Belle nodded a bit at what Dontee said, the name Chaim registering as soon as he said it. She'd heard her parents toss the name around before, she had just forgotten it. That's alright, as long I meet him eventually. she said gently, finishing off her omelet. She had been eating pretty fast since she was starving. Still hungry, she stood up from the table and walked over to the sink, rinsing her plate off and washing it. She dried it off and stuck it back into the cabinet before finding a banana sitting on the counter. Smiling to herself, she picked it up and peeled the corners of the peel down as she walked back to the table. Sitting down again, she leaned back comfortably in her chair and took a bite, feeling very relaxed right now. Definitely more relaxed than she had been in a very long time.

Dontee watched Belle stand and put her plate in the cabinet after rinsing it off and then places it with a banana as he slowly ate the remains of his omelet. He stood as she came back to the table with a banana to place his omelet in the sink, turns on the water to rinse it off quickly, and then places the wet plate on a small drying rack before walking back to the table and sitting, not grabbing anything else to eat. He shrugs his shoulders. "So, did you expect the Defenders' H.Q. to be so nice?" He asks with a small smile, looking to Belle.

Belle glanced up at Dontee as he got up from the table at about the same time she sat down, going to rinse off his own plate. She took a bite of her banana happily, her stomach feeling much better now than it had some food in it. When he asked about what she expected the headquarters to look like, she finished chewing and swallowed her banana, grinning a bit. Well, I had pretty high expectations after all this searching, but the whole underground tunnel thing kind of threw me for a loop. I definitely didn't think it was going to be this extravagant on the way here, and this is far past how I'd imagined it would look as well. she said with a smile, taking another bite of her banana when she finished speaking. She felt like he was always the one asking her the questions, but right now, she didn't have much to ask. Maybe later on she would, but for now she was feeling very relaxed, and not like she needed to drill anyone with questions.

Dontee smiles with a nod. "Well, yes. It sort of has to be underground... you know, to avoid people from just so happening to discover it. Not very many cities are thought to be underground." He says before leaning back slightly. "... Right, so you well-rested?... because we still haven't got you a part of the defenders, officially, yet."

((Time to get my characters moving again.))

Karinda's eyes were glued to the city as she and Saiirin made their way along the ledge.

'Tis a place of magic, Karinda, the silver dragon thought as she followed behind Karinda.

"Aye, I can feel it too,” Karinda replied. “’Tis an ancient power. It nearly resembles what I felt during the Hyiala Oleray,” subconsciously, she reached up to finger the elegant marks adorning her face, “though the age here is far great--" Her foot hit the uneven ground where one of the large staircases began, making her trip.

With a surprised shout, she fell forward, colliding with a man as he passed by.

Chaim descended one of the three large staircases leading to his city below. As he walked, a few others passed him, greeting him with respect as they hurried on their way down. His mind wandered to Eve--the girl who disappeared. After returning to the main area of the cafe, he had found the girl missing, and the words of the cashier held no help.

His attention was torn from his thoughts as a shout reached his ears and a girl stumbled into him, knocking him off balance for a second. Quickly gaining his footing, he helped steady the girl.

“Are you alright?” he asked, concern shown in his eyes as he quickly took in the girl’s fusty appearance.

“Aye,” Karinda answered, taken aback by the aura seeping from the man. He felt as old as the city’s magic, if not older, yet looked to be no more than in his twenties. “I-I beg your forgiveness.” She bowed--an action she felt the man more than deserved.

”No begging needed,” Chaim said slowly, blinking in surprise. “Please, don’t bow. It’s rather unnecessary.” He watched as the girl straightened, her bright blue eyes meeting his. “You aren’t from here, are you? How did you find your way here?”

”Nay, good sir.” She shook her head once as Saiirin jumped onto the thick stair above the one upon which she and the man stood. “I was brought here by Lael, a Peacekeeper.”

”Well, then. If a Peacekeeper finds you worthy of being here, then I’d be honored if you would accompany me to the city.” He looked to the small dragon. “You and your friend, there. I’m sure Lael will be along soon enough.”

Karinda nodded and followed the man down the vast stairs.

((Sorry for the absence! This time I have good reason. sweatdrop My parents woke up one morning and decided my room needed some re-doing, so there was no computer or anything for a few days. I should be back now though.))

Killing an innocent, eh? Jarod though sarcastically. He acknowledged Bebinn but remained quiet and attentive. He knew she was right. Although he felt that he had seen more of the world than many others his age, he understood that there was much more to it than he or his mother had experienced.

Loki looked down at her lap and then at Jarod. "I used to be able to say that I've only ever killed for food. But when you're forced to choose between killing someone or letting them kill your child, it's not too difficult to choose." Her gaze returned to Bebinn. "I'm not proud of it. I don't like to do it. I avoid it as much as I can. But yes, I suppose I could say that if I have to, I will."

Jarod, who had never killed at all, sat and wondered how much difference there could be between killing to feed yourself, and killing for... for whatever other reasons people killed each other.

----------

Early the next morning Jarod sat in the hall, against the stretch of wall between the doors to Bebinn's room and his room. He wore his grown-up disguise from the previous night, and sat with his backpack between the wall and himself as a sort of cushion. His mother's lay in front of him.

The door to his room opened slightly and a furry face peeked carefully out at him. "Jarod, come back in. We don't know if she's ready yet."

"But we know she will be soon," he replied nonchalantly.

(( Sorry for my slowness at posting D: ))

Belle nodded and smiled at bit at Dontee's comment about the headquarters being underground, saying Ya, probably why it took me so long to find it. She grinned a bit than ate another bite of her banana, listening to what he said next. Swallowing, she nodded and took the last bite of her banana before standing up to throw the peel in the trashcan. Yea, I'm all rested up, so where are we headed to now? she said, turning back around from where she stood by the trashcan to face him again.

((It's fine.))

Dontee nods with a smile. ”Yep. So, it has its benefits with some disadvantages… but the disadvantages are little compared to the benefits.” He says before standing as well, stretching slightly. He thought for a moment before shrugging his shoulders. ”I think that I feel Chaim, our leader, nearby… perhaps if it is him, I’ll introduce you to him. If not, then we’ll head straight to the castle and see about getting you a part of the defenders from there.” He says before stepping to the door and turns to Belle to ask ”Ready?”

((Not a problem! I was having computer problems myself, but it seems to be resolved.))

Bebinn leaned back. She could tell that the woman in front of her was dead ((pun fully intended)) serious.
"Good," she smiled, a real smile,"we can travel together."
She gave no clue as to the reason for her question. In time, they will understand.

------------
Bebinn woke up the next morning later then was her habit. Hoping she hadn't kept her new traveling partners waiting, she prepared herself for the day quickly. Leaving her room, she saw the young man sitting near her door. "Well," she asked, "Shall we be off?"

“What’s your name?” Chaim asked as he and Karinda made their way down the stairs, their pace quick.

“I am Karinda Drathone. And might I inquire as to what you are called?” Karinda glanced to her side to check that Saiirin was following.

”I am called many things,” Chaim began, ”but here I’m known as Chaim.” His eyes focused on the gates--the second pair of three--and those guarding it as they conversed lazily.

Karinda, Saiirin thought to the girl, amazement coating her words, I hath heard of this man.

Catching sight of those approaching, the guards straightened and offered a bow.

In truth? Karinda answered, her attention shifting to the guards.

“Good day, Sir,” one of the guards said, straightening as Chaim and Karinda stopped before the gates. Casting his gaze through the metal bars blocking the way, he called, “Nelin i' maen!”

Recognizing the Elvin words, a smile passed Karinda's lips.

With the guard's command, the gates swung inward on silent hinges.

“Thank you, Valder,” Chaim said warmly as he walked through the gates, nodding to the second guard as he passed. “Forgive me for asking, Karinda,” he glanced to Saiirin, ”but I can’t help wondering. Is your dragon supposed to be glowing?”

Saiirin growled at the reminder of her condition as Karinda’s smile returned.

”She chose to feast upon a glowing moral within the chamber we found ourselves prior to arriving hence,” Karinda replied as she gazed about the wide street lined with old-fashioned streetlamps, the fires above their open tops dancing about freely, adding to the soft artificial light already illuminating the city.

”There’s a healer not far from here who’s wise in the ways of dragons. I’m sure she could whip up a tonic for your dragon in no time.” He paused.

”A tonic would be much appreciated,” Karinda said with a nod.

”You have an odd sort of speech,” Chaim observed, turning down a narrow brick road.

Karinda's face fell, her next words soft. "'Tis what occurs when one traverses neigh five-hundred years into the future.

Chaim stopped in front of a large wooden door embedded into the side of a long stone building, turning to look at her.

"You may not have traversed," he said slowly.

Before Karinda could ask for the reasoning and meaning behind his words, Chaim pulled open the door and gestured for her to enter.

((Forgot to quote you when I posted this, sorry.))

"I win," Jarod sang before standing up.

"Alright," Loki said in turn, "I'm on my way out." She remained hidden from view and shoved her backpack out the door.

"Off we shall be!" Jarod closed the door, lifted the bag and cheerily began to make his way towards the entrance of the inn so they could check out. There was a breakfast area available and he made sure to grab something before walking out.

Loki met them outside, already human and dressed. She took her backpack from Jarod and pulled it on as they all walked. "Do you have anything else you need to do before we begin our search? Maybe we can help." Loki was speaking to Bebinn. "We've already looked for what we wanted but didn't find anything."

Jarod was inspecting the muffin he had taken from the inn but still listening. "I want to go back to being a kid." He ripped the plastic package open.

"You should have done that before we really left."

"I know. Into the garbage receptacle you go..." he said to the wrapper, tossing it into a trash can as they passed it. "You know, I don't understand why humans make a package that's going to be tossed right away... out of a material that lasts forever. It's silly." He sniffed his food before taking the first bite. "You know, this disguise I'm wearing was an annoying college student. Can't remember where exactly I picked it up though. How are we going to find the Defenders anyway?" The sudden changes in topic were coming from the excited child inside. The rude way of expressing them was the irritating adult on the outside.

~Willow Reaper ~

The man could run no longer, his heart was beating so fast it threatened to rip from his chest, his lunged burn like raw flames, his feet and legs had grown numb and jelly like in consistency, but she was still right behind him, he could still hear those terrifying steeps above his own, still hear the hypnotic lullaby, smell the intoxicating perfume, the air was almost heavy with sexual tension masked only my his fear.
He should have known, that was all he kept thinking to himself, he should have known.

He had somehow managed to walk into the one bar in that drinking happy town that she was in, oh the rumours he had heard but never believed, the things people claimed to have seen, it had all revolved around this strangely, women, that blank expression and empty smile ridding more then he ever wanted to know. So what in high hell made him go and speak to her? A bet, yes a stupid, drunken, bet.

"Dear little night dreamer dreaming of day.
Wont you keep running,
afar and away." The almost soft yet strong voice sang out beautifully, every word pronounced perfectly, it seemed she, whoever she was, was very well spoken and most definitely not from around here.
"Run from the cold winters tempting embrace.
Lifting sweet sorrows from a gentle white face."
The voice was hauntingly beautiful, but it carried a hint of danger, just barely, but enough to let you know that the person signing it did not mean the words in the way the lullaby originally did.
He stumbled over a loose tree leg and managed to right himself just before falling head over heals over the next, she was getting closer, so much closer, it seemed no matter how fast he raced she managed to catch up with him with her calm walking pace, what the hell was she?

He had given up looking behind him, she was never there when he did, just the footsteps, those dreadfully loud footsteps which seemed to be keeping the beat of the song.
"Wrapping up warm in those sweet scented leaves."
The man had just clambered back onto his feet and was about to try running again when something cold and solid wrapped itself around his legs like an ice cold whip, and yanking him about a foot off of the ground, his shoulder length hair falling down over his eyes before he felt the same cold substance trap his arms and snake its way around the rest of his body, he had gone beyond frightened, above terrified, he had become so horrified that he had simply frozen, not even attempting to move, he hadn't seen what was holding him, and he did not particularly want to know.

"Till fading from light in a small summers breeze" this seemed to be the end as the singing stopped and a tall, slender women was suddenly stood in front of the poor man, a black leather bound book open in her left hand, a large scythe in the other, it was such a beautiful weapon one would have thought it was more suited to de-core then battle, the numerous gemstones and engravings along it and the overall dark and twisted design of it made it creepy whilst still being beautiful, clearly not from around here, not at all.
The women bent down ever so slightly, her six foot four frame coming just about eye to eye with the poor man, that same, empty smile on her face as she snapped the book shut and slid it into her pocket, "My my, you have made this far more bothersome than it needed to be, you are aware of that, are you not?" Standing straight again and stepping around him made it obvious this was a rhetorical question. "I asked such a simply question it hardly seems worth all the effort now, and I take it you still will not talk to me?" she had come back around to his front now, her spare hand caressing his cheek as she spoke, the uniform folding perfectly to match her movements, if there was one thing she was good at, it was being graceful.

The 'Uniform' from what the man could tell, was an adapted version of a classic Japanese school girl uniform in black, the blazer had been made into a tail-coat and the t-shirt replaced with a white shirt ending in white lace on the arms. Her long straight raven hair dropped almost to her knees and moved with her almost like liquid, effortless and enticingly beautiful. The shoes had been replaced by high heeled black, skin tight leather boots. numerous silver chains and accessories perfected the look.

Leaning against her scythe now, the women seemed to be looking the man up and down, a bored expression quickly replacing the smile, "Now will you simply tell me where in the world he is, and you may just get off with a light spanking" it should have been humorous, but she made it sound deadly serious.
"I-I-I..." he winced as something cold made its way up his trouser leg.
"Please refrain from stuttering, it is such an ugly thing to do" her patience was growing, she doubted this man really knew anything, but he had been her only lead, might as well try.
"Now I will give you to the count of four to tell me, at the very least which direction he is in, ready. 1" The man began to ramble almost nonchalant things about wanting to be let go and begging her to spare him, but his prayers fell on dead ears as the countdown continued "2" He felt that same cold vine like material twisting itself around his arms now "3" In his final desperation as he felt it creeping around his neck, he pointed to nearest town, in hopes that it would convince her to spare him.
"4" His limbs and head were ripped almost effortlessly from his body, blood spreading across the ground and leaking from the missing parts, it seemed his hopes were a failure.

Sheathing her scythe and getting the book back out, Willow headed in the direction the man had pointed, a blank look back on her face. all the way there.

As the small group walked along Loki noticed another unusual woman also walking about some distance away. Her presence was unsettling. Loki assumed it was the lack of emotion on her face that made her different from everyone else around.

Jarod, noticing a slight difference in his mother's behavior looked up and also witnessed and was in a way bothered by this blank-faced woman. Her clothing was some what familiar to him. He and his mother had seen several small groups of girls dressed in a very similar fashion once. Some of them had also been wearing colorful wigs, and he had learned later on that they had been attempting to look like cartoon characters.
The woman's clothes reminded him of the event, but the woman herself did not. There was something about her that was just off. Choosing to remain in character, Jarod sent the annoying college boy's flirtatious smirk in her direction, not really concerned about whether she saw or not.

Loki resisted the urge to react, should the woman notice Jarod's behavior.
