I'm trying to explain the concept of a Geisha to my mother, but she doesn't seem to be absorbing anything I say. She just keeps going "But isn't a Geisha just a Japanese prostitute?"

She just keeps going "But isn't a Geisha just a Japanese prostitute?" @ SJL: Haaah. You're making a kau. My sister had the same problem. First of all, tell her that at the time, most Japanese men were stuck in an arranged marriage. Since women were able to go to places where they were entertained by aikomochi (male geisha), female geisha eventually followed. Geisha were artisans. Able to sing, dance, carry conversation, tell stories and most of all, make their client feel important. stfu. Kaus rule.
