it's been ingrained since the human species were hunter/gatherers. males kill to supply meat and food, women cook it for us. males want mroe males to help do the male tasks of killing/hunting/leading, so we make lots of babies so there is a higher percentage of male kids. not to mention, it's a symbol of strength, to be able to provide and upbring healthy offspring. it's just genetic.
Same way with women mostly prefering wealither/better off/nicer places when they go looking for dates. just like animals prefer the biggest and strongest male. more security = more sex appeal to females in general.
why do guys get nice places and buy fancy cars? becuase they know women like fancy cars and nice places. if I guy coudl get a girl with a cardboard box nad a bicycle, he'd never own a house or a car razz

like I said, mostly. you might not date him, but I would promise there's 20 others that woudl simply becuase of the money and fancy things. they might not be faithful, but they woudl go out with him for the money, and then grab a good looking 'pool boy' if you would for thier physical enjoyments.
and for the record, yes, I HAVE seen this in action. So I know for a fact it does happen, and often enough.
