The earl assisted the duchess out of her carriage, raising an eyebrow as he noticed that the younger couple did not do the same. "I wonder what is taking so long." He took the duchess by the hand and led her to the carriage, looking into the glass windows. "Oh my..."

"I do believe they are really and truly asleep," murmered the Duchess, elated at the thought of great-grandchildren. "Shall we leave them, or awaken them?"

Terryn answered the duchess's question by yawning and mumbling to herself, blinking a little as she rubbed her eyes and finally woke up. She didn't notice the others outside and instead looked up to Marcus with a small smile, her mind not toally with her yet. She placed her hand on his cheek and stroked it gently. "I think we're here." Somehow in the midst of her sleeping and not fully returning to consciousness, she had not remembered the plan.

Marcus, naturally, assumed he was still dreaming and smiled at her touch. He began to straighten, and moved his gaze to the window, where he was horrified to find his grandmother and the Earl peering at them intently. No, he was most certainly awake. Deciding not to dwell on Terryn's earlier behavior (there would be plenty of time for that later), he reached up to his cheek to softly hold onto Terryn's hand. "They're watching," he said, with an affectionate smile.

"Watching?" Terryn glanced out the window casually, trying her best not to act as though she noticed her father's half stunned look from outside. "Oh..." Terryn grinned. "What do we do now?"

"Well. We could go back to sleep." Then he frowned. "Or, perhaps, it would be better if we pretended to spot them and were abashed." But, no, his grandmother would never believe him if he was anything but his usual arrogant self. "Or not abashed, precisely, but you know what I'm trying to say."

"Indeed." Terryn thought, but quickly and with a smile still on her face to convey that they were having an organic, flowing conversation. She inched closer to Marcus, making sure to keep eye contact with him. "Well, we could-they left."
And indeed they had. The earl had grabbed Marcus's grandmother by the hand and was pulling her into the manor. "We can not let them see us, we must act completely surprised and be waiting for them."

"How very lucky for us," answered Marcus, relaxing at once, though he did not move away from Terryn. "Would you like to, or shall we exit the coach?"
The Duchess smiled as she was dragged into the manor. Oh, she hoped their first child would be a boy, with Marcus's nose and jawline, and Terryn's bright eyes and hair.

Terryn shrugged, not exactly sure what she wanted to do. "It may be best to go inside. We do not wnat them to think we are already making them grandchildren...or I suppose great-grandchildren in the duchess's case." She yawned and picked up the rose that was still laying in her lap. "I shall have to get some water for this."
"Come, make haste." The earl had the mischeivous sparkle of a young boy in his eyes, excited by this new development. He ushered her into the sitting room and took seat in his usual comfortable chair, trying to look as relaxed as possible, though he couldn't wipe the smile from his face. "We must remain inconspicuous."

The way she said that made Marcus hesitate for a moment. Already making them grandchildren...didn't that imply that eventually, they would be making grandchildren? Or great-grandchildren. He lifted his arm from Terryn's shoulder. "After you."
The Duchess sank into a chair herself. "Nice weather this time of year."

Terryn pushed herself up and climbed out of the carriage, the cool air of the night brushing against her and making her shiver a little from the juxtaposition to the warmth of the carriage. She held the rose in front of her and waited for Marcus to climb out behidn her so they could enter together.
It took a moment for the earl to catch on to the duchess's motives for such light conversation, but he nodded when he did. "Indeed. The clouds yesterday looked like there might be rain, but luckily they passed."

Marcus followed, and the two of them headed towards the manor in silence.
"Thank goodness. My flowers cannot possibly handle any more rain than they have already," answered the Duchess pleasantly, flicking her eyes towards the door, where the young couple were beginning to enter.

"Indeed. Though they do help-" The earl caught sight of his daughter walking in, looking strangely relaxed and submissive. "Ah, you have returned. Did you have a nice ride home?"
Terryn simply nodded, opting for the shy, quiet appearance that was sure to throw her father off guard. "We are going to get a vase and water for this flower." She looked to Marcus with a smile and walked off towards the kitchens, where they had a few vases for when the tables needed floral centerpieces.

The Duchess smiled at both of them as they left, and gave the Earl a placid smile. "Go on, dear. You were saying?"
"Well done," murmered Marcus, as he followed Terryn into the kitchen.

The earl simply shrugged, watching them with a dropped jaw as they left. "That...that is something..."
Terryn nodded, a hint of a sly grin creeping onto her face. "I thought you might like that. Did you see the look on my father's face?" She nearly laughed at his dumbfounded expression as she grabbed a small glass vase and filled it with water from the bucket they had filled at the well.
