^^ Slipped my mind.
He's a spoiled brat throwing a tantrum because he didn't get what he wanted. He's annoying. He's selfish. And he's not particularily frightneing.
A good baddie is one who is smart. Seph's an idiot.

he didn't come off like that to me at all. first was he foudn out what he was..destroyed all the evidence, or most of it. Went to see his 'mom'. Cloud and others made pests of themselves, and were dealt with accordingly.
Next part was taking vengance, ala Frankenstien, on those that 'made' him. the Shin-ra corporation.
after that, it was him saying he was an Ancient, the first race that inhabited the planet. we know/find out Jenova was not, but Sephiroth believes otherwise, and holds humanity responsible for the near exinction of the race. then comes the plan to use the meteor to force the planet to react with the lifestream, and by being at ground zero, fuse himself to the lifestream to become a god and deal with all of humanity in one big stroke.
The get the power to pull that off, he needs the 'Reunion' which was basically killing and ala Highlander fusing thier Jenova given power/cells to himself.
Sounds like a rather thought out plan to me. doesn't sound like him being whiny at all. he holds Shin-ra responsible for making him, and hiding that from him. then he holds humanity responsible for what he believes was the near extinction of a nobler, better race. and as the 'last' of the race, he seeks vengeance for it. Sephiroth is insane, but far from stupid. turn it around, and he actual comes out like a noble warrior fighting to restore his people.
Several times in the game, Sephiroth proves that he has the ability to manipulate cloud via telepathy or somethign similar. and everytime Sephiroth basically gives cloud the chance to join him, cloud whimpers and whines about his feelings.
what about my feelings? what about my pain? why can't I be big and badass like sephiroth? What about me?
Hell, Cloud throughout the game cares for nothing but himself until things get more involved with Aeris. working with barret as a merc. he didn't care about the planet, he was in it for the money. Later, it's becuase he wants to be with Aeris, and protect her. After Sephiroth kills her, THEN does he start to really give a damn about what's going on.
And even then, he becomes just concerned with stopping/killing Sephiroth for his own vengence.
That is more like a whiney two year old throwing a tantrum to me. the you took away my toys and I'm gunna beat you up for it. you don't care about how I feel, you don't care about my pain. The damn guy is your ENEMY. he's not supposed to give a s**t about your pain. if anything, he wants to know about it to make it worse.
My favorite thing that I think people overlook is Sephiroth knew he was a badass. he knew he was the man. he didn't need big extravagant and intricate plans to show off how good he was or how smart he was to seem powerful. he didn't need an army of minions. his only real 'minions' were the parts of Jenova, and he leaves them behind to say 'I'm busy, and don't have time to beat you to a pulp right now'
He basically said 'this is what I'm doing, here's how I'm doing it, and if you think you can, try and stop me."
in the entire game, Sephiroth never uses Materia but once. He never needs a summon but once. That alone says something to me. in the other FF games, the villian usually is trying to collect the items of power, to make himself stronger. the crystals in FF2, the summoned monsters in FF3 and 9, and in FFx and X-2 it was spheres(materia) and Vegangun.
Sephiroth ignores materia, except the black one he needs for his big plan. other than that one, he lets you collect all the materia you can find, becuase you're gunna need it if you want to try and take him down.

Sorry Jason, I don't feel like arguing. I'm good at it, but arguing against fandoms is usually pointless.

We always know best.
Go, play. I very much want to play KH and KH2, but alas, money is an issue. As it is, it's gonna cost me about 300$ for that eye exam and new frames.

It's not a fandom..just why I don't see him as whiny or childlike. I see him as a very well done villian, one of the best done in the FF series imo. Second to him I'd pick Seymour from FFx

Hmm mmm. I don't hold much favor for video game villians. My fav Jak series for example...LOVE the games, but the villans? Meh. They are alright. FF8, my personal fave from FF...Ultimicia? Seifer? They are okay, but they were too easy, I prefered fighting say...Bahamut. Poor guy.
Book villians I enjoy.
Lady Takihsis, Emporer Jagang, Lord Rahl, that pirate captian from Birds of Prey (I forget his name...), Katinka, what's his face from the the Death Gate series (I should be re-reading some of these books..)
I'd name more, but I'm having trouble remebering my book collection.

I only like Sephy for his shiny long hair...but that's my particular preference...
Other than that I didn't like FFVII at all really.
But yes, I think I shall indulge in a few hours of KH2 seeing as not much is happening here.
*pets gaia* I'll pay attention to you after dinner tonight.

Ah, The Firghteners. Along with Sleepy Hollow, it is one of the only good horror films.

I always thought that Sephiroth wasn't much more than a whiny angst ridden youth who wanted to destroy the world because he found out he wasn't human.
Jason's point of view makes him appear more spectacular.
As far as villians go, I would have to say that Kefka is the best. He succeeded at destroying the planet and rebuilding it in his image. (FFVI/3).
I agree with Shadow on the frightners. It was too comical to be a horror, like Evil Dead (1 AND 2, and Army of Darkness.)

Pff. A mass murder who continues to kill even after he is dead? Horror. It's scary if you look at that guys teeth. They're HUGE!
But then, I'm just saying that cause I hate most horror films.
I could go into other elements that make it a horror, but I may bore you with what looks like drama class spillage.
