"He has many things to think through," she answered simply. She looked up at the girl. "Much involves you, myself, and Aphrodite, as well as her domain. There are things he has yet to learn, even though the lesson is already taught."

Ever had warring emotions inside of her. There was confusion, anger, frustration, worry... She didn't know where to start.
She was angry that he would be thinking about Aphrodite. He told her that he didn't have feelings for her. She didn't want to get upset over that AGAIN, but had Ares lied to her this entire time? Had he lied to her and himself?
Ever sighed and reached up with one of her hands to rub at one of her temples. "So many questions... I guess, well, why would he be thinking about you? Who are you, really?"

A bittersweet smile laced her face. "My name I have already told you, and I did not lie. But who I am... No, I did not tell you that, did I? Nor my significance to this poor god before us..." She fingered his hair sadly. "I was his first love..." Her voice was extremely soft, almost a whisper, but too full of emotion to be so.

Ever gasped, her breath leaving her body for a few moments. Good grief... Was she really awake? Yeah, she had to be. She had never fallen back asleep.
She turned her eyes back to Amaryllis and she looked very weary. "I... I didn't know he had a first love. I didn't know he had ever loved anyone."

Amaryllis gave a slight nod. "Yes... few people would suspect Ares of ever loving. He simply does not seem the type, does he, upon first meeting?" She shook her head, a small laugh bubbling out. "But he is so much different when you get to him. When he loves you, he does so with all of himself." She sighed lightly, wistfully.

Ever's eyes filled with tears as she heard Amaryllis describe Ares. She had thought that she knew him pretty well, better than anyone else. But apparently she was wrong. That wasn't Ares' fault or hers. It just was.
She looked back at Amaryllis, holding back her tears, and smiled softly. This woman did seem very nice. She was surprised someone like that would have been attracted to him.
Would have been...
It would be past tense. She knew him in the past because she was dead now. That also meant that she was not a goddess. Things started to quickly fall into place, overloading her, almost like a game of Tetris when you got toward the end.
"You're... were... mortal, weren't you?"

"Yes." Such a short answer. "Yes... I was mortal. I suppose, technically, I still am. After all, I am dead. Yet... you cannot kill me again, so that would make me immortal." She shrugged, and her hair shifted--golden light flickering for a moment before settling once again. "But that matters not."

Ever slowly shook her head. "It does... It matters so much. This is why Ares is the way he is, isn't it? Well, for the most part. If someone as kind as you could fall in love with him, then he must have been completely different before you died. You said he is much different when you get to know him. I'm guessing, then, that your death affected him greatly, horribly."
She looked over at Ares and began to study his face.

Amaryllis smiled gravely. "That would make sense. You are quite wise for one so young, my dear. But Ares is not so different as you may think--simply the same person with more walls between the world and his heart. It will be a difficult place to reach, for anyone." She ran her fingers, softly glowing and ethereal as they were, through his hair. It ruffled slightly, but gave no other indication that anything had disturbed it. She missed him, and she could sense very clearly that he missed her.
But Fate had already passed judgement, and Amaryllis was long dead.

"... and that's what happened," Aphrodite rounded off her story of the evening, sparing Adonis of nothing. He only nodded as Aphrodite sipped her coffee. She looked at him. "I am sorry... I don't know what came over me," she said. Adonis got up, and placed his hands on her knees. Leaning in, he kissed her gently. "We're not perfect," he whispered, looking her in her beautiful eyes, "Not everyone has the opportunity to see the you I see. You're a good person, Aphrodite, don't let the opinion of a child change that."
He kissed her forehead gently, and she closed her eyes. She was so lucky to have him... why would she ever need anyone else ever again? Why did she need any other man? She looked up to him. "I want to be yours. Yours only... forever. No more Ares, no other men, mortal or immortal. Yours," she clarified. His smile was blinding. "... and I will be only yours. I swear." Suddenly, a bright flash of light lit up the night, and Aphrodite looked out her office window. "Odd... we don't usually get lightning storms..." she muttered. Adonis moved to look out the window with her, his face concentrated.

Adonis scanned the night. There was nothing to suggest that anything out of the ordinary was happening, yet he couldn't help but feel that there was. Aphrodite came up behind him as he looked, wrapping her hands around his waist and resting her chin on his shoulder. No, not many people saw the Aphrodite he saw. The loving, genuine, kind, and patient woman before him now sometimes got smothered by the diva that was bred into her. He loved her no matter how she acted, though. He loved her. It was times like this that he couldn't help but wonder if Ares knew about this side of Aphrodite at all, because if he did, how could he bear to leave her?
Aphrodite kissed the crook of his neck where it joined his shoulders. A soft humming filled the office, and he recognized the tune she sang softly to. It was Music of the Night from the Phantom of the Opera. One of his favorites, and hers as well. He merely smiled, placing his hands over hers. No matter her soothing techniques, something bad was going down at Bai Ching.

Ever winced at Amaryllis' words. "Believe me, I'm not smart. If I was smart, I wouldn't be in this mess. I keep trying to remind myself that I'm young and am still learning, that I shouldn't be so hard on myself. But it's so hard not to be."
She watched as Amaryllis continued to touch and gaze down at Ares lovingly. She couldn't imagine the pain she must be in, to never be able to be with the man she loved again. She couldn't even try to imagine it because she had never been in love. So, she couldn't even pretend to know what it would be like to lose someone she loved.
"I'm sorry you lost him."
Even though it hurt her greatly, practically tore her apart on the inside, she looked up at Amaryllis.
"I could speak with Hades, if you want, and see if there is something he can do about this. Maybe he can bring you back to life, for good."
Obviously she wanted to be with Ares and Ares to be with her, not Amaryllis. But he obviously still loved her greatly if he was still this affected by her death. She wanted to do what was best for Ares, not herself.

The foot stopped as it was pressed firmly into Musica's back, grinding him into the ground. Slowly his head creaked to the side to stare madly into the eyes of the young girl he was holding. "Anything, you say?" His tight grip on her loosened, but only enough to where it wasn't painful. Escape was still a futile attempt. "Don't consider my ideals too perverted, I have some better uses for your young mortal soul." His grin was insane, plans and ideas flying around in his head left and right. A willing sacrifice was powerful for what he wished to do, and he'd found one so soon. It greatly excited him.

Ari didn't falter. That was what love was, she realized. Love was sacrifice. She would do anything to save Musica. She wondered if he knew that, or if he even suspected. ”Anything,” she whispered back to him, her calm green finding his insane blue. ”… just stop hurting him.” Inside, she was trembling. She could see her future spelled out in the insanity. She didn’t need Nessa to tell her that she was going to die. The funny thing was that she wasn’t afraid. "P-promise m-me you'll leave Musica alone. Promise, and I'm yours." All she needed was Nikolaus’ promise that he would stop hurting Musica, and she would bow out gracefully… as gracefully as Nikolaus would allow her to. She figured it was noble or something. Not like it would matter in an hour or so.
