Shagatsu looked over to Popo. She seemed bored and a little timid. He walked over to her and kneeled next to her with a smile. He dug in a pocket untill he found 3 small peices of paper. Motioning her to watch the papers, he clenched and unclenched his hand, folding the paper more every time he opened it. When he was done, he had folded 3 cats, all in perfect arching anger. He giggled a little and hoped it would lighten the mood for Popo.

Popo smiled innocently and bowed her head. She felt a bit better, but still rather uneasy. She sipped her drink once more waiting for Iyasu's reply.

kawaiitanpopo Popo sat quietly listening to the chatter. She was thoroughly confused by everyone's conversations and felt alone. Popo just sipped her drink every so often and observed everyone. She hoped that this would not be how it always was. This game sounded interesting to play, but Popo was not terribly interested in drinking. Her taste for sake was limited and her stories were few and far between. Even though it had been quite some time since Popo came to the Okiya and left her life behind, she still felt uneasy about talking about her former life. She did not have many stories from the Okiya, at least none very happy or funny. Popo worried about saying anything. Popo whispered to Iyasu, "Onee-san.." -4-
"My first story takes place in a neighboring villiage, where a very dear friend of my lived. We would visit each other quite often whenever our fathers were away serving in the Emperor's armed forces. We would go outside and play all day into the pond near her house. One day we were at the pond, about to jump in when we heard something. It sounded like a scream coming from some where near the pond. We looked at each other and waited for the sound again. Nothing happened. We shrugged it off and walked over to the water's edge. Just as we were about to spring into the water, again, we heard that scream again . . . this time it sounded like it was coming from within the pond. We stepped away from the edge and waited for the sound. Again, nothing. We decided to not go into the water just yet, but we played along the water's lapping edge for sometime until we heard and saw something . . . it was the ghost of a young woman. She stood there in the middle of the pond reaching out to us and screaming for us. In shock, my friend and I became white, looked at each other and then proceed to scream and run back to the house." Iyasu paused for a moment to take a sip of tea, "When we told my friend's mother what had just happened. She shook her head and told us about the tale about the young woman who had slipped into the pond, breaking her neck, while meeting her lover to escape from an arranged marriage. They never found her body though, and that pond is quite shallow. She told us that her ghost appears on the new moon of every month, crying and yearning to be back on shore where she might have lived to at least see love one more time."

Tora filled her sake cup as she listened to Iyasu's first story. She would reserve judgement until she heard the second one.

I shift in my seat a little uneasy as it's been a while since I've been around people. Yes Omny you may come and visit Toto at the stables whenever you wish, in fact I give riding lessons, amongst other things of that nature. I invite all of you to come visit the stables. I say to everyone at the table. Now are we swapping stories or are we still playing Big Liar? I'm very confused.

Iyasu giggled, "No no, I still have one more story. Once I am finished, you guess to see which one is true. If you guess wrong, you drink a penalty glass of sake. Then the next person goes." She explained.

Tora smiled, but it was a sad one. She no longer wished to find happiness- it was obvious Kibakichi and Iyasu were an item. She didn't want to cause anymore confusion or harm to anyone. "One person tells two stories," she instructed to him, "one is true and the other is a lie. Everyone else trys to guess which is the true story- if they guess wrong, then they have to drink a cup of sake." When she was saying this, she was looking down in her cup. Tora looked up at Kibakichi, "Does that help any?" she asked kindly.

I stopped scratching my head and stared at Tora's sad smile and listened to her instructions when she looked up at me, I looked my icy blue, piercing yet sad eyes, with hers and smiled to her trying to reassure her that I am available if you wish to pursue me, go ahead. I bow my head and say softly and gently. Hai very much so. Thank you milady.

Tora's heart skiped a beat as Kibakichi's blue eyes met her own ice-blue eyes. She blushed and blinked a few times before bowing. She fumbled with her kimono, awaiting Iyasu's second story. Her deep blush continued as she sat in silence; a genuine smile flashed across her face for the first time in months.
She felt so sorry for the trouble she'd caused. She should be happy for her little sister- she was becoming a geisha and had a danna, and she should be happy for her best friend in the whole world because he found someone he truely loved.
Tora looked over at Omny and Shagatsu and smiled at them. She didn't say a word, but the smile said it all. She looked back to Kibakichi and the blush reapeared.

"That got her." I think devilishly as I see Tora blush, batting her lashes before see bowed. I chuckle softly to myself as I watch her fumble with her kimono. "See has eyes like mine, well not exactly like mine, but still that's pretty rare." I see her Omny who was with a guy. I see her smile then look back at me and begin to blush again. Tora-san could you please pass me a rice cake? I gently to her.

Just as she was about to start her next story, her hazel eyes noticed Tora's blushing cheeks. Her breathing stopped almost instantly, her face paled and crimson lips sank down. It had repeated, but this time it was her turn. Her heart fleeted back and felt an unpleasent tension build. She kept her face and actions calm and serene, almost too serene as she looked to Tanpopo.
"My second story takes place in the mountians. A small villiage snuggled between two tall peaks, was a simple family. A father who served the Emperor; a mother who bought and sold goods for horses; the eldest child and only son was engaged to be married; the second child and eldest daughter training horses, going to school and then the youngest still toddling about the mother's feet. This family did what they needed to do live and maintain happiness through out their days, just like any other family would. However, this family carried in the darkness a curse that will forever rot on their women. This curse was placed upon the family by a jealous young woman. She cast upon every woman born into that family shall forever be stay alone, until her life of misery is complete. Why would any cast such a wicked curse, no one knows, but it has been proven that this curse could be false. Very few woman of this family had escaped this horrible fate. Their loop hole was to escape the valley and create a new life else wear. Which is exactly what great grandmother did of this family. The great grandmother escaped and started a new life. The second daughter followed in her foot steps." She took another sip of her, a longer sip than usual and let out small sigh. "I keep in contact with her and I won't give out her name. She is a geisha here and when I last spoke with her she told me curse might be lifted from a kind, business man. Now which do you think is true?"

She glanced to Tora and smiled at her. "Are you okay?" she whispered to her just making sure she was okay.
Ariku filled her cup with sake and listened to the stories. She sighed and thought for a moment. Either one could be true. I heard of stories like each before. But, I have witnessed something such as the first one.
"I'll go out on a limb and say the first one." she said ready to drink.

Popo nodded in agreement with Ariku. "Indeed, the first one!" Popo smiled, her voice quiet because of her shyness. Popo was mezmorized (sp?) by both stories and enjoyed listening to them. She often heard stories from her mother, who taught her a lot of what she knew. Popo was happy to hear Iyasu's stories and see a part of Iyasu that she never had before.

She was in a trance as of asleep with open eyes, but hearing everyone take geuses as Iyasu's long stories came to an end woke her up. Not realy remembering the stories Omny just said whatever came to mind " The second one?" she said with still a bit of dazed look on her face. A bit wossy she examined Tora and Iyasu, once agian she could predict what was gonna happen. This didn't intrest her since she already knew what would come of the end.
