted like this?!
Larin almost slammed his fist into the table with frustration as the woman blocked his sight of Arkai. He cursed under his breath, well he would just have to act sooner. He swiftly rose to his feet, striding to the edge of the bar, which gave him an almost clear view of Arkai. He seemed very much in his cups by this point, and still hadn't recognised him. Maybe he didn't know who he was? Larin smirked, Arkai was making this easy for him!

Rosselyn Cain
Rosselyn shook her head at the offered alcohol as she took the seat across from Kai. Before they could do much more than welcome her, she spoke in a very soft voice, looking at Kai. "You're being watched." She told them seriously. "White hair, lots of armor. Unfavorable look on his face."

Jet Devereux Jet shook her head, fighting the urge to spit at Svana's question. It had taken a long time for her to get used to her status, even among her family. She was the only one, she knew, who could not summon the strength to use magic - and she did not know why. Once, when she was small, her father had tried to explain to her why she was different, but "Because you are special" was not the answer she had hoped for. And, you know, it was complete bullshit. Jet shook her head again. "No," she said. "I don't use magic. But it's not a choice. I am, unlike the rest of my family - the rest of the upper class, actually - born without the ability to conjure. And it's not for lack of trying, I assure you." She flexed her hands and stared down at the stark, white skin. Jet turned at Rosse's comment about their being watched, trying to look without seeming nosy. She did not like the look of the man in the corner, and her lip raised in a kind of warning before she could stop it. "I don't like the look of him."((Sorry for the delay. Had a resignation to write - and get talked out of. Sort of. D: ))
