HopelessEcko Extending school doesn't bother me any. I'm thankful I'm out of school and unless I chose to go back to college, I don't EVER have to worry about that EVER again. If I were a kid though, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be thrilled with it, but I hated school from 1st grade until 12th grade, I'm just glad I'll never have to worry about it EVER again. I do agree that there should be something done to help kids learn easier, I mean, where I went to school you could fail ALL your homework and just pass your tests and be completely okay. I suck at test and relied HEAVILY on how good my homework was or I would of NEVER passed anything. That's just my opinion though xD I don't think that it would bother me either, actually, it might make my day job a little more bearable... I work at a supermarket right now.... things would be so quite *sigh* I don't know if there is a difference going to a catholic high school or not, (not that I know if you went to one) but what you're saying about homework and tests sounds exactly like my high school classes.... I was decent with my homework, but I would do tons of extra credit, just in case a test went wrong.... kindergarten- 12th grade sucked as well, but I loved college, I would go back if it didn't mean having to dish out thousands of dollars crying

Tahkashe MissMothra First off, who says we're competing against other countries? What do we get if we win? Seriously..
Secondly, not enough time in school is obviously NOT the problem. The problem is the fact that teachers are NOT doing their job thanks to tenure. What's that? you may ask. Tenure enables teachers to NEVER get fired unless caught doing something EXTREMELY bad on the spot such as fighting another teacher (physically), bringing a gun to school, or caught by another teacher or the principle raping someone. That's it. Other than that, they get to stay at the school, hardly teach a thing, treat the students how they want, and get an easy paycheck with the summers off.
NOT to mention that schools should investigate a teacher's background heavily. My high school, from what I hear NOW, has ELEVEN pervs. Eleven perverted teachers that are potential sex offenders.
Also, one of the teachers I had back in high school was a mental patient.
So you see.. it's not whether or not we spend enough time in school. It's whether or not the teachers are doing their ******** job. NOT TO MENTION the school food sucks a**. Who'd wanna spend more time in school getting sick off that s**t? I'm serious.. I doubt he'd get it passed. Because of the reasons you stated... Also, it's not just the teachers, but the students. Who says you can't get worse scores by "over-teaching"? Oh, and if we win, we get to gloat. OMG I WANT TO SO BAD IT HURTS. -.- But here's the thing! It MIGHT get passed because of the fact that schools like my high school do not have a sex-ed class because it's considered inappropriate, and therefore virgins are an endangered species there. Not to mention damn near everyone is doing drugs, drinking and whatnot all thanks to today's media and fads.
That's the tool that our prez might use.. the media. The media has ways of manipulating people and coaxing them into doing what the person sending out the message wants.. THAT is the scary part.

Dude, compared to the days I was in school, they've upped the testing and taken out most of the fun out of things from what I heard. =/ I spoke with my 2nd Grade teacher a couple years back and she said it's ridiculous now. She misses the old days. Makes me glad I'm not in school anymore.

They DID up the tests! D: Now you can't graduate in Ohio just based on your grades! You gotta pass the OGT (Ohio Graduation Test). You have three tries and if you fail the third time, you don't graduate. They even make you take a ******** class about that class which believe me, it doesn't help at all. It only scares you, confuses you, and makes you feel like s**t.
In this country, we are slowly and perhaps dangerously being stripped of our freedom. I believe some of you are able to see the seriousness of it all.
The Declaration of Independence has a line in it.. I cannot remember the line, but it means that if one has the ability to take action in the name of this country and its people, then one has the responsibility. Meaning we the people of the United States actually have the right to overthrow such corruption and demand everything be set straight and not let Congress boss us around like this (because you know it was them and not Bush).
Unfortunately, not too many people in this country realize or want to believe in it. No one does anything about it. I don't know if it's because we're all too lazy or something, but it's pissing me off. One of the biggest blames over the ridiculous control over the American people is the damned media..

Here's some things I'd like to mention: My cousin, who's in Kindergarten, has a HOMEWORK PACKET. And it's due not the next week, but the NEXT DAY. If that's how grade schools are now, then I pity the kids in them. So we're teaching kids that everything is just a bunch of worthless packets...where's the fun? The hands on art? After checking my cousin's, my sister's and my old schools, I see a lack of art. But what's the point? With the way teaching kids is going, if we include anything else, they'll think of it as boring and complain. I know some will say kids are like this, but not all kids are, and in the long run, we're raising people to hate any form of labor and resort to laziness. -3-
Here's an experiment I did once. For the sake of the lulz, my gov't teacher, a few of my friends in the class, and myself, set up a booth with the sign "End Woman's Suffrage!" with a clip-board and everything. You'd think we'd get in trouble. You'd think we'd get jumped. WE GOT 895 SIGNATURES! -3- FAIL.
We don't need to add MORE hours, we need to find a way to take what we have and improve it, make it more entertaining, so kids, adults, anyone, can find joy in learning and in turn, learn. Because adding hours just means, for most, wasting more of their time and making them hate education even more.
Also.....I think I may have said this before, but here's something to note about our former President Bush: Bush doesn't talk when Cheney drinks water, check that s**t out.

In all honesty, it wasn't ALL Bush's fault. The president, no matter who it is, is a scapegoat. It's all Congress' doing.
Here's a good thing if you guys have to ask what he did.. Bush was trying to put money in an oil rig here in our country so we can drill our own oil, but Congress told him no and made him stop. We rely too much on imported goods. How much you wanna bet if it's made in this country, it's a hell of a lot cheaper?
Not to mention we should get rid of welfare altogether because of the people abusing it. You have this lazy crackwhores pumping out kids that aren't even anywhere near their late 20s and they live off welfare because they "can't get a job." I say spread the sex-ed and make young people understand it all.
Most importantly: BRING BACK MORALITY. Get rid of the skanky s**t for little kids! Seriously.. I've seen TWO-PIECE BATHING SUITS FOR TODDLERS! THEY DON'T NEED TO BE WEARING THAT s**t! That's advertising child pornography!
The list could go on, this country is going downhill, but the main problem is that hardly anyone and almost no one is doing anything about it...

The welfare system is useful for the people that actually need it so getting rid of it entirely would screw them over terribly. What would make more sense to do would be to reevaluate the criteria that people need to fit in order to get into the system in the first place and form a sub-program that helps teach them time management, contraceptive use, and how to find work so that they can get back on their feet and eventually be removed from the Welfare system.
As for morality, that is NOT any concern of the government and should not be. That is purely the responsibility of the parent and is usually deeply rooted in religious beliefs, family tradition, or their culture.
Also, just because YOU think something is pushing the envelpope too far doesn't mean that other people will agree. I myself have never seen a bikini for a toddler that was too revealing and I have a very hard time seeing any kind of child pornography portrayed in the ones that I have seen. Maybe you're just too sheltered but I mean really, don't be ridiculous.

Believe me.. I've seen it and I don't mean by internet. I've seen little girls in two-pieces right in front of me.
And if you really think about it, it's not just the parents fault. You also have peers and teachers to worry about, too. (I mentioned that due to personal experiences I've had and witnessed at my high school and seen at my cousin's school all the way up in Akron/Norton, OH.) And "maybe I'm just being too sheltered?" What's that supposed to mean? I'm NOT being ridiculous. Why on Earth would I make a big fuss over such a thing if I wasn't serious? I've had potential child molesters at my middle school (who've even commented on boobs of little girls). I could go on about everything I've witnessed that deals with the inhuman things implied on children, and I'm not talking about things I've seen on TV. I'm talking things that happened in front of me or to me. I also have a few friends (and even a couple of ex-friends) to vouch for me with horrid memories of their own that even they try to forget. I don't forget because someone has to realize and know what's going on so that they can prevent it from happening to their own children or children around them in inhuman situations that may unfold right in front of them. (I'm done on this subject now)
But, I have to admit, the welfare thing you mentioned is what I agree with. (it was 3am when I typed my post before, I've been trying to drop by as much as I could since I do seem to care.. therefore, I left a thing or two out pertaining to that subject)

SUP GUYS? biggrin
I've finally got me a new laptop (Apple MacBook), and I managed to get all the files/programs from Ol' Silver onto it ($50 well worth it *clings to art files*). Still can't figure out having my internet work with it though, so I'm 'borrowing' wireless from a kindly neighbor. Shhh.... wink
Things are still crazy for me, but for a whole new reason. Not only am I going home for Thanksgiving next weekend, but I'M MOVING! By the end of the month, I'll finally be out of this Bachelor apartment, and into one with an actual bedroom! With a door and everything! 8D Not to mention it's got a balcony, AND a pool/basketball court. *does happy dance* I can't wait!
Also, I think I've found the perfect pink wig to do a Fiona (from Nisei--Dai Shingeki) cosplay. May have to splurge on it and make two Kinniku-cosplays for Anime North next year. >3 Could use a good color image of her though...anyone got one?
EDIT: EEEE HALLOWEEN ITEMS! biggrin

Jade_Raisin What kind of internet problems are you having with your MacBook??? and Congrats on the new apartment smile Eh, I think my computer doesn't seem to be reading the cable modem (and I don't have the ISP). I get the message "Ethernet has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect." when I go to my network controls. I think I'm gonna call my internet company tomorrow. Mars Eskara Bee: Congrats, girl! XD And gah, cosplay can be such a money hog.. try not to go too crazy. Cosplays are such a money eater. But between the wig, and some fake chains I found at a craft shop, it seems like it's meant to be. xD;; Checkmate's still #1 priority (once I move), but hopefully I can pull a Fiona together too...hey, would you say this is a accurate color scheme for her (no chaps here though)? And yes, my new pad shall be glorious. I'll take photos once I have all my crap in it's place *plots her 'Closet of Cosplay'* >D HopelessEcko HOLY JESUS o__o did you guys check out that new shop??? NONE of the items are under a million gold.. HOLY CRAP are you SHITTING ME???? Wow. I just..WOW. I did, and promptly picked up my jaw from the ground. I was expecting expensive, but not THAT expensive. I want that monarch butterfly dress! *whines*

hmmm..... I had that problem when I was first trying to figure it out same message and everything..... if you have a cable modem... you may just have to reset the modem while it's plugged into your laptop.... then wait for the lights to reset.... that's what always worked for me though sometimes it took a few tries
other than that I don't think I'll be much help.... sweatdrop sorry if it wasn't helpful
