For starters, both are given to guys on Valentine's Day in Japan. Giri-choco is "obligatory chocolate", chocolate given to friends, associates, etc. because you're their friend or know them. Honmei-choco is chocolate given to lovers and people you like. So the question, re-defined, is
Chocolate from a person who loves/likes you but you don't love/like back, or friendly, we're-just-associated-to-one-another-that's-why-you're-getting-this chocolate from someone you feel romantically inclined towards?
