The slam of the door shocked the male, who accidently squirted the cooling balm onto the floor. Kneeling quickly, he begun to try and clean it with his unburned hand. He cursed leaving his shirt in his room. it would have been great to wipe it.

Arianeira didn't notice the holographic image as she first walked into the room. She was frowning, but her eyes widened slightly as she took in his lack of shirt. She then realised that he was kneeling on the floor. "Are you alright?" She asked with concern, crossing the room towards him.

Captain Stratford hid his blackening hand quickly, standing up as the last of the cream was wiped up. "Fi.. Fine!" His voice was hesitant as he looked at anywhere but her. "Th..Thanks."

Arianeira stopped where she was and looked at him, slightly confused. He had suddenly started stammering for no apparent reason and he looked guilty about something. Her eyes searched his face, but his didn't meet them. She decided not to ask. "Right." She said. She was still several yards away and she took another step backwards. "If you're sure you're alright, I'll leave you to it..." She let a slightly questioning note enter her voice, but turned to go anyway.

Captain Stratford tried to smile reassuringly, as his hand caught the wall. It ran across the burns, making him hiss in pain, moving it to clutch the wrist tightly out of instinct. "Sonofa-!"

Arianeira turned back, frown deepening. She folded her arms across her chest as she scowled at him. "I thought you said you were alright." She said accusingly.

Captain Stratford let a grin cross his face. "I didn't want to worry you?" He said reluctantly. He didn't want to admit he'd felt stupid for doing it.

Ignoring both the expression and the tone, Arianeira took a look at the hand, being careful to avoid the places that were badly burnt. She frowned at it. The burns were all on one side, so he'd obviously touched something, but she decided not to ask what. She glanced at where he'd put the cream and noted that it had already started working. She let his hand go and looked up into his face again without saying anything.

The starship captain was staring off at the ceiling while the inspection was done. His left eye physically twitched as his numb hand hardly regestered the touch. He'd have it checked when Dennis got into system.

Arianeira shrugged, wondering why she bothered. Feeling faintly irritated by his attitude, she turned away and headed back towards her room.

Stratford's heart pounded as he watched her walk away. He got the feeling this was walking away for more than the moment. "Arianeira..."

She was tempted to carry on walking, but felt she owed him to at least listen. She stopped and turned to face him, arms folded and eyebrow raised slightly as she replied, "James."

The captain walked forwards slowly towards her, his hands by his side. His left hand rose towards her slightly after a moment as if blind. He couldn't meet her gaze.
