"Nothing bladed like this." He watched as Chris launched into his own attempts with the weapons. The purple haired boy seemed wary of the blades, as if he might not actually want to touch them, but once he'd tried out a few swings, it looked like he'd be able to pick up just fine. There was a strange misstep and a quick tense glance to Hwan that warned him not to tease. Alright, fair enough, these things were kind of scary if you didn't have experience with them. Which, well, not many of them had. Hwan had play-practiced using sticks for staffs with Jeong as children (and still did occasionally to this day) but that only really made him accustomed to lunging towards things rather than slicing much. Still, he was enjoying this, it felt great to learn something new.
"Chris... Reinhart right? Sorry about, uh, your family's business... Hope you guys are alright." Now he remembered, he'd seen the name in one of the newspapers on one of his visits to Trost. Something about the business changing hands. The details were kind of confusing and something seemed off about them but he'd spare the guy having to relive them and simply wish his family well. He'd always wanted to try riding one of the carriages but they'd been short money when he'd had the chance. Dammit!
The spectacled boy visibly paled at the mention of the Scouting Legion and Hwan wondered if he'd said something strange. A lot of people seemed to think he was making a foolish choice but Chris had so far been the only one to look at him as if he were crazy. Err, maybe he'd change the topic.
"The MP or Garrison, huh? Both good choices. Personally, I think the Garrison'd be more interesting." Not to mention, more achievable. The requirements to join the Military Police were way beyond Hwan's reach though this guy might have a chance at it, depending on his skills. Hwan continued his practice swings as they spoke, sometimes stopping to watch his partner's and check his form. Neither of them really knew if they had it exactly right but they'd follow Santos's orders to try and help each other.
"Try twisting your hips some. It helped me a little. So, I know this sounds weird but... do you like music?"

Hazel Snow warily made her way to the practice field, only to be brought to full attention by the booming voice of the frightening bald man. Now that they could avoid hitting trees, it was time for them to learn how to use their blades. Watching the bald man move with the blades was like watching liquid fire, beautiful but deadly. He flowed so smoothly into each different move, there was no hesitation, and he knew exactly what he was doing with the sharp weapon in his grip. The young woman was brought out of her observation when she heard a familiar name be her partner again and looked up to search for him in the crowd.
“Hello again.” She gave him a small tentative smile and then looked between his sharp blades and hers, the task before them seemed dangerous. Hazel wondered how many limbs were lost while in training and what happened to those cadets? “Basics. Okay.” She tried to remember the basic moves that the bald man had done, but she was too enthralled with his movements to remember them particularly well. Oh well, there was no time like the present to learn. The blond followed the young man to the tree line and started swinging at the poor stationary things. Was this revenge in a roundabout way? Having face planted into many of their brethren we now slash at that the sturdy green walls?
She felt that she was getting the hang of the movement of the slashing and she was happy that her muscles had yet to scream in protest, it was a sign that she was improving, even if it was as slow as molasses in the dead of winter. She had begun to notice that she was gaining muscle, she was still very light, but that made her quick and agile. The tree continued to be slashed when Jeong’s words drew her attention back to the present. “Yes, I believe so. But slashing at a tree is something entirely different than what needs to be done.”
At his question she looked up into the tree she had just been cutting into, “I was forced in a way. Illegally my stepfather signed me up for the Military and instead of fighting it I decided to give it a shot. If I did not do this then I would have been living in the streets, yes I could have lived with a kind doctor for a time, but his space barely had enough room for himself. So I made my decision and came here, now I am realizing I quite like this life style, although my body is constantly in pain, I am learning things about myself that I did not know before. Also, I would like to be a medic, help those who are injured and in order to do so, I am training hard.” She returned her gaze to him, “I know I do not seem like much, but I am trying to make myself stronger so I am not the weakest link in the chain.” Compared to her home in Trost, this compound almost seemed like heaven. “Why did you join, if you don’t mind my asking?”
Doutei It is funny that they are partners again :}

"Whoa that's quite a story!" Jeong looked to Hazel in surprise. It didn't sit well with him that she'd been forced in illegally but there wasn't anything he could do about it if she was enjoying herself here. Jeong had no qualms about breaking some rules and laws but just felt it was wrong for her stepfather to have made such a huge life decision for her. The girl appeared to be coping with it the best she could, convincing herself that it was better than where she would've ended up, but Jeong doubted that her kind doctor would've minded helping teach her and give her a place to sleep.
"Well, I'm glad you're starting to adjust to this place. It can be a bit overwhelming." Nodding to the blonde as she continued their exercises, Jeong felt relieved that she acknowledged her physical weakness. The twin had known better to outright comment on it first but now could address it better without coming across as a sexist jack a**. The girl needed to build up muscle quick if she was going to keep up with the training and graduate. It wouldn't need to be much, since she wanted to become a medic rather than a fighter, but enough to keep Santos off her a**.
"That's cool that you want to be a medic. Which branch do you go into for that?" The dark haired boy asked, unsure what division it fell under. Shakuntala had mentioned becoming a vet in the scouts, was it the same for doctors? He'd done some research about the military before allowing Hwan to sign the final papers but had focused mostly on what their tasks and duties would be when they went outside the wall.
"As for me, I joined to become a scout. See what's out there and all that." Turning back to the tree, Jeong completed one more round of slashes to confirm that his grip on the blades was working. His answer was half true, for it's what Hwan had joined to do. Plus Jeong was a bit curious what else the world had to offer. But the other half was really because he felt the need to protect his brother. That wasn't something he felt the need to share with Hazel, though, as they had only met twice. Keeping a calm smile on his face, the teen's poker face was flawless.
"So, ready to move to the next step? Come at me and I'll block. Let's keep it simple though, this is pretty dangerous." Stepping away from the tree, Jeong nodded to her and held up his blades, ready. This practice was kind of unnecessary, since they would be using their swords on titans and not other humans, but it seemed like the instructors expected them to try a little bit just for experience's sake. So here they'd go.
Thalea I figure we can move to the Maintenance part after this! Unless you want to do blades for one more round.

She could only nod her head; it did not seem quite as bad now as it did when she was first living through it. I guess the saying Time heals all wounds may be correct after all, Hazel thought to herself. “Yeah, there was quite a bit to get used to, tell the truth when I first came here I thought I would not last a week. But look at me now, beating up trees with a sword,” She gave him a smile and her eyes grew bright with excitement as she nodded her head vigorously at his words, “Helping people is the one thing that I am truly good at and I wish to make it my life’s work. I don’t know where I would go. I think the Scouts could probably use my skills the most, but the way I am, I would probably be more of a liability than an asset. The only medic the soldiers on the wall’s need is one to nurse their hang overs, so I guess the other option is working here at this training ground, although Dr. Gru is quite skilled and probably does not need another doctor stepping on his toes.” She knew that becoming a scout was suicide, but she felt that it would be the best place for her to utilize her skills.
At the thought of skills she looked again at the blades in her hands and began to practice the movements, but this time not hitting the poor tree that already had quite a few battle wounds. “Yeah, I can see that. Being a Scout will allow for so much freedom, to see the world outside of the walls. Does your brother want to be a scout too?” She only assumed it was his brother, since they looked exactly alike; she may not talk to people, but she did have a habit of watching them.
“Ready.” She took in a deep breath to actually be as ready as she said she would be. It was so nerve wracking, so many bad things could happen if one of them did not pay attention. She really did not want to have to get stitches or cause her partner to get them as well. On the exhale she attacked her partner, her blades whooshing through the air. And a loud clang as they made contact with his block, no blood, no wounds. With a sigh of relief she put down the blades. "Should we move on to the next task?"
Doutei Sounds good to me! Well should we have them finish the sparring before Maintenance or just have him attack and her block and call it a day? Look better? :}

Martino watched in awe at the impressive strikes and jabs of the muscular man. At first, he was filled with childish and a giddy desire to perform the same actions, and even pumped his fists up by his waist as his mouth cracked in awe. However, when he looked down to his own gangly arms, his enthusiasm died swept away with the tide.
Turning to his assigned partner, he flashed Amalia a welcoming smile. "Si, si," he said, nodding his arms in affirmation as he grabbed up a pair of blades and mimicked the swish and swoosh of the weapons as she was doing. However, doubt began to fill his gut and his arms dropped to his sides suddenly. "Am I doing this right?"

[Blades - Amalia]Lowering the twin blades, Amalia paused her sword work to look at Martino. "Like this." She resumed copying Santos' movements, but slower, so that her partner could keep up. NaomiNaomi No worries, no worries. :3

[Blades]Watching his instructor closely, Lip was fairly excited to learn how to properly use the blades they were given. His excitement died when her heard Santos mention the word 'partner.' Another partner activity? He groaned and dropped his shoulders a bit. He knew Alec couldn't be his partner since he had finished up this class already... But maybe he could be Chris's partner! He looked around to spot Chris with one of the twins he'd seen in his last class. Then realizing that names were being paired off... Larisa? Seriously? A girl..... He groaned again. As the girl approached him, he remained quiet... not wanting to bother with her at all. The first thing he noticed is that her nervousness. The second and most annoying he noticed was her mouth. Holy Walls would she shut up! There is nothing worse than rambling! He rolled his eyes, ready to shut her up when she stopped. Thanking his stars, he listened to her talk about working together. He sighed and moved closer to her when she wasn't swing the blade around. "You're doing it wrong... you hold the hilt like this... Your grip will be more sturdy this way and you will be less likely to drop it." He explained then kicking one of her feet back a bit then moving back. "Now try..." He grumbled quietly to himself... he couldn't believe how inexperienced most of these trainees were. He moved himself into position and looked at her partner, "Watch my footing.... and timing... I tend to miss steps.." he warned as he went for it. KitsuneAura hope this is okay... sorry no color

Qixel ehhh I guess it's okay to move on? I can't really think of what else to say. xD;; [Maintenance]After Zin and Yesenia had finished warming up and practicing blade techniques, Zin replaced her swords into their respective cartridges and headed for the work benches. 3DMG was an extremely complicated tool, and Zin paid close attention as the instructor went over how each piece operated and how to properly maintain them. After that, she began to go over each piece that was laid out on the table, taking note of how it was supposed to look and how it fit in with the rest.

Renekai Neither can I, haha. xD Yesenia, y u no pay attention?? [Maintenance - Yesenia]With nothing to distract her, thankfully, Yesenia actually paid attention this time. That said, she didn't actually get most of it. Steam poured out of her ears as she looked over the assorted pieces. Finally, she scratched madly at her head and cried out in frustration. "Agh, I don't get it! I dun get it at all!"

[Blades - Preacher Maria]Preacher stood silently, watching as everyone paired up. The blades seemed sharp. She shrugged. Wouldn't the dullest have been better for trainess? Sighing, she turned the blades over in her hands, feeling their weight, their length. For someone from the slums who had only helds knives, they felt unbalanced, wrong, as though she could thrust too quickly and topple forward. Wait... wasn't she supposed to have a partner? she muttered, lookign around. There, that had to be her. "You! Ain't ya supposed ta be my partner or some s**t? Grab some blades." Grumbling, she began to move through the forms, blades moving sleekly in front of her. It was almsot like a dance, she mused. Suddenly, she remembered Saga's silly face, and his loud voice and how much fun she'd had dancing. It had been a start.

Larisa startled, turning her head to look at Lip as he moved closer. Why had he come so close? Hadn't she just told him how worried she was about accidentally cutting him? "O-oh, I didn't realize, thank you." She awkwardly shifted her grip the way he'd shown and slid her foot back when he kicked at it, glancing hesitantly back at him as he moved away again to give her space. He must have been so disappointed to have been stuck with her as a partner, the way he kept grumbling and sighing. She'd warned him she didn't have any experience so he wouldn't expect too much, but it hadn't worked, she guessed.
Quietly frustrated with herself for not doing a better job from the start, she started slowly through the movements again before picking up a little more speed. It actually really was easier when she held the blades this way, and she felt steadier on her feet now. She opened her mouth to thank him again, but he was already shifting into position to begin on his own run through. She nodded instead, turning her full attention to watching how he moved.
"Oh! Wait, that move there!" The moment she'd seen the misstep, she'd been calling for his attention, but now that she had it she felt nervous again. He was the one who knew what he was doing, she'd probably misremembered, and then what would he think of her? She shifted her weight uneasily, but it was too late to take the interjection back. "When Santos did it, it was more like...this." She moved her feet carefully through the movement as she remembered it, then looked back up at him hopefully.

[Maintenance]Zin glanced over to Yesenia at her declaration. The instructor was busy helping other trainees, so she sidled closer to her partner and piped up, "Um... Here, I think I can show you again." Her friend Walt had been able to take the 3DMG training classes before her, and had talked about it endlessly, so she'd already picked up a thing or two before hearing Gazelle's instruction. That, on top of her obsession with 3DMG, had allowed her to catch on to the basics fairly quickly. "Here is the gas canister, which attaches here..." she continued, going over all the basic pieces and what each required as part of its regular upkeep.

[Maintenance - Yesenia]Yesenia listened intently to the blue haired girl's explanation - it was easier to follow than the instructor's at least. "How do ya understand this stuff so easily, pig tails?" It was a legitimate curiosity on Yesenia's part. Perhaps she could take inspiration from the answer.

"Sure, if you've had enough." He'd expected her to try it a couple times but it made sense why the medic was averse to attacking people. Lowering his blades, the twin made sure the way was clear before leading Hazel through the trainee practice grounds towards the set of benches by Gazelle. He was actually looking forward to this next part, getting to examine their gear more closely and learn what to look for when troubleshooting.
Maybe Hwan just had faulty equipment.
"I dunno, most scouts are either safe or dead. Not a lot of in-between injuries out there." Jeong rubbed his neck, continuing their conversation from earlier. There were a handful of cases where having a medic around would help but titans tended to either eat you or not. Still, if she could train up and become a competent fighter it wouldn't hurt to have someone with medical knowledge out on the field with them. It felt harsh to say it but in her current state, it really wasn't safe for her to go out beyond the walls. Nor was he sure she would get to save as many lives out there compared to the slums of Shiganshima or other towns with civilians. Jeong had more tact than to question her choice at the moment, though, since he didn't know her very well.
"Finally, we get to take them apart, huh?" Seating himself, Jeong pulled his 3DMG into his lap to examine it. Intricate pieces connected together with all kinds of fasteners and tools and it got him excited to play with. Testing the parts carefully, he watched how the machine worked and turned the mechanisms so he could see them from multiple angles if he felt uncertain of what he was looking at. Cleaning could come later, right now he was too engrossed to go grab the supplies.
Thalea I just kinda moved them over, if that's alright. If not, let me know and I'll edit.

[Maintenance]"Oh, uh..." Zin laughed modestly. "My friend, Walt, kinda went over this with me already 'cause he was able to get into the previous class. I really love 3D maneuver gear so I guess it just kinda stuck." She took apart the example gear that she'd just put together to show Yesenia. "I still don't know how to fix it if it breaks," she offered. "Regular maintenance is pretty easy, but it'd be really tough if you got a crack in your canister, for example... If your gas leaks out, then you'd be stranded." She shrugged. "But you can't really predict that, I guess. Your triggers could get jammed just as easily and then you wouldn't be able to move anyway."
